John sent Armando and two other guys out to my house to do radon abatement. I have a small crawl space and it was hard work but these guys were great. They did the job fast and in a very professional manner. I have good piece of mind and thank them for there good work. I think the price was fair and the service was great!

Professional from beginning to finish of the job!! Installed Radon system from the basement and had it run outside the house on the side corner where the system is not noticable. Technican was quick but thorough and cleaned up after himself. He explained how to monitor the system and showed me everything he did. I have told my neighbor about Radon and that they should get their home tested and referred Radon Abatement Services to them. True professionals!!

John and his employees were very professional and responsive. John scheduled the installation quickly and his his crew arrived on time and had it completed within 2 hours of their arrival. They placed the radon mitigation system right where I wanted it even though it was not the easiest location to install it in. Now all that is left to do is to conduct a post mitigation test to see if it is working properly.

They arrived on the day selected within the window provided. Amando was the team leader and provided me with his card. We reviewed where I wanted the equipment installed and the crew (3 guys total) got to work right away. I felt they took great care to make sure that everything looked good and was done well. I asked if they had brown pipe to match the color of my house. They didn?t but Amando and his crew took the time to spray paint the pipe brown. They really did a great job and the final result looked amazing. It was clear the crew was willing to do the little things to make the job perfect. I would recommend them and use them again in the future.

I originally had an appointment with another company that I was completely comfortable with using based on a recommendation from my realtor, but after talking to a few people in the neighborhood, I found Radon Abatement Services and gave them a call. The other company was very responsive, but their website is very out-dated which is a bit of a red flag. Perhaps a bit unfair, but in this day and age, that's an important part of making people feel comfortable with you, particularly with something as critical as this! I got excellent response from Radon Abatement Services, and their reviews here (along with the word of mouth from the neighbors) persuaded me to switch my appointment. I spoke to Jim a few times on the phone, and he was the one who came out for the install, and I couldn't be happier. He knows his stuff, and even swung by before we made the install appointment to check the location I wanted the unit to be on the outside to make sure it would work and be up to code. When he showed up, he was ready to go and did a great job putting it in. The system is very quiet, and he was able to get good suction in the spot we discussed, which is barely noticeable from the road. Using the Angie's List coupons I got the short and long-term test kits, saving me money on a retest, and we can sleep easier knowing the system is doing its job. Before he left, he showed me how the unit operates and what to expect and to keep an eye out for in the future to make sure the system is running optimally. I'm very happy with the job they did and will happily tell my new neighbors about them if it comes up.... one has already asked. Thanks, Jim!

I met the team at the door. Walter the team leader presented me with a business card and introduced his other team member Mario. They had their own foot covers to protect the floors and were so very courteous. Walter assessed what work had to be done ... this was after John Swett the owner had been to the house previously to provide and estimate. Walter explained every step of the way on what they would be doing ... how the system would look outside of the house and where it would be placed. They worked very hard and diligently with smiles on their faces. I knew they had a very long day and I was their last appointment for the day. Walter and Mario finished the project had the entire area cleaned up and were just great guys. Once completed, Walter went over the entire system to show how it worked. The electricians that conducted work in our house prior left electrical wires hanging out of a box and the box on a shelf. Walter happily put the box back in place once it was discovered. The work started a few hours later than I had expected but seeing how much work goes into this ... I was not offended as anything can change on a job. All I can say is a great job ... well done!!!

During the first visit, my property was inspected, an approach for radon abatement was recommended, and a cost estimate was provided. During the second visit, the system was installed. The work was performed very skillfully and the area was cleaned afterwards. Two radon test kits were provided for post-installation testing.
Description of Work: Radon Abatement Services installed a radon removal system consisting of suction pipes through the basement floor and through the basement wall to below a ground level slab. The piping exited the house through the basement wall to a fan and exhaust pipe that extended to above the roof. Post installation testing showed very dramatic decreases in radon levels, to well below the level of concern.

