Our boiler went out the night before Christmas Eve. I called at 11:30 PM and the phone was answered. I didn't need emergency repair as we made do with space heaters for the night but set an appointment for the next morning. The repair man/owner showed up on time and was very informative. The problem was discovered in 5 minutes, but a part was needed. He was able to locate the part, a glow plug, and returned later in the day to finish the repair. Overall a good experience and I would recommend them.

Once Mark isolated the problem as being the thermostat control, he went online to access the factory manual and got the reprogramming done in short order.
Description of Work: Our furnace humidifier was not activating while the furnace was running. Mark researched how to program the control thermostat (we did not have the factory manual available) and got our issue resolved.

I placed a call that my furnace wasn't working & an appointment was scheduled for the next day. I cancelled because the furnace seems to be turning on, but when it didn't stay on I called again. Kathleen who schedules appointments was charming! We had a nice chat & Mark came the next day (Friday). He needed to get a part & would have returned again the same day to finish the job. I told him that wasn't necessary & he came early on Monday instead.
Description of Work: My furnace wasn't working. The blower would turn on, but not stay on, or not respond at all. Mark rediagnosed the problem as a faulty circuit board, replaced it & all is well! Service was prompt & professional.

One observation (and I can't tell if its a positive or negative!!) -- try not to be so obvious that you are a little annoyed at having to work on the weekend. I understand absolutely where you're coming from -- you had your dad (father in law? uncle? friend?) with you and this service call probably interrupted a great saturday morning for you both. I think it definitely fits in with your overall demeanor (no salesman-yness, never got any sense that you would upsell me on anything ever!) so in the end I think of it as a positive. Just be careful in the future and try and shield that sentiment a little more -- you never know when a small job can lead to referrals to large projects for neighbors!
Description of Work: Turned on furnace for the first time this season, noticed that the flames never came on in the viewing window. Did my own diagnostics (cycled power to board, gas valve off and back on, no luck). Called up All Mechanical and they were able to come out within 2 hours to take a look. Weekend service charge is an additional $50 for labor which they mentioned on the phone Tech power cycled the board again, and wiggled all the connections. There was no sign of water damage to the board, though there was a ton of dust in there that was vacuumed up. And then the d*** thing decided to light and work properly. Hilarious. Still don't know what went wrong. Tech cycled power multiple times, did not fail again. $175 for wiggling wires seemed a little on the expensive side (135 for 1 hr labor, 40 for trip charge), but on the other hand, I understand that weekend time is valuable to everybody, and just like for all tradesmen, it's hard to maintain your business without a service charge. And they spelled this out for me on the phone beforehand so it was perfectly fair game. Neither of us could have predicted it would be this easy. Hopefully if it fails again within a week or two they might waive the trip charge ;)

He just adjusted his schedule and came to your home within an hour or so. Mark treats every service call as an opportunity to fix whatever is needed and provide clients helpful information in the process. He truly enjoys his work and may be a bit perplexed until he determines all the fators involved. I think his intense concentration on your furnace was misinterpreted as one of annoyance. Mark forgot to apply your Angie's List discount of $5. I sent a refund check that afternoon with our thank you letter and list of helpful home maintenance tips. We definitely stand behind our work. If you experience the same problem, we will come out ASAP and only charge you for any parts that are needed. , Mark's friend Dave visits us on Saturdays. Kathleen provided a quick response to my phone call and set up a time when she and Mark could come and look at the a/c unit. They removed it from the wall, diagnosed the problem, left the area clean, and made arrangements for when they could return to replace the faulty part. They kept me posted with phone calls and replaced the part in a timely manner. Both were professional and friendly and I would certainly use them again.

I think the intake person was exceptional, the AC was fixed quickly. The repair person didn't seem all that thrilled to be there, but I could understand that. A for fixing and timeliness and accommodation. Minor minor quips with professionalism and price. And the price quip comes from someone who only just had his AC serviced this one time. I would call them again.
Description of Work: My AC was not producing any cold air and my A coil in my basement not draining properly. The intake person, I forgot her name, was uber accommodating. I would say she went out of her way in a big old fashioned way to get me serviced that day and that is why an A was given. Servicer fixed my outside issue, cleaning of AC unit, loose valves and a pound (I think) of coolant. He saw that my drain from the A coil was flowing again, so did not check that. I would of liked that to of been checked for the $180. My AC is working and I am pleased. I thought the price was high for 30 min of work, but that may be the going rate. The servicer was not all that thrilled to be out there, but then again he probably had been working on ACs in the 100 degree heat for days.

