Functional Floors

The floors were finished but to this date there are still circle spots that are still visible. We had them come back and to redo the several areas throughout the house and they are still visible to this day. For the amount of money spent I expected a better results.

The provider sanded down our floors and applied a tinted color a couple of shades ligher than what was originally requested even though they said they had that color in their work tools. With that said, we were happy with the work and the advice that was given in the manner of care. They have us an idea of the process prior to the job and we were aware of what was to be expected prior, during and after the floor finishing. A few weeks after the refinishing, we are happy with the results. The floor looks great!

Work is scheduled to be started on 09/16. Having three bedrooms a hallway and the living room re-finished. I don't believe the floors have been touched since about 1959. Will update review after work is completed. 09/18/13. Floors have been sanded, stained and first coat of Poly all done by Drew and Mike. Every time I stopped in they told me what process they were in the midst of and working their tales off. They are a great crew Chris. 09/19/13. Second coat of Poly applied today by John. He called me to tell me his expected arrival time. Floors look great. One more final coat tomorrow and I will report on the end result. So far I am more then satisfied with the quality, service and price provided by Functional Floors. 09/20/13; Floors were completed today and they look outstanding. Chris, Drew, Mike and John were very professional. It is great to see a group of guys take such pride in their work. I will be recommending this company to the general contractor that did the work on my kitchen. My contractor does not re-finish floors but he is looking for a reputable company. Functional Floors in my opinion is top notch and very reputable. Great Job...... Pete

FF was very meticulous in sealing off the area to prevent dust from spreading throughout the house. Some of the mitre joints didn't get cleaned out. It took several days for the fumes to disipate. Overall, the floor looks pretty good.

They were very efficient and they cleaned up. They were also very friendly.

The men did a good job, they were on time, very professional, and left our home clean.

From the moment Chris Franklin walked in the door, I knew this was going to go well. Chris walked in with an album of some of the work he & his crews had done. He examined the flooring in my house & helped me to decide on colors & finishes with his recommendations based on my furniture and the fact that I have an 80lb retriever who lives with me. There was no sales pressure during his presentation. He wrote up two different estimates and told me to call whenever I wanted to schedule the work to be done. Once I called, I was able to schedule the work to be done within the next couple of weeks. The crew was polite and courteous. "Doc" explained the steps of refinishing and approximately how long they would be working at my house each day. I had no concerns with leaving the crew in my house while I went to work. They called each day to tell me they were through for the day and would lock up. I had pulled up the carpet about nine yrs ago so the floors had taken plenty of abuse including spots that were totally bleached out. Yes, chlorine bleach. Visitors are amazed at how beautiful the floors look and so am I. I also love how much easier the floors are to keep clean. I would definitely recommend Functional Floors & Finishing.

They were there on time everyday. They worked us into their schedule because we were kind of last minute.

I received two quotes for refinishing hardwood floors of a newly purchased house and selected Functional Floors based on competitive pricing, availability based on my schedule, and reasonably solid reviews on Angie's List. I was told at the time of the quote that the job would be straight-forward and could be completed in three days, and I scheduled to have Functional Floors refinish my hardwood prior to moving in so that the house would be empty and free of furniture. I felt comfortable with the gentlemen initially dispatched for the job on Day #1, although they indicated at the very beginning of Day #2 that they would need an extra day to finish. We had built our own contingency day into the schedule and agreed to the extra day but were pretty aggravated when the crew was pulled by Functional Floors at the beginning of Day #3 and a replacement crew did not arrive until 2PM that afternoon. By Day #4, sanding was complete and both coats of poly had been applied, but the shoe molding had not yet been installed, which stretched the schedule out another day. When I arrived to the house on Day #5 to see the results of the refinishing (I had not been able to walk through the house for two days with wet poly on the floors), I was mortified to find that replacement boards of a mismatched wood had been installed in several areas on the main floor -- not only had the mismatched wood been installed by the first crew working in the house but it was not corrected by the second crew before two coats of poly were applied. Repairs and more poly were required, which pushed the schedule out to a 6th and then 7th day before floors were complete and shoe molding installed. A simple 3-day job became a stressful 7-day ordeal. Because of the reapplication of poly on the main floor on Day #6, we could not get into the house until the day before our move (during which shoe molding was still being installed), requiring the full move into the house to be completed in one day and causing even more stress. The gentlemen we worked with was apologetic and did grant a 5% price decrease (although we had to request it). At the end of the day, the floors look good, though we did find wood filler in two rooms, when we had specifically indicated to the first team that we would prefer to pay extra for replacement boards rather than use wood filler to repair any holes (information like this gets lost when teams are replaced and schedules slip). If quality of work is your only concern, Functional Floors can do the job; but keep them accountable to their commitments and maintain a careful watch on the progress of your floors if schedule matters to you at all.

It went well, except it took two days instead of one to complete the job, which I was not prepared for because I had to go to work and find someone else to be there upon their return. They showed up later than scheduled on the first day. The job they did was excellent and I was well pleased. The price range was reasonable and well worth the service provided.

The service that they provided me went fair and the quality was fair. They were good about resolving my issues. I did pay them extra for additional work that they provided me.

