Totta Hardwoods

We were on a tight schedule before we moved into our new house. Mike was able to fit us in on short notice. They worked quickly and even worked on a Saturday to make sure it would be dry before our moving day. The floors look beautiful and I am so happy with the work.

He was very friendly and professional. He came with a computer and sent me the plans to my email. The additional price ended up being a little too high and it was not able to be completed in my moving time frame.

The service was under the "Big Deal" I purchased. I had a larger section of the hardwood floor refinished and I paid an additional for that. They had to move the refrigerator out on the deck which went well but when they moved it back and turned it on, the water line busted. They just didn't allow enough time for one of the water lines had frozen, so they had to fix the floor where the water line busted. They ordered the part that was needed and got the refrigerator fixed. I thought it was really nice that it didn't cost me anything.

The workers were in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Quality of work is as expected. Changed color of stain after several different stains were put on floor (later sanded off to natural wood tone before restain). The floors look much better than before but the finish has not held up to large dogs (80-90 lb golden and lab). The scratches in the poly are more noticeable with this stain as opposed to the original golden oak type stain. It is also possible that the product used was not sufficient for the type of abuse that is caused by two dogs and two toddlers.

We are finishing building a house, and the original flooring subcontractor did a poor job finishing our brand new maple floors. Even though we let the original flooring sub finish and re-finish our floors 3 times in an attempt to fix his problems, he still left dozens of sanding marks and an uneven finish. We called 4 flooring subcontractors, including Totta Hardwood Flooring to get somebody to refinish our floors and fix the problems that were left by the original flooring sub. Mike Totta arrived on time to assess our floors, and he gave us a very competitive estimate. He didn't come across as a pushy salesman, and of the four subcontractors who bid the work, Mike came across as the most professional. He clearly explained what he could do to repair the sanding defects that were left by the previous flooring subcontractor, and he said they would make sure we were happy with their work. Moreover, his crew was able to squeeze us in their schedule the following week, which was a big help to us, because we're anxious for our home to be completed, so we can move in. Ben and Tyler showed up to start work, and they sanded down an area and laid out 6 stain samples for us to choose from. Ben even applied sealer to the stain samples, so we could get the full effect of what each stain would look like on a finished floor. We appreciate their patience with us, and for laying out all of those stain samples, so we could pick the color that we liked best. Totta Hardwood Flooring refinished all of our hardwood floors on the main level, and the quality of their work is excellent. Admittedly, the stain is still a little bit too "blotchy" for our preference, but we chalk that up to the inherent nature of maple floors being a tight grained wood. But for the fact that the original flooring subcontractor convinced us that he could finish maple floors with a non-blotchy stain finish, we would have gone with a different species of wood that takes stain more evenly. Also to be fair, Totta's crew was working from a deficit to fix the previous flooring sub's mistakes. Everything being equal, we are extremely satisfied with Totta Hardwood's work, we are happy with our hardwood floors, and we will recommend them to our family and friends.

The crew of Kyle and Tyler showed up as promised at 9 am Monday. They moved furniture but had to wait on Ben to bring the trailer with supplies. We had freezing rain the day before and there was a problem getting it out. Ben also brought walnut and oak samples of flooring as promised since I was thinking of changing the great room from carpet to hardwood later on this year. They got to work with cleaning and sanding by 10:30 am. One sanded while the other picked up dust with a large shop vac. They used hand scrapers in corners. By 5 pm wood filler had been spread and sanded down. Second day: resanded some edges, rewmoved dust and applied oak stain. Stain dried about 40 minutes, then floor was moppped down to remove any particles. Sanding sealer (shellac) was applied then two coats of"WS Easy Finish" which according to the can is an polyurethand-acrylate waterborne finish. The finsh coats were applied with a microfiber roller and a pad for edges and corners. Ben Totta came to inspect before the final finish. The floor was lightly sanded and cleaned, then Ben applied the final finish coat. The job was completed and materials all removed from the house by 5:30 pm. Third day: Ben and a helper came about 4 pm to hook up appliance and move furniture. Ben supplied for free some carpeted feet for a movable kitchen island. I like to know what is being done and all the guys were patient and courteous with me while explaining what they were doing. The job was completed within the promised 3 days and I am very happy with the result. The floor is very smooth with no discernible bubbles in the finish (it had plenty before!). I felt like Mike was running a great company, and would feel comfortable with him finishing my floors, and thought he would have done a great job. I got a couple quotes for this project, and found a company that could be cheaper. I will consider them for other flooring projects.

