I received a call from the company within 1 day of purchasing coupon from Angie's List. They scheduled the service for the same day. The service worker was very kind and professional. He left a contract for monthly or yearly service plan but was not at all pushy about selling it.
Description of Work: They inspected and evaluated heat and ac systems; checked and changed air filters; cleaned flame sensor; adjusted gas pressure; checked all "softies" including burners, heat exchanger, blower, motor, pipes, capacitator, air pressure and electrical connections.

I used them because they received good reviews. I was happy with them. They actually argued with the supplier to try to get the parts down which they needed to replace. Their quality of work was very good.

I had purchased a system tune-up coupon on Angie's List and talked with a company representative the next day to schedule the service. The service rep. arrived on time, wore protective footwear, provided very good updates and explanations while providing the needed service and departed after completing the work and answering all my questions. I have a very good understanding of the current status of our system and look forward to a good and honest business relationship with 72 degrees. Note: the service rep. even provided treats (after asking if it was ok) to our two 4-legged canine friends.
Description of Work: The service rep inspected and provided weather appropriate maintenance on our home furnace and AC unit. While performing these services, the rep replaced a furnace safety item which had been causing our system to work improperly.

The first time they were exactly on time, the second time they ran a little late but it was no problem. The options to fix the problem were very straightforward and the technician was very informative and not pushy about making any decisions. The one thing I did not like about 72 Degrees, and this is very minor, but the people who answer the phone say "Hello, this is 72 Degrees, how can I make you smile today?" It's very annoying! I don't want to be asked how I can smile today! And I had to call numerous times for various reasons. I found one of the people who initially took my call a little inexperienced and not great at communicating, but everyone else seemed to be professional and helpful. I just didn't like the whole smile thing. It puts me off, but I would use them again because they were very professional and very quick to solve our heating/air problem.
Description of Work: There was no heat or air coming into our home office and they came one time to inspect the problem, and a second time to fix the problem. I was at work, but my mother-in-law was in town to let the technician in and she relayed how the service was back to me. I was able to speak to the technician on the phone after he evaluated the issue and he was very helpful explaining the three options I had to fix it (least to most expensive). The duct going to the home office was bent or smashed and needed replacing, so that's what we did. It only took about an hour to fix it. I decided to forgo the more expensive options (installing dampers and a zoning system), but will revisit them later on because it will really affect how the heat and air moves around the house.

Overall a very good experience. Technician was clean, courteous, and completed the work. My only issue is that my appointment was for 8:30am. At 8:10am I was called and told the technician would arrive around 9:15am. When I explained I had an 8:30am appointment I received no explanation for the delay.

Hello Member: Thank you so much for taking time to post this response on Angie's List. I'm happy to hear you were pleased with our services, and want to personally apologize for our tardiness the morning of your appointment. While it is good someone from our office called to let you know our technicians were running late (due to a previous service job) you are correct in noting that we could have explained why they were late that day. We realize time is precious, and try be prompt for all scheduled appointments. However, occasionally we encounter unexpected service issues or unavoidable traffic and are late on arrival times. I'm glad you were happy with the service our technician provided, and will ensure your next appointment is a success as well. Thank You! Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

The guy was great. I didn't get the feeling he was being disingenuous or trying to up sell me. It was really nice.
Description of Work: Angie's List was running a special for a certain price for them to come out and do a heating and A/C check. That's what I had them do. They did the inspection, but they did recommend some additional work if the relay went out again. The fan kept running and they cleaned the relay. They said if it keeps going, they would recommend replacing it.

