SmartHouse Heating & Cooling

Unlike other HVAC companies we've had in the past Rob was more intent on inspecting our system. Others tended to find a reason to replace this and that, at a price, but seemed the replacements were for their benefit, more than our needs. This gives us confidence in the ethical standards of SmartHouse and their field representatives. From the very purchase of our system some 10 years ago, the contractor found it necessary each season to 'recharge' the refrigerant [at our cost!]. Rob did not find a problem with the coolant levels... and we've not had the system checked in some time, therein raising the question, who needed what? My thanks to Rob and to SmartHouse.

It went fine until he informed me that my A/C unit capacitor was operating out of specs, and a new one would cost me over $200.00. I informed him to re-install the capacitor and I would handle that problem at a later date. After continuing his diagnostic work on my A/C unit, he informed me that I was low on freon, and a freon recharge would cost me over $100.00. I informed the technician to "Forget" about the freon as well. If I remember correctly, the last HVAC company that I had an annual contract with, charge me approximately $169.00 to check my furnace and A/C unit, and I was never charged an additional fee to top off my A/C unit's freon if it needed a recharge. So how can one company charge $169.00 to inspect the operation of a furnace and A/C unit annually, and that service includes topping off the A/C unit's freon ( if needed ), and another company charge "OVER $100.00" just to top off your freon??? I most certainly would not use this company again.

I never contacted the company nor scheduled anything. I misunderstood the big deal and do not have a need for the service.

It went well. He made a few suggestions - like replacing the whole heating system - that would cost us more money. He came out 2x - once for the A/C and once for the heating system.

He was very professional and did not charge us for replacing the wire. He arrived promptly and everything was finished in less than an hour.

Joe arrived promptly and was very professional and courteous. He was very informative and went all over, giving ideas and suggestions, writing notes. We did not feel pushed to buy anything, and would use them when the time comes that we can afford to fix the many things that were needed. A detailed list of suggestions, in order of importance, was sent to us soon after, in the mail.

This is the first time the kitchen has been comfortable in 5 years- since our remodel! Bedrooms have their own zone- so they can be at optimal sleeping temperature. Professional service. Would use them again - but they did such a good job I don't think I'll need to.

WOW! Talk about value for your dollar! SmartHouse was super from the moment the office staff contacted me through the actions of the energy investigator who came to my home and finally to the DETAILED energy report I received promptly from them after the evaluation. My old home is very drafty; I always thought I just needed to bite the bullet and put in new windows. And several window salesmen have happily told me that is what I should do. But the SmartHouse review actually collected the data like a science experiment and then gave me a comprehensive plan for how to improve the energy flow in the home throughout the upstairs, main floor and very cold basement. They used state of the art equipment, thermal carmera imaging and several other exotic looking instruments. And the gentleman who did the work actually tried to climb into a section of an upper attic that we've never even opened in the 20 years we've lived here. That's what I mean by comprehensive! He had to unscrew bolts, remove covers and replace all exactly as he found it in order to see what kind of very old insulation we had in this space. The report I have now can be used to do a little at a time to fix the drafty situation. There was no pressure to buy immediately, but they are ready to help me solve this problem when I'm ready. I really liked the professionalism from start to finish of this group.

SmartHouse (formerly Home Green Home) came out and checked everything out on my furnace. It was making a weird noise and they said it was going to cost $600 to $800 to repair. So I asked them how much a new furnace would cost, and that's what I did, I bought a new high-efficiency furnace and thermostat and a whole house humidifier. It is much more efficient than my older one. It's wonderful. It's very gentle heat and I'm very pleased with it. They came out soon after I purchased the Big Deal. I've used them before. They've done an energy audit for our home and put in new insulation. They seemed very knowledgeable and answered all questions and gave lots of information. I didn't feel like I was under any pressure. He gave me all the information to choose from and let me decide. He talked about the rebates and discussed their financing. When he left, he cleaned up after himself and it looked like he even scrubbed the floor. He was very professional.

He called to let me know he was on his way and at what time he anticipated being at my home. It was slightly before our scheduled appointment which was fine. I didn't have to wait at all. He got right to work, worked quickly and explained what he found. He gave me some cost-cutting options which was appreciated. Saved me some money by not putting in my new filter because the one that was in the furnace wasn't that dirty. I would hire him again!

He identified some additional issues with my very old furnace. The problems he predicted with the igniter did end up occurring a couple months later.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The experience was fine. It was fairly expensive. He gave us his recommendations and sent his recommendations in the mail. I did pay additional because I had them come back out to do more work. They were very courteous and came on time. He was very knowledgeable and professional. They had a good price. They did an excellent job. I am going to use them again to do an energy audit of my house.

We loved them. They were very professional, came on time, and we feel that they did a thorough analysis of our home. We felt that our home was better off than we thought as far as insulation and what not. They made recommendations for us, and they broke down each item by price, so that we could fix a little bit at a time. I also liked that they said this you can do this your self, and that we would save money by doing some things our self. They were well worth the money.

The service was very good. I would use them again they were professional, timely, and competent.

Brad arrived promptly Wednesday, considering the weather. Checked all component parts, cleaned the unit inside and out. Replaced two parts. But especially, attended to the humidifier which was clogged and not functioning. In this weather, it was an essential. Brad was more informative than my previous technicians, and that lends a sense of comfort in his abilities and concerns. Since we opted to take the annual contract, we feel our system and our well-being will be well served.

The man who came to my house was very professional and seemed pretty smart as well. He went room to room with some gadgets and checked stuff out. He later mailed me several proposals, all quite expensive, to make my house more energy efficient. The down side is huge. He did not go into the attic; he could have, and though it's not easy to get in there, he should have. Isn't the attic a key factor in home thermals? This is a one-hundred year old house with most likely no insulation in the outside walls--he could have determined whether I could have insulation blown down from the attic. The bedroom closets are all on outside walls and just bleed cold--he could have addressed that issue as well. In the end, his proposals seemed kind of "cookie cutter" solutions and not really specific to my needs.

Their report findings were professional. I appreciated knowing the different options to improve the energy within my home. Thank you!

Excellent in consultation and coordination of the insulation application.

Very nice and seemed knowledgeable and easy to work with. The installer was a great guy, but I have felt no change in the temperature of the house nor utility usage so wonder if it really was a waste of $. Understanding this has been colder than usual winder, I felt no difference even on the warmer days/nights.

They just basically did the tune up. I was satisfied with everything.

Bought a angie's list coupon for a furnace tuneup. Did good work, and answered all my questions.

It was pretty good. He did it on time and everything went as what the promotion said it was. The work turned out pretty good.
