Once upon a time an attic insulation company came out to give us an estimate on some insulation and venting for the new home we purchased. We agreed to have the attic vented and insulated. It went well. Good follow-up. Performed work on time and as expected. We lived happily ever after. The end.

A good experience, especially considering the price. The auditor was polite & friendly and we had a proactive dialogue. I had already made quite a few energy efficiency improvements in my home and was not expecting too many suggestions, but the energy audit did reveal some more unexpected areas for improvement in my home. The only comments I would make are as follows: 1. The blower door fan was not able to generate sufficient airflow / pressure to reach the required parameters for the test, due to my house having high ceilings and the associated air volume. That said, we were still able to perform the thermal camera analysis. 2. I would have liked a report but, given that there were only minor suggestions, the auditor felt that there would be little merit in producing one. Overall, I was satisfied with the service and would recommend Blanket Insulation to others.

Kevin and Greg were extremely responsive. Just before the work began we scaled back the scope of work and the Blanket team did not blink, which I believe is a mark of their professionalism. This coupled with their A+ responsiveness and the fact that noise has already been noticeably reduced, means we will call them again when we reach other points of our home update. Thanks, Blanket!

This experience was the best I have had with any heating/cooling (or construction-type) professionals. Ever! (And if anything I am a very picky, critical person rather then a Pollyanna.) The rep, Greg, was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and very thorough. I have had an energy audit before and Greg gave me many details I did not previously know about my house (including the report from the home inspector when I bought it), including information about things I would consider to be relatively minor. I wil definitely use this company again. And Blanket Insulation management, if you are reading this, Greg deserves a raise -- a big one! He is a great ambassador for you.

The man who came to do the assessment was on time, professional, thorough, and very helpful in answering my questions, as well as providing some suggestions. He not only addressed insulation aspects of my home (the focus of the company) but also issues such as the can lights in the ceiling, which had an unusual amount of air loss, and related this to the roof of the front porch, which probably communicated directly with the ceiling in which these can lights were installed. He made a suggestion for a brand to replace these, and also where to purchase these. He looked at both the attic insulation, as well as around the joists/ceiling in the basement, and made suggestions there, as well. What I found most helpful was the air leakage around the windows in my home. These were the original, builder-grade windows, and I knew of a couple that were obviously drafty, and a couple of others that I "suspected". The infrared was able to identify exactly which windows were in need of replacement - including a couple that I had not suspected, (This could have been a very costly mistake if I had replaced others but not these) and also eliminated a couple of others that I thought were leaking badly, but were not. I found this to be the most helpful, as it provided firm evidence of how to make the best decision and investment in improving my energy use (and loss). I have made many of the changes, some have yet to be done. Having 'finished out' the winter heating months, however, I can compare the energy usage this year to last and the changes that I have done so far have made a noticeable, economic difference (improvement) in my home. I had heard varying comments from others about the value of an 'energy assessment' (not specifically from THIS company), but the "BIG DEAL" offer from Angie's List was too good to pass up. I am extremely glad that I had this done from this company, and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Performed a "comprehensive home energy assessment", which involved visually inspecting common areas of leakage, insulation amount and materials, and attaching a large 'fan' in the front door to pull air in through the house and then use an infrared reader to detect areas of high loss.

