Technician came on time and completed his work. HVAC for 2nd floor unit was not cooling that well. He cleaned, tuned it up and filled 1 LB of freon. It is working lot better now.

Very well. Scott was extremely thorough, knowledgable, and informative. He examined both systems, took a full complement of readings through the cycles, performed diagnostics and presented his findings. he made some changes which made the systems run more economically at a less stressed level and then cleaned the systems. I was very impressed with his level of expertise and service. Thus, I signed up for annual maintenance on both units which Scott assures me will extend the life of bot units to their fullest.

Over all the maintenance went extremely well. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: The cost was nothing because I had a maintenance contract for one year with the company. They call to schedule the A/C annual maintenance. I did not have to call them. I was very satisfied with the person who performed the work. He has recommended replacing one part on the blower and that work has been scheduled. Please note that I had to put a $ amount in the above block although the work performed at that time was included in the maintenance agreement I had previously purchased through Angie's list at a discount.

I do understand that with a duct cleaning a tune-up would need to be performed. However, to be pressured to pay for a tune-up even before getting an estimate for service is surprising coming from a company with such a high reputation. **RESPONSE TO THE OWNER** Eddie Blanchard obviously heard about my review and was kind enough to call and apologize for the confusing experience I had when originally calling in. He explained that some of his staff were new and didn't fully understand office procedures. I was very pleased that he called and accepted his offer to have an estimator out to give me an estimate. While we are still deciding which HVAC firm to go with, I do wholeheartedly appreciate the response from Eddie, the owner.
Description of Work: I was alerted to the fact that 72 degrees had a coupon on their website for $100 off air duct cleaning. Seeing as how the wife and I have a baby on the way I thought it would be good to get the ducts cleaned in our 30 year-old house. To preface: We have used 72 degrees before for an AC tuneup performed in November of last year. I filled out their contact form and was contacted by someone not 30 minutes afterward. For that I am very happy. However, the conversation I had with the receptionist was less than stellar: First off the woman on the other end is like “So, is this for service or what?” The webpage that I filled out was for duct cleaning only. Obviously this doesn’t transfer over. So then she tells me, “The way we do duct cleaning is you get an $89 A/C tune-up and then the technician will give you an estimate on the duct cleaning.” Me: “But I don’t want a tune-up, my system has been taken care of. I want duct cleaning.” Her: “Well that estimate comes with the tune-up.” Me: “So is there any way I cannot get the tune-up but get an estimate?” Her: “Well, I guess you could do that, but we’d need to do a tune-up anyways if we did the duct cleaning, so it makes sense to pay the $89.” Also, the technician would need to come out to your house so it makes sense to have them do the tune-up anyways.Me: “Thank you very much, have a good day”

Response from 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning
Dear Member: I'm sorry to hear the receptionist (fairly new employee) who took your call did not properly explain the advantages of us providing a tune-up with a free estimate versus the charge for us to come out, inspect the system and provide just a duct cleaning estimate. I also want to apologize for the lack of professionalism you received during this call for information, and let you know it has since been adressed and corrected. As a returning customer, I hope you realize this is not the norm here and were happy with the services previously provided! What our receptionist should have clearly conveyed was that we have to charge customers who aren't on regular maintenance agreements a fee to come out and diagnose problems or provide estimates in order to cover employee wage and travel costs. Duct cleaning estimates can vary greatly depending on the size of your home, number of systems, and the actual duct work construction. We always recommend customers have tune-ups performed twice a year, so in order to provide you with more than an estimate for the cost of the call, we also wanted to provide you with a tune up for about the same price. I understand you felt like we were trying to upsell you on unecessary services, and apologize again for your frustration. That said, please call the office and ask for me personally so we can discuss how to get the work you wish to receive done promptly and efficiently as we strive to ensure all customers have 100% satisfaction. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

