Overall, it was a good experience, and I was pleased to know that I could have a nice patio at a relatively reasonable cost without too much trouble. However, I have not contracted with him to do any work so far because I am still not ready, and because I would like to get some other estimates first.
Description of Work: I have an area behind my house which I would like to turn into a patio, but I was having a hard time visualizing it based on some of the existing features. I was not in a position to have any work actually done at that time, being involved in another project, but wanted to plan ahead and have some idea of what could be done and how much it might cost. So when I saw the Big Deal on Angie's List, offering a landscape consultation with sketch, I went for it. I figured someone working in this business would be able to see what I could not. And in that I was not disappointed. Roye Dillon came over on time and had no trouble visualizing what could be accomplished. I liked the changes he proposed, and so in addition to this area, we also walked around the yard, and I asked him for suggestions as to appropriate plantings for various other locations. He then wrote up an estimate for pavers, plants, edging and mulch, which looked reasonable to me, although I have to say I have little experience in this area. I did not receive a sketch, as advertised. Had I remembered this was supposed to be part of the Big Deal, I would have asked for one, but unfortunately I forgot. He, on his part, did not volunteer to do one. This was rather in keeping with the rest of his conversation, when he would answer direct questions, but did not otherwise volunteer much information.

I purchased a big deal for a landscape of up to 2 hours. The company called me to schedule the appointment and seemed very professional. The consultant arrived at 10 am on April 15. I had written 1 pm on the calendar. Not sure who was incorrect. At any rate, I wasn't quite ready with my list of what I wanted to go over. There was one quite small bed in particular where I wanted ideas and hopefully a landscape design. He did do a sketch of that area and gave me an bid on the cost of some of the plants we discussed. He gave me suggestions for other parts of the yard only in answer to specific questions such as: "I want a flowering tree in that area. What do you recommend?" I expressed interest in a low-maintenance water feature, and he suggested a bubbler rock and gave me an estimate on that. It was significantly more than I was prepared to pay, but it helped me make a decision to do without that particular amenity at this time. He also noted that a couple of my existing evergreens were in serious trouble and recommended Mushroom Stuff to try to save them. The entire consultation lasted about an hour. Because I really wanted to get going on this project, and because I liked his ideas about what to plant, and I know that companies offer Big Deals to generate business, I broke one of my own rules and decided to accept his bid for the proposal without doing any research on the plants or their usual price. So some of my review probably respresents buyers remorse. He suggested the job would be about 6 weeks out, but because it was a small project, they might be able to fit it in between other jobs. I asked that they call before they come, as I wanted to be there when the planting took place. He called about 10 days later to say they could probably come the next day. I was not going to be home for most of the day, so I declined. The workers then came on April 29 in the late afternoon. No call was made this time, so I was not expecting them. I was in the middle of getting dinner, a major deal in our house not to be put off due to my husband's medical condition. Nevertheless I did go out to watch. None of the 3 (or maybe it was 4) workers spoke English. I wish I did speak Spanish, but, unfortunately I don't, so communication was a problem. It did not seem to me that they followed the best practices that agricultural extension agents recommend. They dug a hole just big enough for each plant. The depth was correct but it is recommended that it be significantly wider. They did not loosen the roots or water them in. In the end, they planted 3 of the shrubs in an alternate location from the plan because I thought that area needed a lot more site preparation than they were going to do. The proposal called for topsoil to be added to that particular area, but, as far as I could tell, they were just going to dump the soil on top of what was a tangle of wild strawberries and violets, which I had not yet had a chance to dig up. Again had I known when they would be here, I would have looked at the design and, in spite of our adverse weather, tried to get the weeds out beforehand. Because this is a highly rated company, I had expected a professional job including a soil test and site preparation. When I looked at the bid, I saw that no such preparation was specified, so I cannot say PrestigeOne didn't do exactly what they said they would do. I did speak to the consultant on the phone during the work. He said that he thought it was better not to amend the soil in the planting hole itself, that it should be the same as the dirt around it. I understand that, but I thought that the dirt around it needed amending as well. I wish that I had asked more questions about what they would do to get these plants off to a good start. Had I known, they were just going to plop them down in the middle of the weeds, I would not have let them plant until I had managed to do some site preparation myself, I wish I had gone to a couple of local nurseries to compare costs. Because the work that was done was no better and perhaps not as good as I have had in the past from Suburban Lawn and Garden. Suburban has the utilities marked before they start digging, and they give a one year guarantee. PrestigeOne guaranteed nothing. Suburban also leaves you with care instructions. I believe that the shrubs at least if not the tree had labels, but they were removed. I am not even sure exactly what variety of tree I have other than it is a weeping redbud. The weeping redbud, in particular, seemed very pricey. I checked online and the going price seemed to be about 1/5 of what they charged. The tree they planted was probably significant larger than what I found online. But I still think I should have compared. This is, of course, not the fault of PrestigeOne. However the price he quoted was not broken down by plant but just a total. It was not until I received the invoice that I realized that half the cost was for one tree. I would have been willing to start out with a smaller tree. I suspect that this company is much more interested in large projects with lots of hardscaping than in small projects like mine. However, you never know. A good job on a small project might lead to a much bigger project in the future. I will say that so far the things they planted look healthy and seem to be doing well.

