My system was checked out and there were problems with the system. I needed to have the unit replaced. My unit was turned off because of the chance of carbon monoxide. They were very professional.

Hello Customer, Thank you for taking time to post this response on Angie's List. While it is always scary to find out your system is leaking dangerous fumes like carbon monoxide and needs to be replaced, it is certainly fortunate we found this issue and resolved it with a new system. We hope you are enjoying the comfort our unit provides, and look forward to doing business with you again! Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

The company used different crews to remove the old systems and replace the new ones. They brought quite a few workers and both the removal and install were complete in one day. They were very much on task and efficient. h
Description of Work: Replaced both gas furnaces and air conditioner units. Systems were 17 years old and had safety issues. After looking at several options and several companies, decided to get bids for entire system. The price was slightly more than competitors but we were given a good energy/cost savings assurance with the systems.

Very professional and personable technician. He commented on my oil furnace as a real rarity in the south, even took a look at it, simply amazed that I had one, plus told me that it appeared also to be on good shape, guessed its age (came within a year). He also advised me to get the ivy away from my A/C pad. He was from the Boston area, which is why he recognized my oil furnace. That instantly made his company my preferred company in case my furnace goes out.
Description of Work: The tech checked and cleaned my outside unit, tested the level of coolant, inspected the tubing, other areas of breakage or leaks and told me that my unit should last for a long time.

They gave an Angie's List coupon even though I did not print it out. They were able to come the same day when other companies could not. The technician was friendly and knowledgeable, got me up and running, and did a great job. This was when the temperatures were in the 90 degrees plus range.

Full installation took two weeks and not the one day originally promised. Delays were because missing or incorrectly ordered parts and sick workmen. Apparently not a large enough company to cover missing workmen. The enlarged air return upstairs was supposed to improve equalization of temperature between upstairs and down - it has not. The new Amana unit is very quiet - no complaints there. Workmen left stains in carpet necessitating professional carpet cleaning which they say they will cover. Went through three estimates before hiring this company. They were the middle priced of the three.
Description of Work: Removed existing and Installed new heating and air conditioning units. Replaced air return ducts (2) and cleaned existing duct work.

We have found a gem in this company. Since moving to North Carolina in August, we have had 72 Degrees do a number of HVAC checks and repairs along with the installation of surge protectors on our equipment. They even had to install a motor on one of the furnaces. We have talked with both Nikki and Barbara on the phone. Each has provided cheerful, efficient service and ensures the work is scheduled almost immediately. Both Curtis and Dan have provided service. Curtis even came on a Sunday to install the motor. Dan came on New Year's Eve to take care of a non-working heat pump. Both of these men have provided helpful information and instruction on the equipment and have given thorough service, plus they are really nice guys to have come. Finding this company through Angie's List has been a real plus to our relocation to North Carolina.
Description of Work: Work done: HVAC seasonal checks on both heating and cooling equipment; repairs on an air conditioning unit as well as the installation of surge protectors on our HVAC equipment. They also had to install a motor on one of the furnaces; repair of non-working heat pump.

The house has two units, one upstairs and one downstairs. The service guy was here about 45 minutes total and told me that I needed one new system, and although I could get by with the other one, it was rusted out and would need major repairs soon since both were probably put in when the house was built (in the 90s). I obviously needed a second opinion and consulted Angie's List for a second name. The second inspection was quite different. This time I was told that both units were fine... that one was newer than the other, but both were in good condition. I purchased a service contract and will see them when it is time for the spring inspection before AC time. I have had no problems with either unit.
Description of Work: First, the money spent was for the inspection, and second the service date is "approximate." I purchased this home about a year ago, and although the heating/ac system passed inspection, I wanted to ensure everything was ok and purchase a service contract. Also, I moved from a home with all electric heat and air, and this house has gas heat, which I knew nothing about and needed to be educated.