I just received an unrequested credit card that 72 Degrees Heating and Air opened in my name. I cannot express strongly enough how furious this makes me. I in no way authorized the company to apply for this card for me, and they in no way notified me that they had opened this account. I will be consulting a lawyer regarding my rights in this action on their part and in compensation for any consequences their actions have on my credit rating. I called this company for a quote on installing an HVAC system. They promptly sent over an agent, who gave a very practiced sales pitch that lasted two hours and included an offer to see if I qualified for a loan through their partner agency in order to pay for their (as yet unpriced) system. He did not provide a quote until I had provided information sufficient to run a credit check. Only after they had checked my credit did the agent suddenly settle on a quote, which was twice as high as the number I had previously stated was within my budget, but which was conveniently less than the limit of the loan they could offer me. I subsequently did everything I could to get the agent to leave as quickly as possible, while maintaining a polite demeanor. He continued to try to sell me a product that I clearly was not interested in. It was only after I repeatedly promised to call him within the day to tell him my final decision that he actually left. Regardless of the quality of their work, these business practices, coupled with my subsequent surprise credit card, in my estimation should completely remove this company from Angie's List's Super Service Award ranking. More importantly, this experience has irrevocably damaged my trust in Angie's List's ability to properly vet its award recipients. Overall, I found this company completely untrustworthy, underhanded, and having more in common with a con than with any legitimate business venture. One thing that I appreciated about this business's page was the dedication of the owner to answering each and every review posted. I will be very interested to see how he addresses this complaint, and how he tries to explain this egregious over-step of his company's authority. DON"T BUY IT! A truly honest company, one that actually valued its customers or their feedback, would not have in place an automatic process for initiating a credit card application, particularly for a client who had expressly stated that she was not interested in the product. I am extremely disappointed.
Description of Work: I called for a quote to install an HVAC system from the ground up. The woman on the phone who took my call asked if I would be interested in financing. This should have been my first clue, but the company has a super service award from Angie's list so I let it go as a miscommunication. I told her I only wanted to know how much it might cost. She said she'd send a salesman by the next morning. The salesman arrived promptly at 9 and launched into what would become a two hour pitch. He said that there were 57,000 different options for HVAC systems, and that they would not be able to narrow down the options without gathering some information. After an hour of talking about the company and their various guarantees and qualifications, but before measuring the space, he asked what my budget was, and upon learning it told me that it was unlikely he would be able to come in within that price. I asked him to give me a quote anyway, and he suggested that I might be interested in financing. I told him that might be an option, depending on the cost, and he suggested that I could get financing through their partner at approximately 9%. I filled out a form so that they could see if I would qualify for a loan. After I had filled out the form, he called it in to the company. He then measured the space and measured 1 window of 9 in the house. Conveniently, the loan information came back before he gave me a quote. Rather than just telling me the quote, he wanted me to guess what it would be. I told him I didn't like guessing games, but guessed that it would be something I could afford. The quote he then gave me was twice as much as I had told him was in my budget, but less than the limit of the loan. I told him it was likely to be too much. He told me that he could offer me 5% off if I made a decision now, so he wouldn't have to come back out. I told him I would need some time to think about the cost. He told me that "since i had been such a good sport" with the guessing game that he would throw in two, no four fancy filters. I told him I was still not convinced. He proceded to tell me all about the worksmanship and the good reviews the as a company have received. I told him I didn't like to make big decisions under pressure. He told me that he hoped he wasn't pressuring me. I told him I would need until the end of the day to decide. He told me that he would be in the area and again spoke about the excellent work they were planning on doing. He gave me a form that summarized the estimate. I told him I would call him. He left. 30 minutes later, I called him and told him I wasn't interested in having the work done. He said ok. Ten minutes later, he called me and asked why I wasn't going to have the work done. I told him it was more than I had budgeted. He told me that I wasn't likely to be able to get the work done within that amount. I thanked him for his advice and told him that I would consider his company in the future if things changed. The next week, I received a credit card that the company had opened in my name without my permission.

