wonderful job by Do Right Builders. they did professional work and went the extra mile for us during the process. we started in the end of January and with covid 19 hitting, they continued to work with us by staying in the basement with little direct contact.

I don't know if I can succinctly capture how poorly Do Right did on our project, but I'll try: - lack of professionalism (gave our house keys to OTHER companies!, brought small children to our house during work hours) - lack of cleanliness (backyard and worksite were trashed the entire time work was being done, we had to request tarps etc were placed before sanding - which should be standard) - lack of attentiveness (things had to be done and redone because silly mistakes were made like miscalculations, putting grates in the middle of the floor and wrong materials used) - lack of skill of trade (flooring had to be relaid, plumbing had to be redone, now having trouble with electric in that space) - lack of accountability (there was always a reason for why projects weren't tracking or done - issues with the business and people management, weather related issues. The work day started at 10 or 11 and ended at 3 every day with an hour long lunch) - lack of communication (we weren't given a project timeline until mid-way through the project when we demanded it, owner only reached out to get paid, the owner led by threat and not by checking work in fact the owner of the company came to the site twice to get the first check and to get the last --- all other times he sent his young grandson to check the work of his contractors) I wouldn't trust do right with installing a light fixture. It was the worst decision as home owners we have made.

This is an Independence, MO. company and I'm in Shawnee, KS. This is a significant commute for this small business, so they used a subcontractor for the work. The subcontractor was a very nice guy and did as good a job as he could, but he had zero support from Do-Right. I wrote Mike several times concerning things he could do to improve the way the installation was handled. He choose not to respond to any of my e-mails. I was not critical of him, but pointed out where they could have done a much better job. Here are a couple of examples- 1. They delivered the vanity when the installer wasn't present. When he needed to install the vanity into the bathroom, I had to help him install it. -- Not my job. 2. They did not provide any detail clean up work. Where caulk was on the shower walls, I ended up removing it. I mentioned this to Mike. 3. I also mentioned to Mike that the installer couldn't possibly have installed the shower walls without assistance, they provided none, so I helped the installer. 4. I also ended up installing the light fixtures after the installer did the wiring. I've document all of my recommendations and concerns, which were provided to Mike. There were several other issues, but the bottom line is that they didn't want to travel that far from their home base. I would strongly recommend that if you're located on the Kansas side (Shawnee, Lenexa, Bonner, Leavenworth, etc.) to give using them some serious thought.

We signed a contract approximately one month before work was scheduled to begin. The first day of work, no one showed up. After calling the office, we were informed the supplies were not yet in (it was supposed to take only 3 weeks for the Onyx shower bed to be ready). We were told they would start demo the following day. The job was estimated to take 2 weeks, it was almost 4! We were never sure if workers would be there first thing in the day, or show up mid- afternoon. Many days there was only a few hours work done. When asked to pick tile for the job, we were not given guidelines, and had to make another trip to the tile store...then another to pick grout. Faucets gave us the same type of nightmarish experience. By the time the bathroom remodel was finished the weather was so warm we could not tell the radiant flooring was not working properly. We called Do Right in September for the first time in regards to this issue. We were told Mike McCartney (owner) would call back. A week later...another call...a week after that...and so on...no call from the owner. One of the workmen on the job finally came by to assess the root to the problem. We were told it was fixed. It wasn't. The calling started over... Mike never talked to us again after collecting the final payment for the job. Finally, yesterday, on the second trip out, the electrician (neither of the original workers were electricians) fixed the issue. That's 6 months after the initial complaint. We were told the workers would be Do Right employees. The workers we had on the job had never worked with Do Right before, and did not seem to be his employees, but a couple of guys found to do our job. Over a year after signing the contract, and having to resort to hiring an attorney, OUR JOB IS FINALLY FINISHED!!!