They were prompt and professional. They did some measurements and discussed just a couple options. I was surprised they didn't suggest more options. Basically I spent the 100.00 for nothing but I knew that could be the case. I went with another idea I had and had a friend do the work. Very happy with the out come.

I was very pleased with the overall progression of the project. Roye was knowledgeable, cordial and professional. Aside from a few weather interruptions the entire project was completed more quickly than I had expected. The project commenced within a day or two of the original anticipated start date. The crews always arrived timely and worked diligently throughout the project. The worksite was kept clean and orderly each day. The project crew was friendly and they were always willing and able to answer any questions. I had several changes as the work progressed and Roye was quick to respond with pricing and scheduling. Overall, this was a very favorable experience.
Description of Work: Removal of existing patio. Hardscape consisting of a new 28X18 paver patio and stoop with firepit and sitting wall. Approximately 100' of 3.5'W paver paths. Tree removal and removal of several planted areas. Extensive landscaping including edgestone edging, new trees, 50+ new plantings, soil and mulch. Bury downspouts and install pvc drainage system.

[member name removed] were great to work with on this project. I met w/ them to start & developed a plan & pricing. We met a second time to confirm the details & then got started. [member name removed] was kind in not mentioning the delay due to the snow in late March, but we were able to finish & the place looks amazing (if I must say so myself!)! I look forward to working with them in the future! Roye

The owner came on time and was very nice. We walked around the yard and we showed him what areas we wanted to have "sketched". After "drawing" up the design in his truck, he came into the house to show us what he had come up with. However, we didn't get a sketch. We got a list of plants the he suggested we have put in, and showed us pictures of the plants in a book that he had. So we didn't have any idea what they would all look like together. Because I felt like I was misled when I bought the "deal", I will not be giving Prestige One any more of my money. It was a waste of $49 and the time I took off work for the consultation.

As has been discussed w/ several reviews there was a misprint in the ad that should have been stated "sketch upon request". Due to the misunderstanding I would be happy to set up another time to meet to develop the sketch. I am sorry there was any misunderstanding about the sketch. Thank you! Roye

I used Roye Dillons company in September, 2011 and did not hesitate to call him for this job. He has an amazing crew of men who work tirelessly until the job is done. A paving block patio that was too small and not put in correctly (by another company) was torn out and replaced with a larger patio including a wonderful fire pit. They put circle paving stones in the patio which gives it charm and character and extended a walkway from the patio to another walkway. They even returned later to lay sod around the edge of the patio so that we did not have to seed it. When completed the job was, in my opinion, "perfect" and even better than I had anticipated. A professional company, with pride in their workmanship is hard to find these days. I will use them for any future projects that I may have and will be proud to recommend them to my friends and family. WAY TO GO! Prestige One Landscaping, and Kudos to Roye and his crew for a job well done.

I saw where Angie's list rated Prestige One and your comments included. So I had Mr. Dillon give me a estimate on replacement. He called and emailed me with the description of what work needed to be done. I weight his proposal with others on Angie's list. I chose Prestige One over the others. His crew just finished up a job so they got started right away on my job. Well to make a long story short, Mr. Dillon completed my work in just a few days with no hassles and man what a transformation. I am very happy with the new stone retaining wall built for me. Thanks you Mr. Roye Dillon! and crew. Great looking family.

The guy ( can't remember his name now it's been a while) called soon after I purchased this big deal to schedule the consultation. He came right when he said he would. He was very polite, friendly and professional. We walked around the yard and I showed him several areas we were considering re-landscaping and picked the front yard/front of house for the area to be "sketched" with a plan and told him of my "vision" of what our landscaping would look like, and our needs (ie: mostly low maintenance plantings/trees etc) He was listening attentively, offering opinions along the way etc., very appropriate. At the conclusion of our walk/discussion, he was telling me how much new business he acquired from running the big deal and how busy he planned to be, which I thought and said was great! Then he said he'd be back in a few. I was surprised that he was going to do his "sketch" in his vehicle and bring it right back to me. When he handed me a piece of notebook paper with a hand drawn rough sketch of a landscaping layout with items numbered, and a list of plant varieties on the back numbered in reference to the numbers on the "sketch" I was disappointed. I had thought and hoped I'd be getting a professional looking landscape sketch like you see on various websites and magazines and a more thorough list and printed explanation/description of each planting with images of what they really look like and their growth habit etc. I don't know if what I got was his "normal" or "usual" version of a landscape sketch, or if he was just overwhelmed with the business he was getting from the deal and didn't have time to do it properly, but I'll never find out. I don't have a ton of time and money to give a second chance or further inquiry. I will be looking for a different landscaper to help plan out our landscaping. But he was VERY nice and friendly and seemed to really know his stuff. Maybe just not in line with what or how I needed to hear or see it.

