Called on a Friday, and John Mirelli came out and left an estimate for us on the next day, a Saturday. Work was done approximately two weeks later. The two man crew worked all day on what was a very nasty looking brick retaining wall that had obviously been long neglected. The results were beyond our expectations, especially for the reasonable price (I got four bids). I should mention also that the men cleaned up the area thoroughly after finishing. I had used another tuckpointer for some other brick work before I discovered Angie's List, and their work does not compare to Mirelli's. Mirelli's is supposed to come back to put a sealant on. If this goes well, then I can say it has been an A+ experience with this company.

I called and asked for a quote on tuckpointing part of the wall and the whole wall. Mirelli provided a written quote within a few days. Their quote was significantly lower than the other two high rated companies on Angie's List. I originally accepted the quote for the partial wall and sent the signed quote. They did not give me a hard date but said that it would be about two weeks (weather dependent). About a week later i decided I really needed the whole wall tuckpointed so I called to change the job. They said no problem and that it would not impact my place in the schedule. They called a few days later and said they could come out the next day. They arrived promptly at 7:30 AM, worked hard all day with a crew of 4 and finished the wall in one day. About a week later I called to ask them to pick up their yard sign. Mr. Mirelli came by later and inspected the work. He hooked up a hose to wash down the wall because he said it looked a little dusty still. They did a great job and we will use them for the rest of the house when it becomes necessary.

It went well. We asked for a bid and it was done promptly. Mirelli was the second lowest of the five bids we got for the work. We'd used them before for spot tuckpointing on our front porch so we felt comfortable having them do tuckpointing again. Once we accepted the bid they promptly showed up and did the work in one day. No problems at all. The workers were all friendly and polite. Mirelli was great.

It didn't. It became obvious that they weren't interested in the minor job that I wanted to have done since they didn't show up or call and then sent me a quote to perform work on a space that no one from the company had seen.

Skimcoating a firebox does not require someone to come look at it, since fireboxes are typically the same. We sent a proposal to you, but you never signed to accept it and send it back to us, so we didn't know if you decided to do it or not. We wouldn't schedule a job until the signed acceptance of the proposal was received. Sorry for the missed opportunity.

Mr. Mirelli came on the appointed date and time, discussed what needed to be done, wrote a bid. He suggested that whoever I contracted with, I should be sure they had insurance. I signed the contract on the spot. He told me the date he could start. The job was done quite professionally. The large window was over the driveway and had to be done with a scaffold. After the window was finished, the concrete crew (2 men) came in and finished the work on the porch and cracked stones. They also repaired a broken corner of a concrete step.
Description of Work: Some of the morter in my five foot square glass block window was falling out, and the rocks over what used to be the coal shoot (currently glass block window) in a stone foundation porch was falling out. This is a 63 year old house. Some of the stones in the porch foundation were stress cracked also. He redid the tuck pointing in the large glass block window, replaced the rusted lintel over the porch glass block window, filled in the space between the window and porch floor, repaired the cracks in the stone foundation. It was completed in the quoted time, everything cleaned up and looks great.

We have a 100 year-old house that needed tuckpointing. John Mirelli, the owner, came out and gave me an estimate. He answered all my questions, and took the time to explain the bid to me. Their bid was not the cheapest bid but it was also not the highest of the four bids we took. After several less than positive experiences with contractors we decided to go with Mirelli because of all the positive feedback I was reading about them on Angie's List. They did a great job and the finished tuckpointing looks great. They arrived exactly on time every morning and attacked the job with 7-8 people each day they worked. They completed the entire job, two complete sides our house, in a week. They cleaned up everyday after they were finished and the workers were always very polite. Mirelli Tuckpointing is by far the most professional and most satisfying experience I've ever had with a contractor. I would hire them again with any hesitation.

