We were really pleased with the job from the very start. Mike Wilson's estimate was very detailed and stood out in terms of clarity from the other estimates we were comparing. Cost-wise, he was nearly the lowest bidder but we felt he was more professional and offered us better quality siding and roofing materials than the other companies. Mike provided us with a broad sampling of materials and colors, and when he realized I was very particular about mixing and matching colors of siding, shakes, trim, roof and windows, he directed us to the supplier's showroom for even more options. He was responsive to my ideas before and during the project and gave quick quotes on how much each change could affect the total price. There were never any surprises. The Regal Remodeler?s work crews were the best! The roofers were a large crew (since our work began extremely early in the spring, I think there were a lot of guys available for the job), very polite, and worked with lightning speed. They had the house and garage re-roofed, plus all the old siding removed from the walls in one very long day. The roof looks great - some of the shingles looked wavy, but they flattened out when the sun finally heated them up. They dumped all the roof debris onto a tarp to haul off, plus did a thorough job cleaning up all the nails and siding debris from the yard. The guys who did the siding, windows and carpentry work on the front porch were great. They were friendly, trustworthy, and made good suggestions on the details and quirks of our house. They worked carefully and didn?t cut any corners. Our old house had a lot of unattractive, pieced-together aluminum window trim, so they added new trim boards all around the windows and doors so that the trim was raised instead of being almost flush with the siding the way the old trim had been. They did a very nice job of widening the window openings on our 1980s addition, replacing the old casement windows with double-hungs which finally matched the windows on the older part of the house. They also installed replacement windows throughout the house and did a thorough job of insulating the rope and pulley cavities surrounding them. They unexpectedly needed to reinforce our front porch floor with additional joists, posts and new footings. This added a couple days to the timeline (and more than a couple dollars to the cost) but we all negotiated that easily. We now have a front porch strong enough to sustain a tornado, as the inspector demanded. Overall, we couldn?t be more pleased. Our house looks great, we had pleasant, upfront and frequent contact with Mike, I got the mix of colors and details I wanted in windows, siding, roof and trim, and we enjoyed the process! We would have no problem in recommending Regal Remodelers to our friends and relatives.
Description of Work: Regal Remodelers did our tear-off roof replacement, re-sided our house and garage with vinyl siding and aluminum trim, repaired a garage wall and installed an overhead door, did a partial remodel of our sagging front porch, widened several windows and installed replacement vinyl windows throughout our small, 1920s home.

Mike did a great job of taking a kitchen with very little counter top and giving me a kitchen that now has a ton of counter space. He was very visionary with a fairly small space to work with. The cabinets are from Ikea and I love the huge lazy susan that Mike found for me. I also love the tile that I picked out at the Tile Shop and the subcontractor did a beautiful tiling job. I will say that I found the bid for tile, at $3/square foot to be very low after perusing the selection at the store and finding pretty much nothing at that price. But I ended up using less tile than expected and so Mike did not have me pay any extra even though the tile I picked out was $23/square foot. All the subcontractors that Mike brought into my house were very courteous and respectful (and very patient with my two-year old son, who surely sometimes got in the way!). They took their time to schedule with me and kept me abreast of when they would be coming (so that we could be going!). As part of the kitchen remodel the team had to shorten an existing window. I was a bit nervous how this would look like on the outside of my house (stucco but they put just a larger piece of aluminum trim to cover the hole), but it looks really great - really professional and neat. When two unexpected glitches came into play Mike and I were able to resolve them pretty easily. One was that I thought the trim around my kitchen windows would be replaced as part of the window replacement (trim was very old and scratched and partially rotten), but it was not. Mike gave me a very reasonable price to have his subcontractor replace the trim and it looks so much better! The second glitch was a venting plumbing issue. Mike and I came to an agreement where we each paid for part of this unexpected cost. After seeing what he and his team did with my bottom cabinets, we decided to replace the uppers on our own (not originally part of the bid and it didn't work for us to add this to the project) and I couldn't be happier with my new kitchen! The windows - though not nearly exciting as a new kitchen - are great too. I love that I have windows that open (these windows replaced some of the original 1920s windows). I gave a B for price because I found the cabinets - though wonderful - to be fairly inexpensive (in comparison to what I've heard others pay for cabinets from a cabinet shop, for example). I wish I would have asked for a detailed breakdown of cost for each portion of the bid so that I could have more of an idea of where my money went. I will say though that Mike's bid was cheaper than another bid for the same (obviously a bit different since every contractor has his or her own particular vision) job. Perhaps just knowing what each part of my bid cost individually would lead me to the conclusion that his prices were very reasonable and thus deserving of an A in this category. I gave a B for professionalism because I wish Mike would have been a bit better with helping me, as a first time remodeler, know what questions to ask and what information to get from him. I know that this is not his official responsibility, but I was clear from the beginning that this was my first time doing something like this and sometimes I just felt a little lost and like I should've known things I didn't (like trim wasn't included in my kitchen windows). I think that a businessman with as much experience as he has could've taken a bit more time with me in that respect. But, his way of dealing with me when we ran into those unexpected glitches mentioned above was very respectful and fair. Overall a very good job and I would recommend Regal Remodelers and its team of subcontractors to others.
Description of Work: Mike Williams (owner of Regal Remodelers) and his team of subcontractors replaced 9 windows throughout my house and did a partial kitchen remodel (new counter tops, bottom kitchen cabinets, including demoing old bottom cabinets, tile back splash).

