Description of Work: I was skeptical with what he was telling me I needed and I called someone else. I found out that everything I was told was false. I called the company and cancelled the part the repairman told me I needed and ask for my deposit back. I won't bad mouth the company for what a individual did but, I will not use use them again.

Do obtain bids from 5-6 qualified contractors Do be ready for considerable expense to go to a hi-efficiency boiler system. Do consider all associated costs to upgrade entire system, not just the boiler itself. Don't be in a hurry. Don't share what the other bids were, until you're settled on the right company. Don't go low bidder only on price - go for competency on setting up the system and on price competitiveness Don't be afraid to negotiate the difference between lowest bid and the next higher one that you want to go with.
Description of Work: Attempted to get a 50+ yr old hot water boiler annually serviced and was given cost of repairs for just components that was estimated to be $1200+ Most of repair estimate was for older, earlier tech components like older-style "zone controlers" (one leaking) and water manifold system (four zones), gas burner and failed bladder tank, but all were much higher than have paid previously. Decided to obtain estimates for total replacement with a "hi-efficiency boiler", did some research, and started obtaining estimates from six local contractors with good to excellent ratings. Knew that new boiler would be expensive, but thought a Hi-Eff boiler would be a better investment long term. 5/6 companies supplied estimates for the same brand and model of Hi-Eff boiler (Lochinvar - Knight 150 Btu) but most of the bids had two major failings: - they estimated installation of a "Hi-Eff boiler" (usually the same make / model ) and pricing ranged from lowest bid (just boiler) to highest bid (+25% more for just boiler) but never mentioned changing out the older "zone control" water manifold system; they were going to replace one failed zone controller and use the existing others and plumbing; - 4/6 discouraged use of the "hot water boiler" system for use as a supplier of domestic hot water saying they didn't think it made sense to "run the boiler in the summer just to provide hot water for home use" or that those systems were "problematic" -- that just sounded like they had not installed such a system. Only one of the bidders (Colonial - 2nd lowest bid at +15% for just boiler) advised that to get the most efficiency out of the hi-efficiency boiler system, the system should be re-plumbed and provided with individual zone pumps and use an additional zone for the domestic hot water whenever we were ready to go the added expense of putting in the new storage tank and connection. All of this made much more sense, even if an added expense (+69% over lowest bid, but equal to the highest bid received from one bidder for just boiler!). We went with Colonial.

Were called in for a standard furnace maintenance. I hadn't done one in 2-3 years. The tech was professional and thorough. He did catch an issue with condensation leaking into the furnace housing. He suggested a pump driven drainage mechanism to take care of the issue. He can in put all the necessary piping to drain it to the sump and the electrical connections and completed the installation in about 2 hours. It appears to be a good and professional job. I had it done over 6 months ago, and all is in working order. Polite, professional, thorough and efficient. Enough said. Will most likely use them again...

The first scheduled appointment they were a no call, no show. I called them to reschedule. They were an hour and a half late for the 2nd appointment. He took longer to write up my receipt then he did to inspect my furnace. I understand emergencies especially with heating and cooling in the winter but I also understand the use of a phone call when someone is waiting.

It has been a wonderful experience. The price was very competitive. I took quote from 3 contractors. I used Trane 95% efficiency furnace as they gave me a very good price for it. I used 50 Gal hot water tank, that replaced my old 40 Gal water tank. The proffessionals did a very good job and in very timely manner. They also followed up with the Consumers Energy rebate for me and i got the check in about 4 weeks. OVer all very responsive customer service. I didn't have to call them for any further follow up. I am very happy with this purchase.

The company was backed up from the early cold snap, but they were very nice and helped me with a temporary fix until they could make it out. When they came out, the removed the old condensate pump and put on the new one. The guys showed me the plug that the pump was plugged into was actually a GFI plug and switch for the furnace. It was not a typical GFI with the red/black reset buttons, but the button was still there and I had missed it plain as day. With my level of handiness, I should have know from the LED. I apologized to the guys for having to come out for nothing, but they were very nice about it and didn't seem bothered at all. Thanks to the awesome service plan I got with my new furnace, I didn't have to pay, which made me feel more like a heel for their wasted trip. I would recommend this company for their customer service alone. The lady answering the phones to the guys who came to my house were all nice and professional.

Provide estimate over the phone and quote within one day.At quotation Erik suggested a higher efficiency unit that would cost approximately the same after DTE rebate as a lower efficiency unit. After some negotiation we agreed on fair price and warranty. Scheduled soon after for following week installation.Pleased with quality of product. Lead technician, Jesse, did an outstanding job both technically and from a customer relations standpoint.Air is working well.Great overall experience.

First guy that came out said our ac was leaking and frozen up. Said to turn off for a few days to thaw and he would come back out, fix leak, add freon and all would be well. Second guy said it would be better to buy a whole new furnace and ac unit - estimate $6,700!! Did not want to do repair as first person mentioned. We waited through extreme heat and national holiday to get ac working again as first guy said - only to be told we needed to replace a 7 year old ac unit!! Also, Patty, in office was extremely rude and would not keep the promise that first guy made about coming out after national holiday to complete work. Said they were too busy.

Great - I actually found this company while doing a search for approximate costs of HVAC's. The search led me to a site that simply asked if I would like someone to contact me. I checked yes. Colonial called the next day and came out the same day and provided an estimate. The estimate was lower than 3 I had obtained the previous year and on par with another obtained this year. They provided resources for very reasonable financing. Within a couple of days I had made the decision to move forward with them. We set a date for the following week. Their technicians were polite and got right to work bright and early. Everything went well and my AC is running smoothly. Everyone from the owner, the guy who provided the estimate and the technicians was nice and professional.