The heat and humidity, despite tons of water and breaks out of the sun, took its toll. You were spot on with this observation. I will remind Mark to remain pleasant and engaging even though he is beat from the heat. I provide each client phone triage in the hopes of saving them a service call. Many times that does work. When a call is needed, I let clients know of our prices. II apologize if I erred and failed to provide you that information. We charge a flat, minimum fee that includes the trip charge and hour of labor. We do not charge a fee to come to your home, a fee to diagnose and a fee to get to work. We just get to work. Mark is very skilled and experienced. At times he may complete the job in less than an hour. I regret that he did not ask you if you wanted to the A coil checked. Because he saw everything was working fine, he moved on to the final testing. In the future, we will offer clients that option. Your bill included 2 pounds of the newer freon which is a bit more expensive than its predecessor. I have checked competitors' prices in the past and have found ours to be in the low to middle range. Absolutely great. Kathleen was very helpful, and what's better, clear about the chances for same day service. So while the appoinment was made for the following day Mark was still able to come out and make the necessary repairs on the same day. Hands down this is the best experience I've ever had with HVAC service of any nature.

I called Kathleen to set up an appointment to repair a central AC unit in my duplex. She asked me questions to troubleshoot the problem to avoid the cost of the service call if it were just a problem with breakers or fuses or a switch turned off or a problem with the thermostat. Kathleen obviously knows a lot about the business to do such a great job of troubleshooting. Many companies seem happier to take your money for the call and will do no troubleshooting at all. I was encouraged to select a time the following day that was earlier than my tenant preferred in order to allow plenty of time in the day in case a part was needed and to allow co-owner, Mark to beat the worst of pre-holiday rush hour with traffic heading North for the long weekend. I worked out the request with my tenant and confirmed with Kathleen that the time would work fine. Mark showed up early, just after a call I received from Kathleen to say he would arrive shortly and what vehicle to look for. Within a very short time he had diagnosed the problem as one of low refrigerant. There was a metal valve cap missing for a year or more that caused the loss of refrigerant. Unfortunately, the cap apparently cannot be replaced. Mark was given the OK to add what was needed, and he checked that the AC was delivering cool air once more. I have used All Mechanical Services once before and once again they delivered efficient, gracious service. Kathleen and Mark are a real treasure and really care about giving the finest service possible. I'd like to see them continue to make a good living at this, but I worry if I say how truly great they are, next time I need them, maybe they'll be booked so far out ahead that I won't be able to get an appointment.

On Friday evening, the 4th of July weekend, my central A/C stopped cooling. Not only was it one of those horribly hot, humid, stormy days, it was a holiday weekend and I was expecting a long wait to get someone out to do the repair. I called All Mechanical about 7:00 PM and Kathleen said Mark was out on another call but should be finished there in about an hour and would be able to make it to my house after he finished that appointment. Within the hour, Kathleen called back and said they were on their way to my house but were wondering what the weather was in my location. They were in their truck in the middle of a thunderstorm and were just checking to see if the storm had made it to my area yet. I could see lightening off in the distance so we rescheduled for first thing the following morning. (Good thing, too, since the storm hit about 10 minutes after our phone conversation.) The following morning, Kathleen called to tell me Mark was on his way to my house. He showed up, quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem.

My air conditioner went out. I called several companies, but this was the only one that tried to diagnose my problem over the phone. They also were upfront with how their charges work, where other companies only mentioned extra charges if I asked. They found the problem immediately. One part had stopped working and they replaced it.

Their service was fantastic. I called several places that were highly rated on Angie's List. All Mechanical had the soonest availability (same day) and quoted a lower price structure (ie lower trip charge, hourly charge, etc...) They were very good at updating me on when they'd be out - they gave me a two hour window and told me they'd call an hour before they came out to give me a specific time, which they did. Mark arrived, and quickly figured out that the problem was a blown capacitor. He replaced it and the A/C was back to working. From the time he showed up until the time I wrote him a check was probably only 10 minutes or so. I couldn't have been happier with their service.

Thank goodness for Mark and Kathleen! I recently had an alarm system equipped with a remotely accessible thermostat installed in my new house. The alarm company sent a contractor to wire the thermostat for an additional $200 installation charge. After the installation, the temperature in my house quickly rose to almost 80F, and I called All Mechanical Services in desperation. They scheduled Mark to come by the same day. When he arrived, he discovered that the “electrician” had wired the entire system incorrectly—from the furnace to the thermostat itself—and the furnace was just blowing recycled air through the house. In under 30 minutes (and for half the price of the initial installation), Mark had my air conditioner rewired and running perfectly. He even checked the coolant level before he left. I will definitely call them again for future air conditioning and furnace repairs.