Mike was very easy to work with. We presented our goals to Mike and what we wanted done. He listened and then explained to us alternative routes to take that would not only improve the quality but also save us more money. He paid close attention to detail and the quality and service was outstanding! Mike installed 5 custom-made 3 section 10' tall replacement windows and 7 stationary windows on high walls with new siding and aluminum trim. During the installation Mike identified extensive areas of rotted wood so he removed and replaced the rotted wood with green-treated new members. During the bathroom remodel he ran into the same issue of rotted wood and replaced it and re-insulated the wall to bring it up to current code standards. For our boat house, he not only added the deck but also installed new windows and made what used to be a storage building into a summer bunk house complete with an amazing view of the lake.
Description of Work: I have a lake house that needed a bathroom remodeled, new windows and a deck for the boat house.

Structurally it came out okay but we had to argue with them about how much insulation was required for the shower outside walls. (The building inspector agreed with us.) The painters (who also patched the walls & ceilings) were great, but the quality & attention to detail of the tiling job was not very good. We never did get all the edge trim pieces right. The job took a long time, but they cleaned up pretty well. The whole process was kind of confusing. We should have started with a clearer plan of what we wanted done and made sure it was spelled out in the contract, especially the allowances for fixtures which were never specified. Finally, we had a 5% off coupon from Angie's List which they did not recognize (although they did knock off $100). We might use Regal again because we know what to expect, but we'd tried to do things differently (and definitely not use the designer they referenced).
Description of Work: We had a water damaged upstairs bathroom which had to be gutted & rebuilt.

The initial response was great. I think we met with Mike Williams and his lead carpenter and job site manager Bob Pierce within a couple of days. both of these gentlemen were great to work with. Mike's bid was lower than two other contractors we talked with, but beyond that he was more genuine and easy to talk with than the other gentlemen who seemed to be disappointed that we didn't have a much larger home and project. We had some simple plans drawn up by a designer not affiliated with Regal and they were willing to work with these and Bob and Mike both suggested a few changes, that being hands on guys, they thought might be potential problems. We went along with these suggestions and were thankful for their expertise. We started the project about a week and a half later, with an estimated timeline of 5 weeks. During the course of the project my wife and I made several changes, and Mike was very understanding and open to our wishes. All the subsequent adjustments to the cost , both up and down were fair and acceptable. My wife and I and our 2 dogs, continued to live on the premises , in an apartment we created in our garage, and Bob and all his crews were respectful of our being present. My wife and I can't say enough good things about Bob and the other carpenter Antonio for their professionalism, and craftsmanship. Bob also gave some sound advice about some of the esthetics of the job, that we ended up utilizing. I'd also like to commend the painting crew, who put in some very long days, which really helped get us back into our home a bit ahead of the schedule, and this was much appreciated . I would recommend Regal to anyone looking to get quality work done. We will not hesitate to call Regal in the future for any other home improvement/remodel projects. We love our "new" home.
Description of Work: We have a 1940's era home with a 1970's addition. Regal repaired and refinished the oak floors in the original home, and installed hard wood flooring in the addition. The entire interior of our home was painted , walls and ceilings. They removed some faux ceiling beams that were installed in the late 60's and repaired that ceiling. They partitioned a large room, creating an art studio and his and her's closets. they moved a closet from one room to another by closing that wall, and opening the other side. They installed three new windows and matched the siding around each. New lighting was installed. New ceramic tile in Kitchen ( both floor and backsplash) , Bath and back entrance area. All the interior doors and window trim , along with baseboards was replaced. New lighting was installed along with hard wired smoke alarms.