At the initial meeting, I told Roye not to tell me a date and not follow through. I understood things happen and delays happen, but to keep me informed. I was told the job would begin the end of July. I had to contact this company twice to find the project was delayed until the end of August. I sent e-mails and would wait days before sending yet another one before getting a response. The communication was very bad on keeping me updated and informed. They finally came in September. By that time, they couldn't find enough of the plants originally agreed upon. I compromised but wasn't happy. Roye did keep trying to find the plants with success. After a week, a few died and I had to insist they be replaced. They said they weren't dead, but they were. The sprinkler system had a broken line after the job was finished and I was told it was due to low water pressure. What?! It worked fine and had been serviced earlier. Finally, it was fixed. I now worry about whether the plants will come back in the spring. I just don't trust everything will be fine. The crew worked very hard and did a good job of cleaning up. However, the language barrier was a problem. It was difficult to understand and fix the issues quickly.

I came home from work one day and the crew had worked miracles in one day. I was surprised at how much they accomplished. The next day, it was completed and what a difference. I'm sure my neighbors that face the east side of the house were thrilled also because previously that area was so plain and bare. I was especially impressed by the river rock and the pavers - what a beautiful job they did. The plants chosen and approved by me ahead of time are going to be awesome in the spring. I really appreciate that the consultant listened to me and came up with a great plan and choice of plants. He also walked around the property and answered my questions in such a courteous manner. I definitely am pleased with the service provided by Prestige One and would highly recommend them. There was only one concern - after the initial visit, it was a while before they could get my property on their schedule. However, they kept in touch and it all worked out in the end. The summer was so hot, it would not have been good for the plants. As it was, planting in the fall is the better time.
Description of Work: Laid pavers on flower beds on east, west and north sides of house. Filled in with beautiful river rock and planted bushes and shrubs. Cleared out scrub bushes and weeds from back fence and arbor. Laid cedar mulch and planted bushes by fence and clematis by arbor.

I purchased this service from an Angie's list coupon that must have been pretty popular because Prestige was not able to come out for 3 weeks because of the backlog of appointments. I was disappointed but understood. During the consultation the designer was very helpful. He identified the trees and shrubs currently on the property and gave me suggestions for their care and improvement. He identified poison ivy that I had not previously noticed. He walked the yard with me and listened to I wanted to do and which areas were most important. Then he excused himself to his truck for a few minutes to draw up a design. The design was hand drawn, but all plants were labelled as well as areas of shade and sun in the yard. The design helped me decide how to shape the beds and where to place them. However the selection of plants seemed limited to me. There were mainly hostas (which I love), roses and boxwoods. I kinda felt like I already had those ideas and would have liked to see more variety in the design. The area that had the poison ivy was overgrown and needed to have underbrush cleaned out. He gave me an estimate that was very reasonable to do that work, but he wasn't sure how soon he could get to it. I authorized him to do the work as soon as he could, but got the impression that he could not get to it for a few weeks. Eventually I hired another service to do that clean up. Overall I feel like Prestige has good prices, good customer interaction, and excellent knowledge in their field. I think they could improve on their responsiveness. i may have just caught them at a busy time this summer.

Mr. Dillon showed up when scheduled. We talked for about an hour, toured the yard together. I informed him of our goals and what type of plants I'd like to see. He then walked around the year, unaccompanied, writing on his clipboard as he went. He told me that he would get "it" mailed to me in several days. Weeks went by and nothing was mailed. I emailed his office and then the secretary called me back. He had instructed her to make another appointment for him to come out....again. I told her that I don't want to meet with him again....I just want the sketch I paid for. I then told her to have him call me. He never called. I sent another email giving him several days to send me the sketch or contact me, and I recieved/heard nothing. I've read some of the other reviews from members who were not satisfied. Mr. Dillon has used the excuse that he is overwhelmed, that the sketch is only available if requested, and that he has mailed sketches to others but they never got them. Mr. Dillon presents himself as a Christian family man.....I paid $49.00 for the pleasure of spending an hour of my life with this scam artist. Do not trust this man....he doesn't keep his word, is not trustworthy, and has poor ethics.
Description of Work: I paid $49.00 for a "Landscape Consultation with Sketch" for "assessment and consultation with sketch/proposal based on member needs and not to scale". This wording is taken directly from the paperwork provided by Angies List upon purchase. Mr. Dillon came to my house, talked to me, toured the yard with me, and then took notes/sketched while walking around in yard after we had talked for around an hour.