It started out simple enough, refinish all the wood floors on both levels of the house. The entire house is wood floors dating back to 1921, except for the 3 bathrooms which have tile floors. We had a lot of furniture and household items accumulated over many years in the house. It cost a bit more to phase the work so I didn't have to empty the house and it was worth it. The real challenge came with the discovery of old termite damage and the necessity to replace part of a stair landing as well as the entire Living Room floor and subfloor. The crew was great, very helpful always eager to please and took great care with all of the furniture. They were even able to get a custom wooden eggcrate return air grill installed in the floor to replace an ugly metal one. It took a little longer than planned, due to the unplanned Living Room floor replacement, and it wasn't unreasonably dusty. In fact the crew did vacuum the floors as they pulled out. The whole house still needs a good cleaning, but given the disruption to every corner, that is not unexpected. After all the disruption, the floors look gorgeous and I look forward to many years of enjoyment. I highly recommend Mike Totta and Ronnie, the foreman on our project.

They did a great job and got the work done within our very tight time schedule. They were very responsive and did not finish the job until we were 100% satisfied. They were very professional but friendly and easy to have around the house. When our cabinet installer came he could not believe that the floors they had sanded and refinished were not new because they looked so great. They went above and beyond to lace in the old hardwood floors with the new ones. They even came back weeks later to move our refrigerator back into place when our kitchen remodel was complete. The crew that was headed by Ronnie were all great guys and very professional.

They were completely professional - everyone on the crew knew the details of our job. The dust collection was incredible - just a light surface dust. I haven't noticed any dust in the kitchen cabinets. They gave us several trial coats of stain to help us make our decision. We are really pleased with the matte finish and amazed that it dried in 3 hours. We decided to leave our quarter round in place during sanding and the touch up is minimal, as they advised. When it was time to move the fridge back, Mike helped me empty and put everything away. They even wiped the counters off for me. Terrific attention to detail and customer service. Hardwood refinishing has changed a lot in the past 10 years!

They were excellent. They did quality work. They told me in advance what they were going to do and when they were going to do it. They did it. I would use them again.

They did a great job. Have a few things that need to be addressed and am currently trying to get an appointment to get them finished.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. They did fine. I've asked them to come back and do a touch up. The workers were very respectful and I didn't have any problems with their workers. They were timely, they came, they stayed, they ate their lunch, and they were quiet. I didn't really have any problem at all with the workers. I spent way more than the Big Deal price. I think their price was average. The Angie's List Big Deal helped me a little bit. I don't think they are necessarily out of order or there are certainly not any more savings than anybody else. They don't seem to be out of line. I'm trying to be realistic because wood floors are not like artificially engineered product that's perfect so with that, you have to take into consideration when you look at a real product. Responsiveness was fine and punctuality was excellent. They were on time. I have no troubles with them at all.

The actual work took three days and I couldn't be happier with the results. There were some random stains in the wood that they were able to work with and make "disappear" into the stain and there were some places that had previously been patched that they were able to cover. The workers' timing was strange - we never had a set time. The first day, there were two workers and they didn't show up until around 3pm, I asked when they would be there the next day, so that I could plan better and they said they'd be there around 8am. One guy, who had been there the day before, was there at 8:15am and two other guys came around 9am. Another guy (the other one that had been there previously)showed up around 1:30pm to inspect the work and they all left around 5pm. The third day, it was just one guy and he was there at 8:30am until around 4pm. They were all very nice and personable, but as a woman alone in my house, I was a little bit uncomfortable with so many new/different faces. They did a fantastic job keeping the "mess" contained. I didn't notice anything that they left or damaged. Just as a planning note, they needed a 250v outlet (stove or washing machine) and left their trailer in the driveway. I didn't mind either of these things, I just didn't know about it. Also, we had this work done in Dec, which I don't recommend because it was cold, so we had no windows open and the fumes gave me a headache. I will absolutely have them come back to refinish our staircase and upstairs hallway, which are also the original flooring.

