Cedar Works

A great job!!!! The installer/builder was great and, to my knowledge and belief, a long term associate of Cedar Works. The deck is HUGE!! (Maybe a little too big...gonna have to buy more deck furniture) The use of LED lights at every step down is dramatic and really cool. There have been a few months since it was built and these engineered decking cleans up beautifuly with little effort.

We are extremely happy with our new Trex deck that Cedar Works built for us. From the very beginning to the very end they exceeded our expectations. They are very professional and came out for a free estimate in a very timely manner. Jamie, the owner of Cedar Works, came out to our house to take measurements and then personally designed our deck plans. We were unbelievably happy with the plans he designed for us. They were beautiful and just what we wanted. His crew was extremely professional and they kept the work area as clean as possible. They also did the job in a very timely fashion, especially for being built during the busiest time of the season! The end result was beautiful. We could not be happier. We have received so many compliments on our deck and a couple friends will be using Cedar Works to rebuild their decks next spring. We look forward to working with Jamie again in the future!

Process went smoothly. Deck was finished timely, looks great, Jamie was great to work with throughout the process.

We are delighted with the work that "Cedarworks" did at our home. The porch is wonderful. It is amazing how well the fence matches the porch.... The planning went well and they met all of our expectations. Actually, they exceeded our expectations. We can not belive how much this chnaged the front of our house. We love the Treks that were used... The porch was completed in a very timely manner. The only delay was caused by a delay waiting for permits from the city.. Jaimie was a pleasure to work with.. We would call him again, if the need arrives.

It went pretty well. We had to wait for a while because they were pretty busy, however, I think they did a pretty good job.

I am drawn to share my home story--our first using Angie?s List. Last winter, we vacillated on whether to renovate the master bath (the rationale need) or to create a screened in porch (the emotional need). But, after a year filled with the stress of caring for an ill loved one---the emotional choice kept calling, and calling. Emotion won out. The porch has become our ?go to? place to relax and renew--coffee in the morning, candle lit reading each evening. Why didn?t we do this ten years ago? Hmmm, maybe the master bath won?t have to wait so long. Cedarworks' crew was very professional and flexible with requested changes. Site was kept cleaned and work was done with precision and detail. We absolutely LOVE our new porch and decks. We can now enjoy the lower deck in the rain.

We are very happy with the deck that was constructed at our home by Cedar Works. The design of the deck is beyond anything that I initially imagined in my head when we first started this process. The deck has two levels with one level framed by a built in wood bench. The bench can easily sit 8+ people itself. We had a get together at our home with about 20 people and everyone fit on the deck all at once! Jamie answered the long list of questions I had before the construction started and was very available by phone when we needed to get in touch with him. Jamie and his staff handled the entire process with the county to obtain the builders permit -- we never had to get involved. The crew that installed the deck was very professional and did a wonderful job. I think that the overall price of the deck was a little higher than I initially expected, but the value and craftsmanship was worth it to me. I have recommended Cedar Works to others and would hire this company again.

love the deck,what a great build, alex was great.They removed some of the old concrete and built the deck to the bottom of our door wall.Probably a small job for them, 22x25, but being its our first deck it looks great. Jamie and Sam were great to work with wish I could send pictures.

They're about 80% complete and so far so good. The staff is excellent and they're very crafted. I'm spending $28000 for a deck roof and deck. You get what you pay for.

Since my last review things have been great with Cedar Works. Jamie has taken the time to design a deck that is very simple, clean, and more cost effective than any other deck builder. He knows what he is doing and you can tell he has been doing this for a while. He is very pleasant and will always take what you want into consideration. The thing that I liked most about working with Jamie is that he will not tell you something just to tell you something. He will be straight up in a very professional manner and give you his expert opinion on any situation. I will update this review after all of the work has been completed and let you know how everything went.

Jamie at Cedar Works was fantastic from day one - he had vision for how to complete this deck rebuild with a privacy screen (lattice) and overhead pergola. From the workers who removed the old deck and overhead to the clean up crew, all were exceedingly professional, polite and customer focused. The materials were beyond expectations - I've never seen such fine cedar (overhead). Aside from weather related delays - welcome to Michigan summer - the work was completed on time. Sam in the office was also a dream to work with I highly recommend Cedar Works!!

Extremely impressed with portfolio and capability during onsite visit. However, took 2 weeks and 2 follow-up calls to finally get a quote back. Chose not to utilize as quote did not provide enough detail once I received it.

Provider came to my home in a timely manner. He was supposed to then go back to his business and write up an estimate. I never received this estimate! I called his business several times to see if there was a problem, everything was supposedly ok, I would be receiving the estimate shortly. It has been six weeks and still no estimate. I don't know what the problem is. Since my original review Jamie has contacted me and apologized. I have now received the estimate and would like to change my original review to reflect this professional resolution to this oversight. Overall the Cedar Works Deck Builders seems like a good outfit and I may use them in the future.

Jamie the owner was excellent to work with. He was very quickly able to come up with a design, even on site when we first met with him. We had a lot of confidence in the fact that he knew what he was talking about. The previous deck buildings that we had talked to ended up being more that salesman type, Jamie wasn't like that at all. He was interested in what we were looking for not what he wanted to sell us. He certainly had the book of photos of other decks that he had done so we could really see the designs and colors of all those things; and with all of his help we’re able to truly come up with a design that we absolutely love. We have even had others come over and really comment on how beautiful the deck and how it thoroughly blends in with our landscaping. We asked him for referrals for both landscaping and electrician who he had worked with and he provided those names. We interviewed those people and ended up also using them, just because the package was so trustworthy. The overall group were wonderful. We highly recommend them. We are very pleased with the results. They were amazing.

Without a doubt, get an estimate from Cedar Works. I got 3 quotes...they were in the upper middle, but I felt best after meeting with the owner Jamie than I did with the others...one a little too "slick" for my tastes, and the other in a hurry to get in and out and not concerned with details. I first met with Jamie in the spring of 2012 and indicated I was planning this for the following season...2013. I am pretty detail oriented and had been thinking about replacing our old deck for 5-6 years, so I knew what I wanted and had a drawing I had been tweaking and re-thinking a lot. Even so, Jamie spent time listening to what I wanted, discussing how he would do things, etc. I called him back this spring for a follow up visit to answer a few questions, and gave him the job. Our deck is about 750-800 square feet in 3 sections at varying levels, finished with Trex. Our deck is AMAZING...exactly what I had drawn up and envisioned down to the littlest detail....one word: PERFECT! The two man crew that did the build really were experts at their trade. The detail in how they built out the rough framing, addressed challenges the right way, not just the easiest/quickest way, and the work they put into all the final finish details....I cannot say enough about how great their work and attention to those details was. Friendly, willing to discuss any questions, completely professional. We had one change I wanted on how some planter boxes were initially made which I noticed after they had finished half of them, and after I got home and they had left for the day. I brought it to Jamie's attention that evening and there was not even the slightest hesitation the next day to rip them out, and re-build them exactly the way I wanted. Some contractors when you point something out that is not quite what you want act like it's a bother, and seem to hope you will just accept it and move on. Without a doubt this cost money for wasted time/materials, but Jamie's philosophy is obviously that the customer gets what they want, and the job's not done until the customer is happy. That's how he and his workers acted from beginning to end. Any concern or detail I called Jamie about along the way was met with, "Everything will be perfect." And it was. (In fact I feel like most, if not all, of the things that I brought to Jamie's attention would have been addressed anyway, even if I had not brought them up, but nobody ever made me feel like they were annoyed by my concerns.) I hope I have the chance to recommend friends/neighbors to Cedar Works, and/or make myself available as a reference to prospective customers. They have got to be one of the, if not THE best.

We had four (!) decks on our house that were old and needed to be replaced, approximately 690 sq ft . After getting a number of quotes from local deck builders, I decided to go with Cedar Works (www.cedarworks.net). Bottom line: Jamie Ruddy and his crew did an excellent job right from the beginning. Jamie is incredibly knowledgeable about the various deck materials and the little things that make a deck look great. (We went with TREX as our deck material.) The tear-down crew were the first people on the job. They did a clean and efficient job in removing the old decks. The crew of carpenters who installed the Trex decks were the most accomplished installers I have ever come in contact with. The company that he subcontracted to do the steel spiral staircase, Casco & Sons, also did excellent work in fabricating and installing the staircase. Everyone on the job from Jamie on down were perfectionists, dedicated to doing an attention-to-detail job for me the customer. They were excellent craftsmen, punctual and cleaned up the work site when done. I could also tell that if something isn't right in the future, that Jamie will return and make it right (although that hasn't happened). Going with Cedar Works was the best decision that my wife and I have made in the home improvement area.

I couldn't be happier with my new deck! The whole project went very well from start to finish. Jamie's suggestions were well informed and helpful, and the crew were fantastic. I got the Trex Transcends, and it's really beautiful as promised. They cleaned up every last bit of mess, and even replaced my heavy grill back on the deck. I'm a very happy customer.

Overall, Cedar Works workmanship was excellent. The started on a Monday morning, set the posts, spread the fabric weed block and stone. In the afternoon started the deck and by Tuesday noon were complete. 3-4 weeks later I received all the warranty information from the material supplier.

Met with Jamie, the owner, about possible designs as we didn't really have a specific design in mind. Jamie worked with us in coming up with a design that met our needs. Cost was higher than what I originally had in mind, but based on prior Angie's List reviews, and also based on Jamie's prior design work, we were comfortable that we were going to get a quality patio/deck. From beginning of work to end encompassed about a month. There were multiple inspections to go through and electrician work, and Jamie had all these lined up. All of the work was transparent to us, and we only had to be aware one time when an electrician needed to come inside to hook up power in our basement. We are extremely happy with the end result. The 3 season room has a combination of tinted windows (bottom) and screens (tops) around the outside walls. The framework and inside walls/ceiling are done in cedar. We also had the electrician put in a ceiling fan/light. The 3 seson room is connected to the back of the house and an overhang had to be removed from the house structure to accomodate. The deck is done in latest "trex" technology (I may not have the right name for it). But we are really pleased with how it looks, and quality of work done. Both my father and father-in-law have commented on the quality of work done. We also were able to use an Angie's List discount and had lighting on the deck stairs thrown in. Only had one minor hiccup with punctuality as we wanted the windows/screens in place prior to a birthday party for my daughter. Signals got crossed up in the morning due to weather, but Jamie was able to get the crew out about an hour before the party to get the glass in. Not a big deal, and Jamie was very responsive once the disconnect with the crew was highlighted. Lastly, we found one of the glass windows had a crack in it upon installation. Notified Jamie, and crew replaced in within a week. Overall, highly recommended. A little pricy, but you get what you pay for. Good quality of work, very professional. Would recommend this company in a heart beat.

Patrick and his crew handled the entire job extremely well. We had an unforeseen problem blending the new deck into an existing screened in porch. There was an easy way to do it which would not have looked very good and could have had some longer term structural issues. Jamie came out during the job, assessed the situation, came up with the perfect solution that included adding some reinforcing struts underneath the porch and an additional Azek trim piece. It looks amazing and Jamie did not charge us for the extra work. Also if you reference Angie's list, he may throw in some extras. After over 40 years of working with home builders, contractors, service companies, handymen and you name it, I have never had a better total experience from the customer relationship to the quality of the work. Jamie was not the lowest estimate but I would pick his company every time, regardless of the price difference. You always do end up getting what you pay for.

We had a deck built by Cedarworks in May. We received multiple quotes, all from Angie?s List contractors, and even though Cedarworks was not the cheapest, we felt they brought more to the table than anyone else. From start to finish our experience was extremely positive. Jamie was very professional, flexible and full of great ideas. His crew was also professional, polite and even exceeded our expectations. On the last day of the job, we were delighted when we came home and not only found everything cleaned up but the guys even brought up our very heavy barbecue back to its proper place. Jamie did not hesitate to come back when there were some very minor items on our final inspection list. The price we paid was fair for the superior quality and workmanship we received. Cedarworks? selection of materials combined with superior craftsmanship, customization and installation means this is most likely the last deck we will build, but if we would ever do it again, it would no doubt be with Cedarworks. We also know we?ve done well when we hired a landscaper to complete our outdoor project, who also builds decks, and he had nothing but the highest praise for our newly constructed deck.

Jamie Ruddy's level of customer service was excellent, He showed up on time to do a site visit, provided an estimate within just a few days, and was very responsive to questions and concerns. Jamie is very knowledgeable about all types of deck materials and provided very good suggestions and options to us. The quality of the work was very high and we are very happy with our result. We did have a few days of rain which set the project back a few days; my only minor complaint would be that Jamie's crew members do not always hold themselves to the same high standard that he does. But overall, the project met all our expectations and we would recommend and use them again in the future.

Again, Jamie and his team replaced and structually enhanced our 726 sq ft wood deck to it's original design. They were prompt, polite and dedicated to completing the deck in promised time. Jamie's team was very quick to correct any minor issues. Thanks Jamie !!
