Per plan.
Description of Work: Jim repaired a large sink hole in a drive on a shopping center - took out about 2 feet of fill out replaced it with gravel and poured 8" of concrete. This drive sees heavy truck traffic and it was important to fix it right. Looks great and no issues for the first 30 days.

Jim called me once I purchased the Deal on Angie's list and made the appointment very soon after I made the purchase. On the day of the appointment, he actually was able to come earlier than estimated and called me to verify this was OK. Once he arrived, he listened and looked at the problems I'm having with my garage floor. He was able to calm my fears that this was something that would cause me bigger problems over time, and explained why it occurred and what he would do to resolve the issue. I feel confident that if Jim were to complete the work, I would have have this problem occur again. I am just not in the financial position to have this work competed at this time.
Description of Work: Jim provided a very thorough estimate on what it would take to dig out and replace the my Garage floor as well as looking at my driveway and basement for any potential bigger problems. I am just not ready to have the work done at this time.

Over the course of ten days, including the wait time for concrete to set up, Jim and his crew raised a room addition that was sinking, replaced all the piers this time appropriately sized for the room, added beams to ensure adequate support, and finished the work with an enclosure sitting on a concrete base. It's now safe from critters, looks professional, and best of all, the room doesn't vibrate when the washer is on spin cycle! Al work was done professionally, and in accordance with our agreement.
Description of Work: Replaced the piers supporting a room addition; added cross beams for support; raised and leveled the room; enclosed the opening beneath the room

Jim called me promptly after I had purchased the Big Deal on Angie's web site. We set up a time for him to come and look at my drive and sidewalk. Jim was on time and we discussed the problems for 10 minutes or so. He gave me a verbal estimate for the work, and I asked him to send me an estimate for redoing the sidewalk alone and for the walk and drive together. I never heard from him again. I consider $50.00 for 10 minutes of work to be something of a rip-off.
Description of Work: I spent $50.00 for an Angie's List Big Deal with Jim Roberts Concrete Finishing for a consultation about my front walk, which is breaking up, and my concrete drive which is badly cracked.

Received an email from Jim the next day after purchasing deal to set an appoinment. We scheduled for a little over a week later, Wednesday, September 5. He called and cancelled at the last moment within an hour of the appointment on September 5. Second visit for an estimate was scheduled for a week later on September 12. This time, Jim did not show and did not call. I called 15 minutes into the appointment time and got his voice mail. I asked for a return call. He did not call me back for 5 days. He was apologetic and told me he would give me a good price for the scheduling mishaps. We made an appointment for the next night, Wednesday, September 18. We received an estimate at that appointment. I wasn't certain he was giving me a good deal and since we were doubling the size of the patio over what the Angie's list deal was for, it was hard to tell if the deal was honored at all. He discouraged us from stamped and stained as he said it is expensive. He was especially concerned about an existing step that needed to removed as it was poured with the original foundation. He explained the extra, significant cost it would require to remove. He also made a big deal about a tree root that was present so we altered what we wanted to go around it. So, we agreed on plain concrete and agreed to the estimate. He said he could start in a couple of weeks which would have meant starting the week of October 1. I did not hear anything from Jim. I waited another week and contacted him on Monday, October 8 (3 weeks after the estimate). He returned my phone call the next day. He was apologetic for being "a little behind" and told me it was going to still be another week (4 weeks after the estimate, starting the week of October 15). I have not heard anything from Jim. It is now 5 weeks since he did the estimate - 3 weeks after the agreed upon start date - and almost 2 months since the initial purchase of this deal and first contact with Jim. I am now seeing that he has NEW deals popping up on Angie's list which is especially confusing. It looks like he has completely dismissed the job I hired him to do. I also see his rating has gone from an A to a B since I hired him. I called another contractor yesterday for an estimate. He arrived at my house the same day (last night) and provided an estimate. He is not worried about the removal of the step, agreed to remove the root with no problem, is adding an additional 100 square feet over Jim Robert's estimate, is doing stamping, staining and a border all for about $300 LESS than Jim Robert's estimate. And the work started this morning. It will all be done by tomorrow around noon. Angie's list has agreed to refund me the original amount I paid for the deal with Jim Roberts.
Description of Work: Purchased an Angie's list deal for demolition of old and pouring of new concrete patio on Sunday, August 26.

Jim is experienced and skilled at working with stamped concrete. He assisted us with making a good choice for our new patio, answered all of our questions immediately, and was alway very polite. He cleaned up the worksite pretty well every day. Jim planned to started our patio on job on July 19th and expected to be done in 2 to 3 days, but there were numerous delays because he needed to finish the job he was working on before ours, then he needed to be present when an inspector came. When he started our job the week of August 23rd, a big tree stump was in the way and had to be removed. We called several tree stump companies before selecting Jim for our project, but none of them kept their appointments with us. By the time Jim was ready to start, the stump was still in the way, and Jim offered to remove it at his labor cost with the frontloader. He also bought a huge chain saw at his own expense and spent nearly 3 days trying to get the stump out. He then got some help with it and it came out. We saw the stump as it was being loaded onto a big dump truck, and it was unbelievably huge with long, large roots. Once the patio was poured, stamped, and had stain scattered to make the rock pattern look even more realistic, and the patio was starting to look very good, things were moving along. The patio and the cement steps Jim made for us look very good. There are a couple of low areas in the patio that collect rain water, but we don't expect those to create a serious problem. The only thing we would change if we worked with Jim again would be to have a firm date for when a project is completed.

