Overall so far I am very pleased with the service Standard Heating & Air provided as well as the Bryant furnace. (I have yet to test the AC since this was a late fall installation) My townhome has a rather small utility closet, and part of my objectives with the equipment replacement is to improve air filtration due to allergies. Open space in front of the unit was very limited for removing a 4" filter sliding horizontally, so a filter drop boot was the only solution. As much as we tried, a Honeywell 5000 electronic filter would not fit. Standard Heating was flexible enough to create a custom boot to contain slots for either a 4" filter, or standard 1" filter. I want to be able to use commonly found filters, and since many HVAC complain about air movement though 3M Filtrete filters, I had them design the boot for Honeywell's 4" filter for allergies and the 1" slot as a backup. Another design objective I had was quiet operation of the outside AC unit. Living in a townhome community, my next door neighbors like to sleep with their windows open. However I am completely the opposite and prefer them closed with AC on. Standard Heating and another major Bryant installer were my top 2 contenders for the job, but only Standard Heating would install Bryant's 186B quiet AC unit. With logistical limitations in my townhome, getting an additional wire between the AC unit and the furnace to set up a communicating system as part of the Evolution system was not possible. But the Evolution thermostat can handle a non-communicating AC unit so it was installed as such. Unfortunately do to my townhome's configuration and HVAC equipment location, going with a high efficiency furnace with the direct venting was not a practical option. Sales representative Jeff Taylor was very helpful and provided additional technical resources to help workout my installation logistical issues before the job started. On the installation day, the crews appeared on time and took good care in not leaving any messes, and laying drop cloth on the floor from the utility room. The new equipment was replaced within a day and my Aprilaire humidifier was reinstalled. Due to space limitations with larger air return ducting, they needed to get creative reinstalling the humidifier and was able to fit it in. When it came time to install the Honeywell filter, it would not fit. The regular 4" filter they brought with them would also hardly fit and the installers acknowledged something was not right. Turns out the filter boot was not fabricated with enough space for the 4" filter (they are actually about 4 1/2" thick). They fabricated and installed a new replacement boot to my great satisfaction. Along with their installation, they installed a larger main air return duct into the filter boot and furnace to maximize airflow and efficiency. So far this winter, with the -20 temps, the system has had no troubles keeping up with the heat demands, and warming up the home from the 5 degree daytime setback is not a problem. The Evolution thermostat knows how long it takes to warm up the space, along with a variable speed furnace blower, it takes little time to get the home up to temperature and is at the desired temperature when I returned home. My old system would still be struggling to get up to temperature. Gas use as far as I can tell is slightly reduced considering I am running my occupied temperature about 2-3 degrees warmer than previously, and we have been having a cooler December since last year. Come summer, will have to see how well the AC performs. Overall rating is A, with the B in Quality for not getting the filter boot size correct the first time, and the mounting spot for the humidifier could have been in a little better place for easier access. The B for Price was due to Standard Heating was not listed as a participating dealer in Bryant's rebate program, though their quote was competitive relative to other Bryant quotes received.

I noticed my furnace was not running as it should and called Standard Heating & Air Conditioning. After assessing the problem I was told I needed a new furnace. An appointment was made during that visit for Ben to come to my home to discuss options. Ben was very helpful in explaining my options, taking into consideration the considerable tax break I could get if everything was installed by the end of the year. My air conditioner and water heater were also in need of replacement so I decided to have them all installed at the same time. I was able to schedule an installation date within the next week or so. On the day of the installation, Thomas was right on time and started working immediately. The work was finished ahead of schedule and Thomas explained everything I needed to know about the new furnace, air conditioner, and thermostat. Standard Heating & Air Conditioning also set up the installation of the water heater with a company they contract with to do their plumbing work. Overall, I had an excellent experience with Standard Heating. Setting up appointments was effortless and Ben was very responsive to any questions I had. Everyone was very professional and respectful. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to others.

Woke up the day after Christmas ( a Sunday) with no heat. Called Standard at about 8:00 a.m. and was told someone could be at our home between noon and 1:00 p.m. Our tech arrived around 11:00, at least an hour early, and had the furnace running within minutes--the fresh air intake to the combustion chamber had been about 50% obstructed by a small amount of debris. He cleaned it out and checked to make sure everything was in order. The only charge was an emergency trip charge of $200. While not cheap, it wasn't outrageous either.

There were no problems getting an estimate and the sales person was very comprehensive and took the time to measure the rooms in my home to decide the correct furnace size. I do my research and days later I send him about 10 questions by email for him to answer. He never answered, but called to find out if I had made up my mind and to let me know that he does not have time to answer these questions. He was pushy and actually gave me a cut-off date by when I needed to make my decision. Obviously, after that, I could not have this company install my furnace.