Dear Member, My name is Eddie Blanchard. I am the owner and gereral manager of 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning. After reading your review I was a little concerned because it is always concerning when we get such a negative review. Upon research I noticed a discrepancy with the information provided. We maintain detailed records of every call and we show that we went to your home on November 26,2011 and not September 03,2012. Next we have gps tracking on all of our trucks and we have our truck arriving at your home 15minutes early at 9:45 and not leaving your home until 12pm. Our records show that we informed you that your upsairs and down stairs furnaces were fine and that both ac coils were severely rusted. There were also a couple of wear parts that were showing weak and were pitted. Our technicians are there to provide you with all of your options. Based on the condition of you air conditioners he felt that it would be appropriate to inform you that in the long run it might be advisable to consider your options for replacement. Neither of the systems had any remaining warranties on them. Based on the efficiencies of new systems sometimes it can prove to be more ecomomical to replace vs repair. I have been in this situation before where a technician came behind after us and they tell the client that there is nothing wrong with the system. Then after we returned to confirm our evaluation we find out that the other technician that came after us simply did none of the appropriate tests that are required in order to give a true assessment of a clients system. I will be more than happy to provide you with a free second evaluation of your systems in which case I will personnally be present for the evaluation. Please feel free to call me anytime.

He arrived on time and explained the process.
Description of Work: The service person mentioned that he was cleaning the furnace. I was not in the attic when he was performing the service. I did ask him if the furnace had anything to do with the cold air that blows into the room preceding the warm air and he mentioned that he did something to fix the issue but it was still the same after his visit. To be honest, it it difficult to rate them because there is not anything to measure by.

Dear Member: While it is good to know our technician was punctual and professional on the service call, I'm disappointed to hear you are still having issues with cold air blowing in one of your home's rooms. It is our mission to ensure each customer is 100% satisfied on each call we make, and if the issue was not fixed permanently we would be happy to come out free of charge and inspect it again. It has been nearly a year since our last call, and is probably time for another routine maintenance on your equipment. If there are parts that need to be replaced in order to fix the problem we will have to charge for those parts. However, we would like to resolve your issue as quickly and economically as possible. Please give us a call at 919-777-2777 and ask for me personally to schedule an appointment. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

Not too bad. I purchased this as an "Angie's big deal" for $49.00. The technician came out and told me my unit was pretty old and needed a component to help it start quicker so there would'nt be so much strain on the system so I agreed to buy it. I did not need any freon but the technician suggested a service plan which I did purchase. A different technician came back in the fall to check the heating system. He suggested a chemical cleaner to clean the cooling fins inside the heater. It was pretty expensive so I declined and he said I should have it done next time. They seemed to do good work but I was under the impression that they were always wanting me to buy something else.

Hello Member: We certainly appreciate your business, and are grateful to have you as a regularly scheduled maintenance customer. While it is sometimes frustrating to learn about costly repairs upon the visit of a service technician in our industry or another similar industry (electricians, plumbing, etc.) we aim to be thorough and honest about what we find upon each service call. It is our job to educate all customers on the benefits and importance of fixing present or future system issues so they can make informed decisions on what to fix according to their budget. If there is any question about our technician's suggestions in future appointments please don't hesitate to call and talk with me. Again, we appreciate your business and look forward to working with you to ensure your family's home comfort. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

It went very well. The tech spent quite a bit of time cleaning the unit with his own water hose and cleaning materials. He gave us a report of several things that should be fixed, such as the air ducts. He took pictures under the house so we could see what he was describing. At one point, he washed a copperhead out of under our air unit, and still kept working! He was brave. He was also very personable. He represented the company well.

The technician arrived about 20 min. late (note we were a 3-5PM appointment so not too bad). On arrival, I reviewed with him that the lower unit was filling with water in the overflow pan. He looked at the piping and blew thru the overflow valve using his mouth. This cleared the u joint and he told me he'd double check, but this should do it for the overflow pan problem. After performing the service he gave me a bill for an incremental $179 for fixing the overflow pan problem. i let him go, but called the office the next day as I was irritated it cost $179 to blow thru the pipe. The office was great and gave me a free creidt for future service and all eneded well.

