Found leak in ceiling in utility room on pipe and determined it was probably the heating system. The system on the second floor had been hidden inside wood built-ins. The technician carefully removed the wood moldings and built-ins to gain access without damaging wood, and quickly replaced the valve for a reasonable price.

The first technician showed up and did not have the right ladder to get up to the attic unit. I specifically asked the company when I made the appt if they had experience with old DC rowhouses and they said yes. The sales person mentioned to us that we should ask for the spring/fall maintenance agreement when the technician showed up. Another technician showed up with the appropriate ladder. They cleaned the AC (for spring) and made some recommendations for the fall. When we asked for the annual maintenance agreement, the technician said that he did not have the form on hand and would make a note for it for the sales person to send with the paid invoice. While this wasnt a big deal, it made the whole process of signing up for the annual maintenance kind of confusing, since we already paid for the spring cleaning.
Description of Work: Inspect HVAC and provide cleaning for spring.

I had an old leaky water heater. Had a different plumber come and look at it who gave me a lower price estimate for switching it out. But I sought a second opinion with Thom E Clark and was very impressed with their service and responsiveness. The plumber that came over (name escapes me now) was very professional and left me much more confident about the job. They quoted a higher price but noted some other pipes that needed to be switched out (showed me the corrosion) and installed a higher quality energy star appliance. I also had them unclog a bathtub so that added a bit to the price I listed here. First rate service, very nice people, and everything done quickly on the same day with no mess. Would definitely recommend and use again.

First appointment, the rep didn't show up. We called, and the receptionist/administrator person who answered the phone apologized, said she forgot to put it on his schedule. We rescheduled, he showed up the second time, said he'd send us an estimate but never did. We called again, he returned call, said again he'd send an estimate, but never did. On the whole, they were very pleasant people. The rep was friendly and professional while here, but they just didn't follow through. Not very reliable.

They do very well. They took a personal intrest in me. They don't push things onto me. They try to emphasize preventive work. They don't use scare tactics on me like many other companies might try.

I was given information on the phone about the charge for the service call and then clearly told and signed for, the estimate to replace the faucets. The work was done and the area left clean. Within the last year I called Clark to figure out why my water bill was sky high. They diagnosed the problem as two running toilets. On the water bill graph there is almost no more column! That was certainly the correct diagnosis and the fix not too costly. I also have service contracts for boiler and A/C. Each season very thorough checks are done.
Description of Work: Old bathroom faucets dripping. I was given the option of trying to repair them or replace. Since the faucets were very old (but of no historic value!), I decided to replace them.

It is now one week later and no one from Thomas E. Clark ever provided an estimate. Meanwhile I called another company and they sent a plumber the same day, who flipped a valve and showed me in 5 minutes that the pressure problem was my water filter. No re-piping needed (cost - $75)! So I felt very misguided by Thomas E. Clark, and also left in the lurch, taking low-pressure showers for a week waiting for them to arrive and give me an estimate (for the work that wasn't even needed). The only good part of the experience was that Thomas E. Clark is professional over the phone, and the plumber was a personable guy who came on time. But I was disappointed, to say the least, in the actual advice and follow-up.
Description of Work: I had low water pressure in my house. A plumber from Thomas E. Clark came over to check it. He spent quite a long time in the house. I suggested that the problem might be my whole house filter, but the plumber said that only slightly reduces water pressure. He said that I would probably need a re-piping - change all of the pipes in the house - which would cost $5,000 - $9,000. He promised that his boss would come over to check the connections outside, and then an estimate would be provided for the re-piping work.

We contacted Thomas E Clark to install a whole house humidifier and service our existing furnace. They were able to promptly schedule the appointment at a convenient time, arrived on time, and discussed the work they were going to perform and how much it would cost. That figure matched the estimate I had been given over the phone. However, the work took significantly longer than I was led to believe over the phone, approximately 6 hours. (Something Thomas E Clark may want to discuss with the scheduler.) The amount of time necessary was added to by the need to return to the shop to get a part to complete the job. Before leaving for the last time, they explained to me how the system worked and what I needed to do to maintain it. They also cleaned their work up and vacuumed the work area. Overall, I was very pleased.

I went with this company because they were listed as an "A" on Angie's List and could come out the next day. I needed the fixtures installed before a guest came to stay(the old ones were broken). The dispatcher gave me a 4 hour window and said the plumber would give me a cost estimate when he came to the house before starting any work. The plumber showed up right on time and was very nice and professional. When I showed him the work that needed to be done, he pulled out a big binder with prices for various services listed. He was originally going to charge me $500 to install the two fixtures, a job that should only take about 2 hours and I was not about to pay $250 an hour PLUS a $69 service charge(I had gotten quotes for the job from 3 other plumbers that quoted $100-150 an hour without a service charge). I called the office and told them I was willing to pay no more than $400 and they agreed to the price, but I still had to pay the service fee. Fortunately, the plumber did a great job. He was very neat, laid out a drop cloth and cleaned up completely afterward. He was considerate and careful around our furniture and made sure to open windows to ventilate the area while he worked so it didn't get smoky. He tested the fixtures several times before he was satisfied that they were perfect. The new fixtures look fantastic and function wonderfully. On the negative side, aside from the very high initial cost, the biggest turn off was the page he gave me with a tear-off feedback card after the service was completed. It was a full-page explanation, complete with illustrations, of how overhead costs factor into the cost of a service and telling the reader not to judge the cost of a service simply by the amount of time the technician spent working in your home. It even compared being a plumber to being a doctor, insinuating that you are paying not just for the service, but also for the person's training and additional overhead costs. While I understand the argument, I was annoyed at what seemed to be a lame attempt to justify prices that are far above the norm compared to numerous other plumbing companies in the same market.