Once we were comfortable with the architect?s plan, we considered contractors to execute it. Regal and Mike Williams had done excellent work for us before. When the Regal bid was competitive with other contractors, the choice was easy. Regal has excellent workmen. Of particular note on our project were the finish carpenter and the tile setter. The detail of crown mouldings, door and window trim, and tall baseboards required multiple layers of millwork, all of which had to make tight returns at the corners. After 12 years, no gaps or misalignments have appeared. The tile setter suggested putting the back splash tiles on the diagonal. That detail added elegance, and remarkably the diagonals meet perfectly in the corners. He also inset a flower-basket tile picture in the dining area. This project required craftsmen of many skills. It was a rare day that work was not ongoing. Scheduling is an art, and Regal has mastered it. At the end of the day, the work site was cleaned up; a relief to us because there were the curious who dropped in to see the progress. The prospect of living 5 to 6 months in a construction site was daunting. Mike Williams assured me that I would have a temporary kitchen. He moved the old pantry sink and its cabinet into an adjoining sun porch, hooked up hot and cold water with garden hoses. Along with the refrigerator, microwave, and a hotplate, we were in business. We agreed to have our project on the Remodolors? Showcase tour at the beginning of October. In early September the last dumpster was pulled out of the back yard. We no longer had grass, the concrete sidewalk was cracked and broken by construction vehicles? it was a mess. Rather than concrete walks we decided upon brick. Mike to the rescue; he knew someone to install brick pavers, and after 12 winters the brickwork is still in fine condition. He also knew who to contact for quality sod and installation. We had a grand time at Remodolors? Showcase, most visitors did not know who we were, and we enjoyed hearing their comments. I only recall one negative remark, a very tall man thought that the range hood was too low. Regal Remodelers came through on schedule and on budget. At completion we were thrilled with the result. Twelve years later, we are still thrilled.
Description of Work: Our 1901 Victorian home needed a major update of the kitchen, pantry, and back entry. A one-storey addition had been added in 1921; it lacked a basement and was cold and drafty. The kitchen was updated about 1935. With the help of an architect, we explored the possibilities for this large space. On our architect’s advice, the space to be renovated was gutted to the 1901 studs. The 1921 addition was torn down and a new addition on the same footprint built with a full basement under it. Into that space was added a 3/4 bath, exercise room and storage. The back entry was relocated more conveniently to the garage with a vestibule, coat closet, and adjacent 1/2 bath. The addition also provided a dining area overlooking the back garden. The large kitchen retained its size and location, but with adequate cabinets and counter space and built-in appliances. A large central island houses a warming drawer, microwave, marble pastry board, and storage drawers. The top is one piece of soapstone. Similarly, the pantry was outfitted with new cabinets and a new German silver sink to replace the worn out 100-year old sink. Triple glazed windows were used throughout. All floors were tiled over infloor heat. With the kitchen and pantry gutted, the central air conditioning vents were extended. The architect was concerned that the newly renovated space integrate seamlessly with the old. High ceilings were retained. The old woodwork was saved so that modern millwork could duplicate the crown mouldings, door and window frames, and baseboard detail. We chose cabinets with inset doors and many with glass rather than solid wood panels. The cabinets were finished at the factory, and their stain was used to finish the trim so that it all matched. Early in this process while working with our architect, we selected cabinets and appliances, and these were not included in Regal’s estimate. Also, we contracted separately for decorating and landscaping.

We are very pleased with the final product. The project took approximately 5 days. The work crew were extremely professional and accommodating. Prep work and clean up were outstanding. As this was an exterior project, weather played a part. Most days the temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s, yet the crew worked full days and got the job done in a timely fashion. Would certainly recomment Mike and his group to others and will use again for future home improvement projects.

