They are a local store.  The service is pretty good.  We are happy with just about everything.

Countertop and Backsplash Service

Ordered the counter tops in May. They were delivered to our site approx 8/1/13. Installation was the next day. Upon receiving the tops I opened the packages and found 2 of the long pieces severely bowed. Called the provider about this. They were to check with manufacturer. Manufacturer (according to F. T. C., they said slight bowing was normal). Installer showed up next day (by himself). Was told there would be 2 people. I had to help him handle the large pieces as there was no way  he could do it himself. Install went as usual with the normal sanding  to fit tops to the walls. The problem was the seam between 2 pieces. With the bow he was unable to align the seam properly. On top of this he used elastomeric type glue on the seam. This is somewhat like a silicone when cured and does not hold rigid like a regular wood glue. Factory rep. was called out to look at install. He said the tops were shipped in spring when we had lots of rain and humidity was high, causing bowing. On top of this tops were stored in an unconditioned warehouse space. Factory rep also said the installer should have used a gorilla glue on seam (hard curing). The tops had large angles cut (clips) on 3 corners. There were supposed to be small angles cut on 3 others but was missed. Mistake by factory or provider. We did miss 1 install date earlier (scheduled vacation) and took a long time to find another installer. The provider (FTC) would like to blame me on the long time it took to get installed for bowing. We ended up settling for $2400 on this job. I would have rather went to court and let a judge decide this but my spouse wanted it over. I offered to settle for a 50% discount but FTC said it wasn't going to happen. Now I am going to try to brace this seam from the bottom to hopefully align the seam somewhat better. I am very disappointed in this whole ordeal. Definitely would not go back or recommend this business to anyone. They want to make you believe they are concerned and want a good review but was poor communication about this problem. And here is another unbelievable thing. The owner of Floor to Ceiling said he was going to send me a 1099 (tax) for the unpaid balance. He wanted our social security  number. Apparently my spouse gave hers as I just walked out of the store. Now to pay taxes on that unless my tax adviser says to dispute it.