It was an estimate only.
Description of Work: This was an estimate only for repair of my front stoop, where the concrete was chipped and crumbling on the corners. The estimate of $825 was a little high, considering that the work would be done by a 16 year old boy - in training., Jim, and his adult daughter. Also, the possibility of damage to my driveway by the concrete truck was a concern, since the driveway already has several cracks. The estimate stated he would not be responsible for damage. I decided it would be too risky.

Overall Jim was very nice. He worked the entire job by himself which caused the job to take much longer than he originally quoted. There were a few days when he didn't show up or had to reschedule. Weather also ended up playing into time delays. Overall he did an ok job. It was very simple concrete work.

The quote was for $8000 - $9000. We were disappointed because they didn't get the estimate back to us quickly. We were also disappointed that we paid them a fee for the estimate and nobody else were charging the fee, so we would probably not do that again. We had to reschedule a couple of times, but they did call.

I called Jim Robers' Concrete Finishing Wednesday, 7-15-2012 and left a message saying I would like to set up an appointment for an estimate on replacing my driveway. He left a message on my phone asking that I send an email and he would then be able to call me back. The next day he sent me a response email saying he should be able to come by around 8:00 that evening. We waited 45 minutes but he never came by. The next day, Friday, he left a message around 6:40 P.M. apologizing for not getting back sooner. He said he had intended to stop by the previous evening but ended up working later than he had planned. He had also been extremely busy and had a lot of equipment breakdowns but would like to stop by yet that evening. Since we weren't home when he called, his message was not returned. On Saturday around 1 P.M. he left another message again saying how busy he had been and how many equipment breakdowns he had but he could stop by around 3:45 or later. Since we were away from home all day Saturday, I did not get this message until very late. On Monday I received an email saying he could stop by after 5:00 and asking if he could contact me to set a definite time. I responded that that would be fine but heard no more until receiving a phone call later that evening saying he had stopped by, measured the driveway, and would be glad to email me an estimate. I asked for an estimate of a simple concrete drive, a stamped drive, and a colored drive. While the bid I received was reasonable, it was for only the simple concrete. It also stated that minor repairs would need to be made to the lawn on each side but those costs were not included.

Description of Work: I e-mailed J. Roberts on Monday , 13 August, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. with questions referencing an ad on Angie's list pertaining to his business and a business deal being offered. I requested to get an estimate for fixing a home driveway. I e-mailed to the address provided in the ad. It is now going on midday Thursday with no response of any type. Too much time when there are other companys available.

Description of Work: We purchased the "$49 consultation and evaluation." Unless our expectations were way out of whack, we didn't get much for the money. He spent less than 15 minutes looking at our potential projects to decide if he'd like to give us a bid or not. His answer for each was to pour concrete over our existing patios. Although he's probably good at pouring concrete, we didn't feel we got a "consultation" in any way, shape or form. Fifty bucks not well spent.

Description of Work: Jim came out and gave us a verbal assessment of our settlement problems and estimate of the work he would do to tear out and replace our garage floor. I asked him to follow up with a written estimate on his letterhead. He said that he could email me his estimate with his name, address and phone number (in lieu of putting it on a letterhead stationary). I accepted that and gave him my email address. He said I would receive it in the next couple of days. That was Monday. It is a good four weeks later and I have not heard back from him. One thing that put me off about him was that he suddenly, in the midst of our meeting, offered a sales pitch for a get rich quick business he had recently bought into. I tried to tell him several times that I wasn't interested, but he kept on telling me about it. I do admit that my husband kept prompting him with questions about it, so that urged him on. Anyway, I asked him not to use my email address for anything other than to send me his estimate. He said that he would not. Since I didn't hear back from him, I'm not sure what to think.

I would highly recommend him to do concrete work. The knowledge he gave me for my driveway problems was priceless. He didn't charge me anything for coming to just give advice, and I wanted to pay he for his time but he wouldn't have it, you don't see that style anymore...
Description of Work: I supposed to have bought the service/ estimate for our problem driveway. Jim was very nice, punctual, and easy to talk with. He definitely knew his concrete. We had problems with the guy that poured the driveway before, and I wanted some suggestions and or work to be done. He was very honest and said to try and clean the driveway first then put a sealant on it or he would be happy to put the sealant on it. He gave me a couple of numbers to call and helped me call to make sure I said the information right to the people over the phone.

My experience was really good. He came out and gave me an estimate. I asked my brother some questions and relayed them to him and answer them immediately. He came out and did a great job. He did such a great job friends and family and even neighbors driving down the street have stopped commented on how great the driveway looks. He seemed knowledgeable and on time and took care of everything perfectly.

He did really good work. His follow up was good. They were professional when they arrived and did their work. We did have an issue with the pump needed to use to bring the concrete back because we didn't want them to use a bobcat and tear up our yard. It came out to be more expensive than originally thought in the beginning. But everything else was great. I would recommend him to friends and family. He did great follow up for us as well. He also did a good job cleaning up after himself. Please note if you decide to use a pump to bring the concrete in that you make sure the price is correct. He did try to get the price lower for us, it was a subcontractor that was used, but the subcontractor would not budget on his price.
