The salesman spent a lot of time talking about how they do an audit afterwards to ensure everything is operating efficiently and no other company does that. He wanted to sell a low end Amana unit with 13 SEER efficiency for more than Air Experts was selling a mid-range Lennox unit with 16 SEER efficiency. No specific part numbers of any of the proposed equipment was provided. A standard thermostat was offered instead of a wireless thermostat that can be controlled from your smartphone. No media filter was provided. When I phoned the salesman to notify him we had selected another provider, I offered to tell him why. He never returned the call. At my business we always want feedback from customers, especially the ones that didn't select us or weren't happy. That's how you improve and do better next time. We went with a better unit for a cheaper price at Air Experts.

Hi, My name is Eddie Blanchard. I am the owner and general manager of 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning. I truly apprechiate you giving us an opportunity to provide an estimate for replacing your system. Although you didn't decide to use my company I hope that your system works well and you remain happy with how your system opperates in the future. I am a little troubled that there was such a difference in what was priced to you you, because the higher seer systems are so reliant on proper air flow to work correctly. I was suprised to see that such a system was installed without any serious modifications to your duct system. I would highly recommend that you have your new system audited in order to validate that it is working right. No system that is installed can opperate at the systems listed efficiency. A 16 SEER system can easily have a 25 % loss in efficiency and go unoticed. Most every client that we have dealt with over the last couple of years wouldn't think of buying such an expensive appliance without having it tested for performance. Infact in California just as it will be in NC it is a law that all systems are tested for capacity and efficiency before a job passes inspection. When this is cut out of the processs of installing a heating and cooling system it will most definantly seem to cost more in the beginning. We oftin times will factor additional necessary items into out price estimate that others don't in order to make sure we come close to the engineering specifications. Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

Jeff was nice and provided a great presentation but after that, everything went down hill. Long story short. It took 72 degrees four trips to get my unit to work correctly. Within those four trips, I ask one tech how to use the thermastat and he said he did not know but he wife does, he was being serious, . The system was blowing cool air in Jan. and everytime techs came out to fix it, they would talk bad about the other techs that had worked/serviced it. The techs would have to drive from sandford becasue there is no branch or technicians that are located in the Raleigh/Cary area, which was confirmed by a technician . My wife and I were freezing for days in the house and when I ask for the $500 refund for issuses like this, I was told no becasue I did not stay in a hotel. I ended-up getting the $500 dollars after talking with the owner on the phone. I will say that the system was tested and it is running great at this time. Overall, I would not use this company again or recommend to anyone.

Hi, I am glad that your system as you have stated is working great. After I recieve your comments I pulled the fill for you installation. Our records showed that we did in fact go to your home 4 times. The first time we did find a factory component on the system that failed. As it is rare this factory part to fail we did not have it on the truck. We did have to order the part and make a return trip. As it is our policy, we we did deliver a check in the ammount of $500 for your frustration. The third trip was a curtousy inspection to see that everything was working correctly, and it was. The fourth trip was to perform the capacity and performance audit (Results: 98% Capacity and 98% Efficiency Audit). I must say that I was completely confused that we got such a negative review when the system came within 2% of being a perfectly installed system. the only way we could have gotten better is if the system was installed in a laboratory without ductwork. The second comment stated that we were sending technicians from Sanford. Our corporate office is in Apex NC off of Apex Peakway. We have many technicians located in the Wake county area. In our confussion we reached out to you to see what more we could have done and to find out why we had such a bad review. Your reply was if you want me to change the review you can pay off my system. As you know we are willing to do what ever it takes to make you happy but unfortunately we will not be able to pay off your system. If there is anything more we can do please feel free to contact me personally.

I am a new homeowner that was looking to have my HVAC units serviced in my home. They dispatched Don Capps, and before his arrival, I received an email with his picture and a link to his profile showing details about him and his background. Once he arrived, Don was very polite and well-spoken, and was right to work. He performed a full evaluation of the units and made recommendations for my home that I had not even thought of and were not attempts for him to upsell me, as some of his recommendations were items that 72 Degrees does not sell. In addition, he identified a few potentially critical issues that I did need to address. Regardless, Don did a phenomenal job not only explaining what he found, but also showing me what he found and explaining what the long term effects could be on the equipment. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the level of service I received from 72 Degrees, and will continue to recommend them to everyone I know. Thanks Don!

Fine he did a Tune up. He talked me into a $250 part that is supposed to extend the life of my HVAC System. He also convinced me that we had too much coolant. I talked to my dad and he wasn't sure that was a Problem but our system has worked fine for a year now, so I guess we didn't need that extra coolant?

