I called Belair Engineering & Service Co Inc to ask if they will do duct for my home kitchen exhaust. It says clearly in their website that they will do this type of work. The agent said they don't do such type of work. So why waste people's time buy putting wrong information in website. http://www.belaireng.com/webapp/p/2/ductwork-modifications "Ductwork modifications in MD Maryland made easy! Dear Sir, I apologize for any miscommunication or inconvenience. Heating & cooling ductwork and kitchen exhaust fans and venting are different projects entirely. Kitchen exhaust fans and there required venting are specialty type projects and require special materials, permits & inspections. We do not get many calls for this type of project so we have not pursued the special training needed to add this service to our portfolio of products and services. I will consult with our webmaster and clarify our ductwork definitions. Kind regards, Don Risher VP Belair Engineering info@BelairEngineering.com 301-218-2363 direct 301-343-1010 cell 301-249-0300 main

Both appointments were for this past Wednesday and scheduled for the 8 am to 1 pm time window. Brendan (plumber) arrived just before 9 and left just after 10. Warren (HVAC) arrived at 10 and finished shortly after 10:30. Both Brendan and Warren had been to the house before. Both were very professional and courteous and answered clearly all questions put to them. They explained problems they found (plumbing: a sizing problem with a supply line to the bathroom faucet; HVAC: a humidifier pad that probably would not survive the winter) and suggested logical solutions. We have been consistently happy with Belair Engineering since we started using them when we bought our new HVAC system in 2011.
Description of Work: We had two services by Belair Engineering this week - both on the same morning. One for plumbing to replace kitchen and bathroom faucets; one for a fall check of our HVAC system (for which we have a pre-paid service contract).

Was scheduled to arrive between 8 am and 12 noon; received call from dispatcher that a difficulty had been encountered on prior call and would be late; these things happen, so no problem. Plumber was efficient, professional, and thorough. Did as much of the soldering outdoors as possible to minimize the smell. Work was completed quickly, even as he answered my questions. Left the work area spotless. Even my PhD Engineer spouses was impressed with the quality of the work. And, the price came in under the original estimate.

Justin was a very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous individual. He arrived within the alloted time promised and got right to work, explaining as he went along what he was doing and why. He performed all the checks needed for the Fall heating schedule, wires, hoses, filters, and drains. He went above beyond checking and fixing the humidifier in the heating unit. This has greatly improved the dryness, shock, and static conditions we've been experiencing in just a few days. Great job!

10/30 UPDATE. The owner contacted me about my experience, and offered to refund my money, and asked for another opportunity in the spring to service my HVAC. I appreciated the owner's call. She apologized for what happened without offer excuses. Instead she offered to try and remedy the problem. She also said she would permanently assign Gary to service my account. I am updating my review to reflect I believe this business is acting in good faith, and the actions of their service department do not reflect the corporate core values. I had TWO very different experiences with Belair Engineering on the SAME day, 9/19. First, the SERVICE team is EXCELLENT. Gary was courteous, professional, and considerate. All Belair employees should be like Gary. Second, the SALES team is POOR, UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE. Tom failed to show for his appointment with me on 9/19. Gary and his Service Manager tried to track Tom down for 2 hours without success. Tom claimed that he came to the house but I wasn't home. BULL. I was with Gary, and the Belair Engineering truck was in my driveway. If he had come to the house he would have seen the truck. Tom lied. Brian, his sales manager failed to take responsibility. Even rescheduling the appointment to today, 9/30 was difficult. Brian claimed he was sending Tom out to apologize. Neither Tom nor Brian were professional enough to confirm the appointment. I had to call this morning for confirmation. When Tom showed up, there was NO apology for his previous no show. Belair should have sent someone else. Tom wasn't interested in the work, and refused to even give me a quote. He was rude and abrupt. If it weren't for Gary and the excellent service he gave me on 9/19, there is no way I would ever do business with this company. It's too bad because I was going to repair some duct work, install a generator, and put a second heating zone in my house using a heat pump. I'll take my business elsewhere. Dealing with the Belair sales department is just too difficult.

I have had a maintenance contract with Belair since they installed the new system in 2005. They come twice a year to check everything and do any necessary maintenance. Anytime there is a problem, they respond right away. Yesterday, the technician came at the scheduled time. He cleaned the filter, cleaned and sanitized the drains and evap coils, cleaned the condenser coils and applied protective coating. Everything was checked and tested. He was courteous and efficient. I would definitely recommend Belair and will continue to call them for all heating/ac needs.

Great sales guy - no pressure, very informative, listened to our needs and came up with a great solution. Installers were great. Work involved removal of old system, install of new and modifications to old duct work. Work was done professionally, and when challenges arose, which they did, the installers came up with creative solutions. They also involved us in the decision making. From a value perspective, I believe I could have done better on the price. However, I have a feeling that I would not have been as happy with the end result. This is a complex system, and there's no doubt in my mind that the reason it has been working flawlessly through one heating and one cooling season is because of the quality of the engineering and installation team.

The technician called to reschedule for an earlier arrival. The technician arrived slightly before the new scheduled time. For the spring checkup, the condensate line was cleared. Wiring, components, and pressures were checked. A protective coating was applied to the a/c system as well. During the fall check-up, the furnace was tested for a carbon monoxide leak. Wiring was checked and the condensate lines were cleared. When all was completed, the furnace and a/c were deemed operating properly. Russell was quite the professional. He explained what was to be done before the check-ups, what was being done during the service and what had been done when he completed the jobs. Russell cleaned up. He reviewed the bill and explained the charges. Overall, the service experience was great. I would recommend Belair for a/c and furnace services.

This is one of the most professionally run places I have ever dealt with. We were selling our home after 5 years and the home inspector of the new buyer pointed out that even though the system suffered no ill effects from the particular way it was installed, there were actually a couple pipes which were wrong and they buyer wanted it fixed. I phoned the company who had installed it 2 years before we even bought the house and they asked me to send pictures showing the issue. I did and they immediately and without hesitation said they would be out to fix it for no charge. They showed up on time and made everything right. I want to emphasize that the original installation in NO WAY caused a problem or less efficiency with the very high-end HVAC they had installed in the house. At settlement I made sure to tell the new buyers what they did and suggested that if/when they need service, they call Belair Engineering. If they come as far as the new house, I will make sure to use them again. .I was very impressed

Belair Engineering is not a mold remediation company. Often the problem will go away if you eliminate the source of moisture feeding it and helping it to thrive. Belair Engineering services 50,000+ clients every year and it seems like the customers that have a problem (which we quickly bend over backwards to help fix) are the folks that are most apt to leave a sub par review. I guess that's the world wide web we live in. If any of our 50,000+ clients have any problem, I wish they would call me on my cell at 301-343-1010 or at my desk at 301-218-2363 and I will do my best to see that they receive the 100% satisfaction that they deserve. They were able to come out quickly and arrived on time. The technician who came out first to look at the furnace was very dramatic. He said that we needed to shut the furnace down right now as it was dangerous and had his manager come out. When the manager arrived, he said that we could still run the furnace but he would recommend getting another one. We had another company come out and they said that our furnace did not need to be shut off, but did need to be replaced at a later time. Because of the diagnosis and response of first technician, we did not use this company for the work. We only paid them for the service call, but did not have them do any work.

Our technician stopped out and noted that there was a lot of rust on your furnace heat exchanger and on your furnace during his inspection. His CO detector also noted 13 parts per million within 5 minutes of your furnace starting up. Because of these 2 strong indicators our Service Manager stopped out (at no extra charge) with a flexible goose neck camera to take a very detailed look to make sure you & your family were safe from any carbon monoxide poisoning. That's the kind of service I'd want if I was in a similar situation. I'm curious as to why you waited a year and a half to post your review. I contacted Belair Engineering because my air conditioning was not working. Tech came out the same day as contacted, but did not make much of an effort to find out what the problem was and I was charged $149.00. His diagnosis was that the compressor was not compressing completely and he suggested that the entire system needed to be replaced. The estimate was $6,000. I got a second opinion from someone who took the time to troubleshoot and carefully inspect the system. It turns out that the capacitor had stopped working, so the part was replaced at a cost of $24.43. System is working perfectly now and I am very happy that I saved $5975.57. I respectfully disagree to the response from Belair Engineering. The compressor is a hermetically sealed unit and the reliability of the compressor is in no way related to the failure of the capacitor. Could my a/c until die in a week, month, or year? Yes, but it could also run for another 5 years without any problems. Not a justifiable reason to spend $6000 now on a new system. Do capacitors fail at the end of the compressors life? There is no correlation between failing capacitors and failing compressors. Definitely not a justifiable reason to spend $6000 now on a new system. Is Belair Engineering making more money selling new systems than repairing old ones? I believe the answer is yes based on the experience that I had.