This was our first experience with Angie's List and 72 degrees. We moved here two years ago and had a bad experience (or three) with ARS and our home warranty. Beyond the poor service and the attempted up-sales on each call, we continue to receive all too frequent phone calls from ARS. It was worth joining Angie's list just to identify a more respected alternative. We basically chose 72 degrees based on all the positive feedback. When we called someone answered right away. She explained the whole Angie's list process to us and indicated she hadn't received the email yet, but was happy to schedule. I pulled up the coupons I had just purchased and read her the codes. She was very nice about my ignorance of the process. She was happy to schedule it right away at convenient time for our schedule. We had Curtis as the service person. He arrived on time and was very personable and appropriate. When he was working on the units I asked him a ton of questions and he was happy to explain everything to me. Again, he had a great demeanor and is a genuinely nice guy. He was here a few hours. It took a little longer than I thought, but he was working the whole time. Again, with our friends at ARS, I recall them sitting in their vehicle quite a lot. Curtis was working the whole time. At the end, he did write-up their offer for an annual service agreement, but wasn't pushy about it at all. Overall, I didn't have any complaints. I don't think the price was exceptional and I suspect other providers would have given us a similar deal, but it was good. The professionalism and friendliness of Curtis was well worth it. So we'd highly recommend 72 degrees. Not a bad first experience with Angie's List. We hope they all go this well.
Description of Work: We purchased two coupon specials for a comprehensive inspection and cleaning of each unit. With all the problems we've previously had with ARS and winter approaching, we just wanted some reassurance everything was in good order.

For full disclosure, I had initially rated this company more poorly overall and on price. I have edited this review to reflect my feelings on this company after having a lengthy discussion with the owner. My previous review was posted prematurely, and would have most certainly been different had I spoken with the owner sooner. I was so impressed by the discussion, and what he offered to do to make me happy, that I felt I needed to change this review to more accurately reflect my opinion. Review: The technician they sent out was very good, and identified a problem that has gone unresolved after two different companies, including the install company, with my furnace on the dual fuel unit. My system is more complex than most, as I have a dual zone single system installation with a dual fuel system (can heat with natural gas or heatpump). The added complexity makes it easy for other companies to throw parts at the problem without really identifying the real issue. This was the case with the two previous companies I used to attempt to correct the issue. The technician also determined that my compressor had gone bad in a 3 year old unit and needed replacing. 72 Degrees did not install this unit. Ultimately I chose not to use 72 Degrees to replace my compressor. They scored a C on pricing because for my particular work they were no better than average on pricing. To receive a B or higher, you must provide better than market rate. Price rating does not include things such as warranty, because these additions are hard to value. Since price is so important in todays economic times, you can't get an A overall with a C in pricing. I will give them an opportunity to service my HVACs in the future and you shouldnt hesitate to give them a call.
Description of Work: The company was called out to diagnose 2 problems. 1) My Trane dual fuel unit appeared to blow its compressor being only 3 years old. They needed to confirm this and give me a labor price for replacing the warrantied part. They confirmed the unit was blown, and quoted me~$1200 to replace the compressor (labor quote only). 2) The gas pack on the same unit was also failing to stay lit. I needed them to diagnose an issue that had been causing me issues ever since the unit was installed. The technician found the problem, and charged me a reasonable price to fix the unit. The overall price of the visit $211, and the technician was on site for 2 hours. They charged a diagnosis fee which inflates the per hour rate of the repair.

Dear Member: We truly appreciate the time you took to amend the original rating posted on this site, and are happy that you're pleased with our top notch service. We are sometimes priced higher than other HVAC companies in the area due to the certifications and thorough background checks required from our technicians. However, it is rare that our company has to make multiple trips to a client's home for missed issues (as you experienced with our competitors), and the quality of our work can save a lot of precious time and money in the future. I'm glad we had a chance to talk about your experience with 72 Degrees, and look forward to working with you again in the future. Thank You! Eddie Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

The technician arrived right on time (maybe even a little early), and he did a thorough job. He explained very clearly what he was measuring, inspecting, and cleaning, and told me which components of our system were working well and which were areas to watch. He explained what parts we might need to replace soon, and discussed a few different options we would have down the road when we need to replace our system. I feel that I understand our system much better thanks to the technician's experience and ability to explain things clearly. Also, I didn't feel any pressure to buy more services, which is nice.