Floors look great. The staff was responsive and friendly. They did leave behind quite a bit of dust and scratched the newly painted trim throughout the home. It was not a major problem, I just wasn't expecting that. Overall, a great job.

Overall it ended well. We are very pleased with the the appearance of the floor. The estimate by Chris Franklin was handled promptly and professionally. The estimate was competitive and I had confidence in the company, in part because of good reviews on Angie's List. They completed all work as promised with the quality I expected. Even though they kept the open end of the room covered with plastic, we did expect extra dust in the house from the sanding. The workers took care to minimize the dust, and we were pleasantly surprised that we found no additional dust at all. There was an issue and some concerns that came up during the floor finishing process. The issue was that the drive belt on the floor sander broke shortly after sanding was begun, and they don't carry a spare belt. I was told that belts just "never" fail. The worker took a long lunch to buy a replacement belt. The replacement broke within a couple of minutes. I then found that they didn't know the part number or even the exact size of the proper belt for the sander. The replacement was a bit of a guess and it had been a little too long. That ended the work for the day and extended the entire job by a day, which caused some re-scheduling for me. The next morning the worker stopped at an auto supply store and went through belts until one was found that seemed to fit. (Apparently the specification for the proper length was still an unknown.) It surprises me that every truck wouldn't carry a proper spare belt. Belts may not break all that often, but the potential cost in lost time and inconvenience to the customer outweighs the cost of a few spare belts. Not being prepared seems a bit unprofessional. The concerns relate to being unprepared and internal communication. The worker who arrived the first day wasn't told that a floor repair was to be made (he thought he "had a few boards on the truck"), that the floor was to be stained (he thought he "had some stain on the truck"), or the proper quantity of shoe molding. Also, he didn't carry a work light needed on a dark winter morning or a proper saw to cut flooring. As it turned out he did happen to have sufficient supplies, but on the first day of work it caused me concern as to how the job would go. (He didn't need the stain because the sander belt broke and he couldn't finish the sanding.) I rated my experience an "A" because "all's well that ends well". The workers were experienced, the workmanship was excellent, and they were friendly and pleasant to deal with. I could have used a little less drama getting to the end.

It went well It did take an extera day but it was well worth the money!!

They were reliable enough that I gave them a key to my house and they installed it while I was out of town. There were a couple minor things that I needed to be fixed and they came back promptly to fix everything.

they were punctional and answered all my questions. after sanding they came back next morning and put one coat of sealer on,then came back next day and put another coat down. the only downfall would be the amount of dust,but the floors look excellent

I looked on Angie's List for companies and saw that Functional Floors(FF) was rated high. FF also had a coupon of nearly half off for 100 sq. ft. . My room was 196 sq. ft., bigger than what the coupon covered so I had to pay regular price for half the room. That was still considerably cheaper than any other company on Angie's List. A young man came to my home and looked at my floor. He quoted the price, I agreed. We agreed on a date about two weeks in the future. I began pulling up the rug and moving furniture a few days before the date. He called the night before the date to confirm. One young man came at 9 AM. He had to hook up to the electric line because I don't have a 220? line. He knew what he was doing. He worked straight through until about noon. He sanded and put on the first coating. The next afternoon another young man came and put on the second coating in about one hour. I gave him a check and the coupon that I purchased from Angie's. The following day, today 5/15, the floor was dry and I began putting my furniture back in with felt sliders on the legs. The room looks awesome to me. I am very happy with it and I might do another room in 6-12 mos. I hope to get the same deal.

Chris agreed to extend his normal range and come to give us a quote. He was very professional and was even early for the quote. He gave me a very competitive price, so we decided that he was our guy. Chris sent Jake and crew on the start date, and they were there when they said they would be as well. From start to finish, jake was very professional and very thorough! He kept me informed at every step he was performing and even spent many long nights to make sure his work complete and perfect. My floors are done and are absolutely beautiful!! Thank you Chris and functional floors for taking on my floors and a special thanks to Jake and crew for doing such an awesome job!!

Decided on a time which was 3 or 4 weeks from the time I called (after purchasing Angie's Big Deal). They kept the date agreed to, arrived promptly, and did the work. The only hard thing about my experience was finding help removing furniture. The company was great and the floor looked wonderful when they finished and still does many months later.

They did an excellent job removing an old dark stain and many chatter marks from our bedroom floor and refinishing it in a clear semi-gloss finish, it looks great, will be using them again for other parts of our house.

Great service, the floors look great. Would use again in a heartbeat. Always on time, and the work was done quickly and the floors looks better than expected.

Sales rep and owner came to house and gave estimate and explanation of process and target date. He was helpful, knew his business. First worker came alone and did the sides near the wall. Second worker came and joined the first. They did the rest of floor and put down first coat finish. Second coat was to be done the next day. Things went down hill from there. Next day worker did not show. Got a call from supervisor around 5pm looking for the no show worker. I advised super of no show. Super came out about 6pm with his young son and finished the job. I appreciated his effort to finish the job. My wife and I we're admiring the nice floor and noticed scrapes on the wall from the sander of buffer. It required elbow grease and painting to cover it up.

The job went very well. The company was very efficient, professional, and the work they did was great.