I am writing to respond to the member's complaint. When we enter a home we consider it an honor that a client would allow us to work for them. We know this is a big decision and a lot of times we do spend time trying to get to know the client and what they will be looking for in a home comfort system before we jump in to the designing of the system. It is also very important to understand where the clients budget is in order to help them choose the system that meets the budget instead of designing a system that is outside their budget. She had no central heatng and cooling system. In order for us to come in a provide the electrical service upgrade, install all new ductwork and then to install a new heating and cooling system it was going to exceed her budget of $5000. With the cost of materials, equipment and labor, it was not going to be possible for us to do all of the required work for what she had budgeted. At this point we did ask her if she would like us to look into some low interest financing to help her with the project. When she indicated yes we contacted one of the banks that will accept heating and cooling replacement loans. With todays technology most any bank is able to give us an immediate response on approvals. The member was approved for the project amount. We have no control on what amount the bank will approve. Once you contact a bank such as Wells Fargo and get an approval they will immediately send out a credit card with the amount that the client was approved for. We again have no control on how Wells Fargo operates their business. We would have no way to get anything from them until they sign the Wells Fargo completion contract after the job is complete. It is my understanding that this is a state law. After we left her home with the signed contract she did call us about thirty minutes to explain to us that after talking to her real estate agent that she could not afford to put any more than $5000 into the home because the the home was being put on the market and she would not be able to recoup her investment. We completely understand and would agree that if you are selling the home you stand a good chance in not recovering your investment. We contacted the member on this matter and it appeared that she had agreed that this was all a misunderstanding. I do not feel at this point we did anything wrong. A lot of what she feel's we did to violate her trust is not in our control and is considered standard in the financing world. If there is anything I can do please feel free to contact me directly. Sincerely Yours, Eddie Blanchard President and Owner

Company staff, was in general very responsive and courteous. However, service tech. diagnosed as a "bad compressor" because it was drawing slightly more amps than the technician felt it should (but still well below the maximum amperage) Recommended replacement of system, which we were in agreement with, as the system is 10 plus years of age. Upon a visit by a sales rep. (later), found their pricing was very high, well above competition. Spent nearly two hours listening to a sales pitch on the company before even discussing the system, which we had to "force" into the conversation. We then had to just come out and give him a price range, (based upon two more extensive system change outs which we've had performed recently on another property) upon which he informed us that he would not be able to come close to. Perhaps it was just this one sales rep., but seemed to us that it was far too difficult to discuss system specifics and pricing, felt similar to other "high pressure" sales techniques we've seen with some siding/window/carpet/flooring companies where they require all parties to be present and expect a decision to be made to close the sale as quickly as possible. Sales rep. left quickly without even writing a quote when he found that we felt their pricing was too high for the job being discussed.
Description of Work: A/C service: check freon, clean coil, amperage check; and follow-up HVAC system sales quote.

We called to request a service call and left a callback number. A representative called back but, unfortunately, we were not home at the time. The representative left a message with her name to call back. Called back that afternoon and asked for the rep. She was busy, so we left a message with another rep for the rep who called us to call us back. No call was received that day. When no call was received by about midday the following day, we called back. The rep who had left the original message was able to talk with us and scheduled the service call for the following morning. We were surprised that it took two full days (Monday & Tuesday) to get the service call scheduled for the third day after our initial call (Wednesday). The service personnel arrived as scheduled. When they arrived, we discussed the delay in response. They were very efficient and seemed very knowledgeable. They took as much time as I wanted to explain everything. The problem was a bad capacitor, which they replaced. While examining the unit, they discovered that the electrical signal was too strong coming into the unit. They tested this with me watching and it became very clear to me that the start kit was needed. They also installed this unit. After describing the company's Preferred Membership Program which includes two complimentary tune-ups per year, reduced diagnostic service fees and discounts on repairs and equipment with a 5 year unlimited parts and labor warranty on all repairs, I decided to also purchase this for both units I have.Overall, I believe that 72 Degrees will prove to be a very good company to attend to our HVAC matters in the future.

