Overall, this company did an excellent job on the tuckpointing. The workers were prompt, courteous and got the job done within a reasonable amount of time. Appliances moved (i.e., washer, dryer) were moved back into their position. They asked me to check their work and when I asked them to move some shelves back against the wall, they did so. My only objection was that appliances and items on a table were not covered and ended up with a layer of dust from the tuckpointing. Also, dust got into my furnace and I had to have the heating company come out to vacuum the furnace out as it was now making a grinding noise when the furnace came on. Would highly recommend this company, but would recommend to future homeowners that they have items (furniture, appliances, etc.) be covered.

Our apologies about the dust! When raking out mortar joints it can be abundant. It can be inconvenient, but there is no way around creating the dust when removing old mortar, especially when working indoors (there's no where for it to go). We have not had a situation arise where enough dust entered the furnace to create a problem, but in the future we will consider tarping it off. We normally do not move shelving or appliances, but for this job we did to get it completed in a timely manner. Again we apologize, thank you for being so tolerant of the dust.

John Mirelli came and gave us an estimate as we requested. We decided to let his company do the work and signed a contract. We received a phone call from the office letting us know when the work would begin. The crew arrived at the specified time and worked a couple days until the job was finished. They returned a month later, as explained, to take care of the waterproofing. We didn't pay anything until the job was completely finished. We received a discount because we subscribe to Angie's List. The crew did a good job of cleaning up when they were finished.
Description of Work: Mirelli did extensive tuckpointing and waterproofing on our 2-story brick residence.

We were very pleased with our experience with Mirelli. They were very professional. The bid request was completed quickly and came in very competitively with the other bids we obtained. Once we settled with the company, we asked John to come out again and we went over each wall to establish expectations. On the work day, the 9-man crew was there promptly at 8am and they worked until 4-5pm. They came back the following week to finish up some minor work on a chimney. After we inspected the work, we noticed a few missed spots and unstained bricks which did not surprise us since it was such a large job. After a quick call, they had someone out on the next workable day for an hour or two and tied up the loose ends. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a tuck pointer.
Description of Work: We had extensive tuck pointing done on all external walls. They replaced badly damaged bricks and repaired recoverable spalling bricks with an epoxy which was stained to an acceptable brick color.

John Mirelli contacted me directly after I had phoned and came to give an estimate very soon after the initial contact. Once the contract was signed the work was scheduled soon after. I found John Mirelli to be very professional and the overall experience was very positive.
Description of Work: Our front porch, landing and walkway are stone with mortar. The mortar had cracked and loosened in several places, including at the base of the two steps up to porch and front entry. In addition sections of the walkway had been previously repaired with caulking which had loosened. The repairs were made using mortar that closely matches what is already there. In addition the caulking was replaced and several areas were covered with sand to better match. The work done was excellent and the walkway looks great.

Called Mirelli Tuckpointing and requested an estimate for spot tuckpointing. I received a timely call back that was very friendly and professional. I was satisfied with the estimate and decided to move forward. Crew of 3 or 4 arrived early in the morning to perform spot tuckpointing. Crew was also very friendly and professional. Work took a good part of one day to complete. They did a good job of cleaning up. My only compliant is regarding the quality of the work performed. Overall the quality was ok, but there were a few items that I was disappointed on.. 1. Color match of the mortar used for spot tuckpointing. There is a very distinct and noticeable difference in the existing mortar and what was used to spot tuckpoint. I understand and expected to see some differences but was disappointed how much the existing and new mortar differ in color. 2. Bricks nicked when grinding. There were a handful of bricks that were nicked when the crew was performing the grinding. Again I understand this will happen some but was disappointed with how a couple areas look because of some nicks. 3. Shutter around front window nicked when grinding. One of my shutters in the front was also nicked when grinding. They used touch up paint to cover up nick but it was something that I noticed on my own and wasn't pointed out to me when the job was complete.

We were not aware that you were unhappy with the color match since you called and gave us such great compliments. The color will fade out and cure as it weathers and is exposed to sunlight. It can be challenging to match mortar that is 80 or so years old (if the color matches when the job is finished, it will fade out to be too light as it weathers). If there is still a concern come spring, after it has had a chance to weather and fade out, we can come reevaluate the work. Just give us a call and we will gladly return!

I got several bids for spot tuckpointing all over the house. The estimates were all within a couple hundred dollars. Some companies charged more for one wall than another, but all total for the entire house was roughly the same. Mirelli was cheapest for the front porch so they got the bid. The bidding was back in January and I called in August to see if they would honor the contract for only tuckpointing the front porch. After coming back to my house and surveying the front porch, he decided they would honor the contract. I was told it would be perhaps up to two weeks before they could get to my porch. Mirelli called me at work a few days later and said they had time that afternoon to get the job done. They were finished and gone before i got home. The job was quality and the cleanup was excellent. There was dust from the mortar grinding but i hardly found any chunks of mortar laying on the ground. They did a good job matching the pigment of the surrounding mortar.
Description of Work: Spot tuckpointing was performed on all the areas of my front porch with bad mortar. Probably 20% of the mortar needed replacement.

