It was a good experience working with with this company. I found the sale rep informative and easy to talk with. Everything was explained simply and effectively. No sales pressure was applied and they were the only company out of 3 that I felt was unbiased in giving me their viewpoints. The installlation went according to plan and everything was up and running by the end of the day. They explained how to run the units and it easily passed the city inspection.

Standard only does the a/c and furnace tune up, not duct cleaning. It would have cost $195 plus tax, which included a 2nd visit in 6 months for a safety check. She said they were filling up fast, and she couldn't guarantee they'd be available when I needed them (early June) if I didn't make an appt soon. I decided to go with a company that does duct cleaning as well--for one-stop shopping.

Arla, the salesperson, came to give an estimate on a new furnace. She was prompt, professional and helpful. She explained how 3 stage furnaces work by sketching out the air flow on paper. She went through the house and examined the entire cycle of air and showed us what everything does and potential issues. She even found that a PVC pipe had been dislodged causing CO to potentially leak into the house. We decided to go with another company to install our new furnace because they offered a better price with additional services included.

I called Standard Heating & Air Conditioning at 4:00 in the afternoon, when everyone else was having their stuff freeze up as well. They had someone out to my place by 6:00. They stayed and fixed the problem for me, because I didn't have any renters in the home. I went home and he was going to call me when he was done. My cell phone stopped working, and he couldn't get ahold of me. He made the decision to replace the thermal couple, instead of leaving because he couldn't get ahold of me. They were absolutely wonderful! The prices were pretty comparable. The other place I called was about $50.00 more than the other company. They were very nice. Before I decided to have them come out, they answered all of my questions without any meanings of doing the work.

We chose this company due to their good Angie's list ratings. The initial salesman was professional and helpful. The actual installation was incompetent and error ridden. - Day one- the heat pump and furnace were installed. - We immediately tried out the cooling system on our new heat pump. After about two hours, I went downstairs and found a large puddle of water spreading on the basement floor. We called Standard, and were assured that someone would be out the next business day to check over the whole installation and fix the water flowing over the basement floor problem. - The day someone was scheduled to come out, my husband took off work (used 4 hours of PTO). No one showed up. No one called or left a message to let him know what was going on. - My husband called, rescheduled the appointment, and this time someone did show up. The guy had no idea that we'd called the office about water pouring over the basement floor. He was a little dismissive about our description of the problem, then went downstairs to turn on the cooling system of the heat pump and check things out for himself. About half an hour later, I overheard him in a rather frantic cell phone conversation- "There's water all over the floor! I don't know where it's coming from!" He eventually figured out the problem- a piece of tubing was too short. Presumably he checked over the rest of the installation as he was supposed to have done. - A few days later we tried out the heat pump's heating system. No heat. We called the office again; the office staffer stated that it was likely user error, but sent someone out to check it. - The technician showed up, and again had no clue that we'd called the office about a problem with the heating system. He found a problem with the circuit, fixed it, and now, many phone calls and visits later, the system seems to run. - Now I have noticed that the vent piping running outside seems to have a poor sealant around the gap between the pipe and the wall. The pipe is just a piece of pipe with no cover or vent to prevent rain/ snow from running in. It looks as though they may have misinstalled part of the venting, but I haven't had them out to look at it again. - I'm quite nervous about how things will work once we actually use the heat pump to cool or heat our house. I will update this post if we have any more problems or if Standard turns around and becomes helpful in making sure we don't have any more issues.

I called to follow up with the member regarding any installation concerns they might have existing. I spoke with the member and offered to come out and look over any remaining issues with there heating and cooling system. The member was not familiar with any existing issues and did not feel it was necessary to come out at this time. I asked the member to please call us if we could be of service in the future and to share our conversation with his wife. Scott Pearson Sales Manager

The technician diagnosed the problem promptly, pointed out that the motor went out because I had not been routinely cleaning the core, ordered the part in my presence. He stated that only he could install the part and that he could not make the follow up appointment until the part arrived. He stated that the office would call me to schedule that appointment as soon as the box hit their loading dock. He gave me an estimated time of arrival which transpired without a call. When I called, they claimed it had "just arrived", but their next available appointment with that tech was a week and a half later. Appointment was made, the item installed and functional. Time from initial visit to final installation: 14 days.

Our sales rep, Chris, was very knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. When he initially came out to our house, he spent a couple of hours with us looking at our setup and educating us on how furnaces work. In addition to replacing an old furnace, the goal of our project was to be able to remove the existing flue that ran through our kitchen. In order to do this, we had to replace our furnace AND water heater. The cost of a power vent water heater was beyond our budget, and Chris suggested we move to electric. He was up front about the additional costs to operate. None of the other companies we called gave us any creative suggestions. Standard ended up having the most competitive price, and they installed the furnace within 2 days of us signing the papers. They also took care of the water heater for us by bringing in Norblum. We are very happy with our experience!

Standard installed a new AC unit in early 2008. It was about $3000. Included in the installation was a coupon for a free furnace tune up. Since we don't use the furnace in the summer we waited until the fall to have it tuned up. On 9/5/08, a technician tuned up our furnace. According to the receipt, he did clean the flame sensor. On 3/5/09 our furnace stopped working. The burners would not stay lit. We called early in the morning and they scheduled a visit for that afternoon. The technician arrived right on time. He determined that the flame sensor was dirty and cleaned it. The furnace now worked fine. The total charge was $149. ($99 service charge + $50 cleaning fee). My problem is that we had never had the sensor cleaned before in the 6 years we have lived here. If it was cleaned on 9/5/08, would it really need cleaning again on 3/5/09? I called a supervisor on 3/6/09. He said while it is rare, it has been known to happen. I called two other furnace shops and they disagreed. I sent an email to them on 3/9/09 explaining my disappointment with the service call. I have yet to receive a reply (today is 3/31/09). Personally, I don't think it was very professional to charge $150 for a service that was apparently done just 6 months earlier, especially since we spent so much money getting a new AC unit. There were no parts replaced on our furnace. We were very pleased with the sales and installation process of the new AC. I am not pleased with the result of this service call. Overall I would recommend them simply because of the great experience we had with them with the new AC but I can't say I give them a 100% endorsement.