I highly recommend you shop around. Standard Heating is VERY EXPENSIVE for repair work. My furnace was not working due to a bad heat exchanger. The good news is that the part was covered under warranty. The bad news is that labor was not. They quoted me $1040 for the labor to replace the part. Then they told me it was a 3-4 hour job. I did the math and it came to $260 - $350 per hour for labor!!!! I said "Wow, $260 per hour seems like a lot for labor." (Apparently Standard Heating sends their attorneys out to do the work.) The rep said, "No, the $1040 is a flat rate. We don't use hourly rates." I said, "But for 3-4 hours of work, $1040 seems like a lot!" He said, "We are always checking local prices and we're always very competitive." Well, I found another Angie's List provider that did the work in 3-4 hours for under $400! So, now I have an extra $640 in my pocket.

The quote given over the phone was a worst case scenario. We informed the customer that we could give him an exact price once we inspected the furnace. We do use an "up-front" pricing model, or as some would call it, a "flat-rate" pricing model. Our prices are very competitive and we do not charge $260/hr.

"Standard" doesn't do this company justice. "Awesome" heating & A/C makes way more sense! I was very happy with every step of the process, from Chris's initial visit and inspection to very end of the install a couple weeks after. Saving energy and making my house efficient as possible is very important to me. I had lot of questions at the beginning and everything was explained to me very well. I learned a lot and was able to make an educated decision.

The gentleman that came out was very nice and knowledgable. He put "booties" over his shoes right after coming in the door as to not make a mess going downstairs, which I respected. He did an overall inspection on my 20+yr old furnace and explained things to me as he was doing it. He also didn't appear to mind that I was asking him questions during his inspection. He went above and beyond in answering them for me. Will definately call Standard again in the furure.

Ripped off. I am the property owner and the tenant agreed to pay with my money. That's between us. Standard heating charged 199 dollars for emergency service at 9 pm. Took 20 minutes to repair. Didn't have the right part so did a work around. Will come back with correct part. Charged 250 dollars for a 50 dollar part. You do the math. They are thieves after dark. Don't call them for emergency service. I recomend White Bear Lake heating. He's a genuine guy and won't rip you off like STANDARD. Too bad there are people like this in business who take advandage of people with a problem outside their normal bankers hours. Actually, I wouldn't call them any time of day. You can't judge an outfit by the name.

We use up-front pricing to ensure our customers are aware of all the charges before we perform any work. We also inform our customers that repairs cost more if completed on emergency service because our costs are more. We have very competitive prices on our service call fees and repairs. Since we did not have the correct part at the time of the repair, we did a temporary repair to get your tenant heat, and then returned at a later date with the correct part at no additional cost to you.

The field repair person was great all around. Professional, efficient, knowledgeable etc... However, I was profoundly annoyed with the central office/appointment setters. The first person took information from me that they did not relay to the repair person and promised (and failed) to ask the field person call me when they were on their way since I work nearby. They failed to mention a secondary problem with the chimney, so the poor repair person wound up crawling up onto my rather drastically sloped roof without a hook ladder along. All of which I found tremendously frustrating. A second point of frustration was that I had clearly stated that I knew what was wrong and I had all of the part #'s and measurments on the needed part, but instead of taking that information and having that part on the truck with the repair person so this could be resolved in one visit, the person taking the information declined to take that info. The field person said that information might not have been enough information to get the part but I am unconvinced since I did not see him write down any information other than the info we already had written out for him. So I feel like everyone's time was wasted (and I had to take time off from work twice) for very little reason. The person who scheduled the second appointment did an acceptable job although there was very little that needed to be said at that point. All in all, I am very happy with the repair and field service, but quite irritated with the appointment setting part of the process.

All aspects of this project were very professional-from sales through installation. There was no "upselling". Everyone came on time and did what they said would. They agreed to reinstall both the electronic air cleaner and humidifier with no problem . Installation staff were excellent; friendly, knowledgeable and clearly took pride in their work. The out of pocket price was 30% lower than two competitors (I believe the latter relied on tax credits to increase their margin). I am very pleased and I could not have asked for a better experience.

I have an old house & old furnace and no central air..... I obtained 2-4 quotes. I did my home work, check with Angie's list and the B.B.B. I seen a flyer from Standard heating & air and was very happy with the written information that the sales consultant (Kelly R.) left with me to review. She also answered all my questions and was straight forward, left me with phone # and let me know she was available for further questions... The install of both unints & electrical was installed in one day. The crew was very respectful of property and they asked me about placement of outside vent and placement of a/c unit. Everything was cleaned up and units in working order before they left. The A/C was making a loud noise the next day, I called the service # and it was proptly taken care of, it was just the out side cage of a/c that was off kilter...... This was a huge investment for me and I was a bit scared to make the decision to spend the money; but so far, so good.....
Description of Work: My old furnace was taken out and replaced with new York. The required permits were pulled from my city. The new furnace was connected to existing ductwork & gas & chimney. A new chimney cap was also placed. The hot water heater was re-vented, and a new thermostate wired. Also, my home has it's first central a/c..... New GFI outlet, new lineset, condensaat hose, condenste pump & slab, PVC venting. electrical connections, drilled holes for the unit and venting.

