Functional Floors

The floors are not level, there are gaps in the wood, they damaged door frames and other things throughout the home while performing the work.

They did a good job and came back for some minor adjustments.

Functional Floors and Finishing was timely, responsive and professional throughout the process. I was able to schedule an appointment time for estimate that met my needs, the estimator was on time (actually, called and came early!). My job was scheduled in a timely manner, the crew was punctual, the floors look great and there was no mess to clean up.

It went fine. They only had to replace one board. We had water damage in the hall but, due to the darker stain, John was able to sand it all out and it looks great!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Matt (and Will) were punctual, polite, friendly, informative, honest (there was an unanticipated extra rebuild needed in the entryway), and did a fabulous job, within the estimated timeframe, even with the unexpected work and a weather-related power outage. I cannot possibly imagine being more pleased with the result. My husband was very on the fence about this project; he, too, is very, very pleased with the result.

Functional Floors refinished my red oak hardwood floors and they are beautiful. They did quality work, the price was fair, the staff was great and we are very happy with the result. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Functional floors evaluated the property and gave me a decent estimate. On the chosen day, they arrived promptly, did their job and cleaned up after themselves. I was very happy with the quality of work and the price.

There were numerous pet stains and they were up front with me about the possibility that they couldn't get them out by sanding alone, and that it might be necessary to replace some boards. Fortunately, that was not necessary and the floors are beautiful. Extremely professional and did an excellent job.

The final bill ended up substantially more than the estimate. Gaps were left at the baseboard molding that were too large for the shoe molding to cover. Damage was done to the freshly painted walls in various places and the clean up was not sufficient.

The people at Functional Floors were so responsive and responsible. They did excellent work and arranged for the moving of the furniture in and out of the rooms. The floors are beautiful and their choices with regard to our fireplace and our finishings were perfect. We could not have asked for a better outcome nor a better price. They were on time, friendly, and efficient.

This COULD HAVE been A-B ratings across the board. The refinished floors look [almost] perfect, the work was done in a [mostly] timely manner, and the staff and workers were courteous and friendly. BUT. The estimate was not written clearly - it noted an "Angie's List coupon" (no amount) and itemized totals for the sanding, polyurethane, and shoe moulding. We wrongly and I guess now a little stupidly assumed that the coupon would be a credit against the charges without having the estimate totaled up. Our BIG mistake. We learned after the work was completed that the Angie's List credit was already figured into the other charges (still seems like a strange as I write this). So the job ended up costing a whopping $585 MORE than we were expecting (the Angie's List discount amount). This when my wife and I BOTH confirmed the total cost with the salesman (after pulling out our phones to add up the cost). Like I said, we ASSUMED the Angie's list discount would be credited against the total, and that total, less the credit, jibed with what I was expecting based on other reviews and online research. Shame on us for not making sure the estimate clearly spelled out the total charges AND credits. The billing practices were VERY misleading and soured our experience with both Angie's List and Functional Flooring. Chris, the manager at FF, was friendly enough to deal with, explained the bill, and "graciously" offered a 5% discount for the misunderstanding - but the extra, unexpected $500+ charge still stings, and we still feel like we were taken advantage of.... a bit cheated. What a bad way to leave things. My original review was only going to suggest improved communication around the time each day the crew would be coming, and perhaps a little bit more attention to detail for some stray particles in the finish. But I can't fully recommend this contractor with a clear conscious and a sterling review as I wanted to -- If you decide to use Functional Flooring, BE CAREFUL that you have the total costs and credits SPELLED OUT CLEARLY on the estimate!

They did a beautiful job. In fact I stepped on the floor at my front door before it was dry and left 2 foot prints. They came back out and repaired it.

They responded to our request for an estimate immediately, their price was very competitive, and they had a crew available the next day to begin work. The crew was punctual, and worked every day until the job was done. The crew was not very detail-oriented - sanding in corners, filling holes from tack strips, and refining a transition strip they installed would have made this an "A" job.

Steve who came to give me an estimate on the hardwood floors was very professional. He did send an estimate 2 days later. He explained what kind and how much work needed to be done since I had tiles. Mary in the front office was also good. I would definitely recommend.

Functional Floors did an excellent job on my wood floor project. They were very professional from the estimate through installation. The price quoted was the price I paid. The team that worked on my house (Angle and Brian) were friendly and professional. They answered all my questions, took time to explain everything they were doing and called me right away when they were done. The floors look beautiful and they were done two full days earlier than quoted. I would recommend them to anyone.

Estimating process was easy...professional estimators walked us through the process and our options. They assured us that "Functional Floors" had the right people with the right skills to refinish the "thin veneer, Engineered Hardwood" Floors which were, admittedly, in horrible shape after years of wear and tear. The scheduling process went seamlessly...no problem. The fun began when the 2 man team showed up on the scheduled morning (we had already prepared all areas and scheduled a hotel for 4 days). The work crew became obstinate and told me that the floor was beyond saving..that the estimators never should have even accepted the job. They were quite assertive in their belief that the floor would look horrible and that we would hate the results if we tried. They suggested that we give up and look at a new hardwood floor (not in the plan or budget). My heart sank but I stood my ground and told them to do the best they could. Thankfully the story had a happy ending...which is why I still give functional floor high marks and would recommend them to others. We reviewed the work after day one...the floor looked great. Most of the bad areas sanded away. The area was well protected and taped. Several boards needed replacing (thankfully we still had some of the original boards in the basement). We marked the bad boards and left. The rest of the job went without a hitch. They suggested a natural finish (much like our original) but with a water based, harder, poly finish. Looks great and seems very durable. High marks for their abilities and skill. A bit of a rough start when the team arrived and argued over our direction....

Functional Floors is incredibly professional and honest. They gave me a great price and were very communicative throughout the process. I would certainly give this company the highest of recommendations for your flooring needs.

The workers were wonderful and so well prepared for the work. The foreman at the job was excellent. He answered our questions and made some great suggestions. They did a special job and have transformed our home. In addition, the manager is still there should we have any concerns or questions.

The entire job was more than I could have ever hoped for. Matt is great and definitely is a master of his trade. He arrived on time every day, and was great at communicating through the entire process. He applied no stain to the floor until he was 100% satisfied with the condition of the wood. He performed a replacement of 15 boards and you can not even tell what was replaced. The flooring is beautiful and in better condition that I could have ever expected. Matt takes pride in his work, hand rubs the stain so he gets down to see if there are any issues, and the quality shines through!

Functional Floors did a fantastic job for a reasonable price. Highly recommend.