Member, apparently the proposal & design didn't get to you. I thought it was mailed out in June. I will check & resend it to you. I apologize & am sorry for any delay in getting it to you for your review. Hopefully you can still use the design in your decision making process, feel free to contact me or the office for some of our references that you can talk to about our work (like a good fine wine the wait is worth it!). :-) Again apologies for any delay. The consultant arrived when scheduled and we discussed my landscaping concerns. Since we had moved from another area, he was especially helpful with discussing the specific concerns in Kansas City. He made suggestions for what grows best in that climate. There was a large overgown area that needed to be re-landscaped. We both agreed that the best action was to completely tear out all the plants, bushes, weeds and random trees. He made a plan and gave me a bid, which I felt was so competitive that I did not look at anyone else. He impressed me as trustworthy and professional, and I am sure he will deliver what he has promised.
Description of Work: A landscaping plan and consultation on lawn problems. The consultant furnished me with exactly whay I expected. He walked around the yard and talked about the various issues. He provided a written plan.

This response is puzzling as we have the work scheduled for early August for phase 1 (the tear out) & then Phase 2 we were going to over at that time & plan for fall install (a cooler & wetter time) as it is too hot to plant at this time. So is this response a prank or a bad joke? as I have scheduled for August to do the work

Because of surgeries and illness our backyard had been neglected for a few years. It was a mess and too overwhelming to tackle on our own. We had an old deck torn down and mud and cement footings, where the deck had been, surrounded the small patio slab underneath. The hilly portion of our yard under our trees was mud and weeds. Roye listened to what we wanted and came up with a design that met our needs. The existing patio was extended with pavers surrounding it. We also have a fire pit and sitting wall on the patio and a beautiful walkway extends from the patio to the side gate. A dry creek bed extends through the trees, surrounded by mulch and shade plants. Roye also suggested burying and extending the downspouts with popup drains to prevent erosion from rainwater. He also noticed the poor drainage from our sump pump and downspout in the front yard and suggested a french drain and popup system there. In addition to being prompt and professional, he is a very nice guy with good ideas. His crew are very hard workers - worked 10 & 12 hour days and completed the job in 4 days. Instead of hating to look out the back windows or go outside in the backyard, we now enjoy an absolutely beautiful view of our patio and yard and as soon as this exceptionally hot weather leaves us, hope to enjoy sitting on the patio and using our firepit! We highly recommend Prestige Landscaping.

Thank you Member! It was a real treat to work w/ you all on this project. It had some challenges & rewards in it. I love to take a yard & make it over to something the homeowners can enjoy for years to come. I also look forward to getting the chance to finish the backyard (next year?). My crew does do a good job. My foreman has been w/ me for 8 seasons now & has really come into his own on running the jobs & getting them done in a timely fashion & getting them done to meet & beat my expectations (& the clients)! We are going to even be talking w/ a referral from the members on doing something similar to their project. Thanks again! Roye

See Above....NOT GOOD!
Description of Work: Came out for and gave us a written estimate for project. They never mentioned the drawing or the $50 coupon we paid for in advance. .2 days later, my wife called them and asked about the drawing and she was told that WE HAD to ASK FOR IT AT THE ESTIMATE! We thought that's what the $50 was for, a drawing of the landscaping discussed. When my wife asked when can we get it, and she was told no they won't be doing it since we didn't ask for it at the estimate! My wife expressed her dissatisfaction to the Office person she talked to saying if we thought we would have had to PAY $50 JUST FOR AN ESTIMEATE, we would have NEVER done it! They said they would get back with her and so far to date we have NOT heard from them since! Would never use their service with this attitude and exerience! WOULD LIKE TO GET OUR $50 BACK since we got nothing!!! TOO BAD we got them OFF of YOUR Site!

The design was mailed out. The offer was supposed to state sketch upon request, but on the coupon it didn't get stated that way. So I have mailed the sketch & an apology to the client. I also would appreciate clients or prospective clients to not YELL at my office person over really anything. Jennifer had only worked for my for one week when this offer hit & w/ 69 responses, she was a little over whelmed & has nothing to do w/ my appointments, other than setting them. Again sketch has been, mailed & an apology sent. I am sorry for the mix up & I have brought this issue to Angie's List advertising department over the mistake in the ad.