It went very well. I would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: I responded to the ad for an AC Tune up. The team showed up on time. Very friendly and performed the service. One of the service professional noticed a part that could be replaced in the near future - no rush. That it could last another year. He explained to me the pros and cons of waiting verses replacing it while they were there or even using another service. I decided to replace it then...I don't like surprises. I did not want my unit to stop working in this heat we are now experiencing. He even showed me how much I could save on my electric bill by replacing it.

Overall, the price was great since it was a coupon special. Communication was poor. They need to make clear they will cancel your appointment without your consent. First appointment was cancelled due to extreme heat and needing to service their existing customers. This I understand but how they handled it was poor. They called and left a message the day before the appointment asking to cancel the appointment. Since I did not get home until after business hours, I left them a message that I had already taken time off from work and that I would like them to keep the appointment. They didn't. Second appointment was cancelled due to rain. This I understand but they knew it was raining when they called me to leave work and meet them at the house. Had me wait for half an hour for the rain to stop, then cancelled the appointment. Each time they cancelled, there was no urgency to reschedule the appointment. Took three tries and over 18 days to get my service done.

He gave us a figure and said, "But if you sign today, I can knock off $1000." That is an automatic fail in my book. If you're not honest enough to give me your price up front, we're not doing business. The company that did the work gave me an estimate within $100 of the "discount" price.

Hi, It's interesting that you have decided to post this response a year after we visited your home to provide an estimate for a new HVAC system. Yes, we do offer discounts as incentives to new customers during our busy season as schedules fill up quickly and we want to fit you in as soon as possible. Most customers find this to be a bonus. We also offer an "apples to apples" guarantee with other companies in terms of pricing, so if the company you decided to use was within $100 of our quoted price (and we did provide price options while there) we would have matched that. That said, I'm unsure if the company who installed your new system offered the same line items we would offer with a new HVAC unit. We appreciate the opportunity to enter your home and provide quiotes, and are sorry to here our discounted offer was disappointing to you. Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

From start to finish, they made what should have been simple maintenance SIMPLE. Thanks guys.
Description of Work: We first contacted this company last fall when our previous HVAC company failed to provide contracted services. 72 Degrees has been prompt, polite and efficient. They actually asked to check out part of our system located in the crawlspace. Our previous HVAC had been servicing our system for 7 years and never once asked for access! First impressions were so good, I was even convinced to purchase their yearly service contact. I haven't regretted it either. They contacted me ON TIME for the summer service. I highly recommend this company.

I hate to put down the scores for responsiveness and punctuality because it had been 105 degrees for a couple of days when our ac stopped working and the service guys were swamped. When he showed up he was very professional and personable. He even put on protective covers over his boots to protect the floors when he came in the house. He diagnosed the problem quickly, fixed it, and was out of here within a half an hour. It was 7pm and he still had two more stops scheduled. I think the guy deserves a medal!
Description of Work: AC unit stopped working Friday night. Called for a repair about 7am. The motor overheated and blew the capacitor. He replaced the capacitor and we poured water over the unit to cool down the motor. Luckily, nothing else was wrong.

I was very impressed with 72 Degrees. They had a wonderful gentleman come out to look at our house and do a thorough evaluation of our needs and wants. He looked at the insulation and number of windows in the house as well as the existing units. He also gave me a very detailed explanation of his calculations on the size and type of unit he recommended to us. He came back out a second time to answer some additional questions for my husband. We got 2 additional estimates, but agreed to go with this contractor and were not disappointed. They showed up on time and were completely prepared to do the work They called before they arrived each morning. The technicians who completed the work were both very pleasant and professional. They were always careful to use shoe covers when coming into the house to work. They completed the work more quickly than the original estimation, and kept us informed of their plans and progress. Most importantly our system functions beautifully even in the 100+ degree heat in a very poorly insulated, old house.

