Our company has been in business for 62 years. We service and install furnace and air conditioning equipment. Including humidifiers and air cleaners. Owned by Dennis Cline and Glen Renaud, Royal Oak Heating and Cooling was established in 1951 and moved to our present location at 728 E. Eleven Mile, Royal Oak in 1971. Dennis began his employment with the company in 1971 as an apprentice hoping to learn a trade. While working full time and continuing his education he learned all the facets of the residential heating and cooling business and became a partner in the company in 1989 and sole owner in 1991. Glen came to Royal Oak Heating & Cooling in 1986 after being employed in the HVAC field for 8 years, becoming a partner in 1994. Today, Royal Oak Heating & Cooling has over 12 dependable professionals to serve you.

Royal Oak Heating and Cooling must be losing a lot of business because of their telephone answerer Kim Jennifer's incredible and disconcerting lack of professionalism and empathy. I lost my heat early on a Sunday morning during a very cold spell in January in Michigan because the furnace motor burned out. I called the following Monday morning to 1) schedule an appointment to estimate replacing my furnace and 2) obtain service for the burned out furnace motor in case the furnace replacement took longer than we could stand the cold. After we agreed the appointment time, she gave me a ridiculously expensive estimate for the motor replacement. She has a great telephone voice and appeared to be very pleasant until I replied that the service seemed very expensive and that I could get the motor for 1/3 her price. At that point, her personality changed completely. She said, "well get the motor and do it yourself", and hung up on me. I don't even know if the salesperson is going to appear at my door to estimate replacing my broken furnace. At no point was I ever rude to her. Very strange. They certainly set my expectations regarding the type of treatment I would receive as a customer and I'll certainly never ever do business with them.

The attitude of the woman on the phone is the main problem. They did work for me and were supposed to get back to me about fixing my furnace. She was rude on the phone. I had this feeling the last time I called that there was some annoyance on the phone. There was a crack on the furnace and they were contacting the manufacturer. I had not heard back from them so I called. I did not have a chance to talk and she claimed I was rude to her. I was not being nasty, did not raise my voice. The service individuals were very nice but I had a problem with this person.
Description of Work: They repaired my furnace. I have used them for 8 years.

They showed up when they said they were going to. They got the job done quickly. We were very pleased with the people and their services. They did a nice job cleaning up after themselves.

Terrible. I had used them in the past quite a few times-and gave them good grades--for regular annual check-ups-I assumed that I was considered a regular customer. They did annual check-up in May. I had a malfunctioning furnace in October-- on Thursday night-so I called their answering service to try to have service the next morning-Friday. Answering service told me they would leave a message and that RO Hand C opened at 8 am. No call from them at 8 so I called at 8:20 am and was informed (by rude woman) that I could have someone at my house after 5 on Friday for overtime rates starting at $130 or wait till Monday morning. Thanks for no help! So I called Jim Watts Hand C in Royal Oak and someone was at my house 2 hours later- at 10:30 am-with problem solved by 11:00 am. I am not gong back to RO Hand C--I will go to Watts from now on.

It has always been our goal to provide service to our customers quickly & efficiently, with honesty & integrity. A brief review of every other customer report we have been fortunate enough to receive, speaks to those efforts. It is unfortunate we were unable to please this customer. She called for service after hours, was offered service at that time, but declined. She did not want to pay the premium fee for overtime service. We have offered a reasonable & comprehensive schedule of service hours & rates for 57 years, but were unable to work within the parameters established by the member at the service rate she desired.

We received an offer on our condo, the inspection went fairly well, except for the inspector noticed a CO2 leak coming from the furnace. I called Royal Oak Heating and Cooling, they were able to send someone right away at lunch time. Two guys arrived exactly on time, the operator called 15 minutes prior. The team was very professional. Checked the CO2 at several locations, concluded that the CO2 leak was within the normal range at start-up esp. during the summer months. Removed an extra part that was added in the 80's that may have caused a slightly higher CO2 number during the inspection.
Description of Work: Checked CO2 levels around furnace at start up and while running. Removed a part that was added in the 80's to supposedly save energy, but did not work.

A/C stopped working last night. Called and left message with the answering service because it was after hours. Received call this morning and scheduled same day service for 12-3 pm window! Same Day Service! The only place we called that could offer us that (guess a/c service professionals are hard to come by in the first week of August)! Their representative, John, showed up, tested the A/C and discovered a broken motor and blown fuse. Replaced fuse and fixed motor and had A/C working in 15 minutes. Then I started picking his brain about random A/C issues we are experiencing. He did a lot of investigating and said he will call us tomorrow with suggestions. Basically our A/C unit is too small for our 3500 sq. ft. house and we need to install an additional unit but are trying to figure out a way around that. So John started crunching some ideas as to how to make our single unit more efficient.
Description of Work: Blown fuse and broken motor, fuse replaced, motor fixed, A/C up and running again.