Our old AC died, we called 72 Degrees and a very professional technician came out and gave us the bad news that it was time for a new unit. He got in touch with their sales team and made an appointment for us. A very nice salesmen, named, Mike Sell came out and sat down with us and took measurements for a heat load calculation to size a new unit. He then gave us a quote which we found reasonable (of course replacing a large AC unit isn't cheap). They then came out within a day or two and replaced the whole unit. The new unit is VERY quiet and maintains temperature very well. The first power bill did seem to show an improvement in our energy use as well. Overall we are pleased, we had had service calls from 72 degrees that we felt were very professional in the past and now we have used them to replace our AC unit. We have found them to be professional and price competitive and we are happy with our new unit. If you need to buy a new AC unit call them and ask for Mike Sell to come out, you will not be disappointed.

The first technician suggested that a major part of the system was breaking down and would need to be replaced very soon. However, the company automatically scheduled a second opinion from a more senior technician who determined that the system would be fine for at least a few more seasons without the replacement--quite a relief! I have always trusted the opinion of the veteran HVAC technicians at 72 Degrees and the fact that they caught a potentially useless replacement was reassuring and saved me the time and trouble of getting a second opinion elsewhere. A very down-to-earth and locally run business. I'll continue to use them for this house and the next!

Hello [member name removed]; I'm disappointed to hear you were not pleased with the amount of education and information provided upon our sales call to replace your HVAC unit this summer. Our records show that our salesman was at your home for quite some time, and our reputation is strong for providing clients with lots of pricing options and details upon each service and replacement call. As mentioned above, we do price competitively and are happy to hear you found that to be the case. My apologies if you felt pressured into purchasing a system rom us due to chatting about why 72 Degrees is a trusted local company to do business with. We do take pride in ensuring all technicians are highly trained, professional and courteous, and unlike other competitors double check each service call and installment by senior technicians to ensure each customer's job is done right the firs time, and that each customer is satisfied. If this conversation made you feel uncomfortable or pressured, I again am sorry. Please don't hesitate to give us a call should your new system have any issues in the future. I would love an opportunity to win your business back again, and show you why our company is highly respected throughout the Triangle. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

Dear [member name removed]: I'm happy to read this positive rating on Angie's List despite your feelings of a hard sell on our service contract during the call. It's great to hear you found our serviceman to be prompt and professional. As you saw with the other HVAC company that came to work in your home, it is customary to be encouraged to sign a service contract as this can save you a lot of money on needed repairs in the future. That said, I apologize you felt our employee was a bit pushy. If you would like to speak to me personally about the advantages of a contract in the future, please don't hesitate to call our office and ask to speak with me directly. We had a wonderful experience with 72 Degrees from the the first moment we spoke with them! Our old HVAC quit working in the hottest part of the summer and it cost to much to repair so we made the decision to have it replaced. When they came to give us an estimate, they came rolling up here with 2 window units to use whether we chose their company or not! Ahhh relieve! This was Wednesday afternoon and by Friday we had a whole new unit in place. We ended up replacing 2 units, since the upstairs was also 14 years old and being repaired every year. Yes expensive but not because of 72 Degress! They went above and beyond and they are highly trained and qualified. We have learned so much from them with buying and taking care of our system. Glad we found them!!

HVAC specialist was enthusiastic, spent a lot of time (and talked a lot), but came to no conclusions about cause or remedial ideas. Said he would take the photos back to office and discuss his observations with colleagues -- and get back with us next day. Despite several follow-up phone-calls to the company, no-one got back with us within two weeks of this first visit. When I called again, yesterday (August 14), apologies were given and the same promises made -- this time, that the service manager, himself, would definitely be at our house at 9:00 a.m., this morning (August 15). At 11:30 a.m., a service technician, out on call, phoned to say that he'd just seen that HE (not the service manager) was supposed to have been at our house at 9:00 a.m., but that he had not been told about this earlier in the day! He was extremely apologetic. However, our time is also valuable, and I called the main office, told them to please cancel this job and return our unexpected $79 visitation fee (that we had not been informed about to begin with), but about which we did not complain. We have had four other highly-rated HVAC specialists along to assess our problem, and all have responded, immediately -- and followed-up with possible (but different) solutions -- AND NONE ASKED FOR A SERVICE-FEE!? We are really very disappointed that the highest-rated HVAC company on Angie's List turned out to be so disappointingly lax in following through with their assessment of our problems and with a possible solution -- as anticipated, following the initial visit. In the meantime, another highly-rated (by yourselves and others) HVAC company will probably get the contract. This other company has been extremely attentive and detail-oriented, and I believe that that their assessment and remedial solutions seem to be thoughtful and accurate -- and will, indeed, solve our HVAC problems.
Description of Work: Assessed fungal/bacterial growth that is scarring the walls of a room, above (only) two of the three HVAC registers. Assessed condition of our 2006 Lennox HVAC system in crawl-space, and took numerous photos (with cell-phone camera) of the external ducting, plus several of the interior of the main trunk-ducting close to furnace. Those photos showed evidence of fungal-growth inside the box-sections and around the coils.