The owner was late for my estimate, but the fact he was coming on a Sunday was great so I didn't really mind. He showed me several choices and respected my wishes to keep things simple. The day of the installation, the guys came out right on time. After seeing the giant old furnace and the work it would take to remove it, they were a bit grouchy. It was a 2 day job, but they worked very hard and remained professional. They cleaned up after themselves as well. When the furnace was inspected, the inspector expressed they did an excellent job as most things he tends to site. Then he noted the exhaust and intake on the outside. According to code and the product manual, they were to be no less than 9 inches apart and they were much closer than that. When I called to report the information, I was informed the guys could not come back out to repair it on a Saturday. This was mildly annoying because I had to take more time off work. They came the next day even earlier than expected and got the job done quickly and professionally. They rigged it so they didn't even have to drill another hole in the side of my house. The furnace passed inspection the second time around. Now I have a great quality furnance/ac with an excellent service plan.

I waited on the date/time that they were supposed to come. At one point when I was in the basement, I heard the dogs bark (in the house). I went up to look and saw the truck driving away. Apparently he had come to the front of the house which most people realize is not the door we use as the driveway goes to the back. If he rang the doorbell, I didn't hear it. He also did not wait very long because it took me less than 2 minutes to get out of the basement and to the front of the house. I called the company and they arranged to reschedule. THis time I did specifically say to come to the back of the house. The man came. He was in the basement about 5 minutes and came up to report that we needed to have our air ducts cleaned. He explained that he had put a light up there and that the ducts were full of dust. He then took my husband to the basement and had him look. My husband saw only the inside of the duct. After he left, we realized that he said nothing at all about the furnace, which was the reason he was supposed to be there. He did not change the furnace filter or say anything about any of it. I feel his main purpose in coming here was to sell us air duct cleaning. I feel it was a complete waste of money and would not recomment this company at all.

Looking at the recent reports I wonder if we really needed the new motor. Will be more cautious in the future. The 'new motor' he put in is running rough and squeaking, doesn't really sound like its a new motor. Technician left his CO2 monitor in our basement, left a message to call so he could pick it up. There was more than a little confusion when we did call him back. Seems like he left more equipment at other houses.

I bought the AngiesList Big Deal as stated on the deal "$389 for Whole House Air Duct Cleaning, Dryer Vent Cleaning PLUS 18-Point Furnace Tune-Up! " (including the services listed previously). Upon scheduling my service for 12/19, the representative asked for my deal code. I provided it, and he assured me they had availability on 12/19. I took the day off work to stay home for them to show up. They promised to call ahead of their arrival. I didn't receive a call but they showed up within the time range they estimated at 9:30am. I was puzzled as one guy and a small pick-up truck arrived. The guy asked where my furnace was, and I showed him the furnace. He looked at it for a few minutes, examined the filters (told my I should replace them and was able to replace my humidifier filter). He was very nice. He then wrote up an invoice and recommended duct cleaning service as the ducts had never been cleaned. I was quite confused at that point. I told him that is what I purchased and expected today. He then called the front office and on my behalf relayed exactly what I said. It sounded like the front office was arguing with him as he had to reiterate that I took the day off and was told the services would happen today. He told me that there must have been some confusion and the duct cleaning guys would come much later in the day when they were done with the other jobs. They showed up at 5:30pm that night. They said it would take about 90mins, which was right on. They seemed to get to business right away. They had generators on both sides of my house with the doors cracked blowing exhaust in the house which was giving me a headache, not to mention my wife and 5 month old son. I observed them go to each duct and blow into them, as expected. 90mins later, they started to clean up and shut machines off. They then were making their last trip out the back of my house and said "Sir we're done." I then asked if they brought my furnace filter. To which they said, were we supposed to? The first guy that showed up said he would tell them to bring one... but they didn't. Not that big of deal as it was 30% more than at Home Depot. I went downstairs and found they created the duct entry points as expected. However, they didn't clean up all the metal shavings that were all over the floor. So I had to vacuum that up with my shop vac. So the next day I wondered if they actually performed all the services of the deal -and gt; specifically the dryer vent cleaning and sanitizing of the duct work as i didn't observe those being done. So they conveniently called me the next morning (12/20) asking if I wanted them to drive out a furnace filter. To which I said, at this point I'll just stop on the way home. I then asked if they could confirm that they cleaned the dryer vent and sanitized the ductwork. The guy had to transfer me. So the next guy, I asked the same questions. He quickly responded, well did you ask them? I said they were in too much of a hurry to leave and I just need to know so when I write my review I could state what they did or did not do. He said, sir if we didn't do something then we'd be happy to come out and fix it. I said that's fine let me know. Tomorrow will be 7 weeks of silence; I've not heard back from them. So since AngiesList has reminded me to write a review I'm writing it. I still don't know if they performed all services as I paid for at this point in time.
Description of Work: I bought the a Big Deal that included - "This coupon includes cleaning and sanitizing of unlimited supply vents, unlimited return vents, main supply ducts, main return ducts, access panels & blower cleaning per furnace/system plus cleaning of 1 dryer vent. Also included is an 18-Point Furnace Tune-Up for overall safe operation!" As far as I know, the furnace tune-up happened and the duct cleaning. (more details below)

I am sorry about the confusion and delayed response to your situation. I would be happy to send a technician out free of charge to make sure your dryer vent was cleaned. I am sure the sanitzing was done because that is part of every duct cleaning we perform. The dryer vent cleaning was an addition to the Angies List Special and because you were unable to verify with our office that it was done I would really like to send someone out to make sure it was done. I am not sure about the generator issue because they have the generators on the trailer and the fumes never come into the house although if they did we are very sorry about that. Please contact us at your convenience to set up a time to come out. Customer satisfaction is our number one goal and whatever we can do to make this a better experience with our company we will do.