All went fine. for this small project, but I have known Mike Williams of Regal Remodeler's for the past 18 years. He has done many remodeling and building jobs for me. His expertise with Kitchens and Bathrooms is phenomenal. My bathroom is like a wonderful, sparkling retreat with gleaming fixtures, glowing ceramic tile on walls and floor. The 8 " hexagon cream colored floor tiles, with center details in white is very striking and coordinates perfectly with white cabinetry and woodwork. All this chosen and installed precisely to create a comfortable space. Kitchens are also one of his favorite rooms. whether working within the existing space to creatively make use of every inch, or adding on to expand and develop the perfectly functioning kitchen according to the clients needs and wants.. My own kitchen is small, and for me it is perfect. One unique feature is a 24 x 28 " cabinet recessed into the wall that provides 120 " of shallow space for all my spices, which I arrange in alphabetical order! A more ambitious project that Regal Remodelers did for me was the addition of a 16 x 20 ' sunroom to my two story house. It was ingeniously connected to the end of the house opposite the garage, and approximately the same size as the garage with a protico roof line running 72 ' across the entire front of the house to tie it all together, looking as though it was always a part of the original house. That is one of Regal Remodelers strong points, in that Mike wants any addition or remodel to seem as though it was always there. Another part of the sunroom addition included steel siding on the entire house, and the 12 x 20' utility building. also new roofing on both. This was a major job and all was done on time, and on budget to our complete satisfaction. As you can see, Regal Remodelers have done large and small jobs for me. Mike with his staff and workers are experts in their fields, and I can enthusiastically refer Regal Remodelers to anyone seeking a personable, friendly guy who wants only the best for his clients.

We chose Regal out of the three companies we interviewed because Mike really LISTENED to us, and we were not disappointed. Regal did everything on time and at or under budget. They saved the antique features we loved best, including the cast-iron sink (VERY heavy!) and the clock. When it turned out that leveling the floor put our back stoop out of code, they also built a 12x12 deck for a reasonable (extra) charge. Now, five years after the remodeling work was completed, we still love our "new" kitchen.
Description of Work: Our 105-year-old house had a kitchen that had last been remodeled in the 1950's, and still had its 1920's sink, cupboards, and (lack of) counters. We paid an outside architect to come up with a plan to bring it into the 2000's -- a plan that involved removing part of an outside wall and leveling what had formerly been a porch floor. Mike and his team took this plan, fleshed it out with specs (locally made quartz countertop and maple cabinets), and figured out how to fit everything in. They set up a "temporary" kitchen, complete with temporary sink and refrigerator, in our dining room. Then they gutted the kitchen down to its 1902 studs and spent a month building everything back up.

I expected the construction to be messy with cutting/removing the existing rock and demolition/removal of cabinets, but the construction area was kept clean each day for us to continue to make dinner without hassle. each day the results proved to us that the initial consultation matched the desired result. The workers were conscious of our existing woodwork that was directly adjacent, meaning the workers showed pride in their work. The work only took 4 days. Perfect timing because of our upcoming weekend party. Mike checked with us each day about the progress, which was really great and unexpected. Thanks Mike!!! We love our new counter top and cabinets!!! Perfect timing...the party was a hit!

It went very well overall. The roof works well, all of our roof related water issues appear resolved. They were very creative in solving the issue with the ridge vent, which took a lot of research. It is wonderful to not have to clean the gutters in the spring and fall. It all went according to schedule, with no problems. They cleaned everything up very nicely. The work crew was professional, polite and proficient. The estimate was accurate. We requested additional work (the gutters) after the initial bid, so a change order was created And they kept an eye out for any other problems that surfaced during the work (hence an additional charge for the chimney flashing. All told, we were very pleased with the quality of the work and the interaction with the work crew and the company. We have recommended Regal to others with no hesitation. And we hired them for additional work, which we will review separately.
Description of Work: Roof work. On the largest part of our roof (which is almost flat) rebuilt the roof with additional venting under the roof, additional insulation under the roof, and installed a large, single membrane to cover the entire roof. On the rest of our roof, tore off and re-installed asphalt shingles. Also solved a problem with a ridge vent that took water in high winds, re-flashed the chimney, and installed gutters with a gutter helmit, and installed new down spouts.

The work was very aesthetic and eliminated future maintence tasks for me. Mike Williams from Regal stood behind his companies work so well that I had to find him to bid on some remodeling work I had done 20+ yrs later.
Description of Work: Mike from Regal rebuilt the front porch of my large 1904 house restoring the original columns & railing (w/ lead abatement) along with covering my porch ceilings in aluminum along with my house trim (windows, soffit & fascia). The work has stood the test of time looking beautiful still today. A few pieces of this trim had come loose during storms over the years & Mike had it fixed asap. He stood behind his compnies work.

Our kitchen cabinet installation project went very well. From contacting Mike through completion of the project, we felt he did an excellent and professional job. His attention to detail was apparent. He was very helpful with suggestions such as design, types of wood, flow with the rest of the kitchen, etc. Not having much experience with kitchen designs, it was a relief to be able to work with someone who was so knowledgable and helpful. We would definitely have him back for other home remodel projects.

Mike and Bob were prompt and finished the job quickly. They provided excellent service and impeccable craftsmanship. I especially love my new lakefront windows. They are maintenance free and there is more glass for a better view outdoors!

