We did some planing and drew up some preliminary plans . We put down a $3000 deposit to get things going and proceeded into getting prices . Unfortunately our circumstances changed and we were unable to proceed with the remodel at that time. We waited for a period of time ( approx. 1yr ) until we felt ready to remodel . In the meantime we found a different contractor that better fit our design ideas and style . We moved a head with the new remodel and requested a refund of a portion of our deposit from SDI . I contacted Michele Byers from SDI requesting a partial refund. Her reply was that they had used our deposit and more during our planning and that she didn't want to bill us due to our particular problems. I asked he for an itemized bill for the work they had done and that I felt there was no where near $3000 worth planing provided . I got no response after numerous e-mails and phone calls . To this day she still has not responded to our requests. I felt we were dealing with a reputable company and had a good relationship with Michele and the owner Ron. However , they didn't meet our design ideas and didn't seem to understand where we want to go with our remodel . I feel they took advantage of the situation and used excuses to keep a portion of our deposit. I would stay away from this remodeling company and would not recommend there services . We trusted them and feel they swindled us out of a portion of our deposit and refused to justify that decision .
Description of Work: the company and us explored remodeling our existing home to include planning and doing the actual work.

Three years ago, SDI did a complete remodel of our house; including new kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, mud room, laundry room and a beautiful screened porch and deck. The only area of the house they did not redo was the basement. They finished on-time, on-budget, and gave us a more beautiful and functional home than we thought possible within our budget. What surprised us even more than on-time/on-budget, was how much fun we had. Everyone at SDI is very professional and easy to work with. We didn't even consider hiring anyone else now that we have begun the process of a major basement renovation. We were thrilled with the experience the first time around and with their subsequent willingness to help us maintain our home post-remodel. We are more than happy working with SDI, once again. This current phase, completed in late February 2011, included adding an egress window and bathroom to the basement, and working to improve the issues we had with moisture, air quality and overall comfort. Ron and Michelle, and the entire SDI crew are master problem solvers! We are continually impressed with their knowledge, experience and creative solutions. For the first time in the 14 years we have lived in this house, our basement smells good and feels dry! The egress window lets in lots of natural light and the new bathroom is beautiful. The most impressive part of this project was that SDI was able to see possibilities that we could not. Now that we have the functionality of a dry basement with natural light and a great bathroom, we are excited to continue with planning a family entertainment room with bar, game area, home theater - and lots of storage. SDI has been flexible working with us on a multi-phased plan that allows us to proceed as we are able to afford to do so.
Description of Work: SDI helped us solve our moisture and air quality issues in the basement, add an egress window for safety and natural light, and add a new bathroom. Old sheet rock, carpet and wood was removed to discover any hidden issues with mold and water. Spray foam insulation was added to the exterior walls. The sump pump was replaced with a more reliable system and moved to a utility room to free-up space in the living area. Air flow was improved with new duct work Electrical and plumbing upgraded. SDI found a way to fit a large full-bath without losing lots of usable storage and living space. The addition of the egress window in just the right spot avoided costly changes to utilities and maximized the window size - making the whole basement seem larger and brighter without that dark window-well feel. Plans have been drawn to create a fun family entertainment space and add additional storage.

It was difficult to work with them. There were a lot of things that they said they could do that they did not fulfill. They quality of work was lacking in many areas, and they cut some corners.
Description of Work: They did a kitchen remodel for us as well as well as some work on our upstairs bathroom and family room.

Response from Structural Dimensions Inc
Reply to the comments of the member's project. Project consisted of a kitchen, mudroom, master bathroom and master bedroom. Owners comment: “It was difficult to work with them” “There were a lot of things that they said they could do that they did not fulfill” “There quality of work was lacking in many areas, and they cut some corners” SDI comments: • This project was completed roughly 3 1/2 years ago. I am not sure what has transpired to have them write a negative report on my work and company at this time. • On this project all of the selections were completed prior to us starting this job. • While in the construction process the cabinet selection changed from a cherry cabinet to a painted cabinet. • This client was very concerned about the “Green” process and wanted to make sure the cabinet materials were free of any formaldehyde and low VOC paints. • All of our cabinets are custom cabinets. In this case, we even had custom plywood made to make sure they were free of formaldehyde. • We explained that on a scale of 1-10 having plywood custom made for their cabinets without chemicals brought the quality of the plywood down to a 3-4. But this is the only way to have it done without chemicals. • After all of the cabinets were installed the low VOC products started to react with each other – turning their cabinets a florescent green. I replaced all of the cabinets. It took roughly 3 weeks to rebuild, so this added to the original project timeline. The paint manufacturer paid the entire cost of having them re-made. Fulfilling expectations: • As part of this project the client asked to have all of the electrical current turned off when they were in their bed. We installed a breaker switch in their closet to turn the current off at night. • The only wiring not included was for the smoke detector. Federal code required it to be hard wired and the power must be connected the entire time. I explained this in detail. Unfortunately this was a disappointment to the owners, but I cannot override federal code requirements. Angie’s scoring sheet: 1. Price: • We are an open book company. This means all of the pricing from the vendors as well as the cost of each product is there for homeowners to see, from the start of the project. In this case, their selections included Grohe faucets, a Wolf range and a built-in sauna. To state that we are overpriced is simply false. Selections they chose drive the cost. 2. Quality: • SDI will never cut on quality. Period! • 8 months after this project was completed I received a phone call from the owner at 4:02 on a Sunday afternoon. He explained to me that he noticed a water spot in the main level ceiling under the upper level shower area. He explained as long as the shower was not running there was no water leaking. I had a crew there at 8:00 a.m. the next morning and had it all taken apart and was drying out the area before noon. We learned a valve broke on one of the jets in the shower. This was a part break and it had absolutely nothing to do with our quality. My plumbers insurance paid for a company of the homeowner’s choice to repair the damage. • If a client selects something that is of lesser quality, this cannot be a reflection of our quality! Example: the rear porch door was a low quality door found at most big box stores. We were asked to remove and replace the old door that was falling apart with the same door. We installed this low-priced door as requested. We were asked while at the home during the remodel to adjust it a few times due to it settling and rubbing on the floor. As an option we showed them how we custom make these types of doors with a full steel internal frame to solve this issue but they declined on the added cost of a custom door. 3. Responsiveness/ Punctuality/ Professionalism. • In the final stages of this project, I presented a few outstanding items that needed to be paid for and/or addressed. I had a complete list of overages on each item. In this meeting, the homeowner said, “I swear to God I did not ask for these items and SDI is lying.” At this time I presented the forms she had signed requesting the work be done. At this time I asked to no longer have contact with her and deal with him. He fully agreed to payment of these items as soon as I showed him that she had signed for them. • After I asked not to deal with her any longer. She brought up an item she wished to have completed and accused me of not doing the items she requested. This is when I showed him the change order she refused to sign. I explained that I could not do the work until I had the signed approval to do so. In closing: I was very puzzled on this report. About 6 months after I had final contact with them after the valve issue. The homeowner and his daughter approached me in the local grocery store and told me how much they were enjoying their new remodeled areas. On our prospect board we have 38 out of 44 leads that are either 2nd or 3rd repeat clients and the rest are referral. I will let that speak for itself. Description of Work: They built a new deck, installed new windows through out the house and two new doors, and resided the house.
