Initial phone call promptly answered. Was referred to Ken in sales, who listened to my problem and advised replacement over repair (I had already concluded this was necessary). He recommended a new Lennox, citing his belief in better quality, and suggested a 2-stage as more efficient. He was available immediately (it was cold, I was out of town), and he met with my wife in less than an hour. The price was reasonable and we had no feeling at all of pressure or any sales pitch for upgrades. We received a discount not because of his Angie's list rating but because the home's prior owner had a maintenance agreement with the company. The next morning two very polite workmen arrived and spent 3-1/2 hours replacing the furnace. The workmanship was excellent and the work site was cleaned to perfection. Thus far, the furnace has performed flawlessly. We were very pleased with Midwest's promptness and professionalism and have no hesitation awarding them top marks.
Description of Work: Replace 1987 vintage Lennox furnace with new G60 model 2-stage furnace, including humidifier.

Midwest recommended re-routing the exhaust through the garage. They drilled a pilot hole to determine exactly where the exhaust duct should run (fabricating a probe from a coat hanger, what ingenuity!) before giving me an estimate. They were ready to do the job immediately, but were very nice about waiting until I had other estimates. They were the least expensive and the most professional about determining what work needed to be done. The installation went very smoothly. They completed the job quickly, tested it, and cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: Dryer exhaust from upstairs laundry room was blowing hot, moist air into hallway, and leaving condensation stains on ceiling in family room below.

Great overall. However they accidentally left humidifier water connection out of place. When I found it had leaked on a rug, they returned within two hours of my call and repaired line. They took the rug for professional cleaning at their expense and they discounted by several hundred dollars, the coil replacement "for the trouble they caused". They will always do my HVAC work. This is the best service provider I've ever seen!

Bob Epps of Midwest responded promptly to our call and made an evening appointment to assess the job ahead of us. The gravity furnace had been wrapped in asbestos which complicated the job. Working with him provided an education in heating and cooling. There were many factors to consider but after an unhurried discussion, he had enough information to make a quote. We waiting until all the bids were in to make a decision. Price, discounts, our experience with Bob and write-ups from Angie's List tipped the balance in Midwest's favor. They worked with us to schedule the work at our convenience. Removing the old furnace was much less disruptive than anticipated. Rick and David and Lonnie on the install crew were prompt, very hardworking, pleasant, neat and professional. There are many engineering challenges when working in an older home and they met them all with good humor and creativity. The installation looks good and works well.
Description of Work: There are advantages to living in a 100 year old home. The woodwork is beautiful, there are solid oak hardwood floors, great architectural details and a wonderful neighborhood. However, our old gravity furnace was not one of the wonderful things about the house. It filled up the basement and drove up our winter gas bills. After the high gas prices last winter, we decided it had to go. After what seemed like months of 100 degree temperature this summer, central air conditioning also seemed like an idea whose time had come. We called the top three Heating and A/C contractors in Angie's List for a bid.

I explained to them the problem that I was having; he came out and looked at it. He stated the faucet was not installed properly and would have to replace the whole faucet. He said he could try to tighten it up but it wouldn't hold up. He tightened the faucet and it lasted for three days. I called him back to tell him I would buy a faucet if it was the one I wanted. He called around to see if he could get it for me. He came about 10 days later with the parts but still needed 2 more parts. I saw that it was not everything I wanted. He called the company to let them know and they said it would be $192 more. I told him I didn't want any of it. He put my faucet back on and the faucet it working just fine. I am satisfied with it now.

The two men from Midwest Heating & Cooling did a great job. They could have kept some of the old duct work, but instead they removed substandard flexible ducts and installed new metal ones. Their craftsmanship was excellent, not only does the furnace work better, it (and the basement) looks better, too. They were working on an old house, with some tight spaces, so that's a real achievement.

Steve was on time, performed the work in a timely manner, and explained all the functionality and how to do the annual maintenance. He also heard me mention about problems I have keeping my lower levels of the house warm in the winter so he went out of his way to show me how to work the dampers in the main trunk lines. I was expecting to pay for the humidifier installation and for the furnace check, but he didn't even charge me for the furnace check. I will definitely use this company again.

The salesman, Jason Hipper, seemed very down to earth and followed through with everything as promised. The installers were great! They were prompt, courteous and knew the equipment well. Kenny headed up our installation with three other guys and they all were very pleasant to deal with. Genuine, good people. We are so pleased with our install. I would never want to use anyone else. Thank you, Angie's List, for the great recommendation!
Description of Work: Installed new 94% efficiency two stage variable furnace, a/c, humidifier, and air cleaner. They had a top of the line Lennox furnace that they'd cut the wrong side out of at another install. They gave me a great deal on it. Definitely recommend the variable speed.