Kitchen/laundry remodel Just a very sloppy, learn on-the-job, family-run company. Hired my own painter and wood floor installer after I saw what poor work they were doing. Constantly had to watch and ck their work - sloppy, messy - left huge piles of debris on deck for weeks, until I made them remove it. But, I had to sort through it all to find items that were to be saved! No daily clean-up, whole house was full of dust and wallboard powder. Had to monitor everything and make them redo many things. The wall tile was installed by someone learning on the job, but he had no one to teach him. Had to have him rip out a corner section and redo it as the cut tiles didn't match. They removed and tossed some cedar deck boards and later replaced them with treated (greenish) pine boards and did not offset to match the of the rest of deck. I made them 'do it right' as their name claims! Thankfully they used subs for electrical, plumbing and rough-in. I wouldn't let them install the appliances as they are built-in and I wanted it done right the first time. Never knew what days and what time they would come-constantly trying to figure that out so I could be home. Only saw the contractor when he wanted money. Nobody was there to discuss the job or problems. Tremendous lack of communication from them. Project dragged on for months-would have fired them but didn't want to start over and slow it down even more. I will say he didn't 'nickle and dime' us for every little thing- another outlet or light switch. The finished project is great, but it would NOT have come out nearly as well without constantly checking their work and making them 're-do'. Thank goodness I used a designer to guide me in this huge project. What a total disaster it would have been without her. They don't know how to do their work well or properly, how to organize their time and how to communicate with clients. They don't take pride in doing a good job, just get it done anyway they can. DO NOT HIRE 'DO RIGHT BUILDERS'. Run as fast as you can......... .
Description of Work: gut old kitchen remove laundry room walls and gut remove gazebo roof in breakfast area, put in vaulted roof and square off angled gazebo walls (they used a rough-in sub) remove cabinets in dn rm and lv rm, lower ceiling and put in fake wallboard beams in dn rm Subs he used: Plumbing, Electrical, and rough-in carpenter for roof and window changes All of them were licensed and did good work

The job took twice as long to complete as promised. No one informed us that their work week was 3 maybe 4 days a week. We called numerous times during the poject and Rona in the office was the most helpful. Since completion we have had to call Mike several times and am still waiting for the deck rails to be fixed. They have seperated at the top . The concrete ,dry wall and electrian that were subcontracted did a great job.! Excel windows has fixed several windows that were poorly installed. Mike was always on time to pick up the checks but has told us " He will get the rail fixed next week" Still waiting
Description of Work: We had a hill grated , a concrete storage unit and a sun porch on top and a deck built. The yard was also fenced and new windows put in.

Ed,sales & partner was cunning & unprofessional-sloppy contract written-deceitful about history-foundation dirt was not left as promised-lousy cleanup of splattered concrete-later was told my roof design would not work,so alternative was put on-found this was a lie so they had to put original roof on,but Mike/Ed FORGOT to tell Richard the rafters under the eaves were to be exposed-told my homes siding was not available so batt & board was put on exterior-lied to again-I demanded batts removed & matching siding installed-change order written for interior closet & ext wood steps removed from contract, but they refused to adjust price-sub hired for the deck job was pathetic, tried 4 times do get job right,I refused to let him continue, the job was completed by Richard-deck was put on without permit-debris piled up,was removed unsatisfactorily only twice-Mike,gen contractor was on sight only 3-4 times & was rude, beligerent, defensive, uncooperative, manipulative-I finally hired attnorney.
Description of Work: Foundation for 10'x20'room addition was dug & poured.Richard, the subcontractor did all the construction work:subfloor, framing, installed & trimmed 5 sets of casement windows,1 fixed window,1 pr French doors,1 other door, cut interior passthrough, installed drywall, built & shingled roof(twice),built final deck(the 5th time),installed ext batt & board and eventually the correct steel siding.Richard showed up on time every morning scheduled & put in long hours. He was pleasant to work with.Mike, general contractor said my original gabled roof with eaves would not work with pitch,so a shed roof was put on w/o eaves. It was soon replaced with my gabled roof when I found out this was not true.A cheap sub was hired to add the deck, but used inferior wood & construction, trying 4 times to get it right. Finally Richard completed the deck job.Batt & board was installed on exterior. When I found that the siding on my house WAS available(Ed said it wasn't),the batts were removed and steel siding installed.
