Very prompt service, response time and professional. In the end, they replaced the system which was on warranty and got it up and running. Greg also called back several times to make sure it was working properly. We are thinking of getting a new furnace, and we would definitely us Standard again.
Description of Work: We returned from vacation and found that our central air conditioner was not working. I called the Standard on a Saturday morning and they had a service technician here by noon. He was very thorough but didn't had to order parts to do the repair. On Monday morning at 8 am I got a call from Standard, and they sent Greg to fix the system. He spent about three hours at our home and the system was repaired and working.

I requested bids from 3 companies. One only spent 5-10 minutes in our driveway and gave me a quote (the highest of the three). The other two went through every room and had the same recommendations. The two bids were fairly close in price. The deciding factor is that Standard replaced the line set (included in their bid) and the other company was going to look at that if we had problems. The installer was punctual and worked steadily. The job took several hours longer than what I was told, but the installer said he ran into some issues with fitting it to existing furnace and duct work. He ended up needing to reroute some of it. For the cold air return, he suggested one location and I asked him about another possibility that wouldn't interfere with storage of a ping-pong table. He agreed that the other location was suitable. The space for that ductwork was limited--he did a really nice job fitting it into a tight space. Adding the cold air return to the basement allows for better air circulation. We don't have a musty smell anymore. I gave QUALITY a rating of N/A because it is new and works fine--as it should. The clean up by the installer was very good. He laid rug runners down the stairs and on his walkway to the furnace area. All old parts were carried out and hauled away. Except for the shiny new sheet metal and new drainage hose, you wouldn't know anyone had been working there all day.
Description of Work: We had a Bryant 3-ton air conditioner and new thermostat installed (replacing an existing one) and a cold air return added to the basement. The line set was replaced for the needs of Puron.

My home air conditioning system was blowing hot air when I called Standard Heating and AC for help. My call was made during a run of incredibly hot and humid weather and they were able to send a technician to my home in just a few days. The repair guy quickly diagnosed the cause of the problem -- apparently the original AC install (5 years ago) had been botched. Standard's technician removed two partial kinks in the copper line set and replaced and resoldered in new fittings. My AC unit had also been losing freon for a few years and a leak check with a freon sniffer was performed. The system was restored to fully functional status and I am satisifed with the work performed. He did find a small leak in the coil, but as the system was only short just a tiny amount of freon he advised waiting to see how the system performed over the summer before deciding if we needed to replace the coil. Standard's overall customer service was excellent. Their technican was curteous and professional, and he did a wonderful job of communicating the problem he discovered and the repairs that were necessary. He wore shoe covers when he entered my home and was very tolerant of the barking dogs and small children in residence. Standard Heating seems to be the gold standard in the crowded Twin Cities HVAC repair/install field and their prices reflect this premium status. $750 for 2 and a half hours of work and a pair of copper fittings is pretty steep. The freon leak check of the coil was $300 of that. It was all disclosed up front and I would use this firm again.
Description of Work: Diagnose a problem with a central air unit that was not cooling. Replace kinks in the copper line set. Leak test the system.

They arrived when they said they would, did the work quickly and took the time to explain everything to me after he was done. We had called 3 companies to compare costs and service times. They were able to come next day (vs. 4 days out for another company) and were $400 less than the other company that could come at the same time. Very pleased with this company and I'd hire them again.

The technician arrived on time, was very polite and nice and after opening the electricity box realized that the AC was switched off. There was indeed work done on the siding of the house and the siding people must have forgotten to switch it back on from the outside box. I was thrilled that there was no problem with the AC. the technician offered to check the air filter and replaced the old filter with a surplus filter I owned. He also decided to check the freon. I also asked his opinion about split duct AC systems, and he answered my question. All in all, his visit lasted 15 minutes and there was no repair performed because the AC was just switched off. I was very happy that he fixed the problem and the AC was working, but was pretty shocked by the price, $195. He told me that $99 is just for the call, however I would have thought that this should include some minimum work time. In conclusion, my experience was OK, but overpriced.
Description of Work: I called this company because my AC did not start working the first time I turned it on this summer. After a cold period, there was a sudden heat wave with temperatures projected in the mid nineties. All the AC repair services were very busy, and Standard Heating was the company that had the first available repair technician, two days after my call, the other companies could book me even later.

