My HVAC system was installed new 4 years ago by a competing firm. My ductwork was replaced new a year ago by a 2nd competing firm. But the local power company has said that I'm using energy less efficiently that my most efficient neighbors, but better than the average of all neighbors. The power company has an approved list of HVAC contractors for performing HVAC energy audits, and Angie's List has a large number of A-rated HVAC contractors, but there were only two HVAC contractors on both lists, and of those two contractors I selected 72 Degrees Hearing and Air to do my audit. The team from 72 Degrees Heating and Air that did my audit comprised the service manager and a senior audit technician. They checked the installation of my HVAC equipment and the new ductwork, pronouncing them sound, then performed a series of 21 tests that comprise the formal energy audit. My start-up efficiency was 98%, steady-state efficiency 95%. There was nothing wrong with my system that would improve the efficiencies. I was given a list of 3 items that I could perform to forestall more expensive maintenance later, and some 3 more items that I might consider to improve comfort in the home. The only advice that was given that might improve my standing with the local power company in comparison with my most efficient neighbors was to consider replacing our windows and improving/replacing the insulation in the attic. These measures are being considered. All-in-all, 72 Degrees Hearing and Air did a very professional job. They gave me written results of their testing, and then explained verbally what the results said. They gave me quotations on improvements they could offer to improve my system if I wanted them to do that work. I highly recommend them for the services they performed for me.
Description of Work: The provider performed an HVAC energy audit, a set of tests prescribed by the local power company, and whose results were sent to the local power company (after sharing with me).

The technician arrived on time and made a correct diagnosis on the needed repair. However, prior to scheduling the appointment I was told that this company would do warranty work on my HVAC system. After the needed part was identified, the company then told me that it was not worth their time to work with the supplier to get the part under warranty. They were apologetic and did provide the exact information of the necessary repairs, but said they could not help me OR I could pay for the repair directly without warranty assistance. They dropped the price of the service call by $25, but it would have been more helpful to know that they could/would not work with the manufacturer for the warranty repair prior to the visit.
Description of Work: Diagnosed a needed repair for an AC unit. Needed repair was identified correctly, but the company was unable to make the repair.

Everyone involved with the project was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. They even provided a part for our old AC so that we could be cool until the new system was installed. We are totally pleased with the new system and with the entire process with 72 Degrees.

The experience was terrible. They tried to tell us that we had to get a new unit, which we did, that wasn't the problem. The problem was that they turned us off, in the middle of winter and we had a new baby, and they said that they had to turn it off. They were basically forcing us to buy a unit from them. They said there holes in the coil, there were tiny holes, nothing like extreme. He shut it down, trying to get us to buy a 4000 dollar unit. We called somebody else who came out and turned the unit back on and said that we did need a new unit but we were not freezing the house. They turned our heat back on until we could get a new unit installed. They told us that if the holes were big, then we would have to worry about carbon dioxide getting into the house. 72 degrees said that he had turned off the unit and we couldn't turn it back on and we actually had snow that week. The pricing was terrible, he was trying to oversell us. We called them to come back and turn on the unit, they didn't respond. They came quickly the first time they were called and the guy came in late and he got a speeding ticket by our school lane and he was complaining about it.

Hello (deleted member name); I distinctly remember talking with you and your husband during this call over a year ago. With a new baby in the house, our biggest concern was your comfort since the system wasn't working properly, and also your safety. We turned the unit off after finding holes in your system because of the carbon monoxide leaking from your unit - a deadly gas that could have hurt your family - especially your new baby. We carry equipment that specifically tests for this, and our reading was of course positive that day. Knowing the very cold week that lay ahead, our technician ran back to our office to grab multiple heaters to keep the house warm until a new unit could be installed the next day. This was not a ploy to force you into buying a new system, as you probably discovered when the second company insisted on replacing the unit as well, but rather to protect your family. We have no record of our technician receiving a speeding ticket in our van, so perhaps this was someone from the second company you called. If the estimate you received from the second company was lower, it may not have been an apples to apples comparison of all the benefits ours included. We also try to provide each potential customer with 2-3 estimate options to accommodate their budget. I am sorry to hear you were so displeased with our findings and process on this call last year. It's always difficult to learn you are in need of costly repairs or a system replacement, just like it's hard to be faced with car issues, etc. We are glad to hear your system was promptly replaced and that no damage was done due to the dangerous leaks. 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning replaced our air conditioners and they did a really good job. The guys are nice and very professional. That's really it. They call us to make an appointment, so we don't have to call and remind them to do it. They come out, they do the job. They're very friendly. They were their booties, even though they don't need to, because we have a kid and a dog. You can't mess up our floors more than they already are. He puts on his booties and he walks around inside and he gets the job done and leaves. That's pretty much all you want from a service company, right? We had really good experiences with them.