I cannot think of enough nice things to say about Mirelli. I sent an email and called and spoke to someone named Cindy, who was unfailingly nice and helpful. Mr. Mirelli came out to look at the problem a day or two later, we were out, and he left a bid in the mailbox for us. We returned the signed contract and in a week I asked Cindy if we could schedule a date. She suggested a date a week later, then called back and asked if they could do the work tomorrow (today.) I was, of course, thrilled. They sent two men, Josh and Jimmy (I can't remember their last names) who were incredibly nice, polite and efficient...they did an EXCELLENT and complete job without any supervision from me. They explained the mortar would take time to cure, but even with it being a slightly different color than the original mortar, the work still looks about 100 times better than it did before. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone and would hire them again in a nanosecond.
Description of Work: Our house had settled and we had Permajack pier the foundation a few years ago. A zig zag crack in the mortar of the brick facing on our home was closed, but still visible. A handyman filled in the crack with silicone and mortar that did not match, smearing mortar on the brick and in general making a mess of the job. I asked Mirelli to clean and fix the problem with matching mortar.

I called Mirelli Tuckpointing on about the 8th or 9th of July 2009. He came on the 10th and gave me an estimate for the work. I signed the proposal the same day because he seemed to know exactly what to do and how to do it. He gave me an approximate start date of the first of the week of July 20. I called late the week before to get a better approximate date because I was going on vacation on the 28th. He said rain had put him a little behind and he would be here on Thursday the 23rd. At 8:00 am Thursday morning I looked out and saw his crew setting up in my driveway. Shortly thereafter I left and when I returned the work was finished and looked great. I have not received an invoice yet.
Description of Work: Removed the old grout from a 5 ft by 5 ft glass block window and re-tuckpointed it. Removed broken masonry from between the porch floor and a2 ft. glass block enclosure, replaced the metal reinforcement for the porch, replaced the missing masonery; repaired a broken cement step.

Our experience with Mirelli Tuckpointing was outstanding. In fact, it was one of the most painless contractor experiences we've had to date. The process began with the estimate which was put together by John MIrelli. We found him to be highly professional, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. We had originally planned to simply have our chimney tuckpointed, however he strongly advised against that given the width of the mortar joints. We were told that a complete rebuild was in order, which seemed prudent given the poor state of our chimney. After the proposal was accepted, it was a very short period of time before the project began. The workers showed up on time early in the morning on the day planned. They were courteous, glad to answer a few questions I had, and went to great pains to rebuild the chimney exactly as it was originally designed, with a flaring top. Their thoughtfulness and professionalism was evident throughout the job. For example, we had to snake an extension cord out the window to power their tools (we have no outdoor outlets), and they had the presence of mind to tell us to stuff the crack under the window with towels to keep the a/c from sucking dust into the house. Most importantly, they did a very good job of matching the old bricks with new ones from a local brickyard and were wise enough to use all new bricks (rather than mixing old and new) once it was determined that the old ones were all in pretty bad shape. The chimney was sealed up around all of the old flashing very well until our roofer could do a roof replacement and reflash the chimney. Mirelli went the extra mile by offering to come out after our roofers were done so that they could seal up around the chimney flashing. This ultimately wasn't necessary, but the offer was appreciated. Finally, the workers were thorough in cleaning up and left no mess when they were done. Based on this recent excellent experience I will be hiring Mirelli for a larger job tuckpointing my basement foundation once our finances permit.
Description of Work: Our chimney was dismantled down to the flashing and rebuilt using new, very similar brick. The chimney cap was also cleaned and re-set.

They determined that there was some problems with the roofing. They fixed the edge where I was having issues with the roof. Their bid was much higher than the other 2 companies I spoke with, but they ensured me that was because they were insured and bonded. They were willing to work with me every step of the way. They were very prompt and professional. They also provided the waterproofing the front of the house at no cost because I questioned their price.