Your AC was resurrected with a new start capacitor. Yes, you can put in a new capacitor and your system may run for a week, month, or a year but you just can't say how long. We CAN say, that your AC most likely will quit working again on a very hot day. Capacitors often start to fail at the end of your AC compressors life and replacing or adding capacitors often just provides a temporary "band aid" like relief. We regret any inconvenience you incurred and have cheerfully refunded all your money you invested with Belair Engineering and wish you and your AC all the best. UPDATE: After posting the review below I was immediately contacted by the owner who worked directly with me to address the issues I experienced. As I suspected this was largely an issue of miscommunication. They're taking corrective action to address some of the minimally descriptive material in the brochures and upgraded my remote to the maximum functionality this fireplace can support. I feel tremendously better knowing BelAir is sincerely interested in their customer's satisfaction and look forward to with working with them again in the future. I attended an event at BelAir Engineering gas fireplace showroom back in October 2013 where I was shown all of the great things that the gas fireplace inserts can do by one of the Mendota representatives as well as a BelAir sales rep. After some discussions with my wife we decided to move forward with the install of a gas insert. Over the next few weeks a sales rep stopped by a few times for measurements, paperwork and a deposit check. We were well on our way I thought. As it turns out, the fireplace wasn’t ordered until after I called a few weeks later to find out the status. The office apparently thought that I needed to go to the bank even though I already went some weeks before at their direction. And to add to add aggravation, the office also lost my deposit check. The installation itself went fairly smoothly. There was some damage done to the faux brick during the install which was later repaired, but other than that the installation crew was punctual and professional. However, the fireplace I was sold did not have the features that I was shown. The D-40 I was sold has a very limited remote control and most of its functions are operated from the front panel of the unit itself. This is completely different from what they demonstrated to me in the BelAir showroom and the brochures they provided me. I learned that what was installed differed from what I thought I had bought and was shown in the showroom when the installers left. The only response I received from BelAir was an email forwarded from a sales rep that showed an email from someone else that said this was the only remote for this fireplace. Despite all representations to the contrary, what I received was not the full-featured model I was lead to believe I bought. And informing me by forwarding an email instead of addressing me directly is poor customer service. I tried mailing the President of the company but after three months she hasn’t bothered to reply. To say I am disappointed in Belair Engineering is an understatement. The sloppy, lackadaisical way that my order was handled is in stark contrast to every other encounter I’ve had with Belair Engineering on the installation and maintenance of my HVAC system.

During the months of February and March of this year, my husband and I experienced exceptionally high electric bills from our supplier. We had never had bills this high in all the years we lived in our home, even during the hot summer months. In December of 2010, we had purchased a brand new heating and air conditioning system from Belair Engineering. Their company technicians always performed the routine checkups on our new system and we have always been very pleased with the service provided to us. In March of this year, we had noticed an auxiliary heat message appearing on the electronic thermostat in our home. When a Belair technician came to our home to do a spring checkup, my husband mentioned the continued message we were seeing on our thermostat. It took 3 technicians to finally identify the problem, which turned out to be the sensor on the unit that had gone bad. The technician, who identified the problem, promptly ordered a new part and had it installed within a very short time span. The work performed by the technician was very detailed and he took his time to check everything for us. Our system is now functioning as it always had in the past. Because the problem was a result of an intricate part in our heating and air conditioning system, Belair Engineering contacted us and offered the next two years of our service contract at no charge to us. My husband and I felt their offer was very equitable and we accepted. The savings will be $453.00. We have always had excellent support from Belair Engineering and their technicians are prompt in their service, courteous, and professional. We were very pleased with everything that took place and I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

We have a whole-house humidifier. We noticed the air felt try and, indeed, measured dry (20% humidity). We contacted the humidifier manufacturer to see who services their appliances in our area and Belair Engineering was on their list. Belair inspected the system on 12/27/13. The technician said the system is working. He changed a water filter and said to give the system a day or so before we assess the humidity level. After two days, there was no change. So I contacted Belair and explained that the system is still not functioning. On 1/3/14, they sent out what they referred to as a Senior Technician. He indicated that the humidistat was not working and he also had some other observations about the system’s design. He said he needed to contact the manufacturer to get some more info in order to determine whether the system is configured properly. He requested that we contact him on Monday (1/6). I called and left a voicemail on his cell phone. I never received a reply. On 1/9/14, I called the company and explained everything. They put me in touch with the Service Manager. He said he’d address the situation and contact me that Saturday or the following Monday. First problem: Belair’s initial inspection was poorly done. Equipment should be tested for effectiveness…e.g., is it doing what it’s supposed to do? It seems that the scope of the initial inspection was to determine if the system turned on (which it did…and still does) rather than whether humidity was being generated. This was confirmed by their second visit when the technician said the humidistat is not functioning (this should have been identified by the first tech). Second problem: there has been NO follow-up by Belair. All communications have been initiated by us. Neither the Senior Technician nor the Service Manager has returned calls as they promised. So here we are on 1/15/14 in almost the exact same place we were when we first called Belair. That is, we still have a non-working humidifier. I say “almost” because there is one thing that’s changed: our net worth (by the amount of their fee).
Description of Work: Inspect/Test whole-house humidifier.