We are very satisfied with the work that Regal completed. All Regal employees and subcontractors were very professional and provided a quality product. I would strongly recommend their services to anyone. They not only provided high-quality work but also made many suggestions for ways to improve on the overall look and functionality of the space. In the 4 months they were at our home there are only was only 1 instance where the work was not completed to our satisfaction and this was an aesthetic issue & not quality of work. Within 2 hours of contacting Mike, things were corrected to our satisfaction without a single question. They did a great job of leaving the job site clean. We received several bids on the work before hiring Regal. While they were not the least expensive, they were also not the most expensive. We chose to work with them because of the quality of their work and the professionalism of Mike.
Description of Work: Regal Designers provided complete services in finishing our basement, including design services, architectural drawings, electrical, plumbing, drywall, cabinet & tile installation and finish carpentry.

It was a huge hassel working with these guys from day 1. They were not aware of what needed to be done and when, and communication was horrible. I had to remind them to get the garage painted before it became too cold. I had requested they try to match the kitchen flooring to another room. When that pattern was not available, they were not going to ask what I wanted, they were just going to install something they thought was close enough. I chose the countertops I wanted (just laminate - nothing fancy) and they claimed they needed to up the price of the contract for them. I had to micromanage everything and the workmanship was poor all around. The sheetrocking of our kitchen walls was also poor and shows obvious defects. They left a huge pile of debris from the kitchen in the middle of our backyard for months (sink, wood, nails, pipes, etc.), and I had to hassle them to clean it up. We also found more debris in our basement after the job was finished.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodel: including cabinet install, vinyl floor, sheetrocking, plumbing. Also updated electric in the house and re-painted garage.

Response from Regal Remodelers Inc
IN RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS MADE ABOUT OUR COMPANY. WE HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME CONTACTING THIS CUSTOMER AND GETTING HER TO RETURN PHONE CALLS THROUGHOUT THIS PROJECT. A PROCEED ORDER WAS REQUIRED BEFORE WE COULD START THIS PROJECT AND THAT WAS NOT RECEIVED UNTIL THE FALL, WHICH RESULTED IN OUR RUNNING OUT OF TIME TO PAINT THE GARAGE. THE FLOOR PATTERN WAS THE ORIGINAL PATTERN WE WERE TO INSTALL AND WAS AGREED TO BY THE CUSTOMER. THE COUNTERTOP PRICE WAS INCREASED DUE TO THE CUSTOMER UPGRADING THE COUNTERTOP EDGES TO WOOD (THIS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE BASE PRICE). WE FLATLY REJECT THE CLAIM THAT SHE HAD TO MICROMANAGE THE PROJECT. WE ALSO DISAGREE WITH HER ASSESSMENT OF THE SHEET ROCK WORKMANSHIP. DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT SNOWED CONTINUOUSLY DURING THIS PROJECT, WE REMOVED DEBRIS AS WE WENT AND CAME BACK AFTER THE SNOW MELTED TO CLEAN UP ANY NAILS OR OTHER ITEMS LEFT.

SEVERAL SERVICE PEOPLE CAME OUT AGAIN, INCLUDING SOME FROM THE RETAIL STORE WHERE THESE WERE PURCHASED. THEY ARE NOW TELLING ME THAT THE HUMIDITY IN THE HOME IS THE PROBLEM, THAT I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH. I AM FED UP WITH DEALING WITH THIS, I WANT NEW WINDOWS, AND I HAVE ASKED FOR REPLACEMENTS. THERE IS JUST TOO MUCH DAMAGE AND HASSLE WITH THESE WINDOWS.
Description of Work: They installed 2 bay windows that didn't work. They came out for service multiple times, and haven't been able to fix the problems. The remodelers added supports for them, but they are still not working properly. It fixed some of the problems, but the windows are now damaged, with gouges and holes. Now they won't open. They came out and fixed that, and I said I wanted compensation. They promised me $400, but after that was started (not received) the windows stopped opening again.

Response from Regal Remodelers Inc
WE INSTALLED 2 CREST LINE BAY WINDOWS. PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS DEVELOPED DUE TO THE EXTREME ICE BUILDUP WHICH WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CUSTOMER OVER USED A HUMIDIFIER AND MAINTAINED A HUMIDITY LEVEL OF ABOVE 55%. THE WINDOW WAS SERVICED FOR A DEFECTIVE MECHANISM BUT THE ICE PROBLEM WILL REMAIN UNTIL THE CUSTOMER LOWERS THE HUMIDITY LEVEL.