They came out to give me an estimate on thermostat zoning. To get our entire house zoned was too expensive for what we wanted right now, I felt that the guy was honest with me. He took the time to clearly explain things about my A/C system, as well as some lower-cost alternatives to zoning - which I appreciated. He also gave me an estimate on a new water heater and humidifier, which was not a part of the original call. The estimate was fair and I will likely end up giving them a call this fall when I am ready to proceed with that. I gave a B rating on punctuality because he was late. However, he did call me to say he was running behind schedule and lucky for both of us, I happened to be pretty flexible that day!

I am so sorry that I did not call ROYAL OAK FIRST...a lot of time and sleepless nights not to mention an additional 550.00 could have been saved. They will be my FIRST and only call. The staff from the phone call to having the professional techs in your home are top notch. I can't praise them enough!!!
Description of Work: AC was not working 2 companies could not find problem and yet I was charged. Royal Oak was the best...they did the trouble shooting and did have to order additional parts. The tech made a temp repair to at least give us some relieve in the 90 plus days...one week later he returned and we have had NO problem and cool air.

Of course we didn't notice that A/C wasn't working properly until we really needed it. The timing was after the storms went through Oakland County and we started to have hot humid weather. When I called, I received an appointment within 2 days, which I thought was good considering everything going on. I was given a window of 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, with the promise that the serviceman would call before arrival. Rates were thoroughly explained to me. Serviceman called this morning about 9:00 am and arrived within the 15 minutes he stated. Serviceman was very nice and pleasant. Found he just needed to recharge my A/C. Received $20 off service call using coupon on their website and finding them on Angie's List. Found charge reasonable and lower than our last A/C recharge 2 years ago. Will definitely call again if needed!

I spoke with them to schedule an appointment early in the morning. John, the serviceman, was at my door in 45 minutes (including a 30 minute drive). He was able to clean my unit and re-light the pilot and get my furnace back up and running very quickly. He was very pleasant and professional. He cleaned up the area upon completion. He also gave me instructions on lighting the pilot in the future. The service also came at a very reasonable price. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone looking for HVAC services. When the day comes that my 35 year-old furnace does go out, I will be calling Royal Oak Hand C for the replacement.

Installation took about a day and a half. Both installers were professional, hard working (only broke for lunch briefly), and kept the work areas clean. Both were certified with 10+ years experience. One of the owners (Dennis Cline) provided the original quote. Pricing was reasonable and was significantly lower than primary competitors. Would highly recommend Royal Oak Heating and Cooling for major HVAC projects.
Description of Work: Installation of new high efficiency furnace and A/C units. Additionally completed all associated piping/venting work and hooked up new units to existing air filter and humidifier.

The workers arrived on time. They took care of the cause with as little mess as possible. The installation was professionally done. Mr. Renaud was very fastidious. They cleaned up well afterwards and returned a few weeks later to set up the A/C for the summer. Their price was the best that I got from several contractors for similar equipment. There were a few problems afterwards, but that was due to faults in the equipment, not Royal Oak. They fixed the problems quickly. In fact, I called one day at 4:55pm and they had someone at my house by 7pm.

I called this company after reading great reviews, and was informed that they will not perform any service within the City of Detroit, and have not done so for over 30 years because "something bad happened". A great disappointment.

Our furnace stopped working and I called their office at 8 Monday morning. A repairman was at my house an hour later, and by 10 am the heat was on. The technician was very professional and did not offer anything I did not need. I will recommend this company to everyone I know.

It was a good experience. I was out of town and my house sitter called to tell me my heat wasn't working. They came over the same day and it the repair was performed in about a half/hour for the estimated cost.

Dennis Cline provided the estimate. Very professional. Answered all my questions, including a couple of follow-up calls. Dennis knows his business, and he did not pressure me. The estimate was detailed and complete, with literature provided for all new equipment. This was my third experience with this company, and each one was very positive.
Description of Work: Installed new hot water boiler, with all associated parts/piping. Also 2 Honeywell Zone thermostats. Removed old boiler.

I was able to get an appointment quickly. The guys arrived on time and did a good job. After they left, I noticed that the water pressure in my upstairs faucet was really low. They came right back out and cleaned the filter, which had gotten clogged with silt (no fault of theirs. I would definitely recommend this company