Paul very closely reviewed the A/C system and troubleshooted the problem. He noted it would be cheaper to have the A/C and furnace "tuned up" than to just work on the A/C alone, and so provided full tune up for both systems. He was also incredibly helpful with features of my furnace I wasn't aware of, helping to cool and heat my house more efficiently. Excellent service! Will definitely utilize Standard Heating and A/C in the future for other needs!

They were very helpful. They are very courteous and they rely on satisfied customers for positive referrals. They are very contentious about what Angie's List can do for their business and they always want satisfied people. The person who came out showed me how another company offering the same product was not giving me all of the items necessary for my furnace to function. One item was a thermostat and I was very happy she showed me these items and I do not have any complaints about the furnace. The furnace would not have functioned fully and correctly without the thermostat coming with it.

Be ready for the hard sell. They are very impressive with their knowledge and step-by-step process to make sure you have the right equipment. However, we decided to go with a company that was based in our hometown since their quote was pretty much the same as the company we decided to go with. The representative who came to our home to give us a quote called a couple times, which was fine, to see where we were in our decision process and if we had any questions. Everything is top notch about this company, unless you decide not to go with them. In our final phone conversation the representative said he couldn't understand why we would make such a decision and I quote, "I could be putting my home and family at risk if I go with the other guy." The whole conversation was like a child throwing a temper tantrum who wouldn't take no for an answer.

Our compressor failed and we called Standard out to see what was wrong. The fuses for the compressor had blown. The technician advised us that the unit was approximately 25 years old and that it was likely we would start seeing more blown fuses given the age of the unit and the hot weather. We decided to replace the unit. We got three quotes and decided to go with Standard for the new unit as well. The salesman carefully explained the different options we could go with. They applied the cost of the service call to the final invoice, which did influence who we chose to go with. Another factor in out decision was their ability to supply a unit that qualified for a $300 rebate from Excel Energy. Once we signed the contract, they installed the unit four days later. The installer arrived on time first thing in the morning and was able to finish the installation by early afternoon. The installer was tidy and cleaned up very well. One quirk was that the installer suddenly demanded to be paid in the middle of the work. Perhaps he was worried that my wife needed to go to a meeting for a short period at that time, but it did come off a bit strange at the time. There was a complication. The weather was cooler on the day the unit was installed. A couple of days later, when the temperature was warmer, the compressor would run a few minutes and then shutdown. We called and left a message for them in the evening and I received a call back before 8 am the next morning. I arranged to meet the repairman that afternoon. It turned out that too much refrigerant had been put in during the original work and when the weather turned warmer, a safety switch would turn the compressor off. The serviceman corrected this condition and checked the overall health of the system once more. They were responsive in coming to correct the issue very quickly, but it was inconvenient to have to leave work early. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work done and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: They replaced the compressor and coils of our air conditioner. This included replacing the refrigerant line between the coils and the compressor and attaching those to the basement ceiling. A previous company (unknown to us) had not done this correctly.

Excellent service. The tech said I probably need a whole new AC unit in a few years, but said topping off the freon was probably my best bet now. He gave me some options to chose from including doing nothing which was great because I felt like I had a good range of options. No pressure to chose any of the options, which is also great. I highly recommend these guys and will use in the future.
Description of Work: My central air conditioner wasn't cooling the house down as well so I decided to have someone come take a look at it. The technician came out and gave me a bunch of options to fix the problem. He ended up topping off my freon and said I would get about another 2 years out of my aging system. The only other option was to replace the whole system. The tech said that was probably not economical at this point.

It was an excellent service experience!
Description of Work: Furnace blower was making very loud noise after the AC had been running for a long period of time. Tech spent close to 45 minutes trouble-shooting my furnace, blower, and AC unit. Determined that not enough air was moving through the system because I had too many vents closed on the main floor of the house. He opened a few main floor vents, increased the air flow, and explained to me in understandable detail what he thought was happening and why. Because there was no actual system fault or repair needed, he didn't charge me a thing! (note, the furnace was purchased from Standard Heating and Cooling two years prior). What an honest, helpful service visit! (ps - my blower has not made the noise since!)

Very well. Some initial delay in response from sales after we chose the furnace. Weather turned hot, John (sales) seemed to get busy and it took the better part of a week to nail things down. With that said, we were extremely happy with the price (factoring in the fed rebate). John filled out the rebate forms for CenterPoint and informed us of the fed rebate process. Very competent folks handling the install. Somewhat of a last minute push by installer to replace AC (which we could not afford at this time) but, overall, we were impressed with the whole process and highly recommend Standard.

The person I spoke to on the phone wouldn't make an appointment, but told me someone would call me back and setup an appointment. However, I never received a call- apparently they don't want my business. The other places I called (Residential and Air Mechanical) setup an appointment immediately when I called.
Description of Work: Requested bid for A/C install.

I got 3 estimates. They were the cheapest. They did a fantastic job. Professional, cleaned up when they finished, very friendly, very efficient.