Scheduling the estimate went very smoothly. I felt very confident in John's knowledge and professionalism so we decided to go with them even though their bid was higher than other companies. Scheduling the initial repair was also fairly easy. They came out on a Saturday to do the work. They told us that it would take 48 hours to dry and get a good idea of the color. We waited a week and still the new mortar looked black and the old looked grey. It wasn't too big of a deal, but it was something that we wanted fixed. When we called, it took multiple phone calls for them to get back with us to tell us that it would take a month before we would see the true color. After waiting a month, I called back and it still took almost a month to get it redone. (Part of this was my fault b/c we were on vacation for 10 days during this time period). The color is now much closer. And John was very nice when he came out - doing the work late on a weeknight. They did put something down to protect the carpet, but when you are using mortar on the base of the brick, I guess it must be near impossible to not have any mortar get on the carpet.
Description of Work: They came out to our home to give an estimate on repairing 2 bricks that had come loose and fallen off of the hearth. They came out and reattached the 2 bricks and added mortar to other areas that were cracking. They eventually came out a second time to redo the mortar b/c it didn't match.

Prompt in submitting a bid. When I accepted it by mail, they just showed up a few days later. It was fairly disconcerting that they didn't call to make an appointment. My house cleaner was home, but I wasn't. They cleaned up well, and they seem to have done a decent job. My general feeling is "no harm, no foul," but I can't understand why they didn't call in advance.

He was very prompt in doing the proposal but he was slow in getting out to do the work. The mortar did not match the color of the overall house mortar. They weren't very careful about my roof. When they leaned the ladder against the house, they broke the edge of one shingle. They did not have enough tarp to protect the roof. I feel like the cap is too flat to run off the water adequately. They also charged me with something that they didn't do. It was in the proposal that they would cock the flashing. After we talked about it, we came to the decision that it didn't need done, but they charged me for it anyway. I called and they took it off the bill. To me, that's a minor point compared to everything else.
Description of Work: They tore down the top four rows of bricks on the chimney and replaced them, including the cap. They also tuckpointed any cracked joints below that point to the roof line.

My overall experience with Mirelli Tuckpointing was very positive. I am a new homeowner with a limited experience working with contractors and John Mirelli was great to work with. He was professional, fair, and honest about what he said he was going to do and when. I really appreciated the attention to detail he and his company gave to the work they did and the customer service they provided. John Mirelli clearly was knowledgeable and offered practical solutions to the work I needed done, which made me feel comfortable. These standards carried over to the employees who did the work. The quality of the work was beyond my expectations and I feel good every time I look at the work they did. The price of this job and the quality of the work was a clear value for me, Mirelli was very generous. I will definitely use Mirelli again and recommend them.
Description of Work: Repaired chimney, which included replacing 20 bricks; spot pointed front porch, which required relaying stones in the steps; bumped back bricks on an inside garage wall and spot pointed the outer and inner walls of the garage; fixed three bricks on back porch; repaired side steps; and sealed the porch and west side of house at the foundation.

The company came out and did the tuck pointing but not very well. My ex-husband called the owner and told him that several places had been missed or not done well. The company owner said that my ex-husband wanted more done than contracted for and the cost would be $200. My ex-husband was willing to pay if only they would do the job correctly. He had flagged places where it had not been done. He even had another tuck pointer come out and look at the job and he said it was the worst job he had ever seen. Nothing has been resolved at this time.

He presented the estimate in two separate bids for work to be done immediately and for some to be done at a later time. The amounts were $2750 for the immediate work and $2500 for the later work. This is a 100 year old two story brick home. I agreed to start as soon as his schedule allowed with the first segment. He was very responsive in coming out for the bid, but due to communication errors, work did not begin for two months. When the workmen came out, they did an excellent job. They cleaned up their work site. The work was done efficiently and satisfactorily. I was pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: Mr. Mirelli did an estimate for me for basement repair. At my request he also did an estimate for spot repair on my half of the townhome on the exterior. He patched holes in the basement wall and did spot tuckpointing on the front and back of the house.