Easily the best company I have ever selected to perform work on my home. From start to finish, Mike and his crew were professional, courteous and eager to do a fantastic job. I had them refinish the hardwood floors in my kitchen and hallway as well as add hardwood floors in my dining room and study. They gave excellent advice about which shade of stain to choose and did an amazing job in replacing a deteriorating living room step with one they built themselves. Several people have already visited our home and commented on the great appeal of our new floors, and I appreciate that Mike and his hard-working and knowledgeable crew of Ben, Josh and Tyler took the time to ensure that I was completely satisfied with their finished work.

Totta refinished the hardwoods in our master bedroom, including the closets. They also painted and replaced the shoe around the base moulding. They did a great job, and even fixed our front doorknob that was put on upside down by another contractor. The color was a bit lighter than I had expected, but I believe that was due to my miscommunication with them. It has ended up being my favorite hardwood color in the entire house!

It was a great experience. Mike did a great job of explaining the process and what was involved. We did not end up choosing him to provide our service, but I was very impressed with his professionalism.

There was an issue when the floors were initially done due to the extreme cold outside and the floors drying too fast. Mike sent the crew over the next business day to re-do the job. There were a few things that had to be touched up and Mike took care of them promptly and courteously. The floors look fantastic.

We were thrilled with how the work went as well as the refinished floors, which look fantastic! I was easily able to set up a time for Mike Totta to come give us an estimate, which he provided to us immediately. Once we selected Totta we were able to schedule the work, which started right on time. Ronnie oversaw the work at our house, and he was wonderful to work with. He and Ethan did a fabulous job on our floors and cleaned up well at the end of each day. They put up plastic wherever they could in order to keep the dust contained as much as possible. They were also very helpful in assisting us in selecting our stain and finish - after sanding the floor they put down several stain and finish samples so we could see what they would look like. Ronnie made sure I was happy with all aspects of the floor when the job was done. We also really appreciated that Totta was willing to move and replace our furniture for a small fee, as another company we considered would not have done that. We were extremely happy with the work and would definitely hire Totta Hardwood Flooring again!

Although we didn't ultimately select Totta Hardwood Flooring to do our project, they were our second choice, Mike was pleasant and professional, responded very promptly to our request for a consult, and provided the bid (which was competitive) quickly.

He was a very nice guy. I plan on using him in the future for. He contacted me shortly after I purchased the deal and he accommodated to my schedule for the estimate. He’s arrived on time for the appointment.

Outstanding performance. Floor quality is far better than initial installation from 12 years ago. Ben Totta led the team, and is personable, unflappable, hard-working, and a hardwood professional. Communication with customer ensured great job. Several things merit this exceptional rating: investment in high-quality, well-maintained equipment (there was virtually no dust !!), attention to detail -- the amount of manual effort in corners, crevices, and near cabinets was immense -- and was meticulous; the tempo was well-paced - but never rushed; product quality of stains sealants, and coatings all best in class; matching the previous stain for the rest of the house may require an eye for artistry - but it's perfect; and finally I appreciated both owners Ben and Mike working Saturday morning to buff, vacuum, and apply our final floor coat. A+ rating for quality, and best value too. Will definitely continue to use Totta for rest of house.

I met with Mike Totta who was very nice. The work was actually performed by Ron who was excellent. I wanted my floors to be gray not the usual shades of brown. Together Ron and I came up with a the right stain color to meet my unusual request. It was a pleasure to work with this company. And when it comes time to re-do my floors again, they will be first on my list. Thank you for a great job.