The owner John Mirelli replied quickly to an e-mail query. The estimate was on the high side, but there are some things you don't want to risk going cheap on. This includes old chimneys. John's men showed up when they were supposed to. They worked efficiently and neatly. Their truck was clearly labeled and they had all the tools and supplies the job called for. John swung by to check on their work one of the days they were on the job. After they were finished, it seemed to me the protective coating on the chimney caps was too thin--the old concrete was showing through in places. John came right out--on a Saturday!--and looked at them. He gave them another coating, no extra charge or haggling to put up with. Two people who know the building trades--a contractor and a roofer--looked at the chimneys afterward and agreed that the work had been done well. It is probably possible to get lower bids from other firms. But I am not sorry to have paid a little more to get a finished product that I can feel good about going into the future.

I got a call on a Sunday afternoon asking me if it would be OK for the Mirelli guys to come out the next morning, I agreed to it and the crew came at 8:00. They were clean, quiet, likeable and cooperative. They finished in one day, and cleaned things up nicely. I think they're terrific. CK
Description of Work: We have an old house with a very steeply pitch slate roof; the chiminey is very hard to get to, because of the way in which roof butts up to it. I had one company that simply would not bid on the job and another whose bid was double Mirelli's.

John Mirelli was prompt in coming out to do the bid. The bid was detailed and clear. They worked around my schedule to do the work on a day that I would be home. Cindy in their office was very responsive and answered all my questions. They arrived on time, moved all our deck furniture out of their way, hosed off the deck to remove the chimney dust and replaced the furniture. The finished work blended nicely with the existing brick and mortar. They returned within 4 weeks to seal the chimney. They adjusted that appointment around a window washer I had already coming on the first date.
Description of Work: I called Mirelli in April for a bid to repair our chimney tuckpointing and replace some brick. John Mirelli came out within a few days of my call and gave a very detailed bid. We selected them after obtaining other bids that came in higher and they were well rated on Angie's list. They replaced approx. 30 bricks in our chimney and a significant amount of mortar work was done. They came back about 4 weeks later to seal the area they worked on.

Team of 5 showed up at 8 am on a Tuesday and began work outside, grinding mortar. They worked entire day, taking lunch break onsite. Very dusty, dirty work, but they cleaned before they left for the evening, including neighbor's property. Worked every day that week, finishing on Friday afternoon with a team of 3, cleaning as they worked. Gracious, friendly and very hard-working. Never left the site. Work looked great to me, and everything looked as clean as possible at conclusion. Extraordinary company. I used them before two years ago, and will always use them in the future. Comparable bid for same work was $2000 higher. Highest recommendation.

Went very well. Found them using Angie's List, called them for estimate (along with a couple others), received quotes and compared. John was very anxious to please. He was kind enough to give me a couple different estimates as what I wanted changed over time. I was happy with the work done. The only issued that bothered me a little after the job.was noticing that some of the bricks that were replaced did not seem to be put in straight. I did not present this issue to John. If I had, I am sure he would have responded to my concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend Mirelli.

We left a message requesting a quote and hadn't heard back for a few days. After getting two other estimates arranged, we decided to try Mirelli's again, and the woman was apologetic about not getting our message. Mr. Mirelli came over and had our estimate the following day. They told us they would not be able to start for two weeks but started within a few days of receiving the signed contract. We initially considered just spot tuck pointing one wall but Mr. Mirelli explained that due to the interior water damage and condition of the wall, the entire side should be done. He even offered to do the extra spot tuck pointing on the other side of the house and not charge beyond the estimate on the one wall. We were impressed and appreciative. A team of approximately seven men came in three trucks and had ladders up first thing in the morning. They were very courteous when asking to use indoor electricity, checking with our neighbor so they could stand on his roof to better reach our wall, and conscience about cleaning up each of the two days it took to do the work. Mirelli's team even contacted Ameren UE when they discovered problems with our outdoor connections. Ameren UE was there and did the repair thanks to Mirelli's call. I called their office the afternoon of the 2nd day of work to ask if they were done and if I needed to leave work early to check the work and pay. The woman who answers the phone stated that the men who do the work do not handle payments and we would receive an invoice. We agreed to forgo the Angie's list 5% coupon in exchange for the extra work they did. It was a significant savings and a lot of extra work for the money. The team even repaired a place on our roof and replaced capping tiles. We were highly impressed by the service and quality of work.