Initially, we had an energy assessment through Consumer Energy, and based on that we discovered that our insulation was not up to current standards, and other areas were lacking as well. The house was built in 1963. It is a ranch home on a slab. We had some insulating done many years ago, but felt the family room, which was added by the original owner, was cold. The insulation was limited up there, plus we stored things up there. Decided to not use that space as storage, and to insulate the entire house. Greg Mellas from Blanket Insulation came to our house to help with a more comprehensive energy analysis. In our discussion, we told him about the attic over the addition, and told him that there was some vermiculite insulation installed by the original owner. Unfortunately, Greg said that vermiculite, in many cases, contains asbestos. He sent out a sample to an independent company for analysis and it did show asbestos. They don't do asbestos remediation. We went with another company for that. We chose to have it completely removed rather that just contain it. We were thankful that we had this discussion with Greg, because it was a health issue. Greg provided an energy audit report to us, and gave us an itemized list of what could be done to improve the energy efficiency of our house. This was a list that broke down all the items by price. He also did thermal imaging of our walls to determine how much insulation was there. We had our walls done years ago. There was some settling, but not significantly. Greg said that it would not be as beneficial doing more in the walls. The ceiling was the most critical. We discussed the rebates available through Consumer Energy for doing the job. These rebates are significant - approximately $350.00. He helped us with the paperwork on that. He will submit to Consumer Energy, and we will get the rebate directly. We also were able to take advantage of Angie's list discount. The workers arrived on time and were extremely courteous. They covered the floor with tarp wherever they worked. They worked continuously from 9:00 to 5:30 - not even breaking for lunch. It was hot in the attic, but they worked through it. Greg came here to do some of the work as well. They had us inspect their work periodically during the day. They did an excellent job of cleaning up. Greg performed a draft door test on the house at the end of the day. He said there was a significant drop in air flow after the job was done. He was careful to say that a house cannot be completely air tight. That is a health issue as well. We would highly recommend this company. Greg explained everything in detail. I felt that we were respected, and well informed, and we felt they did an excellent job. In his report, he gave us estimated energy savings. Can't comment on that yet, as the heat is off right now, and the air conditioning is not on yet. We're confident we will see savings.
Description of Work: Installed insulation in the entire attic. Air sealed wiring and plumbing penetrations in the attic, installed and insulated a sealed box with a pulley system for the whole house attic fan, installed 7 recessed light covers in the attic, and an exhaust kit for the bathroom exhaust fan, as well as insulating an exposed kitchen exhaust fan duct in the attic. Air sealed penetrations in the furnace closet. Weather stripped and insulated the pull down attic staircase.

Provider spent a good amount of time going through the house and making notes. He discussed his findings with me and I asked questions about specific issues; mainly skylights, house overhang areas, air infiltration around doors. While the visit went well, the report was late by their estimate. I checked with them and was promised a report within 24 hours. I received the report and while useful, it seemed generic and did not address specifics to the extent I was looking for. The quotes given were very competitive and overall I found it a valuable experience and gained additional knowledge on how to make my home even more energy efficient.

Greg M., Rodney and Josh were absolutely fantastic. The team told me that it would a day to complete the work. It took about seven hours for the job to complete. They cleaned everything. I couldn't even tell that they were here. They showed the values prior to and after the job was complete. The house has a lot less draft. I actually can feel the air conditioning and / or the heat.....before the wind blew right down the middle of the house. Thanks Team! Highly recommend them! We even actually applied for a higher rebate based on the job they conducted.....

I just purchased and moved into my first home a few weeks ago. During the home inspection it was pointed out that the unusable section in the bungalow attic that could be accessed, was in desperate need of insulation. At first I was going to use the insulation "Big Deal" that was offered by Angie's List, but that did not apply to the attic style of my home. However Blanket Insulation did apply their 15% Angie's List members' discount coupon which saved me substantially on the final price. Greg from Blanket Insulation first came out to inspect the work site, took stock of what the situation was, took some detail measurements, explained what needed to be done and why, and then gave me a quote. It was more then I was expecting, but I understood the whys and wherefores that resulted in the quote. It was agreed that the scope of work would include: - creating access panels in the two sections of the attic that did not have them - install insulation in the lower rafter sections of the 3 unusable sections (this was SEVERAL inches high - and really several feet high) - install insulation along the sides and top of the "bungalow" roof section - Greg did check to make sure the recessed lighting units in the bungalow roof where rated correctly - they were thankfully. - insulate and sealed both the existing access door and the two newly created access doors. The two man Blanket Insulation crew showed up on the appointed day (a little late, but I was used to that from contractors by then, it seems that most - if not all - GPS programs sends everyone to the same street address the next city over for some reason) and got right to work. They had me show them the area, figured out the best way to get the work accomplished and proceeded. Both workers were very personable, polite and diligent. Several hours later they were finished up and departed. If I hadn't known any better (and I did not have two newly created access panels and LOTS of new insulation) I would not even have never have known they were even there. They cleaned up after themselves so well that there was no trace of them left behind. I was impressed with Blanket Insulation from the first and to the last. At no point did I (or do I) feel like I made the wrong decision. I now that an attic that will keep heat the in, in the winter and out in the summer. Thank you very much to everyone that was part of this project.

I didn't have any services performed so this is not a rating on the company's services. I purchased the $99 for 300 sqft of blown in insulation. When the salesman came out, he was very nice. At the end I was told that you had to purchase more in order to get the deal on a small portion of the $2600 (after the deal) total quote. I decided not to go with their services because we were not looking to spend that much at the moment.

