We called Standard Heating to make an appointment for an air conditioner tune-up and also to look at our basement heating system to see if it should be replaced. We were surprised and happy to get an appointment 2 hours later. Mike came and did the air conditioner tune-up which went quickly and smoothly. Then he looked at the heating unit on our basement family room which is an old commercial radiator with a fan (blower) on it. I doesn't heat the area very well and the fan is quite noisy. We asked him what our options would be for replacing it. He was able to get the front panel off (which no one else had been able to do) and oiled the fan and looked everything over. Our only option was to replace it with another large radiator but probably with the same results. As he looked at it we could tell he really knew what he was doing. We were very impressed. Mike was friendly, professional, careful while in our home, and knew his business. Thanks!
Description of Work: Performed tune-up on air conditioner. Also, looked at very old and unusual heating system in the basement family room. We are trying to decide if it is best to keep it or replace it.

Techs did not install something correctly on system which caused inspector to deny permit on initial inspection They addressed the mistake quickly. We did not get our $250 rebate from xcel When I called in January 2014 they could not find paper work Stoll they sent me check for amount out of their own funds Robin was first-rate salesperson! Of three different sales people from other firms only he adequately addressed our problem with heating part of our new addition. His solution was effective and not costly He also came on with crew to personally attend to repair some old baseboard He was a salesperson who had done installations in past, so he knew his stuff better than others He also did not push us to buy a more expensive 91percent boiler which was not needed for our situation Robin is a first-class person.

It's working great. We had no idea how inefficient our old furnace has gotten until we got this new one, and even with the cold or winter this year, our gas fill is considerably down. It's more efficient. It's been great and they did a good job in the installation and getting everything taken care of. I've been very pleased with them. The final billing was not quite that much because there were rebates from the power company and stuff that we got, so there was a $200 off from the price or maybe more.

I?m not sure where things fell apart but I am very disappointed with the service with received with Standard. My husband and I called Standard for the first time on Wed March 26th at 7am because our furnace had stopped working. Paul came promptly and confirmed that our blower was indeed going out. We discussed the options and costs of fixing the furnace versus replacing it. My husband and I decided we would replace our 18 year old inefficient furnace. Paul got our blower running again so we would not have to pay for a new one. He said if the blower stopped again to just call him. Paul was professional and thorough. He also helped us schedule an appointment with a sales member for the next day at 2:30pm. I was surprised that we would not be able to meet with anyone until the next day but figured it would be ok since Paul had gotten the blower running. When I arrived home from work at 4pm, the furnace had stopped again. I tried to get the blower running again like Paul had shown me but had no luck. I called Standard (which I regretted and wished I had just called Paul directly) to see if someone could come out and fix the blower. Ashley answered the phone at Standard. I explained the situation and what Paul had told me about calling him if the furnace stopped working again. Ashley informed me that Paul was done for the day but could come out the next morning. I asked if anyone else could come so we would have heat over night. Ashley said no because they didn?t have Paul?s notes. I explained that it was just the blower that needed fixing. Ashley again said that someone could come in the morning. At this point I was becoming very frustrated at the lack of service and understanding from Ashley. It was not a subzero day but it was still cold enough that we needed heat in our old home. When the furnace stopped working the previous night our inside temp had dropped to 50 degrees. I explained to Ashley that Paul said we could call him and said that I would just go ahead and do that so I didn?t have to spend another night in the cold. Paul did come out and fix our blower that evening. Rick came the next day at 2:30pm He was also profession and thorough. After assessing the house and getting our must haves, he suggested two different furnaces. My husband and I took the night to think about what we wanted to do. I emailed Rick on Friday morning at 9:20am to say we?d go with the York and asked that it would be installed on the following Tues because this was best for my husband?s schedule. On Thurs Rick said it was the slow season right now for Standard and made it seem that the following week wouldn't be a problem. At this point, both my husband and I had taken time away from work to have the furnace looked at initially and then to meet with Rick. Rick notified us at 3:30pm on Friday March 28th that he was starting the paperwork and would try to hold a spot for Tuesday. We did not receive the paperwork from Rick until 7:35 on Friday. At this time it was too late for us to print and fax because both my husband and I were already home from work for the weekend (we don't have a printer or fax at home). I sent the signed contract as soon as I could on Monday morning (7:23am) March 31. At 11:02am, Rick emailed to say the install department was booked for the entire week. At this point we were very discouraged because it is not easy for either of us to get any time off from work - especially paid time off. We set up the appointment for Wed April 9th. In the meantime, I had to call to have the blower that was replaced looked at because the fan would not stop running - even when we turned it off on our thermostat. Someone came out from Standard to fix it which was greatly appreciated but this was now the 3rd time we had to miss work. The last piece of communication we received from Standard was on March 31, when Rick replied to an email stating that, "I will lock next Wednesday, April 9 in for you! Thank you again for choosing Standard!" We never heard what time someone from Standard would be at the house for the install nor how long it would take. My husband ended up missing (another) almost a full day of work for this install. My husband then called to let me know one of us would need to be at the house the following day for the electrical part of the install (which meant more time off from work). None of this was ever explained to us. Both my husband and I are completely disappointed and frustrated with the lack of communication, professionalism, service and respect we have received from Standard. I wish we could have shopped around but we were already committed to Standard when our blower was replaced for $500. I will not be recommending the company on Angie's list nor to any of my friends.

