I originally scheduled an inspection well over one year ago. I cancelled - twice! - and asked for a call back this spring. I received a call from the office in March and scheduled again. During every call I was treated professionally and kindly. I scheduled the work with Greg. I then, again, postponed. Two weeks later, the workers were finally able to come. I was called one hour before the scheduled arrival so I knew when they would get to my home. The first job was to remove all the old fiberglass insulation. This not a job I wish on anyone. I have an addition on the home with a cedar ceiling and walls. Over that room a solid layer of foam was added plus, throughout the entire ceiling, any place where joists or walls connected was foamed. Thirteen light cans were housed and foamed. Two vents were repaired and three were foamed. The two large skylights in the ceiling (a standard eight foot ceiling) had their walls foamed. When doing the foaming portion, they found electrical boxes not attached and some without covers. These were repaired. At some point, a wire came loose and I lost the lights in the addition. They traced it and fixed that. The next day, cellulose was blown in to give the ceiling a R-49 insulation rating. As a bonus, part of the fiberglass that was removed was placed over the garage space, something they did not have to do. The addition had special issues as the house brick wall was not completely removed. Between that, the wood walls and ceiling, and one wall butting up to the garage, the room had a convection issue that caused it to always be cold in winter and hot in the summer. The non insulated crawlspace increased the effect. By foaming the areas in the attic where air could infiltrate the wall cavities, the fix was started. Under the addition, the crawlspace has a short - about 2 foot tall ceiling. All the insulation was removed, and the duct insulation checked and repaired as needed. The floor was had a thick vapor barrier and sheet insulation added. All the walls were foamed. They even add insulation to the entry cover and added attachments so it is easier to remove if needed. At all times, the crew was friendly and professional. I was extremely anxious during the first day as I have had some nightmare contractors over the years. The guys took it all in stride and treated me with respect and consideration. After all the work was done, Greg came back a few days later and performed another blower test. He filled out the rebates, I signed them and he submitted them. To be honest, I was uncomfortable one time during the process. The man doing the foam asked to walk the inside of the house so he would not exactly where the walls and lights were. This was an extra step to help him navigate the beams. I didn't expect anyone inside the house and would have made my bed. ;) I would hire this company again in a heartbeat. $6,000.00 is a lot of money and the company's attention to customer service, excellent training, and hard workers made it much less stressful to pay the bill.
Description of Work: Greg came out and did a thorough inspection, including thermal and blower door. He climbed all through the attic and short crawl space. Every issue was documented. He presented a detailed evaluation, photographs and cost estimate. After 'spring discount' and $850 in projected rebates, the cost was listed as $6000.00. The one line item I turned down was the chimney cover. At $650 it seem exorbitant. I did not include the $650 in the amount listed above.

Very professional. The crew of 2 was punctual and pleasant throughout the day. Drop cloths and booties were used, and they vacuumed at the completion of the job. They staged their work in my garage, and left it cleaner than it was to start. Before and after photos were provided.
Description of Work: Improved the hatch cover, wrapped the interior chimney, used foam to seal where pipes, conduits and wiring penetrate the attic floor, and applied cellulose insulation to achieve a rating of R-49.

Overall we were pleased with Blanket Insulation. Our calls were returned promptly and the estimate meeting was scheduled within a few days. Additionally, even though the work would take place after a discount promotion for Angie's List members would end, the discount was still honored. The estimate stated insulation was to be inserted by removing individual rows of siding, drilling subwall, and reinstalling the siding. We were expected to be home but told most of the work would be completed from the outside. Unfortunately, we were told the insulation couldn't be done as stated. This was due to the home exterior possibly containing asbestos. We were told the work could still be done but needed to be done inside the home or could be rescheduled. We were not prepared to have workers in our home but we could not afford to take another day off work. We chose to have the work done and "hid" in the basement with our animals, trying to keep them calm. We didn't have access to the kitchen and appliances, so we had to get carry out food for the day. All of this was very inconvenient and seems as if it could have been avoided with a more thorough estimate inspection. The work was completed that day and we have definitely been able to tell a difference. Our heating and cooling bills have decreased, as has the draft we often felt. All of the employees we had interactions with from Blanket Insulation were polite and professional.