He arrived on time, introduced himself. He came inside, I explained that the unit was blowing almost continually and wasn't giving out cold air. We walked outside, he took the unit apart, expected the unit itself and all around it. Told me the problem, and gave me a quote with his little machine. I said fix it, he said ok and got to work. I went inside. He came to the door when the work was complete, he looked at the thermostat in the home, gave me a few pointers on how to keep my unit efficient with clean filters, programmable thermostat and such. He introduced me to the maintenance program sponsored by his company. I paid and he left. The area was clean, I felt confident in his work and I appreciated that he took the time to explain to me the problem and to leave me with pointers to help my unit run efficiently.
Description of Work: Replaced a switch in the air conditioner. I can't remember exactly the name of the part, but our air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air.

The company provided an estimate to replace my HVAC system. Jeff Piskorik from 72 degrees came out to provide the estimate. While the other estimates I received took around 15 to 30 minutes, this took nearly an hour and a half. The majority of the time was spent talking at my kitchen table rather than evaluating my HVAC system. This gave the experience a slimy sales pitch feel. He did lots of things that made it feel forced rather than real. For instance, he intentionally used my name in every second or third sentences and it didn't sound sincere. He took lots of measurements of the house to obtain the square footage. He looked at the system to be replaced for about 5 minutes. Perhaps my biggest complaint was the turn around on the estimate. Jeff visited my home on a Monday. I did not recieve his email with the estimate until Friday. When the estimate arrived via email it was a photo of a hastily scralled hand written page. Other estimates gave specific manufacturers, model numbers etc. while this one gave only the bare details and few specifics of what system would be used. Because of this lack of detail there is no way I would be able to make any comparisons to other estimates. Overall this company did not make me feel like they were trying to win business in a honest and straight forward way, but instead trying to score a quick buck with sales techniques.

It was unexpected. The gentleman came and set up on time and review the furnace and everything checked out okay. Overall it was pleasant a experience. I would definitely recommend the contractor that came, I feel he's kind of incredibly thorough, willing to explain things that he did find, he made some suggestions from the safety perspective that weren't overly dangerous per say but were something that we did call out gas company become correct. I thought he went above and beyond for sure and was much appreciated.

it went well. Kyle is a great service technician, very polite, friendly, careful and attending to details. he's very patient and took time to answer my questions and explain what he was doing in a way that anyone can easily understand. you never feel that he's trying to find something that he can sell you other services, very honest. staffs in 72hours office are also great, they are polite, prompt and flexible to accommodate my schedule. my experience with 72hr is great and I would definitely recommend their service to friend and I would ask for Kyle again next time I use their service.

They were trying to sell me a new unit and a service contract and things like that. I purchased a service contract with them and then I cancelled it. I did not get a refund. Their policy is to not give a refund on the monthly payment option. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning did a preseason check up. They inspected the duct work and cleaned the coils. It was a basic maintenance.

They came and did the checks stated in the deal. The technician said I had a tear in one of my ducts. I had it double checked and it was determined there was no tear.

They originally quoted over $700 to replace valve (it appeared that I could buy the valve new online for about 100-125). I then mentioned that I'd only been in house for less than 5 years and pressed them to explore warranty. They later claimed to save us $ by getting the mfgr to agree to warranty the part

The service guy from 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning who came out for the servicing was really nice. The sales guy that came out to do the quote never got back with us, even though I called him about four times.
Description of Work: I used an Angie's Big Deal to get our air conditioning system serviced. I also got a quote for an HVAC system for our upstairs area. I only paid for the Angie's List coupon.

I had had this problem diagnosed by another company the day before, and wanted a second tech to look things over to compare the results. The first company's diagnosis was extremely short, and I was told I needed to replace the entire system. The estimate I was given was $11,000. When 72 Degrees came out, I didn't inform them that another company had already recommended replacement, I simply asked them to figure out why my AC wasn't working. Daniel found the same issue that the first company found - a short in the compressor. Unlike the first company, however, he tracked down what was shorting and where it was shorting out - it was a phase-to-phase short in the whip coming out of the disconnect box. He then replaced the disconnect box and the whip, and restored complete function to my AC system for a total cost of about $350 - literally thousands of dollars less than the other company wanted from me. When it does come time to replace this 24 year old system - which will most likely happen in the next 3 to 5 years - 72 Degrees will be at or near the top of the list to get the contract to do so.

I like their service when they replace our heating and air conditioning unit. I was told how to use and do the maintenance on the new unit. The technicians were professional and very knowledgeable. They also added a vapor barer under my home when we add the new unit to prevent moisture from building under our home. We are very satisfied and would use them again if needed.
Description of Work: We hired 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning to replace our Central air and heating unit about a little over year ago.