Description of Work: The company came out as promised, very knowledgeable, helpful, and at this visit checked out our furnace as this was the appliance needed for the next season. We decided to take their package where they will service both a/c and heat units during the season needed. They will come out in spring for the a/c unit check up. He described how our unit worked for us, and ti thoughly check it out. All was good. But I feel if I need service done, they will be here and will do us right. Outstanding service visit and consultation.
Description of Work: I was concerned that I had a problem with mold in my system and wanted not just the typical service but also a deep inspection and consultation with an experienced serviceman. Eddie (the owner) talked to me on the phone at length to understand what I might be dealing with and then sent Chris H. out to help me investigate the problem. Chris did an "over the top" service and inspection of my units. We discussed the source and possible remedies and found that my problem was only a minor problem (I had discovered it early). Since I had "over-insulated" my attic, I had created a short-cycling issue with my large unit not operating efficiently and often. We decided that I will need a new system eventually, but that it was not urgent. I could do several things to mitigate the short cycling of my unit and subsequently just wait and see if the problem gets under control. I will definitely use 72 Degrees when I go to replace my system...just not this year. I genuinely appreciate the professional treatment and reasonable consultation to understand my options. Thanks very much to Eddie and Chris for their assistance.

I saw the Big Deal special for a 34-Point Heating and A/C System Precision Tune-up and Professional Cleaning on Angie's list, and since I hadn't had my HVAC serviced since buying my house 5+ years ago, I decided to give them a try. Excellent decision! I found the company polite, attentive and responsive to my needs/timeline when I called to schedule the service. On the day of the service, the technician showed up right on time and ready to get down to work. And he was terrific-- at once superbly friendly and entirely professional. And very efficient too. He performed the check and cleaning and let me know clearly and in detail what he'd done, what he'd found, what he recommended, and why. I'd had a back-up in one of my A/C lines which might have caused a big problem if it had continued undiscovered, but he found it, removed the blockage and recommended a more regular service schedule, which does make sense. Also, he adjusted the pressure so that my gas furnace would burn with maximum efficiency. No extra work required now. No hard sell. Just good advice to stay on top of routine care and save myself a problem later on. I will certainly use this company again.

It went very smoothly. I was very impressed by the professionalism, the friendliness and the thoughtfulness of the installation team. When they came into the house to put in the thermostat, they put little paper booties on their shoes to keep my carpets clean. When they left overnight they cleaned up the work site even though they would be returning in the morning. They worked steadily and carefully. The project manager called during the day to check on the work and the workers. 72 Degrees exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: 72 Degrees inspected my existing system, identified the problem with my aged heating/air conditioning system, and sold me a new one. The inspection was very thorough, including crawling under the house to look at all of the duct work in the crawl space, identifying the load on the system, and examining the existing system. The installation team showed up exactly on time, and worked through the day. It became clear that they would have to return the following morning to finish and they totally cleaned up the work site, even though they were returning in the morning. They replaced about a third of my ductwork, installed the new system, and tested everything. It works great.

The ad implied you would receive tune up on both heat and ac side . When the tech arrived I asked if he would be servicing both he said you cant service the ac side during cold weather. after he finished the tune up on the heat side and left a customer srevice rep called from 72 Degrees and asked if I was satisfied with service I told her about the ad stating ac service. I havent heard anymore from the company, not sure The Deal was a good deal for me.