Job 1: Work completed in 1 day, 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Work seems to be of high quality & the new equipment works as it's supposed to. I'm disappointed w/the carelessness regarding the lawn around the A/C-there's a spot about 6 or 7 ft long & about a ft wide where some liquid was spilled or thrown on the lawn. That strip of lawn is dead. They replaced the concrete under the old A/C & left bits of rock from the old slab on the lawn & the driveway. In spite of this, I would still recommend them - they were otherwise professional & made sure everything (including our gas fireplace) was working properly before they left; however, I would recommend to prospective customers that they discuss lawn care & cleanup before they start work. Job 2: A representative called, apologized & offered to send a 3 year supply of furnace filters in compensation for my dead lawn. I accepted. It's good to see that they re concerned about customer satisfaction & chose to deal w/it instead of just letting it go.

I informed the person when I made the appointment that I needed a 30 minute lead way to get to the property, I did not get that. The technician called when he was lost and only 10 minutes away. I drove frantically to get to the location and with about 15 minutes left to go, the technician called and said he left as he couldn't wait any longer. I was not happy, so he turned around and come back. He checked it out, determined it wasn't working. Charged me $74.00 to tell me that he recommends a new unit, but a sales person would have to contact me. 2 days later a sales person contacted me and gave me a tentative quote over the phone but has not sent me anything in writing yet.

The salesman, Bob Epps, was very helpful and knowledgeable concerning our needs. He told us our 17 year old furnace was all right, but we decided to replace it for a more efficient furnace at this time. The installers, Billy, Glen and Jordan, showed up on time, told when the work would be completed (4:00 PM) and went to work. They were professional, courteous, and informative (they answered all my questions). They finished the installation and clean-up by 4:10PM. It has been a week and the air conditioner, coils and furnace blower are working exceptionally well. I would recommend Midwest Heating to my family and friends.

Tom came before noon as scheduled. He was very personable and did not try to sell us anything we did not need. I had actually emailed the business from their website to describe the problem we were having with the air conditioner. They promptly called at 8:00 AM the next day because I had emailed them after the normal business day. Everyone we had contact with was extremely knowledgable and courteous. The Angie's List coupon was also an added bonus!
Description of Work: After Tom checked the unit he discovered that it had probably been a long time since the outside unit had been cleaned or serviced. He hosed all of the debris out of the unit and retested the freon level to make sure it was correct. He did an excellent job and was very thorough in describing what we need to do to keep it running efficiently. He also changed the filter.

Craig was very knowledgeable, courteous, and thorough, and Justin was exceptionally able. Jason, who gave the quote, exhibited precise and specific knowledge of his products and their appropriateness to our needs. No pushy salesmanship, or confusing oversell - just one brand, one model, and one price. I know I made the right choice between this company and their number 1 competitor on Angie's List, even though we have a furnace from Neal Harris, as well as a Service contract. It was also noteworthy that 2 of the 3 personnel on this job had formerly worked for Neal Harris. In this situation, Neal Harris simply priced themselves out of contention. If I have any trouble getting service from Neal Harris on this new a/c, that will end our relationship.
Description of Work: A new 3 ton York was installed to replace an 18+ year old Reem. 2 servicemen took a little over 2 hours to disconnect and remove the old unit and level the concrete pad, place the new unit (which was twice the physical size) and reconnect all the lines. The soldering double check fortunately revealed the need for reinforcement, and after replacing their tanks, that was quickly addressed. The only negative moments had to do with the removal of the old unit - a few shrubs and flowers may not come back from it. Otherwise, even the cleanup was well-done, complete and courteous. I would also add that the reasonableness of the price was convincing - especially after checking the consumers report on this brand and the one also quoted (by a competitor), the $750 difference bid was not reinforced by what I found there. I proudly give Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing (whom I called because of their position on Aangie's List) a straight A!

They showed up when promised to provide an estimate. Workers were there when promised and finished in about 3 hours. They installed new flex duct, removed and hauled away the old ductwork. Everybody was polite and professional. Some confusion when they arrived to do the work as the estimate was for replacing ALL ductwork runs but workers thought they were just supposed to replace what was torn. They called for more duct, which was delivered quickly and didn't cause much delay. I was unhappy about the price because their Angie's List coupon stated "10% OFF SERVICE CALL PARTS & LABOR" but the sales person said that was just for new homes and he wouldn't honor the coupon for our job (I asked at the time he provided a quote, not after the work was done). I did not get other quotes, so I don't know how the actual price paid would compare.
Description of Work: Replaced 11 runs of flex HVAC duct in attic for our heat pump. Attached to ceiling vents in 1-story house and main HVAC trunk in attic. Hauled away old ductwork. Duct installed was R6 insulated. Basically straight runs of approx 10-15' each.