During all of our repair calls, we use up-front pricing and quote for repairs beyond the service call fee, before performing the work. In this case, we did not explain the additional $96 cost the customer incurred. We spoke with our technician, and made sure this doesn't happen again. Although the customer did not ask for a refund, we have refunded the additional cost she incurred.

They were nice guys, but they did mediocre work for this project. They were brand new to doing boilers. There were problems along the way, but were able to fix it. They didn't seem that they had adequate staff to repair the boiler when it shut down. They did put in an air conditioner about 10 years ago, and they did a great job with that. I would use them again for air conditioning, but not for boiler work.

Member, I want to first thank you for trusting us to install your new boiler in December 2009 and your A/C unit back in 2001 . Although we have been installing boilers for a number of years we continue to train our staff on the latest technology. I am happy to hear that we did resolved any issues regarding your new boiler. You can continue to count on us for 100% customer satisfaction. Sales Manager, Scott Pearson

They were super fast, and helped me get all the coupons and rebates applied no problem. I feel like I got a good price for the work. Punctual, polite, informative, I would use them again!
Description of Work: I'd been having trouble with my AC unit for the last couple of years, it was installed incorrectly and it was draining condensate onto and into the furnace, subsequently causing problems during heating season as well. Standard came out last winter and identified the problem, fixed the furnace and told me to call them to address the AC issue come cooling season. Sure enough, the AC was draining all over everything in the utility room when I turned it on, so I had them come out and give me an estimate. They tried to come up with retrofit options, but due to the poor installation and access, and overall age of the condenser unit, the best choice was to install a new system.

We have worked with Standard Heating ever since they put in our furnace and air conditioner over 9 years ago. Nathan was on time and was very professional . He checked the air conditioner outside and also checked the thermostat inside the house. He added more Puron and even cleaned inside and outside the air conditioner. What a great service person and what a great company. We will continue doing business with them for the quality service and professionalism.

Two technicians arrived within the time frame I was given, and they called when they were on the way. They did a thorough job of checking and tuning up my furnace and central air conditioning unit. When I asked them to look at my Aprilaire humidifier because it wasn't working properly, they adjusted it for me at no additional charge. They worked quickly and efficiently, and I owe them a big THANK YOU because they notified me that they had detected the odor of gas in the laundry room. I called the gas company immediately, and it turns out that the shut off valve to my gas stove was leaking. I am fortunate that this minor leak was discovered and repaired before it became a major problem.
Description of Work: Standard Heating and Air Conditioning performed a thorough safety check and tune-up of my furnace and central air conditioner. They changed the air filter and humidifier filter, cleaned the coils on the air conditioner, and recharged the coolant.

By far exceeded my expectaions! Had an 8-12am time window and he showed up right at 8am. Was very polite and put on booties before leaving the entry way. Went out of his way by explaining in detail everything he was doing and changed our humidifier filter for the furnace when he came out to perform AC work. He left me much more informed about our system than I was prior to his arrival. Definately having him come back this fall to perform a furnace inspection! A+ all around!

In August 2010 you had us out to estimate the replacement of your attic fan coil (cooling system). We are proven experts when it comes to difficult installation. As much as we would like to satisfy your immediate needs, we also try not to send our installers into an unconditioned attic (120+ degrees) in the hottest part of the summer. Our goal is to always make every attempt to satisfy our customers needs as long as our employee's are protected. If you have not replaced your fan coil system we would be happy to re-assess your installation, please call me personally at 612-436-2360. Best regards, Scott Pearson Sales Manager

I called the company just as they opened in the morning, at 7:00 am, to tell them I needed someone to come out as soon as possible because our thermostat was registering 56 degrees. A repairman was there 7:45 am. I was told upfront that the fee for a service call was $99. It was fairly quickly determined that there was a faulty limit switch. A dirty furnace filter caused the furnace to overheat and trip the switch but it stayed on instead of resetting itself when I changed the filter. A new switch was located in the truck and immediately installed. The switch cost $156.00. I also had a $15 coupon from using Angie's List, which was happily honored. The repairman was friendly, he put coverings on his shoes so as not to track in the house and he explained the problem in detail to me so I could understand what caused it. He also recommended a different filter that would not restrict the air flow or cause too much dust to get through. Good to know!