Another great experience. This is the 2nd time we've used this company (previously for boiler repair last year). Our air conditioner, although working, was not cooling and I guessed we might need some freon added since this was done last in June, 2008. I called on Wednesday, spoke to Kathleen, and we scheduled an appointment for the next day. The total cost was $155 (they even honored a $20 coupon that had expired 8 days earlier). As a comparison Ben Franklin plumbing charged me $258 for the same work 3 years ago and that was adding only 1 pound of freon (compared to the 2 pounds of freon that was added on this service call)! I'll never use Ben Franklin again as they're extremely over priced, All Mechanical responds promptly, Mark "knows his stuff" and their pricing is so very fair. Also I have never encountered a better communicator than Kathleen who handles the phone work, scheduling, billings and books. She's as good in her role as her husband, Mark is in his. It looks like we'll be needing a new pump for our boiler system come fall and I'll be sure to contact All Mechanical again for their services.

We had a slight timing mix-up, but Kathleen responded quickly and Mark was out within 30 minutes. Mark arrived and got right to work removing the humidifier unit. He also check the operation of the furnance and did some minor preventative maintenance. Everything went well.

Mark and Kathleen to the rescue! Our 4 year old central A/C unit was not working when we turned it on for the first time of the season. Called All Mechanical and Kathleen was on the case. She helped troubleshoot and then Mark called us that evening to do more trouble shooting to determine if a service call was needed. It was! Mark was extremely thorough and showed us how to clean the A/C unit and what he was doing/checking every step of the way. It was determined that a part had to be ordered but Mark and Kathleen kept us in the loop. Kathleen called the next day when Mark found the part. Mark was over that afternoon and put in the new part. It was as if our A/C unit was brand new. All this was done with the eye on the fact that our first 90 degree day was coming soon. Thank you, Mark and Kathleen! Great job and we really appreciate it!
Description of Work: Examined outdoor A/C unit, added freon, checked levels and parts. Checked parts attached to furnace. Order new parts. Replaced old part with new. Added freon and completed all checks on the A/C unit.

Yay! Our issue resolved immediately, affordably, with professional & friendly service! We've been experiencing heating issues all winter. We deduced that it was most likely a damper problem and possibly a filter. When we first called Mark and Kathleen (based on their high Angie's List rating) they were so helpful in listening to our concerns. They also suggested we try to contact the person/company who put in the furnace as they felt it should still be under warranty. Unable to reach that individual we called Kathleen back and Mark came out the next day. He was prompt, professional and resolved our issue immediately! We are thrilled and VERY happy with the awesome service! For the first time all winter our family actually got to enjoy Friday movie night without hats and 5 quilts (not exaggerating) on top of us. We'd recommend them to everyone!
Description of Work: Heating distribution repaired - two dampers fixed, one damper motor replaced, and the filter replaced.

Stop searching! If you need a furnace repaired, call Mark and Kathleen now. Mark has the experience and skill you need, their prices are much better than others, and he's right on time. When I called, Mark knew exactly what my furnace was. In fact, when I was reading him the model number, he corrected me when I read an "8" when it was actually a "0". I described the symptoms and he diagnosed the problem over the phone perfectly. He was able to come out the next morning and arrived at exactly the time he said he'd be there. He had all the parts he needed and 4 hours later my house was heating up again. Mark's not much of a talker, but his wife, Kathleen, is friendly enough for the both of them. My quote from Standard Heating was over $1000! Mark's bill was under 400!
Description of Work: My furnace stopped working because the heat exchanger went bad. Mark came out to the house the next morning with a new heat exchanger and replaced it. Total work time was 4 hours.

Absolutely a fantastic experience and we were so very very grateful for the immediate response to our early early morning call. Mark was efficient honest and clearly knew what he was doing. He went the extra mile to get the part ordered and in the cities very quickly so the furnace was fully repaired. Honestly I intended to file the report early and totally forgot until my children reminded me of last Christmas morning
Description of Work: This report is long overdue as last Christmas morning we woke up to absolutely no heat ... after checking Angie's list we called Mark who quickly called us back and came out Christmas morning , checked the furnace -- repaired what he could that day and got the heat working. He told us we needed a small piece, got it ordered Christmas day and came back two day later to install it.

Excellent. Furnace broke down in the snowstorm of the decade with 15 inches of blowing snow on the weekend of course. I called and Kathleen answered the phone and stated once they were plowed out, Mark would be over to take a look. He was able to fix it right away. Excellent service, they called to let us know when he would arrive and called to update when he was 10 minutes away. Very nice company to do business with and I will call them again!