I found a coupon for an annual checkup on my heating system. I called and made an appointment. Two days before the appointment, the company called and asked to reschedule because a technician was ill. We rescheduled and they did come on the rescheduled date. The serviceman was polite and respectful, answering all my questions. He checked both my systems and found that a capacitor was bad on my AC unit and warned that it might cause the compressor to not work when I started using the AC in the spring/summer. If that happened, it would cost a service trip charge so I decided to go ahead and have him fix it now. He brought the part into the house and measured it so I could see that it was out of spec to insure that I knew I did need it. He fixed it and then offered an annual contract which I declined so that I could continue to use coupons as they became available.

I take no pleasure in writing a negative review, but Angie's list has been after my feedback for months. Other customers deserve to know. I bought a "Big Deal" offer. Face value of $49 towards repair, but $500 towards installation if I needed a new heating system. The owner was nice. I spoke to him directly. However, no one else knew about the Big Deal. What I wanted was simple - Can you repair it? If not, give me an estimate for a new one. The new one was apparently more exciting because they sent a sales rep that could not evaluate the unit. I complained and the owner apologized. He promised a bona fide repair person the next day. It was 50 degrees in the house for the sales call. He did not know anything about the $500, but he proceeded to write down $12,000, then he scratched it out, and wrote $10,000. He thought he was being gracious since the "discount" was bigger than $500. What was really going on was obvious. It was pretty awful. When the repair guy showed up the next day, he was clearly competent. He got right to work. He suggested a new system. He was being sincere. I told him that I really wanted one more season out of the unit. He found a small part that had failed. "Can you believe that they want $250 for this part?" Frankly, I didn't believe him, so I said that he should not bother, and that I would explore other options. I was willing to do this even with no heat in the house, and knowing that I had to wait. He responded, "What if I could do it for $75". I agreed paying about $100 after my $49 prepayment was applied. The $49 covered part of the service call, but not the part. I was so uncomfortable that I had a second repair man from another company review his work. I was suspicious about the part. I was able to confirm that his original quote was very, very high. It took numerous phone calls to get the $49 applied to the repair. I was repeatedly told that it only applied to new equipment. I had to take a screen shot of the Angie's List email and send a copy to the office. I was charged the full amount, but eventually the charge was corrected. So twice the first price was a complete fiction, and then they bargin from there. A year later, and it still makes me uncomfortable. I would never do business with them again. I have lapsed my Angie's list subscription. It was such a turn off that I would never utilize a Big Deal again from any service provider. UPDATE: I emailed the receipt for the "Big Deal" to 72 Degrees, but didn't get a response. As a courtesy I waited a month before posting this update. I found the original receipt. 1/20/12, Tech "Chris H.", amount paid $79 Diagnostic Fee, $132 "Rollout switch" totaling $211. My other HVAC guy wasn't too impressed with those prices, and that was after coming down from $250 for the switch. I didn't expect HVAC prices to be like bargaining at a yard sale or used car dealer. There could be a billing address, physical address mixup, but there is certainly no confusion about the service provider. I'm sure the statement was intended to attenuate the impact of my review, but I think failing to find me simply makes it look worse. I think you have better options out there. Caveat Emptor.
Description of Work: My heating system failed. It was quite cold in the house. I wanted the system evaluated for either repair or replacement. Although the system had stopped working, the sales rep came out first, and provided a quote. The next day a serviceman arrived. Although, he recommended a new system, he did find a part that needed replacement.

Response from 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning
Dear customer, We at 72 Degrees do not have you anywhere in our records or software system that tracks present and past customers. Is it possible you posted this review on the wrong company page? Your ordeal sounds frustrating, and it is disappointing to hear the salesman and technician who entered your home last January were dishonest on pricing. If you have not yet found an HVAC contractor you trust and value, please feel free to give us a call at 919-777-2777 for future service needs. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees
