They have done additional work. They did flooring in a rental property we own. It was January 2016. It went excellent. He was great as ever so we decided to use him again. They were fast. They were on time. They are very reasonable with their price. I had a really excellent experience with them. It cost between 5 and 7 thousand dollars.
Description of Work: They sanded down all wooden floors in a two story duplex.

The job took about a week to finish. The floors looked great for about 1 month. Then the wood turned black on the ends again. There are also multiple gaps between the boards (along the length of the boards) that were never there before. Many edges along the lengths of the boards are now raised and catch my socks. Andy said there is not much he can do but he hasn't even bothered to come back out and look for himself. End result is worse than what I started with. Also, there are still drips of sealant on my counter tops.
Description of Work: Had my wood floors in the kitchen, dining area, hallway and laundry room sanded and refinished approximately 6 months after they were water-damaged.

Response from Rivertown Flooring
I went out to look at this job, there are many things I'd like to say about the situation. First, I walked in and was shocked at what I saw, "a beautifully finished hardwood floor"! I have been in business for 30 years, I will be the first to admit when I screw something up, but here, and I'm being very honest, no. My big mistake here was taking the job. They say you need references from your contractors, sometimes contractors have the misfortune of walking into a situation not knowing that they are going to work for someone with unrealistic expectations, sometimes people won't be happy with you "no matter what you do".the problem is you have no way of knowing this until after the fact. The second thing on this job is, the customer was not accurate in her description of the extent of previous water damage that had occurred prior to my taking the job. The water damage was not just near the door and window, but it extended out to the middle of the room. The third thing, she said the floor looked fine for a month, and then it changed, I have no control over atmospheric conditions on a jobsite after I leave. I did not install this floor, it was existing, I have no control over how it was nailed or glued down. If it was fine when I finished it and after, something must have happened after I left, again-I cannot control what happens after I leave. The forth thing, I offered to fix the area ( and the area is confined to an area where the table sits (not "all over", as she stated), I told her I would fill the gaps that opened up between the boards. Even though this had nothing to do with my sand and finish job. I try to go the extra mile for any and every person I've ever worked for! Sometimes and for some people, that's never enough! The other thing is, she didn't even find me on Angie's list, I was referred to her by another wood floor contractor who obviously has More brains than I have (by not wanting the job), I told her I was on Angie's list (mistake), she jumped all over the opportunity to assassinate my credibility. Well, it worked! I hope you are pleased with yourself! I have not had 1 call or email from any Angie's list client since you post your review, mission accomplished! You know? Well I guess you don't , I'm a family man, I have a wife and two pre teens to raise, if anyone bothers to look past this savage review, they would see that I'm a good man! An honest and thoughtful man, and a hard worker. I know sometimes people just have bad chemistry between them, like they say, you can't please all the people all the time. I did a good job on this floor!

Andy is an exceptional contractor. He was extremely responsive and professional. He returned my initial message within the day and gave me an accurate estimate over the phone. He began work when he said he would, and was flexible with my timeline. The quality of his work is very good. My home has several holes and damaged boards that needed to be repaired or replaced, which Andy handled as part of the job. I was very pleased with the experience and would recommend him to anyone!

I don't think it could have gone any better!! We were very pleased with the entire experience! Andy was prompt with an estimate; worked us quickly into his schedule; was courteous and personable; kept us informed on details; made practical suggestions; kept the work site clean, was particular about his workmanship; stayed on-the-job until completion; and stayed true to his estimate. The floors turned out amazing! This house had been a rental and we pulled up the very stained carpet and found beachwood flooring underneath. It was in pretty rough shape. Lots of paint, water stains and even some spacing between boards that had been wet. Andy filled the spaces and assorted holes; and sanded almost every blackened area out. He replaced a couple boards and did an excellent job with that as well. He provided extra trim and made a "border" around the fireplace that looks much nicer than the original raw flooring edge. We would not hesitate to call Andy again...and would recommend him to friends.