The tech ran the checks on the furnace and found everything working well. I asked about a door to the high efficiency filter. It seemed to fit too loosely. The tech agreed and called in for the part to be ordered. We put in the furnace in 2010. Standard Heating did the work. I had checked and got bids from 3 or 4 companies. I also researched equipment. We chose Satndard because of their reviews, the price estimate and the long warranty the Company offers (beyond the Manufacturer's). We have had them also do yearly maintenance. The maintenance has cost more than some I've seen advertised. On the other hand, they have replaced a major part under warranty (covering parts & labor) at their suggestion and now are replacing another part under warranty. I have been highly impressed with the salesman (Mike), the techs and the service & treatment we have received all along the way.

I scheduled an appointment on a weekday between 2 and 5 pm. The technician arrived promptly at 2:00, actually before I even got home, and was ready to go when I got there. He got to looking at my humidifier immediately and was quickly able to diagnose the problem. The particular offer I purchased was for the service call only, not for parts and labor for any repairs that needed to be done, but I decided to have him fix the problem anyway. He had all the tools and parts he needed to implement the fix, and completed the work in probably about a half hour. I really don't have a good idea if the cost of the repair was reasonable or not, but it was nice to not have to worry about it anymore. One thing that did bother me a little bit was that after finishing the repairs, which simply involved replacing the transformer that supplies power to the humidistat, the technician believed that my humidistat was still functioning incorrectly and told me that I would probably need to get it replaced at some point. He quoted me a couple options, and being that all of them were a bit more than I was wanting to spend at the time, I passed. After he left, I started playing around with the humidistat a bit, and it seemed to work just fine. Apparently, the technician had looked at a number of humidistats that were the same model as mine, exhibiting the same "problem", and he thought mine was doing the same thing. I believe had we just waited a bit longer to make a determination as to whether or not the unit was functioning, he wouldn't have come to the conclusion that it wasn't. It's been about a month now since the service call, and the humidistat still seems to be functioning properly. The technician didn't pressure me into buying a new humidistat from him or anything, so I'm not really bothered by that, it's just that it seemed he jumped to a conclusion about the unit a bit early that could have cost me unnecessarily had I decided to replace the humidistat.
Description of Work: Came out and looked at my furnace humidifier to determine why it wasn't working and what, if anything, needed to be fixed/replaced.

We would recommend then. They did a fantastic job explaining the issue, providing a reasonable quote and getting the problem fixed quickly. They were able to use a warranty through the manufacturer to cover the cost of the one repair, so our only out of pocket fees were for the conduit line replacement. They ordered the parts and came back a few weeks later to fix both the lines and the secondary at the same time. Great service and very professional.
Description of Work: The technician came out to tune up our furnace. We had standing water in the basin which required replacement of the conduit lines. In addition, our secondary unit failed inspection and required replacement. They were able to get us a warranty through the furnace manufacturer to cover the cost, which meant, a not cost replacement for us of the secondary unit.

We found out that our furnace (which was 30 yrs old) had a few cracked heat exchangers and needed replacing. Based on Angies List reviews, Standard Heating was the first call I made for a quote. I was impressed with the sales guy. He showed 3 options of furnaces, from their basic to most efficient. No high pressure sales and I didn't have to make a decision right away. I called him the next day and admited that I was torn between getting the most expensive 90+ % efficient model (Bryant), or the one in the middle, which I believe was 80% efficient. He actually talked me into the 80% one, which saved me money, rather than try to upsell me on the more efficient model. He assured me it would be a huge step up from what we had and more than enough to cover our heating needs. (BTW, I took them up on the 0% financing offer and will have it paid off -- interest free -- by end of May!) So, that was a good experience. Shortly afterward, they came to install the new furnace. I was very impressed with the installer and felt that he did not cut any corners, when he possibly could've. For example, we already had a cold air intake for our humidifier and he could've used the same intake, but he didn't feel the diameter was large enough, so put in a brand new one and secured it very well where it needed it. He also installed all new vents connecting to the furnace rather than try to reuse the old ones. They removed our old furnace and any old vents and swept the floor. He showed me how to operate it, how the pilot works, etc. On the side of my new furnace (down by the blower) is a rack where the manual is stored. I'm happy to report that the city inspector just came last week to inspect it and it passed with no problem. So, I will definitely call Standard for anything I need in the future.

I experienced a little sticker shock at the $350 price of the part, particularly when I later found it online for $150. However, even though I fancy myself as a home handyman, there was no way for me to diagnose what was wrong. I joined Angie's List in order to find someone to take care of the problem, and Standard Heating was a good choice. Other than yearly maintenance on this boiler, the sparker was the first part we've ever replaced - which speaks well for Burnham boilers. The technician did thorough system check, explained what he was doing while I hovered over him, and even bled the radiators. They threw in a Angie's List discount that was worth about 8% of the total bill, which was nice.
Description of Work: Standard heating responded within a day to my request for help with our 25 year old Burnham boiler. The problem was quickly diagnosed as a faulty Intermittent Pilot Ignition Module, aka "sparker."