Andrew and Rob were terrific (I hope I'm remembering their names correctly). They were friendly, informative, and totally professional. This was consistent with Guy's earlier excellent analysis and recommendations earlier in the autumn when I first contacted Blanket Insulation. It tells you the company is hiring and training well when you see three employees at different times all behaving so helpfully. Andrew called me to let me know exactly when they would arrive that morning, which made me confident as 9AM approached that the appointment was not going to be forgotten or delayed. You know how important that is given how some contractors make you wonder "are they really showing up today?". Andrew was very good at explaining the details of what they did and what they found, taking the time to show me photos he took on his tablet of their work in various parts of the attic. As with Guy's initial visit, the home office emailed me the photos so I can have more proof of the improvements made to the home under my ownership. My old house lacks a basement so the forced air heating has to go through a cold attic before delivering heated air to my rooms below. Prior owners hadn't done anything to air seal and insulate the ducts. I was also impressed that they completed the work well before the end time predicted by the home office, so they under-promised and over-delivered on their scheduling. After a couple weeks, I think I feel warmer in the house, especially one three season room that Andrew said had some pretty wide gaps around the vents and cold air would waft down when the furnace wasn't running. Based on this positive experience, I'll ask Blanket Insulation to return next fall to seal the air gaps in the rest of the attic, and, someday when I don't need any contractors working up there on other projects, blow in cellulose to snug this place up.

Ordered a home energy audit. It had to be cancelled due to potential asbestos insulation being present in the house. They were prompt, very professional and took a sample for me to have tested which was very helpful. However given the age of my home I am unhappy that I was not warned of this likely outcome as it caused me to needlessly take a day off of work. Also there are many spaces in my house where no asbestos is present which would have benefited from review however the company's policy is to leave the home as soon as potential asbestos is found. I understand this is likely a liability issue but again I am not happy that I was not warned.

I bought a "Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment" from AngiesList, but this deal was really mislabeled--it was by no means a "comprehensive" analysis. It should have been labeled "Insulation Evaluation". The person who came out was very professional and personable, and spent time going room to room to analyze our insulation, but I was expecting things like an outside thermal infrared scan, blower door test, combustion appliance metering, and some kind of final report--none of which happened. I'm sure the company does good work--if I ever needed insulation, I would definitely use them, but I expected more from this analysis.

The inspection went well, and the inspector was very thorough and professional in both the inspection and walk through of the findings. I was definitely impressed with the results and findings, and was looking forward to receiving the report and proposal but was informed that those needed to be provided via another appointment. That is where things did go a little downhill as the inspector no called/no showed for the appointment they scheduled while onsite for the first appointment. I attempted to contact both the company and inspector the day of the appointment to see what happened but no one was available or returned my call. A few days later I followed up with the company and did receive a voicemail from the inspector with an apology for the no show; however, I had already spoke to someone at the company and explained my preferred solution (mail me the report). I was not interested (still not) in scheduling another appointment to receive the report, and that appears to be the only way to receive it as it has not been mailed or emailed as previously requested from them. They have attempted to remedied the situation on a few different occasions which is why I elected to not slam them in the ratings. Also, the inspection appointment was very thorough and professional, and the missed appointment may have been on the inspector and not the company. I just have no time or patience for missed appointments without any notification, as it is a bit unprofessional and obviously a waste of my time.

This work was preceded by a blower-door test and heat analysis using an infrared detector to find places that needed work, under a Consumer's Energy savings plan. The job took much longer than the initial estimate, but throughout the process we were kept up to date on their progress. The crew was highly professional and accommodating, going beyond expectations. One day they worked 12 hours straight to try to complete on schedule. After the work was done the blower-door test was repeated and confirmed a 35% improvement in air leakage, which qualified us for a $700 rebate from Consumers Energy.