Called John to schedule an appointment. He took information about the house and gave me a quote of $800. After telling him we wanted to have the job done, his partner, Tim, called to set a date to have the work done. We set up a time a week away (He indicated it could have been done a few days later but we were going out of town for a week). Tim came out exactly at the scheduled time. He took a look at the basement and the location of the sump pump and access to the exterior. He drilled through the siding to run the pipe from the sump pump in the basement going up to above the roof. He installed a switch and connected to an electrical outlet in the family room above the basement. The job was done in about 3 hrs and he ran everything neatly. He hid the pipe behind the chimney in the least conspicuous location. He sealed the sump pump and around the pipe coming through the wall, tested the system and explained how to make sure it was operating. He did not have a radon test kit with him but said he would mail it the next day. He ended up bringing it by the house personally a few days later. We tested for radon a week later, mailed the canisters to the lab, and received our test results a week later. Our radon level before installation was measured at 5.8 pL. After installation of the system, our radon level was at 0.4 pL. Would highly recommend this company - good price, great service, and great results, from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Installed an active radon removal system through existing sump, ran through basement wall to outside, ran vent pipe to above roof line, provided electrical connection to fan.

The experience overall was a positive one. The exterior part of the system is behind shrubbery. A nondescript pipe carries the air above the level of the house; it does not stand out. The interior part of the system is in a little closet in our basement. Overall, it is a clean efficient system that relieves our minds about radon levels in our home.
Description of Work: A local (Northern Virginia) representative of this Maryland company came to our home to see what would be appropriate for radon mitigation. After inspecting the exterior and basement, he told me exactly what could be done and set a date for the installation of a radon abatement system that would pull air (and radon) from under the house and emit it above the roof into the exterior air. He gave me an accurate estimate of the cost. There is radon everywhere in the air, but the danger is in radon that accumulates inside a house at a higher level of density. We had done a test (bought at Lowe's) in the basement of our house and found a radon level that indicated action, according to federal standards posted on a US Government website. That's why we looked up companies that dealt with high levels of radon in homes. The representative gave us an estimate, made an appointment to install the system, accepted an Angie's List coupon for a testing kit, and returned on the date of the appointment. He installed the system, gave me a long term test kit (for 90 days or more), and, later, mailed me a short term test kit. He answered all my questions about any possible future problems or repairs concerning the system. He completed installation within the day. In all matters, he behaved very professionally, promptly, and efficiently. I would recommend this company for their professionalism, courtesy, and effectiveness. After we sent the long term test kit in for processing at a laboratory (a different company from Radon Abatement Services), the results showed radon in the basement of our home to be no greater than the radon in typical outside air. We were very pleased!

From the first time I called them for an estimate they were very professional and personable. Set up an appointment to give an estimate on a radon abatement system and Jim Ferguson arrived exactly on time. Explained everything he was going to do and conducted a very thorough inspection of my home. After, he explained the next steps and gave me a verbal estimate and said I'd have a written estimate and sample contract that night in an email. Received it and confirmed the installation date. Jim arrived with his son right on time and installed the system exactly as previously described. Cleaned up after themselves and explained the system maintenance and warranty, which is on the structure and fully transferable to a new owner. Overall a very positive experience.

Radon Abatement's Mr. Jim Humphries, and the company, is great at radon abatement! We had a fairly routine sump pump application, and were very pleasantly surprised with the work's function and appearance. Jim is very knowledgable. Quality and professionalism are incredible. I had a follow up question, and was impressed when he said he was in this for the long haul. He knows his business. No regrets. Remember to ask for the free follow up test kit for Angie's List customers.

