I liked that they were very responsive. I called on a Thursday and had the job scheduled for a Monday. He was able to find the specifics of my house and then handle the quote over the phone. The crew was always very prompt and courteous. All during this process Randy was very accessible and helpful. Even though his crew made about 5 trips out to my house Randy stuck to his original price. I even asked him about charging more and he said "no, this is what we do". I would not hesitate to use him again.
Description of Work: Randy installed a radon removal system for me. When he did the quote over the phone he thought this would be a simple job since I had a sump pump. My house was not simple and Randy installed a second suction pipe, this still did not bring my radon level down. Due to the fact I have a finished basement Randy then installed on different trips several temporary suction pipes so not to disturb the finished part of the basement. Randy found the solution to my problem and the radon is now at a safe level.

This is the second house I've asked Randy and his team to help with. I was very impressed with their quality, price, and results the last time; and no less so now. After discussing the pre-work test results with Randy, we decided on the steps that need to be taken, and even coordinated the color of the pipe going through the roof (He was aware of the building techniques my builder uses which contribute to the problem). We worked out all the details and Jason was able to come over within a couple of weeks. Jason was excellent and treated the install like he was doing it in his own house. All of his work was very neat and clean. The post mitigation test results came back at 0.7pCi/L, which is just a little bit more than what's in open air (and way down from the 11pCi/L we had tested before the work). Given a choice of radon mitigation contractors, I would hire these guys in a heartbeat; and will do so again if we ever get to a third house.

We remodeled our house. Following Minnesota Greenstar checklist, we tested for Radon. It measured high, 6+ something (a little surprising, when we originally moved in, that reading was just above 4, and I had meant to retest sooner than we did). We choose Randy based on our builder's recommendation. System worked fine, retest was <1 PC/l (.8 I think). System was installed in a new construction basement addition, so his price may have reflected some work that was already done for him. After about a month, we noticed excessive fan noise. Randy's crew came over and fixed the problem. Either it was a fan that went bad or the exhaust PVC vent got pushed down during construction. In any case Randy didn't charge for the repair. BTW, if you are doing a Greenstar remodel, request the use of non-PVC pipe.
Description of Work: Radon mitigation system: - PVC roof exhaust. - Fan assembly in attic. - Hole in basement floor, PVC connecting to new drain tile.

Randy Weestrand, Radon Removal owner, estimated our job at 11 man-hours after a 40 min. phone interview. Although the job went over the estimate, he honored the original price. The job was successfully completed in spite of hidden irregularities in the construction of our townhouse. All changes were briefed & approved prior to the work; all construction debris was cleaned up, & we were thoroughly briefed on the completed system, including a post-installation test. Radon readings before the installation were as high as 15.8 pCi/l; post-installation readings are .7 & 1.2 pCi/l.
Description of Work: Dean & Jason, very neat & agreeable guys, arrived on time on a very cold, snowy day. After surveying the job, they sealed the sump basket & installed a fan to decrease the ambient pressure under both the basement & an additional below-grade area. The job included installing an exhaust fan in the attic with an outlet in an inconspicuous area of the roof, both of which involved work in bitterly cold temperatures.

In general, we had a good experience with this company. A year ago we had them come to do the work and they tried very hard to be accommodating about our desire to put the pipe in an existing chimney. In the end we could not run the pipe that way without changing the water heater, which we wanted to think about. They were here 2-3 hours and left without a decision or any sort of payment. Almost a year later (due to travel), we decided to run the pipe according to their original recommendation. They were able to come about a week after we contacted them and were on time the day of the appointment. The work was well done, neat and professional, except for one mishap. They accidentally drilled a 1" hole in our bathroom ceiling. They patched the hole, but we did not have any matching touch up paint for the bathroom, so the mark is still visible. They took responsibility for their mistake and tried their best to fix it with the materials at hand.
Description of Work: Installed pipe from under foundation in basement, up through two floors, and out the roof to vent radon. Fan was installed in crawl space under roof on top level. 4" pipe was run through furnace room, closet, and crawl space. Fan is guaranteed for 5 years. Roof seal is guaranteed for 15 years.