One of our AC units was completely dead. After 18 years, we decided that it was finally time to replace both units. We called 3 companies (off of Angies List). One was professional, but would not negotiate, the other was completely unprofessional. The salesman would not give us a written quote and his knowledge of the industry / product was not good. 72 Degrees was the last to come in and the salesman was professional, knowledgeable and worked with us on the pricing. They were not the lowest, but we felt comfortable and confident with their capabilities. We did not feel the need to call in another company. We set the install date, they came out on time, installed / tested product and were finished on time. A few days later we had a small leak (condensation) under the house, but they came out immediately and fixed the problem. I would recommend 72 Degrees and I will also use them for any service we may need on the units.
Description of Work: We replaced our AC units upstairs / downstairs. 72 Degrees provided us with a quote and detailed information on product and services to be performed.

After a nice day at the beach, I came home to find the upstairs of my home was a chilly 88 degress...of course, it was 103 outside that day. My house has two units, one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The upstairs unit was blowing very warm air, so I turned off the unit in hopes that maybe it had just frozen up from the heat. I left it off all night and turned it back on the next morning (this was a Saturday). After a call to my usual AC company, I waited patiently for a call back. Well, needless to say, by Saturday evening I had called them twice more and still no response. I did a search on Angie's List for AC repair and found these guys. I sent an email Saturday night figuring I would hear from someone on Monday morning. Much to my surprise, I received a call Sunday morning and spoke with a nice young lady (Sara) that said she could have someone there THAT AFTERNOON. Unfortunately, I had to work that day so I asked if I could just wait until Monday. She scheduled me for 10AM on Monday. Right on time on Monday, Dan, the technician arrived and immediately resolved the issue and got my system working again. I was so thoroughly impressed with his knowledge and efficiency that I also immediately signed up for their maintanance agreement. Dan was very polite, very knowledgeable and was eager to answer all questions that I had. The entire appointment was no more than an hour and my AC was blowing nice and cold again. I would highly recommend this group.
Description of Work: Repair of one unit, signed up for yearly maintenance.

Curtis arrived within the scheduled time. He was polite, courteous and professional at all times. He showed great respect for my home by wearing booties each time he entered, and was careful not to let my roaming Dalmatian escape. He identified the problem quickly and efficiently. (Ground had built up over time, so that the exterior drain pipes were not properly expelling water. He even dug a temporary trench and secured the pipes with a cinder block I had so that water would not backup again. I had explained to him that I just had a drainage guy finish some work not two hours before Curtis' arrival and did not know when I could get him back. Clearly service above and beyond the call of duty and in 90 degree heat as well. I cannot say enough about his service. The phone staff at 72 degrees were pleasant to deal with as well. I was even informed a day in advance that my appointment could be moved up if I so choose, and the pleasant office girl called to advise me of Curtis' arrival

I appreciated that the project manager was able to come to my house later that same day when I called them first thing in the morning. The project manager was on time and did a thorough job in taking measurements and talking with me about what kind of system I should get. However, once I made it clear that I was getting several estimates, the project manager would not give me a number other than the MSRP in their "book" until i was "serious" about working with them. I was unable to give them a rating on price for this reason. I gave them a rating of B for professionalism because the person who came to my house seemed upset by the fact that I already knew a lot about my system - I think he thought I was going to be "wowed" by all of the company's guarantees, when I heard the same things from 2 other companies I talked to. He also spent the longest in my house (almost 2 hours) and left me without a quote beyond the suggested retail price. I felt he could have been significantly more efficient and not wasted my time. Finally, he did not discuss the rebate offered by my energy company ($200) which was only relevant if I got a particular type of system (which would have been useful to know when explaining the different options).
Description of Work: I received a free estimate from 72 Degrees after I had been told by another company that I needed to replace my system.

We have really good service with them. They came out immediately and told us what they could offer us and they didn't high pressure us. They also have a very good guarantee and warranty system so if you have any problems they will come back and fix it and that is over a long period of time from what the salesman explained to us. The company is very good with follow up . They contacted us to make sure everything went well with the sale and then they called to make sure everything went good with installation and if we had any problems or any questions.I enjoyed their thoroughness of how excellent and great they were to help us get the things we needed. They were super personable and attentive.
Description of Work: I use 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning for my air conditioning and heating company. They put in a whole new heating and air conditioning system for us and they do all of our servicing . They come three times a year for servicing.