Dear [member name removed]: We appreciate the time you took to post about your experience here on Angie's List. Our schedule was fully booked the day we came to your home to service the system due to many emergency calls, though that is no excuse for a hastened job. I want to personally apologize for the caps being left off after your tune-up. I can assure you that when we returned the lead technician ensured your service was thoroughly completed as expected. We've had an A/C tune-up performed previously by 72 Degrees and had a good experience. This one wasn't quite to our expectations. The estimator called to let us know that he would be 30 late. This honestly didn't bother me too much because traffic happen in the Triangle and at least he called. Once he was here he seemed nice enough but our interaction wasn't as good as a couple other companies we worked with. He also recommended a few upgrades that seemed a little unnecessary. One in particular was replacing the metal mixing box because it had condensation on the outside. The other companies did not think it was anything to worry about and a friend who's an A/C installer in another part of the state said every house in NC is going to have condensation on that box. Ultimately, even without replacing the box, 72 Degrees was significantly more expensive for the same type of work than our other 2 quotes.

Hello [member name removed]: I understand that our technician visited your home on May 14th, and found that it was 3 pounds low on Freon. We simply refilled the system that day and advised you to meet with a Project Manager to discuss replacement as it was 14 years old. The mixing box we suggested you replace if not ready to invest in a new system, is where duct work is ran from the outdoor unit to a metal box, and 99% of the time these boxes have insulation on the inside. Some units have a moisture barrier, but in our experience most do not due to incomplete quality installations. When the insulation in the mixing box becomes wet it can cause biological growth and contaminate the duct work, which is why we recommended it be replaced. We took pictures of your system's condition so you could see the a true need for replacement. You were experiencing moisture due to an air flow issue, and when the unit ran low on coolant, it froze up thawed out, and formed condensation inside this box. If the box was properly installed, and tied into a unit that was properly installed and regularly maintenanced this could have been avoided. Unfortunately NC is a humid state, and often when condensation pumps are installed they do not effect desired areas of one's duct work. That said, we'd love to have an opportunity to visit the home again and earn your trust and business once more. Please feel free to call and ask for me personally to further discuss viable options to ensure your comfort in this future major purchase. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner and GM of 72 Degrees

They were very professional and checked the unit inside and out. They suggested service but were not pushy at all. I felt they did a great job in looking toward concerns I might have in the near and distant future.

The price for the twice yearly tune-up was more than double what it would have been for one tune-up. They came for my second tune-up in the middle of summer when it was broiling hot instead of in the spring when their business would be slower. I simply wanted a tune-up every spring and every fall and a provider to call for repairs. I have never been contacted by the provider for any further contracts, so I no longer have a company to service my equipment.
Description of Work: Came to do special deal on tune-up and upgraded me to twice yearly tune-ups.

Dear [member name removed]: You are correct in stating below that the price for your twice yearly tune-up is double what it would be for one tune-up, but our set price for this service matches other area HVAC competitors. Our recoreds indicate we first came to your home in November 2011 to repair your system, and the $538 included replacement of two paerts (a capacitor and contractor) along with the bi-annual service agreement. We came to your home a second time six months later, in the middle of summer, because we time the second yearly tune-up six months after the first. Yes, ideally customers should have their systems cleaned in the spring and fall as the seasons change, but since your first cleaning occurred in November, we had to wait six months to come again. It is disappointing to hear you no longer have a regular HVAC service provider, and we'd love the chance to win your business back again. Please don't hesitate to call our office and talk with me about any past issues you've had so we can work together to ensure you're 100% satisfied in the future. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

They were not the least expensive of the bids that I had gotten but I felt the most confident about the quality of their work. They were very good about explaining what they did and their promptness in getting the system installed. The system is still functioning good.
Description of Work: I used 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning for installation of heating and air conditioning system.

The repairman was here for about two hours, one hour fixing my system the rest of the time selling me on their various repair and maintenance systems. I hope his technical work is half as good as his salesmanship.

Dear [member name removed], Thank you for posting your review on Angie's List. We were pleased to quickly resolve your HVAC issues last month, and look forward to working with you again in the future. As your repairs were costly, our serviceman took time to suggest that you sign up for a monthly maintenance plan. This could save you lots of money on the older system in the future, and ensure it works as efficiently as possible to keep your family comfortable throughout the year. Please let us know if any further issues arise as we are grateful for your business. In Comfort, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees
