This company possible subcontract other people for the move job. There is no guarantee for the quality and it gives competitive quote but will ending with much more. 1 day estimated used 3 days. They charge by hours. Whence you started move you can not change the mover.

Horrible and stressful experience damage done to both of my homes while moving furniture and Cam said he was going to fix repairs himself and never did. They were very late arriving to my home and started moving at 1 pm when they were supposed to be at my home between 9-1015. I felt bad for the men moving bc they were already exhausted by the time they got to my place bc they were doing an earlier job last minute! And i got bumped to a later slot when i booked with them two months prior my move date and specifying i need the earliest time frame due to moving a large home. This was the worst moving exp i ever had.

I used this moving company to move my mother because my daughter had scheduled a move with them as well. The movers were scheduled to begin at 10 am. They arrived at 5:15 pm. I requested an extra service and negotiated with the owner (?) for a fair price, however at the end of the move a 'surprise' additional $150 fee was added. They 'assumed' I understood this fee would apply. As for the two men actually doing the work, they did a good job. However, as the evening turned into night (because they were so late - not their fault, the company scheduled a move before mine) the one mover turned somewhat antagonistic and largely quit. It was a very long and disappointing day. Clearly I will not be using this company again.3131

We would not recommend this company to anyone. They misquoted the rate, which ended up being twice what they quoted because of an unstated three hour minimum charge. They were supposed to pick up my son's belongings at 10:00 am on the scheduled day of pickup, because he was supposed to vacate the apartment by noon of that day. The moving company did not show up until 5:30 pm that evening. The bookkeeper, Karen, assured me that they would give me a break in the rate, because I was unhappy with their lack of punctuality. She indicated they might be willing to waive the service fee of $199.00, or the storage fee. However, the owner of the company, Cameron Shea, who we spoke to on the day of final delivery, opted to increase the overall fee, saying that we would be charged from the time the truck left the facility at 8:30 am, which exceeded the three hour minimum charge. The scheduled delivery was for 2:00 pm on Sunday May 25th. The movers had called us at 11:30 am that morning to confirm the delivery address. It was unnecessary, and unethical, to charge us from 8:30 am that morning. My husband spoke to Cameron and informed him that we were unhappy with his business ethics, and that he should read the reviews of his company on Yelp. Very few customers are happy with this company. We were not a happy customer. My son's belongings were delivered on time, in relatively good condition, although his mattress and box spring were roughed up a bit. The delivery took exactly 30 minutes, which cost us $450.00, not including the $95.00 storage fee for three weeks, and the $450.00 charge for the pickup. People should be wary of dealing with this moving company. I would like to think that there are better moving companies that provide better customer service and more reasonable rates in the vicinity of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Description of Work: This moving and storage company was hired to pick up my son's belongings from his room at the University of Michigan, and store them for three weeks at their storage facility. They were also contracted todeliver these same items to my son's new apartment in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday May 25th.

When I first called to book Silverback Moving, the woman who answered the telephone was very pleasant, and knowledgeable, she answered all of my questions, and I felt comfortable after speaking with her, so I went ahead and reserved the date and gave a deposit. On the day of the move, they sent 3 movers, even though I had called them 2 days earlier and said that we would not need 3 men, that we would only need 2 men, as we had moved most of our belongings ourselves. However, we still had a few pieces of furniture and about 15 boxes that we needed moved, and we felt 2 movers would be more than enough. When they arrived the contract also stated 3 movers, at a higher price, so they had to call the office to have the contract corrected. Finally at 10:30, they began moving, they brought in a dolly and piled my boxes all on to it, and as they were going out the front door, a few of my boxes came crashing down off the top of the stack, and hit the ground. They immediately picked up the boxes, and put them on the truck, and about 10 minutes later one of the movers came in and said that he checked the boxes and nothing was broken...well guess what I learned when we got to the new house and began to unpack, everything in those boxes were broken into pieces, and damaged badly. When I contacted the owner JIM, he said to send him pictures then he said that he would submit a claim to their insurance company, and that I would only get paid 60 cents per pound and to get him the weight of all of my items. Originally, I was only asking him to replace my deep fryer, and I was a fool and assumed he would just go purchase a new one and bring it out to me, however now since I am only getting 60 cents per pound for my items, I am claiming every single item that was broken. However, I have texted and called Jim, for the last 3 days, and I have not gotten any response. The last time I spoke to him was 2 days after our move, and he said to get him the total weight of all our items, and he would submit a claim and it will take up to 30 days. I know my deep fryer only costs $60.00 brand new, however, I was lucky that my true valuables i moved myself, because at 60 cents a pound, I would of had to pay to replace some very valuable items if they had moved them and if they had damaged them. I should have done my research better because If I had I would have seen other bad reviews, and I would have gone with another company. I will say that the 2 movers they sent out were very courteous, but they moved very slowly as if they wanted the entire move to take longer so we would have to pay more. I will be calling the BBB, and all three local news stations as well, to see if they can assist me in getting my items replaced, Please read all the reviews and stay away from this moving company..... UPDATE:........... Since I had not heard from JIM the owner, I tried yet again to contact him. I called him on Tuesday May 6, 2014, and he answered the phone. I asked him if he had received my message in regards to how much all of my broken items weighted, and he said yes, and I then asked him what was the next step, and he said he was out of town and would call me tomorrow(May 7, 2014), when he was back in town, then what happened next I was quite shocked about, he said Thank you for the Angie's List review, and I said I was just being honest, he said "thank you for your rudeness", and just hung up on me. I also never got a call from him yesterday (May 7, 2014), as he promised. Again, I cannot stress enough to please read these review and consider very carefully before hiring this particular moving company, because they obviously don't care about their reputation, and they don't care about their customers. They broke my items, and they should replace them , I also believe that it is childish to hang up on someone, especially a customer. I will update if they do replace my items, and try to resolve this , however I am not expecting that to happen. Again, please read all reviews, and do your research and simply stay away from this company, if you have worked hard for and value your belongings.

Two cardboard boxes fell off a dolly on the front porch apartment steps. Our driver noted the contents of the TWO boxes and photographed. Later when customer called she claimed FOUR boxes were dropped and gave a list of allegedly damaged items that were not in the two actual boxes. We knew she was pulling a scam immediately- rather than call her a liar, we opted to honor a claim for not only the two boxes but the phony items as well. We are still honoring the claim properly but we have placed her on the National Do Not Move List due to her dishonesty. We value our customers and their possessions, but there will always be a fee that try scam the system and cheat everyone the deal with.

We receive a phone call the day before our move from the office asking if we had any additional needs or requests. The morning of the move the crew phoned to give us their estimated time of arrival which turned out to be 20 minutes ahead of schedule- we appreciated the thoroughness and fact that they kept us in the loop. During the move we could tell the gentlemen were well trained and careful with both our home we were moving from and our new home in Birmingham- they even covered the banister of our staircase. My husband and I were both impressed with the way they shrink wrapped some of our pieces like the grand father clock, our dressers, and my china cabinet before wrapping them in pads for the move. Extra detail! The three Silverback movers were gentlemen and pleasant to have in our homes. We will definitely use Silverback Moving again should we have anything to move.
Description of Work: We were referred to Silverback Moving & Storage by our family lawyer and close friend who had used Silverback previously. We took three bids and decided to hire Silverback Moving in Birmingham based on their professionalism. They moved our entire 3950 square foot home of furniture (with some very heavy pieces) from Rochester Hills to Birmingham, Michigan using two very clean, modern trucks. We were impressed the way they wrapped each piece of furniture in heavy, clean moving pads and handled our things carefully and efficiently.

Jim Shea contacted my mother by phone and personally walked her through the moving process. He took great care to ask how she was handling the stress of moving to a new home in another city. He hand picked the two man crew to pack and move their three bedroom house. The crew wrapped their cargo with loving care, no matter what shape the items were in. As soon as they realized two trucks were needed instead of one, Mr. Shea went to work securing a second two man crew and truck to assist in completing the job. Mr. Shea was able to accommodate their request to store their cargo until they are able to move into their new house. Mr. Shea made it a point to follow up with my mother at every opportunity. Mr. Shea was very easy to work with, and my mother trusted him fully to recommend whatever was best for her and her family throughout the moving process. We highly recommend Silverback Moving and Storage.

Even though the move was last minute by the time they contacted us, and then had a lot of glitches regarding what day they could actually move due to their closing of their new home (had to change the day twice and then took their entire home into our Secure Storage Facility while waiting for them to get possession of new home)... everything went perfectly from start to finish and we were able to accommodate every change, every request and every need. In the end, our business is taking care of the customer start to finish- on their schedule. Throughout the move they were complimentary and appreciative. Overall great experience. Jim (owner) came over before the move to get a good sense of the move and to give a more accurate quote. Crew was very prompt (even a bit early) and worked hard to get the job done efficiently. Things went very well...all things were well protected and taken care of. Costs were discussed accurately up front and nothing was hidden or stuck in at the end. I have another move to make in the fall and I will be using Sliverback again for that move.

We took the entire household into our storage until the new home is completed and it remains here, wrapped and padded just as it left their home until we deliver the entire home (they have kept in contact with updates for their future move) to their new home and unwrap everything just the way it left the previous home. We always meet every need that should arise for our customers at the last minute, but moving for people that are so well organized is a true pleasure. I booked SIlverback approximately 6 weeks before our move date. They did not come out to give me an estimate I only listed our belongings via the phone and was given an estimate over the phone. At the time of booking I had only decided that they would move furnitue only. Approximately 4 weeks before the move date I called back and said I would need them to move furniture and boxes and speifically asked them if they would need to send a larger truck now that I wanted them to move everything, but they assured me they had a large enough truck. Silverback was scheduled to arrive at 8am on a Saturday. I received a call an hour before they were supposed to arrive stating that they were down a person and wanted to move our date to the next day. I told them that was not acceptable! I had an entire house in boxes, beds that were taken apart, etc......I had planned on this moving day for 6 weeks and was ready to go. Spending another night in a house with no assembled beds and everything in boxes was just not going to be feasible. After getting upset, I was told that they could possibly call someone in. A half and hour later they called back stating they were going to pull one of their guys from another job, but they would not be able to get to our home until 10am (two hours later than originally scheduled). Two hours came and passed and their movers did not show up until noon (now 4 hours late). When they arrived they pulled up into the driveway with a truck that was only a little larger than a 14 ft Uhal. I knew right away that our belongings would not fit in one truck, but they insisted that it would. After loading up a few pieces of furniture they quickly figured out I was correct and everything would not fit. They then spent 45 minutes on the phone with their central office trying to secure another truck. Unfortunately they were not able to secure another truck and stated that they would need to make two trips from Washington Twp tp Berkley which is approximately 40 minutes each way! I then became extremely upset and asked to speak to their supervisor because I was not about to pay the extra hours nor the mileage fees because they did not bring a large enough truck. The supervisor I spoke with on the phone was extremely rude and basically said I was out of luck, but affter urging he did decide to agree not to charge me for the added mileage. Moving day with Silverback was a complete nightmare! Since they arrived 4 hours late (after almost rescheduling a move date I had for 6 weeks), and not sending a large enough truck which cause them to need to make two trips from the old house to the new house we did not finish our move until 1:00AM!!! They also damaged a lot of my furniture, but I did not even notice until the next day. I was so exhausted and wanted them out of my house at 1AM I did not look over my furniture like I should have and signed off. They requested payment at the end of the move (1:00 in the morning) and I was not about to pay for all the hours it took them because they had to make two trips. They did end up crediting me a small amount, but it was nowhere's near what they should have done considering they made my moving day a nightmare and I was too exhausted to argue with them anymore. I am now looking to move again and will NEVER use SIlverback nor recommend them to ANYONE. Please read this review and the others. Hopefully I can save someone from the nightmare we went through.

We were not aware of this review until now, many, many months after [member name removed] move, so I must respond in the past tense. To address her issues regarding our time of arrival. The scheduled time of arrival was 10 a.m. and confirmed. It was unfortunate that on the day of the move we were right in the midst of flue season and the morning of the move we were short four valuable, full-time employees. As we ONLY use our own full-time staff and NEVER use part time or day-labor employees like many companies due, we were short manpower that morning. For this we apologize and did apologize at the time. Not a normal situation, but it was unfortunate for our customer and for the company that four of our scheduled staff were very ill at the same time. It is a fact that it was several hours later than our planned ETA when we arrived at the home but assured the customer that their move would go as quickly as safely possible. Relative to trucks, we have a fleet of all large moving trucks. We are NOT placing any blame on the customer for the amount of things they had to move, but it is important to note that often folks have far more to move than they indicate and under normal circumstances we just send out an additional reserve truck and crew. The circumstances of this move were unfortunate and we apologize to our customer. What we did to make it right: Later in the day we were able to add additional personnel to the move (at no additional charge to the customer), we diligently worked to complete the move as soon as possible even into the late evening, and at the end of the day, we gave the customer a SUBSTANTIAL credit toward their bill as a matter of good will and customer appreciation. Additionally, we will offer [member name removed] a substantial ADDITIONAL discount toward a future move and assure complete satisfaction start to finish.

Siverback movers were so obviously inexperienced, and so clueless about how to move furniture, it was frightening. I should have asked them to leave when I heard things falling over in the truck. They left my furniture deeply gouged, ripped, dented and broken, and the walls marked and dented. DOORWAYS seemed to pose a real puzzle to them. The one piece of furniture I DISTINCTLY told them not to tilt onto its legs or drag, was tilted when moving it into the truck, and they dragged it over my new carpeting in the new house. The result? The leg and side of the armoire was split and broken. Silverback movers did $1135.00 worth of damage to my furniture, (or $5500 replacement) and refused to even pay the less than $500 damages owed per THEIR contract. At one point their 'furniture expert', (surprise: owner Cameron Schea's DAD) said if they paid me for repairs, I'd have to give them the furniture. (??) I gave them the $1135 quote from Bix furniture repair company, and they offered $50, then $100, then quit taking my calls. Silverback movers should NOT be in business. I hired them after reading a few good reviews online. After my experience with them, I did more digging, and the reviews I read had been written by family members, some not even ATTEMPTING to disguise their names. All statements are documented.

They ruined a few nice pieces of our furniture from running them into the walls. They broke the front legs of our patio set. We now have scratches and paint marks on other pieces. We really tried to work with them. They will just give you the run around and hope you give up.

If the customer would like to return the monetary reduction / compensation already given to her, we would be happy to take a claim for ACTUAL damage based on our contract with her as well as Michigan Law regarding the moving of household goods. One of the issues was that she wanted money for the old things she claimed were damaged and wanted to keep them as well.

They were very honest with their pricing and very fair. The movers were punctual, polite and helpfull throughout our move. They did a lot of little things we didn't get from other moving companies we have used in the past. Very pleased start to finish.

We hired Silverback moving to do a local move (5 miles). We regretfully took the cheapest quote and hired Silverback based on price. As the old adage says, you get what you pay for - unfortunately we got about $950 less that what we paid for. The movers showed up on time, after which it all went downhill. The three college-aged movers were nice enough, but the quality of the work was bad. Bad as in, they damaged the house we were moving out of by slamming our furniture into the door frame, which needed to be repaired. They didn't wrap any of our wood furniture and there were gouges and deep scratches on most of our pieces (all less than 5 years old). In all, they damaged about $5-$6k worth of furniture. The worst was a white dresser for my daughter's room, which had the legs split off. The movers said it was from the weight of the clothes in the dresser - but we found a big black boot print on top of the dresser where they had obviously stood on the furniture during the moving. Lastly, they dirtied our carpet from their boots - carpet that we had professionally cleaned three days prior. And here's where it gets worse - when we contacted the management, they asked that we send pictures of the damage. After several unreturned calls, we got a guy to come out to inspect that damage. After showing the dozens of samples of damage, the guy told me that he'd call the carpet cleaners and get back to me on the furniture damage. Turns out, he called the carpet company - and agreed to have them come back to clean our carpet for $20. When talking to the carpet cleaner to schedule a visit, they said they have never talked to the moving company (he thought he was talking to me) and said it would be $50. As for the damage to the furniture, they offered to come over and whip some furniture touch up on the scratches. When I asked for a professional to have it done, they said no. No offer to replace my daughter's dresser that they stood on and broke. No apologies or any attempt to satisfy an unhappy customer. Moving is always a stressful time and we have been lucky with most of the services we hired during the process - this being the glaring exception. Silverback's lack of professionalism, poor service, and poor customer service is beyond question and I would strongly recommend avoiding them for any future services.