The energy audit itself was remarkably thorough. Brian, the technician, spent hours going through our home from attic to basement visually assessing things. He then connected the large fan system that draws air from the building and asked me to walk through the house with him as he showed me where we were losing heat. I was shocked to see how much leakage we had in a 12-yr. old home. Within days, we received a detailed report that identified a dozen or more areas needing attention (as specific as leakage around a single corner of a window), an analysis of potential energy savings based upon our recent energy bills, and a detailed job quote for addressing these issues. I identified about a third of the items that I could do myself (e.g., installing energy saving inserts in ceiling can lights) and asked for a revised job quote. I also inquired about whether my doing this work would negatively affect the available rebates. Brian responded promptly with the revised quote. He made clear that the rebates covered the basement and attic insulation (work they would do) as well as my success in completing the work I planned to do prior to their insulation visit. In other words, if I attended to my items successfully, the final test would show this. The guys (Ethan & Hector) came yesterday morning to add the attic & basement insulation. We visited the job sites and I showed them the work I'd done. NOTE: They were kind enough to add some caulking in a couple of places I'd missed! Ethan explained exactly what they would be doing over a cup of coffee, and then they went to work. They worked non-stop for the next 5+ hours. They were careful to cover all the surfaces they walked on, and they did a great clean up after finishing their work. Before leaving, they walked and talked me through everything they'd done. They were great guys with great work habits! About 30 minutes after they left, Greg arrived. He's another technician whose job is to review the work completed and hook up the giant fan that would provide data on the leaking air (to compare it to the original readings). He was pleased with the change resulting from all of the insulation work done and informed me that our rebate would actually be larger than first suggested as a result of this new data. Needless to say, I was pleased with that news. He had all of the rebate forms with him for me to sign. He will send those in for us. I'm glad we've had all of this work done, and glad that we had Blanket Insulation do it for us. And to think that this all started with an Angie's List special offer!
Description of Work: Following a comprehensive energy audit done several months ago, two service guys arrived yesterday and insulated the basement rim joints (foam) before installing a dropdown staircase cover, baffling attic slopes and blowing in cellulose insulation throughout the entire attic. They also caulked around several windows and doors per the work order.

The technician was pleasant and professional, and explained everything that he did. He spent considerable time checking the house over, including in the attic. Overall, I think I got most of what I was looking for. The one thing I had hoped would be included, but wasn't, was directly testing the electrical loads being drawn by various appliances. I suspect that some of mine are using more than rated, and I would like to have found out if this was the case.

I Cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Blanket Insulation. The salesman, Greg Mellas, came out to my home in mid March, on time, and gave me an initial estimate for the attic and basement joists. I also indicated that I had the outside walls done 20 years ago and that there might be some settling, which a thermal imaging confirmed. Greg indicated that they could "top off" the walls which increased the price to $3950. On the day of the job the lead technician (Lorenzo) indicated that after drilling a few holes and trying to fill them up, the outside walls would not take any of the insulation, and he did not feel comfortable charging for that component of the job because the outside walls were obviously already full. Another of the technicians, Rodney, also confirmed that whoever had done the walls had done a pretty good job. They suggested that I contact their boss and go with the original job, which they did admirably. The attic is neat, they cleaned up after themselves, and the basement is so neat that I first couldn't see where they had done the work. A good job for a fair price is all I expected, but their integrity and honesty were an unexpected bonus. The guys could have drilled some more holes and charged me for work I didn't need and I would have never known the difference. The character of these men is rare in today's world and I hope these guys get a lot of business. From my experience, I highly recommend Blanket Insulation Daron B. Mathis

We were very pleased with the crew. Greg came the next day, to check the "After Improvement" ratings, which were substantially better than projected. Our CONSUMERS rebate check of $ 700.00 was received within les than 3 weeks. All together a very pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Greg and his helper first took all the measurements to identify air leaks and grades of insulation. After 2.5 hours of testing, Greg reported his findings, and made recommendations what should be done to reduce air leaks to a desired level, and to improve insulation. We ask him if his company will handle all the improvements, he said yes, and provided a detailed estimates for 2 solutions. We placed the order. The crew arrived on time about 2 weeks later. They were very professional and hard working. We were amazed that they were able to finish a great job by the early after noon. Every thing was nicely cleaned up before they left.
