Not well. Al never returned my 3 calls to him for clarification about the quote and to begin work. It' was actually a good thing because I went with another company that was professional and reliable.
Description of Work: I contacted Thomas Clark because I had used them before to repair my air conditioning unit and found them to be responsive and reliable. I wanted them to move a gas line in my kitchen, install a water line for my dishwasher and install the dishwasher. A man (I believe his name was Al) came and provided me with a quote for the work. The quote was approximately $1600. I had to pay for the service call for him to provide the quote, which they informed me about beforehand. I informed Al that I would contact him when I was ready to have the work, which was part of my kitchen renovation) completed. I told him that I wanted the work done fairly soon. I contacted Al about two weeks later and left a message at the office that I had questions regarding the quote (whether he was going to disconnect everything and connect the sink as well as the dishwasher) and informing them that I was ready to have them start the work. The clerk tried to pull up the quote but could not find the description of the work. I waited 2 days and never heard from Al. I called the office again and asked them to call Al to have him to call me. They said they would but he did not call. I again called the office and the clerk indicated that he had given Al the message and did not know why he had not called me. The clerk could not otherwise help me. I told him to not bother as I am not used to begging service folks to return my call. I was disappointed because I paid for the estimate and then could not get them to call me back when I had questions for them. I feel that I was cheated. I ultimately had Stevens plumbing perform the work for less money than Thomas Clark.

They seem to be very good. Their prices are on par with everyone else. They come on time and they clean up and everything works. We use them for any type of plumbing work that we have. They do a very good job and they seem to be very good about their estimates. We used them for an emergency once.

Excellent customer service on telephone call to set up appointment. Arrived a bit later than originally scheduled, but company provided updates on the anticipated arrival time by phone twice on the day of service, so no complaints. Work was done quickly and workers very respectful of my home. I was impressed by the professionalism shown by this company. Will definitely use this company again and recommend it to others.

The technician (Carlos) diagnosed the issue quickly and fixed it. A switch had flipped to avoid the furnace overheating. He took the time to be sure the unit was working and tried it at various heat levels. He made some recommendations to help avoid the issue in the future. He also installed a new programmable thermostat and explained in detail how to use it. He was very professional and I would use the company again based on the level of service provided.
Description of Work: My heater stopped working and was only blowing cold instead of hot air. My house was freezing and the thermostat did not seem to be working well.

I woke up Saturday morning to the sound of water splashing on my bathroom floor tile. A pipe under my sink was spraying water everywhere. I shut the main water valve off and went to Angie's List and decided to call Thomas E. Clark based on reviews and close proximity to my home. Being a single woman and this being the first time having to call a plumber made me very nervous. The person answering the phone was very helpful, gave me the cost for coming out and said someone would be over between 12-4. Received a call from the plumber around 10:45 and he was at my house by 11:30. In addition to replacing the cracked pipe, I asked him to fix a leaky faucet. He was done in a hour and responded to all my questions and my nosy cat with ease and good humor. Would definitely use them again

They've been great. We've been really struggling with our sewage drain, and believe that we've finally found a permanent fix (the city came out and replaced our line), but in the meantime, Thomas E. Clark has been very helpful in documenting our plumbing problems to the city. They always stand behind their work.

George from Clark came out to the property for our walk through. He was very professional and courteous and made me comfortable that he understood my needs as well as what would have to be done. I did not get a quote until I followed up twice. The quote was a bit on the higher side and did not break down the tasks in detail as I prefer. Based on other quotes I received and level of comfort I was ready to award the work to Clark but wanted them to do another walk-through with my general contractor to confirm the scope. I left a voicemail for George. I never heard back from him and have awarded the work to another plumber.

They're very good. They're honest and professional. I don't think you can get much more than that in this day in time in this economy. Once the job started they realized it would have been almost twice as much compared to when he started, but he didn't charge me anymore.

It didn't go at all. No one from the company ever contacted me to give me an estimate for the work or schedule a service date.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate for a plumbing repair using their online service request system. I immediately received an email informing me that I would receive a call from one of the company's representatives. I never received a follow up telephone call. I ended up using another plumbing company.

Response from Thomas E Clark Inc
We are very sorry for the inconvenience. We have been having some problems with our automated service/estimate requests. I researched this and found that we never received this request. The email stating that the customer "will receive a call from one of the company's representatives" is automatically sent once the request form is filled out. Unfortunately, we never received the request. I have personally tested the system this morning by going to our web site and requesting an estimate and service. Everything came through fine, so I believe that any quirk in the system has been worked out. I have also changed the language in the follow up email asking that "if you are not contacted within 24 hours, please contact us by phone or simply reply to this email" Again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience and hope you will see fit to give us another chance in the future. Plumber quickly identified the source of a stubborn leak in my basement. Water kept appearing on the linoleum floor against the drywall and nothing seemed to stop it. Not a new washer, not a new condensate pump, not a new backyard drain with two catch basins. Simple problem, simple solution -- a cap on an open vent concealed behind the drywall. Plumber thought the kitchen sink drain might have to be cleared, but decided it wasn't necessary. Suggested instead to dump a container of bleach down the drain and let it sit overnight. Done, thank you.
Description of Work: Plumber found an open pvc vent in basement between the exterior wall and the drywall and installed a cap. He ran water in the kitchen sink and dishwasher to check, and leak stopped.

He was fine. I spent about $408 on the job. The job was fine. He came out on time. He did give me a preliminary estimate. He did the work on the spot. The only thing I did not like was the service fee of $89, which he charged on top of the cost for doing the work. I thought that he was a little pricey. I would use his services in the future if required. However, since I know that he is a little expensive, I might look for another company.

The technician was very courteous and diligent. He seemed very knowledgeable, being able to improvise for a part he didn't have. I would recommend them and use them again. Overall, it was a really good experience. My only minor "knock" is that they didn't have the part I needed, which might mean scheduling another visit, which equals more time (& vacation) I have to allocate this.
Description of Work: I was having a problem getting my radiator heating system to work. It turns out that my boiler had a bad vent damper motor and roll out switch. The technician took about 1.5 hours, which include time he had to leave to purchase a new roll out switch. He didn't have a vent damper motor, so he manually opened the vent damper, this part when eventually installed will run about $350. Manually openning the vent damper will cause me to lose about 5% efficiency until the new vent damper motor is installed.

Can't say enough about Thomas E. Clark...we had a hot surface igniter break on us in the middle of December, leaving us with a child in the house and no heat. They came to the house within a few hours, had the right part and made the repair. The part broke again about 12 hours later and again, we were without heat; however, they came right out and replaced the part again at no charge. About 2 weeks later, the blower motor and wheel blew out, leaving us without heat for a third time, this time in the middle of the night. They got the necessary parts as soon as their vendor opened in the mornign and had our heat back on again by early afternoon, at a very reasonable price for the complexity of the work that needed to be done. Would call them again in a second (but hope I don't have to for a while!)

Water heater internal breaker was tripping. The technician replaced both thermostats (which I provided) and tested the resistance of the heating elements. Since he was 2 hours late, he only charged for the service call and not the labor for replacing the thermostats (which was very quick, 10 minutes tops) The heating elements themselves were the problem, not the thermostats. They were corroded and covered with water settlement which was causing an irregular charge at certain times and making the water heater's internal breaker trip. When I called to report that the problem still existed, I was told it would cost $270 each in addition to the service charge I had already paid, (that's $640 total) to replace both elements. That is an outrageous amount of money to replace heating elements, especially considering they didn't do the job right the first time. The original plumber I used from a different company charged $600 to install the water heater new (which included the cost of the water heater). I had another plumber replace both heating elements with 2 elements I provided ($10 each from Lowes, later credited under warranty) for $120. Once replaced, the elements made significantly less noise when heating up. So much in fact that I didn't believe they had turned on at all. Thomas E Clark should have known from the noise that the original elements could have been the problem and needed to be replaced, especially for the rediculous prices they charge. Draining a hot water tank and changing 2 elements is a simple procedure that takes no more than 1 hour (much less if they use a pump) and should not cost $640. When you schedule the appointment, they do not tell you how much it costs to replace water heater thermostats and elements unless you specifically ask. They wait until the technician arrives, after you've already paid the non-refundable service charge, to tell you how much it will cost. This is a sales gimic that rips people off. If the scheduler on the phone said it would cost $640 to replace 2 heating elements I would have laughed and hung up. I will never use Thomas E Clark again.

We have used this company twice. Both times Jason came out to answer the call (he is always on time). He is great. My 2 year old loves him, which is a bonus to his great services, knowledge and professionalism. He first came in May to service our air conditioner which had a leak. He got it up and working in a day. We have had no further problems. The second time he came back to service our heater. We ended up buying their maintenance plan. The company made it retroactively cover the visit for the heater so that we could save a little money. This is a no hassle company with fair prices who do what they say they will do and deliver it all with a smile. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Check out the heater in our house due to a burning smell. Turns out it was just burning off dust since it was the first time we had used it since the previous winter. Jason, the serviceman, called it right and didn't recommend any further work. He did go ahead and check out the whole system as a preventative step since he was already at our house.

Overall my experience with the work and employee that did the work was great. Martin came in and immediately assessed the problem, quickly gave me a quote and installed the necessary items to my satisfaction. Probably could have it done cheaper, but the quality of work made me content with the price I paid. The issue was a water heater in a closed system with no pressure release option other than the water heater's pressure release valve, which for whatever reason did not work in this case. The water heater tank had expanded and bent out of shape and so needed to be replaced. DC recently installed backflow preventers at all the house meters, so the system used to have a way to alleviate that pressure, but no longer did. Now I have an expansion tank and a pressure alleviation device at the water intake. Not what I wanted to pay for only 5 years after having the last water heater installed, but now I know. Martin did a decent job of explaining what had happened, likely why and what we needed to do to fix it. Will definitely call them again when I have the need.
Description of Work: Assessed damaged water heater, assessed incoming water system as a whole, installed new water heater, installed expansion tank, installed pressure regulator, diagnosed a continuously clogging drain (unrelated to rest of work)

The evening of the Monday before Thanksgiving we discovered a flood behind the washer-dryer. Any water flowing through the basement sink, including from the washing machine, would spray right out of the pipe leading outside. Thomas E Clark had a plumber out the next day. Joe arrived on time, found the problem right away, did a very thorough job of repairing the pipe and replacing the piece that had burst, and left the area completely clean.

I'd used the Thomas Clark company once before, under an emergency situation on a Sunday. Their response at that time was great, so there was no question about calling anyone else for this more 'routine' fix. I called on Wednesday, and they offered me appointments on either Thursday or Friday. I opted for Friday between 12 and 2.. At 10:30 Friday morning their office called and asked if it would be okay with me if the plumber came over a little early since he'd completed a job sooner than expected. I said that was fine, and a half-hour later Joe rang the doorbell (he had been the same plumber who'd responded to my emergency some months ago). We discussed the replacement of the aging cartridges, he gave me the price of the job, and went to work. Within 45 minutes he was done, the faucets were working like new, and Joe left with my thanks and a check.
Description of Work: Replaced old worn cartridges in dripping Moen bathroom faucet (Moen uses these instead of the older style washer mechanism).