Dean and Larry are great guys to work with. Very clean and tidy and good at explaining what they are doing, both as they do the work, and a good overall explanation at the end. For the work they had to do, they were as unobtrusive as was possible, given they were drilling through concrete, installing PVC pipes and fans through the attic and on the roof. My only disappointment is that I think they might have done more than was necessary. We discovered the radon as a result of selling our home and the relo buyer required a radon test. An outside firm came and put one canister in our basement. We flunked that reading and enlisted Radon Removal to fix the problem. Once they were finished installing the ventilation system, they left a carbon canister in the basement where the original reading was done and then left a second canister in the bedrooms on the main floor. We flunked the bedroom canister test by 1/10 of a point and had to put in a second ventilation system costing $1,450.

This company is very busy and very disorganized. They need an office manager to keep track of their customers. In my opinon, it doesn't matter how good you are if your customer service is spotty and it takes forever for you to get out and do the work.
Description of Work: I called Radon Removal to schedule a time for someone to come out and give me a quote. It took them two days to call me back. hen they did, they went through a lengthy phone q&a, and when it became obvious that they would need to come to the house to do the estimate because of unusual circumstances, they said they would probably be out the next day or two. They never called or came. Two weeks later, I called and asked if they were still planning on coming, and was told they had been very busy, but they would be in touch again. Not holding my breath.

The workmen were on time, worked steadily all day (I'm not sure they even took a break!), cleaned up well and explained everything they were doing. They were polite and careful of keeping things tidy as they worked. They also gave detailed instructions on how the system works and answered all my questions. The system works very well, and has lowered the radon concentration in the basement to 1.8 pCi/l from 5.4, well below the recommended safety level of 4.0 pCi/l or less.
Description of Work: Installation of a sub-slab depressurization system in the basement, venting it to the garage with PVC pipe and connecting it to a vent fan in the garage out to the roof, and covering a large crawl space under an addition with radon-impervious vinyl.

The Radon Removal Inc. crew arrived right on time. They promptly went to work, looking for the best location for the fan to be placed. The original estimate of time was 4-5 hours however, they ran into a problem finding the correct positioning for the fan since my home has an unusual concrete foundation. They diligently worked until they were finished at no additional cost. The estimate given was $1,470.00 and that was the price I paid. The crew was very friendly, informative, and cleaned up well before leaving. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to have a radon reduction system installed. I am very pleased with their work and my experience with this company.
Description of Work: A radon ventilation system was installed in my basement. They first drilled holes to locate the proper locations for the fan to be located and then installed PVC piping and a fan through the attic to vent the radon from under the foundation. A drain pipe was also installed since the location of the piping would have caused a backup of condensation to occur.

RANDY PUT IN THE SYSTEM A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO. WHEN WE WERE REMODELING I CONTACTED HIM ABOUT MOVING THE VENT. HE RETURNED MY CALL PROMPTLY. HE WAS HONEST ABOUT HOW SWAMPED HE WAS AND THAT IT WOULD BE A MONTH OR MORE BEFORE HE COULD DO THE WORK. HE SUGGESTED THAT OUR PLUMBER DO THE WORK AND CONTACT HIM FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO REVENT THE REMOVAL SYSTEM. I PASSED RANDY'S NUMBER ON TO THE PLUMBER AND IT ALL GOT TAKEN CARE OF. RANDY IS A NICE GUY AND VERY PROFESSIONAL. I APPRECIATED HIS GENEROSITY IN HAVING PHONE CONTACT WITH OUR PLUMBER DURING A REALLY BUSY TIME.

RANDY WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH. WE HAVE A FINISHED BASEMENT THAT WAS SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO INSTALL THE MITIGATION SYSTEM INTO, BUT HE DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB! COSMETICALLY, YOU CAN'T SEE THE SYSTEM, UNLESS YOU GO INTO THE FURNACE ROOM OR GARAGE AND EVEN THEN YOU DON'T NOTICE IT. THE JOB RANDY DID ON OUR HOUSE TOOK HIM ALL DAY BECAUSE OF THE COMPLEXITY OF OUR SETUP, YET YOU HARDLY KNEW HE WAS HERE AND HE DIDN'T CHARGE US EXTRA FOR HIS MANY HOURS OF HARD WORK. HE CLEANED UP AFTER HIMSELF AND DIDN'T LEAVE US WITH A MESS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM FOR THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS.
