Dealing with Chris (owner of McKee Construction) was a pleasure. Chris took the time to listen to what we wanted up front and made sure he understood our goals and budgetary considerations before taking on the project. The quality of Chris's work was good. We are very pleased with the way the house turned out. The trim work is nicely done (it's not perfect, but we weren't paying for high end, custom carpentry work) - far nicer than I would have expected, given how much we had to spend on the project. The floors came out beautifully - Chris's floor finisher is a miracle worker. We were very happy with the electrician's work and recommendations - he made some excellent recommendations regarding light fixture and switch placement while we were in the planning stages. I am very much a detail person, and I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. Overall, I have very little negative to say about the work that Chris did for us - given the amount of work that we had done, I think that says a lot about quality of Chris's work. Throughout the project, Chris was always responsive when I contacted him with questions or concerns. When I wasn't happy with something, he would have his crew come out a fix the problem quickly, and to my satisfaction. The initial project did take longer than we initially thought - this was in part due to a delay in getting a well drilled (not Chris's fault in any way), but was also due to other projects that kept Chris's crew tied up. Having watched my parents build their house, and after talking to other friends who have built their own houses, I understand that this is not out of the norm when doing custom construction. The repair work was completed very quickly, for which we are very grateful. We also have to give Chris a lot of credit for starting on the repair work immediately when the tree fell on the house. In the dead of winter, just prior to a major snow storm coming in, his crew got the tree removed and made temporary repairs to the roof within 3 days to prevent further damage from being done to the house. We received 20 inches of snow the day after they got the roof covered by the tarp. His quick response kept the snow out of the house and saved us thousands of dollars in additional damages. Chris also dealt directly with our insurance company to get accurate estimates for the repairs completed quickly - it was nice to have one less thing to deal with in the middle of a small crisis. Throughout the entire process, Chris stayed on budget with his initial estimates. When we made changes to the initial proposal that impacted our final cost, Chris gave us an updated estimate and asked for our approval to proceed before doing anything that wasn't part of the original plan. We greatly appreciated this. Chris's pricing was very transparent - we always knew how much materials were, how much labor was, and how much the markup was. We feel very fortunate to have found such an honest, considerate contractor to help us build our dream home (twice!). I highly recommend McKee Construction.
