+ -1 moreI felt it was time to replace the sump pump aIthough it was working fine at the time. I called on a Monday and was told someone could be out the next day to give me an estimate- and I was asked if AM or PM was more convenient. I got a call at about 8 AM and was told someone would be out directly. The serviceman arrived in about 15 minutes and immediately helped me locate the water valve. The serviceman then gave me options on replacing and installing a backup. The replacement was about $350 and installing a backup was about $1400. I elected to skip the backup and simply replace the pump. He installed the sump pump taking about 1 hour. The serviceman then told me that there was a one year warrenty. A good experience except after he left I found he left nothing regarding the new pump he installed.

+ -1 moreWe had a problem with water coming into our basement from the floor drain as a result of frozen ground and heavy rain. We tried to clean it up ourselves, but it kept coming. We called late afternoon and after a very busy day for them, they came at 11:00pm and determined our P-trap in the drain was clogged. They snaked it out for us and gave us tips on how to avoid this in the future. They also gave us some information about future basement remodeling projects involving plumbing.
Description of Work: We had to have our basement floor drain snaked to clear a clogged p-trap.

+ -1 moreI noticed wet carpeting in our basement and alerted my husband. Turns out the pipe connected to our main floor toilet was gushing water during flushing. This job was beyond hubby's expertise. We remembered Michigan Plumbing's radio ad, "open 24/7" We did have to wait 3 hours for the technician to arrive, but he did a great job. He did go through the best/worst case scenerio with my husband (clogged pipes/need new drain field), and my husband did do the digging to uncover our septic tank. Fortunately, that was ok. The tech used a snake and dislodged a RAG. Have no idea how long it's been in the system. Anyway, the job was complete in a little over 2 hours. A piece of pipe was replaced (from toilet to drain), and the tech said the our system is in good shape. The tech (Kevin) was very pleasant. Been doing this type of work for 18 years.

+ -1 morePrice too high. Gave me a price of $10,000 and did not include setting toilet, sink or shower. Tri-County charged me $6,300.00 and that included setting toilet, sink and shower and capped old pipes and put in new line. Also found sand and oil put down drain and cleaned drain. Also set all new appliances in kitchen(dishwasher and refrigerator and also hooked up washer in laundry room). Camera check was performed excellent but services were more pricey than competitor. Told me what needed to be done so I used competitor.

water heater repair
+ -1 morecalled Michigan plumbing because the water heater was not producing hot water on Christmas eve at 330 PM. They came and fixed it promptly. They replaced a dielectric union (or two) that was causing a leak and a short in the ignition sequence controller. They charged $311.00 for this work. I looked at the cost of the new water heater after they left and found that I could have purchased a new one for the price they charged me forreplacing a dielectric union (a $5 part) .

Description of Work: Michigan Plumbing installed a sink in the bathroom. What I did not like about Michigan Plumbing is that they would not give me an estimate over the telephone. They wouldn't even give me a ballpark figure. They said they had to come out to house and then give you an estimate. I later found out I could have gotten the work done for much cheaper. The quality of the work was good I must admit.

+ -1 moreThe plumber arrived on time, was courteous and knowledgeable. He determined the problem was the cartridgein the facuet and he replaced it. I had to have this same repair done in July to a different faucet and I was very surprised that the cost of the same repair had gone up $45 I did have a coupon that I told the scheduler about and I am wondering if the price went up because I had a coupon. So I was happy with the service, but their prices are just to high. I recentlly needed another faucet fixed and called another plumber I found on Angie's list and he was much more reasonable.

Description of Work: Kitchen drain was backed up and liquid plumber had no effect. The drain was blocked way down the line, they used the motorized auger to open it up. The repair person arrived the same day that I called, was professional, cleaned up after himself.

+ 0 moreAWESOME! Meticulous and very friendly young man came to do the work. These were BAD drains, and when he left we had no evidence he'd been here. Everything was clean and neat, sparkling in fact. Drains have worked very well ever since. We had to call them back (my bad, hair in the bathtub drain) and they came immediately, showed me the problem, corrected it, showed me how to avoid it and left. No charge. Again, friendly, efficient and clean. Use this company!
Description of Work: All our drains were cleaned. 3 bathtubs, 1 shower, 6 sinks. Our house had been empty before we bought it, and drains were all very slow, and we tried to clear them for several years ourselves with no luck. In desperation, I called this company, that was recommended to us.

After misdiagnosing the problem, charging another $650, my wife and I are worried what we will find next that they "missed" upon initial inspection and estimate. Our ceiling and drywall is a mess after the holes they tore into them after their first screw up. Not pleased at all! As an update, the company president did follow up by coming to our house and inspecting the work performed and reviewing procedures. He did issue a refund of the initial cost and admitted the repairman was not as thorough as he should have been for the initial diagnosis. Good to know that somebody still stands behind their work!
Description of Work: We called to have repair done on our water softener supply line and two toilet drains. The technician showed up towards the end of the expected window and took a decent amount of time to diagnose the problems and give an estimate of $650. I figured this was reasonable, although a bit high. I was grateful to have the work done by a pro, however, and we agreed. The repairs were completed within a reasonably short amount of time, or so we thought. On Sunday morning, however, we noticed the upstairs toilet was still leaking. We called and the same technician arrived on Monday. We were informed that, unfortunately, he had misdiagnosed the problem on Friday and this repair was going to run another $650. Of course, that doesn't include the ceiling and drywall repair I now have to pay to repair the holes he tore into them to fix this new proble. Obviously their ability to diagnose is called into question, as is their willingness to stand behind their work. We will never use them again because we are afraid to find another scenario that turns into an ongoing or misdiagnosed situation. I'm not sure how many of us would be willing to give a plumber unfettered/continuing access to our bank account! Avoid these guys like the plague!