Andy did a fantastic job of refinishing our floors. We have wood floors that are over 100 years old and Andy took great care to sand them down and refinish them. They look beautiful. Andy also took extra care to sand paint off of on set of flooring so we could put down a new stain and poly that really made the floors stand out. We still have stairs to get done ventually and when we do, we'll contact Andy to get them done right.
Description of Work: Resurfaced all wood floors in the house. Also repaired floors where needed.

This is a glowing review - if you need a quick assessment, I would say that you should absolutely, hands down, use Rivertown Flooring as your hardwood refinishing contractor. For more details, see below. From the very beginning, our experience with Andy was stellar. We called Rivertown Flooring as well as a couple other hardwood refinishers in the area to get quotes. Andy answered the phone immediately, and was able to come that same day and view our home for a quote. Our house had original hardwood floors that were exposed in some areas (bedrooms, hallway, entryway) and covered in others (carpet in living room, tile in dining room). Our floors presented a number of challenges because of this. The tile in the dining room was laid directly on to the hardwood floors with thinset without any concrete board or paper barrier. This meant that when we pulled up the tile (which was all cracked from being laid so incorrectly), the thinset stayed adheared to the hardwood floor surface beneath. The living room had carpet laid over the existing hardwoods. It was only stapled to runner boards along the edges of the room, so there was no glue to remove, but many small staple/nail holes in the hardwoods beneath around the perimiter. There were also two sizable water or urine stains in one area of the living room from a previous owner. The entry way, halls and bedrooms were in decent condition, but worn and discolored in areas of high traffic. Andy took all of this into consideration for generating the quote which he provided to us the next day via email. While inspecting the house, he even took time to demonstrate tools and techniques for removing the thinset from the hardwoods in the dining room ourselves, which saved us a ton of money and time. His quote was very reasonable, and we were impressed with him enough to choose him as the contractor for this job. By the time we were ready to begin having Andy do the refinishing, it was about a month after he had given us his quote. Nonetheless, he knew immediately who I was and what house I was refering to when I called to schedule him to begin. We were anxious to begin ASAP so we could get the house listed, and happily for us Andy was able to squeeze us in a begin the next day. We were not living in the house, and had all of our things out of the areas being refinished (save an old upright piano which luckily Andy was able to work around until we had it moved out that evening). We provided him with a key to the house as well as 1/2 the invoice amount (same as quote amount) on the day he started since both my husband and I work. It took approximately 2 days of sanding / wood filling / repairs and 2 days of varnishing / drying for the work to be complete. He kept us informed of his progress and timeline, and let himself in and locked up when he left as needed which was very convenient for us. The result of his work is astonishing - we never thought that the floors would end up looking so great! All of the discoloration from the thinset on the hardwoods, water/pet stains, traffic areas, etc. was gone and each room blended seamlessly into the next despite the different conditions they had been in previously. The glossy varnish showed just how even he was able to make the floors, and the color of the natural wood was preserved and highlighted. There was no other evidence of work being done (dust, scraps, damage, etc.) - Andy left the house looking sparkling new. We paid him the other half of the invoice when completed - no surprise up charges (even though I think there was more damage repair that was done that he had initially considered for the quote). In summary, Andy did an absolutely fantastic job refinishing our floors, and we our sure to get far more than we paid in value when the house goes to sale. He was so courteous and easy to work with, and made us feel very confident with the process. Definitely money well spent! Thank you, Andy and Rivertown Flooring!!
Description of Work: Andy, the owner of Rivertown Flooring, refinished the original hardwood floors in our 1940's home in preparation for us to list the home for sale. The approximate square footage of floors refinished is 700. The service included an in-home inspection and quote, sanding, wood filling and damage repair as needed, cleaning of all sanding dust created, and multiple layers of clear finish.

Andy was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was punctual, friendly and professional. He worked long hours to ensure that we were able to move into our home as planned. Many of our floors were in incredibly rough shape prior to Andy getting his hands on them. Now, they look absolutely beautiful.. I would recommend Andy to anyone and everyone. If we need any work in the future, there will be no debate as to who we hire. Thanks again, Andy!