Hello Member! When our technician came out to perform the tune up on Nov 1st it was in fact too cold to service the AC side of your system as he explained. In order for you to receive the full value of this special, we suggested a follow up visit to service the AC side of your unit this coming spring. Although another visit will need to be scheduled around your calendar, this 2nd visit will in fact be free of charge. As 72 Degrees always aims to provide our customers with the highest quality of service, it is advised that you wait until winter is over to tune up the unit correctly. Our office manager has called to talk with you about scheduling this 2nd visit, and we look forward to providing you with a complete and thorough tune up service soon. Thank You! Everything went according to the timelines and commitments made by the company. The installers were efficient and they cleaned up well, leaving everything as they found it. They protected the flooring in the house and removed all the construction debris completely. So far, the systems is working well.
Description of Work: Our air conditioning, both up and downstairs, gave a good bit of trouble during the summer. Our heating has done fine during the prior season, but I wanted to get a good inspection of the unit due to its age (16 years). I got the Angie's List advertised special for a tune up for both systems. Upon checking the heat exchanger, a hole was detected which the technician showed me. And, he stated the capacitators were bad in both units. Finally, he advises that most of the refrigerant had leaked from both AC units and he would need to do some more work to determine the real cause. Because we knew we were near the end of the life expectancy of the sytems, and after a considerable bit of research we decided to replace the units. The price was on the high side of what we would have liked but the way the company did their business was professional. From the sale, installation, and follow up the response has been as good as I would have expected. If the service is as good we will have an hvac company for a long time!

He gave me the part number and we looked it up on the web. The EMM3U board could be had for $165.00. He said that he would get back to me the next day with the price. I didn't hear from him on Thursday and Friday I called in because I didn't want to go the weekend without heat. When he called later n the day, he said that the part would be $550+. No I can understand that they would want to mark up the part a bit, and I'm kinda OK with doubling the price if that was how they would make up the cost of the return call. but almost 4X??? come on.... I ended up buying it over the web as a kit with an new DAT and transformer for about $190. I installed them myself and it worked fine, so the diagnosis was good. I understand that the system was down, but when I went to do the installation, I found that the covers were not properly reinstalled. I guess that was OK if he thought that he was coming back. I had a bit of a problem with the serviceman's dirty hands on my wall leaving smudges. He forgot his tools and I had to run after him as he was leaving to give them to him. The front office was very polite and accommodating. I hope that this was just one of those things with the serviceman having a bad day. Other than these issues he was very polite and cheerful. He did seem to know what he was doing.
Description of Work: The repairman came on Wednesday promptly and looked at my non-working heating system. He found that the Honeywell control board had a burned component and suspected that was the issue.

Hello Member: I'm sorry to hear that you were displeased with the experience you had with 72 Degrees. When our technician came to your home to perform the tune up, he ended up finding a few issues with your system (like the control board) that required repair before a tune up could be performed. Our pricing reflects guarantees that few companies in the Triangle provide, and all work is done by NATE certified (National Alliance for Technical Excellence) technicians - which is important in ensuring your system runs properly and efficiently when being serviced or replaced. I believe our office manager, Susan, has since called and offered to visit your home again to perform a tune up for no additional charge as your original fees went towards diagnostics. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you again, and look forward to winning your approval and loyalty in the near future. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

I used them through the Angie’s List deal. I had to buy a coupon through Angie’s List and then the service was from 72 Degrees. They were really bad. It was like a fine tune-up service for the air conditioner for maybe $100 or $200. We had to get antifreeze on our unit. I could have called somebody off the street from the phone book and I probably would have paid less than what they charged us for 2 gallons. I had previously been charged $35 for the same amount. All they wanted to do was try to get us to replace our whole system. They said we had mold in our system. They raised a lot of red flags. After that, I interviewed five more air conditioning people and they told us that I didn’t really have a problem. I decided to use them when it said reputable company on Angie’s List. I thought they were going to be good, but they really turned our life around by telling us that we had mold in our system, we have to replace the whole thing and we should consider replacing both the systems. So, it was like a nightmare. I checked them out and they had good reviews.
Description of Work: I used the services of 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning maybe in May of 2011 for putting antifreeze on our unit.

