Two men from O'Brien Iron came to put in the railing. They did not make sure the railing is parallel to the front of the house, so one end of the 12-foot railing is almost two inches farther away from the house than the other end. Since the railing is rather close to the house (about 4 feet away from it) this difference of 2 inches is visible and irritating. It would have been an easy thing to make sure the railing is parallel. I would use O'Brien Iron in the future (if they outbid competitors), but I would ask more questions and be more involved in the implementation. The railing we have is ok for now, but it's not perfect.

Took several weeks, but the job got done to my satisfaction. Very happy to have railing in icy winter!

Each came out and provided an estimate and discussed the type of railings which were available.The proposal was written and detailed the work to be done. I could have chosen any of them, and decided to go with the lowest bidder. The work was scheduled within the time interval we discussed. Railing was installed as promised and seems fine.

Made call to firm and Shawn O'Brien came out as scheduled, did measurements and promised proposal in the mail. Upon acceptance after half down I came home and found the rail installed as promised. I am very satisfied with the workmanship and installation.

I was emailed an estimate, once Shawn had been out and measured my front steps. I mailed in a deposit, the railing was made and then installed. I came home from work, saw the railing in place -- it looks great! Really "finishes" the appearance of the front entrance. The style is perfect for the house, as is the color. Beautiful job!

We needed to replace front cement steps as part of a home project. We wanted wrought iron hand rails in keeping with the homes style. Shawn came out and gave us an estimate for the style of hand rail we wanted. Their website made the selection process quite easy, and they were very helpful in answering questions about the style and dimensions; since they are custom fabricated. Delivery and installation was timely and professional. I'm glad we went with them.

We replaced a small (4'10') deck off a second-floor office with composite decking and wanted to replace the rickety railing as well. We checked out Menard's and found the prices were good but the products were tacky looking. My husband went online and found a number of local wrought-iron contractors, but the O'Brien Ornamental Iron website had much more information than the others: photos, testimonials, details about the company. We liked the fact that it was a family-owned company, so we decided to start with them. Making an appointment was a bit of a hassle because we both work Mon-Fri and they're not open Saturdays. (Neither was any other local outfit we checked out.) We made an appointment for a lunch hour and went out to their small office/showroom. That visit sold us. The staffer who helped us had worked there for years and answered all our questions. They had a number of railing options that would look great on our 1920s house. We met one of the O'Briens and had a positive feeling about him. So we decided to place an order. We were able to work out another lunch hour to have one of the O'Briens come and measure the area. He showed up on time and moved quickly. A momentary glitch occurred in the ordering process. The staffer emailed us the invoice and I'm glad I checked it closely because somehow our order for a black finish had become bronze. But the error was corrected in minutes. It took 3-4 weeks between the order and the installation, just like they said. On installation day, another O'Brien arrived right on time with an assistant. They installed the railing quickly and left me with a little bottle of touch-up paint. We paid twice what we would have paid at Menard's but every day when I come home, I see that railing and feel grateful that we went with O'Brien. The railing gives a classy accent to the back of the house.

They were responsive. I liked the price. I don't have any complaints. It was pretty simple.

Excellent. Placed the order on April 11th and the job was finished April 23, well before the extimated date of completion.

The job went very well. I really appreciated that they are set up for busy professionals who cannot get away during the day -- they have a great website that lets you see the different styles they offer, they sent someone to our house to take measurements without us being present, and they sent us quotes and the statements by e-mail. Plus, the railing seems high quality and looks good. My only small complaint is that they left the steps with these wooden braces and such, but no instructions to us about how long we had to leave those on. Again, not a big deal, I just called to get more information.

They were great. We had looked at railings at big-box home improvement stores and were really disappointed by the quality of the offerings. We shopped around online for local wrought-iron contractors, and checked the filings on Angie's List. O'Brien's had one of the best websites and the reviews were pretty good. So we called and they were highly organized and professional, quite impressive for a small company. Because they're so small, their showroom hours are limited to weekdays only. We arranged to meet the office manager/receptionist there over lunch and she did an excellent job of talking us through the options and the pricing. We settled on particular style the next day and I made the arrangements to have the railing made and installed by phone. The receptionist sent out a contract right away for review. There was a mistake in the kind of finish we wanted so I called her back and she fixed it right away. The railing arrived just when they said it would. One of the O'Briens came out just when he said he would and installed the railing. He was pleasant and gave me some good tips about maintaining the finish, and left me with a jar of touch-up paint. The railing is beautiful and firmly planted. I couldn't be happier with how the process worked.

O'Brien was by far the most reasonable of a number of bids we received, they were very responsive and professional, and the work they did was very high quality. Without charging us a penny extra, they re-welded a loose portion of our existing railing. If we get around to re-doing that section all-together, we'll definitely be calling O'Brien again!

When I replaced my front steps this spring, I wanted a railing that would complement the look of my bungalow-style home. I saw a very attractive design on a house in my neighborhood, and learned the railings had been manufactured by O?Brien Ornamental Iron. When I placed my order with O?Brien, I specified the style I wanted by the photo on their website, yet when the railings were installed, they weren?t the same model as the photo. The following day I spoke with Shawn O?Brien who apologized and immediately offered 2 options. He suggested that I leave the railings in place until my new door was installed to see whether they worked well together, and if I decided to keep them, he said they?d reduce the price by nearly 25%. But if I didn?t feel that the erroneous railings looked good with the new door, O?Brien would replace them with the style I?d originally ordered for the full price. This seemed like a sensible approach, and although I ultimately decided to have them put in the railings I had originally ordered, I appreciated being offered the choice. O?Brien showed excellent customer service, and I wouldn?t hesitate to hire them again in the future.

It went as planned. No major delays and they had the job done before the end of the month, which was my request.