The price of the motor was double the price of other motors because of the model of our furnace and no fault of the company. They were very easy to work with, and punctual. They even gave me a call 30-45 mins before they showed up so that I could be there from work. We had to postpone the work for over a month, because were out of town. They followed up after we were back to get the work done.

The repair person informed us our heat pump was failing and worked some magic to get us some heat as it was the coldest day of the year. He also informed us we were eligible for a sizeable rebate because of a class action suit regarding our old furnace. The estimator came out that evening and the next day our new furnace went in. Everything was seemlessly coordinated. The crew was wonderful. We had one issue with not getting enough heat to a far end of the house which is due to poor ductwork installed during an addition. Standard sent a person out right away to install a damper to help boost airflow. Our house no longer seems drafty and we can have a conversation when the furnace is running. :O} I highly recommend Standard Heating. Every person we have dealt with has been professional, cheerful and thorough.
Description of Work: Standard Heating installed a new 2 stage high-efficiency furnace. They had done our air conditioner last summer. We got several bids last summer and Standard offered the best product for the best price at that time. They truly impressed us. Responded quickly to a request for quote, and to determine the best option to meet our needs as part of a larger remodeling project. The sales rep.(Dennis)came out promptly and reviewed our situation. There were many considerations and options. Of the 5 contractors consulted, Dennis was the most knowledgeable. He answered all my questions, discussed various options and made a recommendation. He was the only one to provide a written quote before he left, and it included everything. The quote was the lowest price and provided the best warranty, for the same furnace, as 2 other quotes. The only reason we did not use Standard is, we used a contractor who could do all of the work we wanted done. In the future when we need to change the air conditioning, Standard will be the first one I will call.

Our furnace blew out when it was 20 below outside in January and Standard was able to come and fix the motor that morning which was great. The fix went well. We did have another company that was also ready and willing to come see the problem that day but decided to go with Standard because we were assured we would be able to put $500.00 from this repair towards a new furnace. We know we have to purchase a new furnace since ours is 15+ years old and this was the second expensive repair just this season. Kelly came to give us an estimate on a new furnace. She was professional and prompt and really understood her product. She spent nearly 3 hours at our house which we felt was way too long to get to the bottom line. Most of it was spent trying to get us to buy a heat pump which we are not interested in at this time or for this house. We have small children who had to eat dinner out in the living room because we were listening to her pitch in the kitchen. We did agree to sign a contract for service with Standard but made a change on the back of the contract stating that we had 10 days to annul it instead of the usual 3 business days. We wanted to listen to other quotes and also get our financing figured out. Kelly made it seem as if we had to sign this contract or we wouldn't get our price locked in. She was rather pushy honestly. We were shocked and amazed when we heard a quote from another company for the exact same product. A company that also has stellar ratings with coupons here on Angies List. A company that also has been in the business for years just like Standard. When I called Kelly to tell her she was willing to match prices although reluctant and somewhat upset with me for looking elsewhere at first. I said I thought she should match plus give us $500.00 as we were told we would get for a new furnace on the day of the repair. She was unwilling to do this. And she seemed a little upset with me since she had spent so much time at my house which is totally ridiculous. The conversation got a little heated between us and I decided midway through that if this was the way the sales rep acted then i really don't want anything else to do with these guys no matter what. I really think Standard needs to stop telling people that they will give them $500.00 towards a new furnace with any major repair as the savings do not add up at all if you price match with other comparable and equally high quality compaines. In the end we really feel duped by that $500.00 off offer as we might have had someone else come out and look at that furnace that day. We will be taking our HVAC business elsewhere in the future.

Let me tell you up front. I did extensive homework beforehand to help my probabilities that I could find a competent HVAC company to replace our furnace & AC including Angie's List. I'm sorry & kind of embarrassed to say that even that wasn't enough to keep me from falling into the typical incompetent contractor abyss. Do not, I say again, do not use Standard Heating for your install. My install occurred December 4th, '08 which resulted in the heat pump being incorrectly wired in & thus didn't work. Called Standard Heating to come fix it, resulting in the need for our electric company to come out to fix it. Still to this day, February 10th, '09, and after 2 service calls on it, the heat pump is totally out of service & has been from day 1. Also, at the time of signing the contract, it was made clear that Standard Heating takes care of all the rebates which of course got "misplaced." Was supposed to have the rebates, $650, within 6 weeks, it's been 9 & still don't have them. This is a company that charges more upfront for their services than most other companies, citing they can provide better quality service than the others. I can confirm first hand, their service is absolutely no better than the others & such, don't pay for it! A technician was out last Thursday attempting to fix the problem again, only to say he didn't have the equipment to do a thorough check on it, so another tech that does have the proper equipment would give me a call ASAP. Today is Tuesday of the next week, & hadn't heard from them at all. So I called them myself to see what was going on, & they said the temperature needs to be above 40 degrees for the other tech to come out. It was 46 yesterday & still hadn't got a call. Seriously, for the amount of money that is invested here, I would not risk using this company again. No how, no way. After seeing how their service is for equipment that's not working, I'm very thankful the new furnace is working fine or I'd be in a world of hurt. As long as the equipment isn't working properly, I'll keep posting updates to the matter.
Description of Work: Installed new heat pump/ac & replaced the furnace.