Scheduling the review and the work went very well. The workers really impressed me, they were thorough, informative and bent over backwards to leave very few holes or mess. Very happy and satisfied. The information package sent before hand, also excellent and informative. The sales guy soured me on the whole process. When the job was done he didn't contact me to do the follow up inspection required for the rebates, I had to reach out to him several times. After he did the follow up measurements, he told me I could track the rebates, so naturally I asked for the information so I could so. He offered to provide the information to me end of that week. It never happened. I contacted him again, and again he promised a delivery date, and didn't deliver. In the end I had to call the office for the information because I assumed he just did not file for the rebates. She helped and told me it wasn't possible to track the rebates and honestly right now I have no idea if I will get the promised $700 in rebates. The sales guy told me they are paid on commission, so once the job was done and paid for , the follow up / follow through was horrible. For the amount of money paid the service, or feedback should be far better.

Located two areas that required attention. Recommended adding insulation to outer walls. Attic insulation met required standards. Also recommended rim joist insulation in basement. Home energy advisor sent introductory package prior to appointment date to identify himself and provide details of what to expect. Arrived on time, was professional and courteous during inspection. Explained his findings and provided detailed explanation of his recommendations. Provided quotation for recommended services. Prices were reasonable and we intend to contract for recommended services as our budget permits.

One heck of a deal. This gentleman spent over four hours looking at every nook and cranny of my home, and paid particular attention to areas than concerned me. Obviously, his job is to drum up insulation business for the parent company, but there was no pressure at all. He just gave me quotes for certain jobs, thanked me and left. A completely civilized and complete approach to the job. And I learned plenty about my home. Very satisfied.

It went well overall. Mr. Craig have to come back and check if everything is done right. I'm still waiting. The crew of 4 people came right on time and started the work right away. They all worked well with each other and everything went as planned. They placed insulation throughout the house including basement. There were some exhaust fan needed to be fixed in terms of ventilation which were not done properly by previous owner. I believe and hope the benefit will be in the future and might see the real effect in next season.

Blanket Insulation's rep, Kevin, spent nearly an hour in our home attic assessing the cause of heavy ice damming around our roof gutters. This proved pivotal as he uncovered several problems unnoticed by another company's cursory inspection, including insulation-eaten-away wall areas due to a previous squirrel infestation. He also noticed bath fan vents that had never been extended through the roof. And he documented his findings to me with photos. Though not the cheapest, we were impressed with the thoroughness of Blanket Insulation's bid estimate and were not disappointed. The crew arrived promptly and sealed the entire attic perimeter to eliminate any leaks before starting. They applied the blown-in cellulose insulation and spray foam as discussed. And they created venting for two bath fans to extend up and out the roof. When one of the workmen cracked a small area of our vaulted living room ceiling during the project, the foreman immediately patched and sanded the spot and came back the next day to repaint. Unfortunately, the color of the repainted area didn't quite match. So the company, at their own expense, paid to have the entire living room ceiling painted to the color of our choosing. All in all, we're very satisfied and would readily recommend Blanket Insulation to others.
Description of Work: Supplemented existing fiberglass batting home attic insulation with blown in cellulose to bring it up to R49 rating. Applied spray foam to seal other areas and created baffles to extend bath vents outside. Also patched and repainted living room ceiling when technician inadvertently created a ceiling crack during installation.

Very nice job by the salesman explaining everything along with the benefits from the work. I really enjoyed the blower door test, which shows all leaks in the home. The installation work was a bit less than ideal, but they were very responsive about coming back out to fix any issues. If you hire this company I would just inspect the work closely to ensure it was done as promised. The final job after all fixes was very good, it just took a bit of follow up to get them to do it all correctly.

The service tech was Guy. He was professional and informative. He asked if I had any concerns, inspected the house, did a heat test, walked me through all the areas that could use more insulation, and gave me tips for things I could do myself. At the end, he gave me an estimate for all the different areas we discussed without any pressure to schedule the work which I also thought was very respectable. I think people should try their insulation check just so you know what areas of your house need extra insulation.