I'm sorry to hear that you were displeased with the experience you had with 72 Degrees. We were dispatched to your home to do an Angie’s tune-up on your air conditioning system. During the tune-up the technician determined that your system had an incorrect refrigerant charge. Our procedure for correcting a refrigerant charge is to use the superheat charging method. The process does take more time to properly add refrigerant and the reason we do this is to avoid overcharging the system. It is just as harmful to a system to be overcharged as to be under charged. In fact studies have shown that more than 70% of the residential systems in our area are incorrectly charged and as much as a 32% refrigerant undercharge could go unnoticed and result in a 52% loss in efficiency. There are a lot of individuals today that do not understand how to properly charge a system which results in increased operating cost and premature system failure. Although it does cost more initially to properly charge a system it is far cheaper than greatly overpaying the power company or the thousands of dollars involved in prematurely replacing your system. You will most likely find that the reason we have been able to maintain a high rating on Angie’s List is for our unwillingness to cut corners with our processes for maintaining heating and cooling systems. As for the mold that was located in your air handler, it is likely that you will have had some growth on the evaporator coil and in your drain pan. Since the evaporator is removing moisture from the air in your home, mold does have a tendency to grow in the standing water that was located in your drain pan. I sincerely apologize if our technician alarmed you however it is common to find growth in an air handler. Please feel free to contact me in the office anytime with any further questions you may have. I would be more than happy to reschedule my service department to return to your home to perform a free fall heating tune-up and inspection. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

VERY WELL! Our furnace went out on Friday, Oct. 28th. We called the company with whom we had a maintenance contract to come address the problem. The situation was our furnace was 23 years old and the AC unit was 16 years old. It was going to take $6-700 to "fix" the problem, but the recommendation was to replace the whole system. In addition this company recommended an expensive improvement to the crawl space, and that the furnace be relocated as a "package unit" outside the crawl space. The furnace was going to be a lower efficiency furnace than the one being replaced and the relocation of the unit to the outside seemed to only be for their convience and certainly not for our benefit. The estimated price seemed high but, we accepted their recommendation and scheduled installation for the following Monday. In talking to our son, (who is a residentail contractor some 300 miles away) about the situation and the recommendatioins, he suggested that we contact someone else for a second opinion. We went on line, found several companies, and 72 Degrees called and came to the house Sunday afternoon. The person went under the house, inspected the situation recommending replacement of the units, but certainly not moving the units outside in the elements or getting a lower efficiency unit. The warranties with 72 Degrees were better than the first company as well, so we decided to go with 72 Degrees. They could start installation on Monday as well; showed up when they said they would, and completed the job as promised. We would recommend 72 Degrees wholeheartedly, and we would recommend Kurt and Tony as our "Preferred Technicians!"
Description of Work: We had them install a new furnace and air conditioning. They evaulated our needs and proposed a plan which would not only be workable but cost effective as well. They completed the job in two days but returned the third day when an additional problem was discovered with the zoning circuit board. Every person was honest, thorough, and articulate. We were advised about the entire situation and suggestions were made that were reasonable, not exceeding our need or budget. We just want to add here that the two guys who did the installation were great. Kurt and Tony were very knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient. They were very hard workers and we would have them back again! I had lost my wedding ring a couple days before they arrived for the installation while clearing out the crawl space. Kurt found and returned my ring. He found it as they were cleaning up around the crawl space door as they were finishing the project. This says a lot about his honesty and integrity. Both Kurt and Tony are great fellows!!

They responded prompt and the person came when they said they would come. When he was doing the work, he did not rush and explained exactly what he was doing. I have not had any problems since they came out. They are probably one of the best companies I have gotten since I have been a member of Angie's List.
Description of Work: I purchased 2 Big Deals from Angie's List for $59.00 for them to tune up our air conditioning system. They cleaned the outside of the machine and check to make sure everything was working.

Their receptionist got both my address and phone number wrong. So when the time for my appointment came, no one showed up. Only after calling the receptionist did she figure out what she had done. She offered to have someone come out that evening, but I said it was fine and that someone could come in the morning. The tech came out the next morning on time and helped me figure out an issue with my thermostat and gave me some really good information on keeping my system running efficiently. Other than the receptionist's screw-up, everything went very well. I will definitely use them again and am going to purchase their monthly service agreement.