Andy was very cordial and able to work with us since we were moving into our home at the same time that this work was occurring. All I can say is that the floors look amazing and that this guy knows what he is doing when it comes to refinishing wood floors. It isn't an overnight process and you do need to remove everything from the areas being refinished, but, it's worth it. The floor was previously covered with carpet in three bedrooms, the hallway and a runner on the stairs. There were a TON of tack strips and staples which we took out ourselves, but, it left a lot of holes in the wood floor. Andy had to spend some extra time filling those in, but, it turned out great! If you have wood floors that you are anxious to return to like new condition, Andy is your guy. We are looking forward to one day having him back at our home to refinish the first floor wood floors.

Aside from starting a day late and a tight timetable, the job went very well. We were up against a tight schedule for moving in, and thus I scheduled this job months in advance. Despite this, they started a day late. The floors are supposed to dry for at least a full day before walking on them, but Andy stayed late and got the job done in the nick of time. They turned out beautiful, just wish they could have done a better job with the dust prevention (their web site advertises this service, but we didn't get the treatment and we were left with a lot of saw dust in the house to clean up). They also did not reinstall the shoe trim (I found one piece broken). All of this may have just been due to the tight schedule I asked them to meet. I also wish we had the opportunity to select stain color in advance of the job. This was a quick decision I had to make at the end of the job without my wife there (very stressful)! I thought the price was fair for the quality of work ($2.65/s.f.). Andy is a very nice person!

I put $1.00 in the cost of service because I'm here to tell you what a Fantastic job he did, not how much I spent. I don't feel that is anyone's business besides mine. When Andy said he would be there on the job, he was there! When a problem came up or a difference in what could be done and what was desired, his suggestions were much better than what we wanted. It turned out much better than we imagined in many cases where we thought it would be b.etter. But as i said, his suggestion(s) were much more desirable and acceptable. The time and money spent with Andy could not have been better managed and appreciated. For you that are considering Lumber liquidator after reading the "fine print" on payment schedule, please call Rivertown to get a second opinion!! You won't regret it. And to Andy,,,, THANK YOU SO MUCH. See you again when we do the bedrooms
Description of Work: Andy of Rivertown came in for free estimate and I must say even with the sunken living room we have was very accurate with his amount of hardwood to purchase. This saved us a lot of money and have very little waste. He also laid down close to 900 sq/ft of Brazilian Teak hardwood, to include angled steps and HAND manufactured rounded edges for the steps entering the living room. His layout and selection of pieces to for the floors was OUTSTANDING. Where the wood met the walls that were not quite close enough to be covered by baseboard, Andy milled individual small strips to fit these tight areas to fit perfectly.

Andy was awesome. Flooring is a big investment and we wanted it done right. He took the time to get it right, figuring out how to get the long line from kitchen, through living area and down the hall straight as an arrow ? and it is. He opened several boxes at a time and "blended" the wood so that the overall color and patterns work beautifully throughout. He gave our project his individual attention. There was no "crew" sent over to throw the wood down and nail it. If you want the best quality for your project, you will want Andy. You may save a little bit by going with the big box store installers, but it wouldn't be worth it. You won't get the individual attention, quality of workmanship, and attention to detail that Andy provides. We couldn't be happier with the work, and would recommend Andy to anyone who asked us about an installer for wood flooring.

This summer I oversaw roughly $80,000.00 worth of renovation to our historic and beautiful church. Of all the contractors hired, Andy was by far the most conscience, attentive, detailed and actually did everything he said. They even started earlier than promised. If all of the business's followed through with their promised service like Rivertown my summer would have been MUCH easier. I should also note their quote was very reasonable.