The responded immediately and shut the water off. It was great because this all happened on Christmas Eve. About one hour after the water was shut off, they had someone here to do the work. I needed a specialist and these guys were very good at what they do (drain cleaning). It wasn't cheap but Chris (the tech) offered to take care of some minor items that I needed (joint sealing and some tightening, and re-positioning an electric line in the way). They took care of the problem and cleaned up very well. I would very much recommend them for complex drain issues.

After I left a message with the dispatcher, I got a call back from the on-duty plumber within 30 minutes, and he was at my house within another hour. Martin was very professional and thorough, and also made sure my faucet was adjusted correctly. He also looked at my hot water heater and gave me recommendations for upgrades. This is the first plumber to come to my house that didn't leave me wondering whether he knew what he was doing.

I found him on Angie's List. I wound up dealing with this company because nobody had any available appointments within a reasonable time. I was in an urgent situation and the gentleman at Thomas E. Clark talked me though it, told me where I could get the parts and got the parts for me through him, and they did this all on a gratis basis, so I have nothing but the highest praise for them.

We first contacted this company as a competitive estimate for installing a new HVAC system, and had found them on Angie's List. I read their reviews online, and scheduled an appointment. The individual who arrived, Mike, arrived on time, and was extremely knowledgeable, as well as personable and pleasant. I told him specifically what we were intending to do, that we were having him in as a competitive quote, and that the biggest factor in our decision was expense. During my conversations with Mike, he was straightforward, listened to my statements/opinions, and didn't try and sell us anything unnecessary. It wasn't until he was leaving that I realized that he wasn't just a tech that the company sent our way, but rather was the president of the company-the fact that the president of the company was still making house calls won my respect immediately. We exchanged several e-mails(he's not a big typing guy, so he sends video mails)to schedule, and he was always extremely pleasant. The installation was unfortunately delayed because his supplier did not have the correct equipment, for which he was extremely apologetic, and made sure that whenever I would be ready/available for the install, he would make sure that his installers completed the job. The installers showed up on time, and completed the task in a straight 8-hours. They too, were extremely courteous and knowledgeable-they did an excellent job, and made sure that absolutely no mess was left behind. One of the installers, Matt, took the time to walk me through the features of the new thermostat and new system, and at my request, spent a few extra minutes discussing viability of DIY ductwork projects and offered his professional advice. After completion, Mike personally called to follow-up and see how the install had gone. After a very pleasant 20 minute conversation, and after the entire process was complete, I could not be more impressed with this company and it's associates. The entire experience was exactly what I would hope for, and I look forward to supporting their business both through personal utility and through favorable recommendations for years to come.
Description of Work: Installation of American Standard variable speed furnace, humidifier, and American Standard Air Conditioning compressor-full HVAC unit install, and removal of old system. Original quote was for $5200, but we upgraded to variable speed furnace for $600 and added the humidifier for $400.

The office PM was very responsive about trying to get someone out quickly and worked with our schedule. I wish I remembered the name, but he returned calls quickly and was nice about my having too many contact numbers. They tech they sent out cleaned the unit after finishing, which he probably didn't have to. ALSO! They are now a favorite of my block because while he was there, a handyman from across the street knocked on our door to ask for advice on a small part, and (very politely, only with my BF's permission first) he went out to his van to help him out. This prompted another neighbor to ask for verbal advice on some issue they had. Great for me, since I'm on a budget, he did only the repair which fixed my immediate problem. He was frank about how the problem could come back again if there was a leak. Gave us advice on how to monitor for that, and how we'd fix it in the future. Another large company didn't get my business in the past because they tried to upsell me on replacing nearly everything in my house. I love that they didn't try to do that.
Description of Work: My boyfriend suspected my AC was running all the time because the coolant had leaked and needed to be recharged. They came out to assess the outside unit, refilled it, and gave advice of how to monitor to see if there was a leak.

This company was very nice to deal with. We deal with a number of their plumbers, Chris and Edwin being the lead guys. It took a few days to handle everything, but they were very professional, nice and empathetic. They had to leave things over a weekend and told us that they would be on call all weekend if we needed them. What I like most about this company is that they were very diligent in looking for the problem. They did not stop until it was found and fixed even though this took much more time than expected.
Description of Work: We had water and sewage backing up in our basement through a drain. We called on an emergency basis and they came out within the hour. The drain was snaked and examined. In the end we needed to jackhammer up our floor in two places to get to the sewer pipe. They replaced sections of the pipe and refilled the concrete.