We've been doing business with this company since they installed a new furnace for us 19 years ago. We have them out each year to do tune-ups on our furnace and AC unit. We've always been pleased with the professionalism of their techs and their sales staff. When a significant problem was discovered with our furnace, both the tech and the sales rep were informative about our options, and not at all pushy in helping us determine that the best solution was a new unit. The installation was scheduled promptly, and went smoothly. As long as they continue doing business as they have for the past 19 years, we are likely to continue as customers for as long as we live in their service area.

Overall the experience went very good, would not hesitate to call or recommend them to anyone. I must say i was a little surprised the serviceman would not accept their coupon because there were no parts replaced. Oh well, it was working and that is what mattered.
Description of Work: Had a tune-up scheduled for Feb.22. There seemed to be a problem with the furnace on Friday nite the 20th. Called Standard early on Sat. morning (5:00am) and talked to a service man on the phone. Seemed to be better. About 8:30 am it started to act up again so called Standard. They said they could have someone out by 1:00pm. Service man arrived about 11:00am and knew within minutes of hearing furnace run what was wrong. Within 30 minutes furnace was fixed and he was on his way. The problem was a plugged water line from the furnace. Very neat and professional. When all was said and done he told me to call and cancel the tune-up as I no longer needed to have it done.

There was always confusion about where the vents were to be located and since a plan was not mapped out on paper, there was no record to refer back to. Our recollection of the locations was constantly different which resulted in many conflicts which were only able to be resolved by my husband as no matter how I approached him, the installer would neither listen or even try any idea that I had. My husband would approach the installer that evening after work or the next morning with the same idea(s) and he willingly tried them. EACH time, our suggestions worked out to our advantage, especially regarding running the ductwork to the second floor. We were always curious why the installer had to be basically forced to try these options and didn't think or at least explore these options himself. In one instance, the ductwork was able to be taken upstairs in an unused laundry shoot instead of being taken up in a clothes closet which would have caused loss of coveted closet space. My husband had to convince him to try the laundry shoot option and it worked great. The loss of hanging space in the closet would have been about 8-12 inches on both an upper and lower hanging rack. The pipe I believe is 6", but you have to allow for inches from the wall, etc. Also, during one of the initial visits to discuss the plan, one of the supervisors would not even look me in the eye and was very condescending if he even answered any of my questions. Upon asking how the ductwork would run in one location and what direction, etc., he responded without even looking at me "it doesn't matter". I replied in a nice tone that it did matter as this was part of our living space and he completely ignored me. We would have cancelled at that point; however, it was quickly approaching winter, I had been out of town for three weeke due to a family medical emergency and could not finalize it any sooner, so we felt like we should stick with them just to get it done before winter unfortunately. While if you do look in our basement, the ductwork does look neat and tidy; however, if we had it to do over, and had, had more time before winter, we would not have gone with Standard. We did have one issue with the furnace about 3 weeks after installation. The drain tubing was not working correctly and they did have service out promptly which we greatly appreciated. The service technicians were great, professional, and very helpful. They were able to fix the issue quickly as they had the necessary part on their truck. No complaint at all on this service call.

The technician tracked down the noise problem to being the igniter or possibly the burner for the loud noises (with the panel off, you could tell it was taking too long to light and extra gas buildup was causing the popping noise). They also diagnosed the shut off as being a thermostat problem. He gave me the option of buying a replacement thermostat from them if I wished, or replacing it on my own (which I opted for since I'm familiar with that). I have a wireless thermostat and he tracked down problems with what is most likely the receiver not properly sending information to the furnace controller. He gave me detailed information that I could use to troubleshoot this. I've also had other work done by Standard in the past (a blower motor replaced and a whole-house humidifier installed, as well as a yearly smart plan contract that gets my furnace inspected). I've always felt that they've tried to go the route that makes the most sense, not just the one that makes them the most money. I've also found all the different technicians to be very knowledgeable and professional.

They were stupendous. They were really good. We have a boiler so they had to actually put in duct work. We didn't have any duct work in the house. They were very prompt, clean and clever with their design. They cleaned up after themselves. The job didn?t take forever. They got it done very quickly.