+ -1 moreThey did the repair just fine, but did significant damage to my bank account. This simple repair should have cost about $100. I work with a lot of plumbers since I own rental properties. I consulted a number of other area plumbers that I work with and they all quoted under a hundred for this kind of job. Michigan Plumbing practices highway robbery as well as plumbing. I will not call them ever again.
Description of Work: While re-roofing our duplex, my roofers apparently hit the vent stack which broke the kitchen sink drain from the main drain line. When my upstairs tenant did his dishes, water rained down all over the first floor kitchen. Michigan Plumbing responded to a call from me (I was out of town) to do an emergency call at about 6:30pm. They responded and fixed the pipe - they simply glued a new piece of plastic pipe in to the broken piece. They were on site less than 45 minutes and didn't even have to crawl under a sink, since the pipes were located in a dormer storage area. The $365 charge was outrageous. Don't let Michigan Plumbing do any work unless you know how much they are going to charge. Since I was out of town, and couldn't reach my regular plumbers. There are plenty of good plumbers in Lansing and NONE of them will charge what Michigan Plumbing does.

+ -1 moreI was attempting a diy project and thought i had turned the water off (i was replacing a shutoff valve in the upstairs bathroom. turns out the master emergency water shutoff in the basement was rusted out! so water started gushing out like a firehose - it was my bad for assuming the water was off. anyway after freaking out for 10 minutes and trying to figure out something to do, called michigan plumbing and they diverted a driver for this emergency situation. he showed up about 15-20 minutes later - it seemed like 15-20 hours to me as i was doing my best to win a losing battle with a firehose. just as he arrived i had thought to open everything up in the house to lessen the water pressure and then i was able to screw back on the leaking shutoff i had originally intended to replace. the guy came in and surveyed the situation, confirmed the rusted out emergency valve and also showed me the lbwl shutoff too. very professional, very compassionate, and very prompt. thanks again! things are still drying out...

+ -1 moreCalled them the morning of the 16th requesting three valves be replace in our bathroom. One to the toilet and two to the sink. They said they could send someone out that day. The lady at the office called sometime later and informed me that the first service man's truck broke down and that they would send another. After some more time they called back to inform me that the first service man's truck was back on the road and would be there in 20 to 30 minutes. At that time I asked if the Angie's coupon for $35 was good and they said it was. The first and the second service men showed up approx 30 minutes later. They took about 30 minutes to replace the valve on the toilet and check the other two. The other two were fine and did not need to be replaced. He checked the aerator on the faucet and foud it clogged. They checked for any leaks. I paid by check and forgot about the coupon. I also asked them advice about replacing the toilet float and they said what I bought was fine.When I realized I forgot the coupon I called and asked if I could get credit for it even though I paid by check. They said yes and sent me a check for $35. We received the check a few days later

+ 0 moreI started by calling around to different plumbers and big box stores to get quotes for water heaters because I thought ours was shot. I called Michigan Plumbing because we had used them before and received excellent service from them. While on the phone with the person answering, she said they had a truck in the area and would be at our house within an hour, and they were! Two plumbers showed up. They quickly diagnosed the problem and found that a part that ignites the burner in the heater was bad. They replaced the part and only charged me $55.00 for the repair! They do not charge by the hour or charge a travel fee or holiday or weekend premiums. They charge you based on the rate as printed in their rate book, that's it! They also evaluated my water heater and said that it was in excellent shape and will continue to work for many years. Great service at a great price! I'm loving' it!!

+ -1 moreCalled their business and asked for an estimate which they said they couldn't give me without seeing the situation first. Sent a technician out within an hour. That was great. He looked at the tub and told me it would be $200.00! That is an outrageous amount. Even with the Angies's List discount it still was going to cost me $162.00. If I hadn't been so tired of looking at the standing water I would have sent him on his way and called someone else for another estimate (that's on me). He did a great job; wore booties over his shoes to protect my floors. It took him no more than 15 minutes; used a small machine to clear the drain. Overall a great experience, but their prices are ridiculous!!

I called another company that could not come till the next morning but I couldn't wait and joined Angie's List to find a reputable plumber. Melissa answered the phone professionally and in a friendly manner as well. She wrote down the things I told her and relayed the message to the techs. Then she called back to let me know a crew was on the way. It was quick from inital phone call to arrival at my door as well. I was satisfied with the job that Michigan Plumbing did. I would recommend them to friends.