Andy is a true craftsman of his trade and is competitively priced compared to his peers. We initially chose Andy for two reasons, first his A+ reviews on Angieslist.com and second his ability to start the job within 5 days. We had 5 other contractors bid the job and all were very professional but were either to expensive ($2K more) or had scheduling conflicts (2+ week lead time). We had just taken possession of our house so we needed to have this major project completed ASAP. The job took approximately 9 days to complete. During the 10 days we had to live in a hotel for 8 days due to the dust and staining. These are conditions you and your family should not be exposed to especially for this project size (1700 sq. ft.). Smaller projects may not require alternate living accommodations. During the 10 days we communicated with Andy frequently to ensure we had no issues or time delays, he was always responsive and professional with his communication. Andy was also very accommodating with selecting the correct stain for the job. He stained three samples using our hardwood floors to make sure we were comfortable with our choice. We kept the sample to use for matching furniture, cabinets, etc. (Andy's idea). If we ever have to repeat this project again (hopefully not!) we would definitely contact Andy @ Rivertown Flooring. HE IS A TRUE CRAFTSMAN OF HIS TRADE! Thanks, Jake and Lauren
Description of Work: The provider performed three major tasks: 1.) Removed particle board (existing walls) and replaced with new hardwood floor material in master bedroom 2.) .I didn't use Rivertown Flooring. I called him, he came out, looked over the house and told me that he would give me a quote that night, but he didn't give me a quote for a week. He said that his scanner was broken so he couldn't get the quote sent to me. I got 2 quotes for the refinishing floors at my old house from companies found on Angies list. We were preparing to sell and wanted a fresh look. I went with Rivertown because the owner seemed more personable than the larger company. He was also half the price. He told me he was very busy and couldn't get there for 5 weeks but would put me on a fill in list if a hole in his schedule opened up. 3 weeks later such a hole opened and he promptly notified me and arranged to do the work over the course of 3 days. I was amazed at the quality I got. He is a true pro. Best contractor I've ever dealt with. He did what he said he would do and more. At one point he asked me about a small detail near the fireplace I had overlooked. I told him to do whatever was easiest for him. He said "I don't like to go down that road, what would you most like to see", and then he did the harder version of the task so that it turned out great. You should hire this man for all of your flooring needs. I'm in a new house now and will use him again when I have the money to do the new floors. Very good experience. Very responsive.

Andy responded to our request for a review of the work requested immediately and provided an estimate within two days. His knowledge of his craft and his professionalism became evident as we discussed the necessary work. The estimate was very reasonable given the amount of work needed and, as he was able to accommodate us in being able to do the job while we were on vacation, we contracted with him. We returned from our trip to find beautifully restored floors that exceeded our hopes and expectations. The repair work was seamless - Andy had integrated old and new with such craftsmanship that we, ourselves (who had lived with the disrepair for twelve years), were unable to discern the difference! The color and finish were exactly as chosen - simply amazing. Andy went above and beyond the contract in correcting areas that were not evident upon the initial visual inspection. He is a true master craftsman who we would recommend without reservation.

The price was reasonable. What I like is that the floors are beautiful. They are so beautiful and I am really impressed with that. He did an outstanding job on the floors. It was more work than what I think he quoted us. We gave him more because we felt he under quoted, but he did a good job. What I wasn’t happy about with him was that on the contract he said he was going to finish behind the appliances, but he did not do that. I pulled the appliances out, but he did not clean or redo behind the appliances; so I wasn’t happy with that. I thought it was not worth it, but I can't see it because the appliances will always be there. I didn’t want him to come back and see it and all that. Another thing was that he really covered up the house very well and I was very pleased with that, but when we took the tape off of the wall in our former dining room, the paint came off. That happens and I understand that, but he should have pointed it out to me; I discovered that on my own. I am ready to pay to fix it, but he should have told me that he put some tape on the wall and when he pulled the tape off, the paint came off. It would have been okay if he would have told me that he wouldn’t do behind my appliances. If somebody called me and asked if I would hire him, I would say yes but that turned me off a little bit. He was also supposed to take the toilet off and clean around it, but I don’t think he did. I can see the stain around the toilet. Hardwood floors are really expensive, but I wanted a good job. The price would have been outstanding if he was going to remove all the appliances and take out the toilet, but he didn’t do that. He was very professional; I left him in my home for two weeks alone and I never worried about anything. I was in the state of Illinois and he was in the state of Michigan; I left him with the keys in my house all alone. When I came back, he had cleaned up. I would use him again, but I would have an in depth conversation with him and ask him to tell me exactly what he is going to do.