Radon Abatement Services, John Swett, and his crew were OUTSTANDING and they will be my only "go to" source of radon abatement services. By way of background, the radon mitigation system on my home was installed by another company (Radon Control Professionals, Inc; 2510 Soapstone Drive, Reston, VA) and was very noisy. On some nights it sounded like someone was outside shaking the gutters. I called Radon Control Professionals twice to address the issue and they did nothing to correct it, even telling me that the vibrating noises were normal or caused by condensation and nothing to do but relocate the system which would be $350 in addition to the original $800 it cost for the initial install. Radon Abatement Services came to the rescue and quickly identified the likely source of the noise as being the metal vent pipe. To make matters worse, the top 1/3 of the vent pipe was not well secured which caused the pipe to vibrate and move more than it should. The metal vent pipe was also secured to my gutters which amplified the noise further since the gutters are attached to the house and almost served like a conductor for the sound in my opinion. The noise got so bad on some nights that we had to use music or run a fan to drown out the sound so we could sleep. Radon Abatement Services replaced the metal vent pipe with PVC. They also ran the new PVC pipe adjacent to the gutters and secured the PVC pipe to the house instead of the gutters. Unfortunately because the other company secured the original metal vent pipe to my gutters, I now have holes in the gutters where brackets had been mounted. Radon Abatement Services caulked the holes and when they were up on the ladder they noticed a crack between the siding and an exhaust vent where the caulking had deteriorated. The crew offered to caulk the crack since they were already up there. I thought this small gesture was very gracious as most contractors never offer to do anything extra, however small. The crew was also very professional, competent, and efficient in addition to being polite, courteous, and respectful. They arrived within the scheduled time window and called in advance as I requested. 5 STARS!
Description of Work: Troubleshot the noise problem with a radon mitigation system installed by another company and performed necessary repairs to remediate the noise. Radon Abatement Services replaced the existing metal vent pipe with PVC. I can barely hear the system now - noise problem solved! Added bonus is the entire experience working with Radon Abatement Services was excellent from start to finish. Keep up the great work guys!

work looks very good. they charged us $300 extra because it looked like there was no gravel. Then when they found there was in fact gravel (which took drilling to get too) they refunded us the amount. appreciate the honesty. we were not present when the work was done, so called John for a walk-through, which he provided, to clarify what everything was. Our house is both basement and concrete-on-slab. Two separate pipes were installed for each section, which is the proper way according to the EPA. Another radon company had called to given an estimate and said two separate pipes were not necessary, so I appreciate that Radon Abatement Services did things the right way.

When Jim Humphryes called me to schedule my estimate for radon abatement, he told me he had to go by my home on his way home that day and could he stop by. So very prompt service there. The estimate was thorough and about what I expected so we scheduled the fan installation. Jim came out promptly at the scheduled time and was spot-on with his install time estimate. The fan he installed in the attic runs with no detectable noise in the house. Jim was very courteous and professional, and we highly recommend Radon Abatement Services.

We are in the process of selling our house, an inspection by the seller identified that the Radon levels were above 4.0, buyers requested we install a Radon extraction system. Our Realtor provided contact details for two companies, however we had an Angie's list subscription, which we had not really used that much, and decided to look on Angie's List to see if we could find an alternative. Radon Abatement Services were at the top of the ratings, I read through several reviews and was impressed with the A ratings and annual awards they had received. We called their office on Monday 14th and left our details with the Office Manager. The owner called us back that evening, we talked through the options for remediation, including best location and cost. While this was only a 10 minute call it was evident that the owner understood the issues very well and we agreed on a price and a date. The two recommendations from our Realtor didn't work out. One didn't call back within 24 hours, we called them again and left a message, they did call back to explain that the crew left early that morning and we should call the owner that evening. The second one may have worked out, his pricing was in the same range as Radon Abatement Services but the owner was away and suggested if we did not get anyone lined up we could call them when he returned. Radon Abatement Services provided us with a proposal for the exact priced that we had discussed and for the service to be performed today at 09:30. Crew turned up on time, had a Contractors Utility truck with the name of the Company and several Angie's List award logo's. Crew chief presented us with his card, took his shoes off and followed us to the basement to view the work area. The actual space for installation was quite limited and I wanted it installed in a specific spot, which made it a little harder for the crew but they wanted to do a good job and make us happy. Next was an Introduction to the other two members of the crew and the very first thing they did was to lay a protective covering over the the floors and staircase. The work took about 3 hours to complete, they kept me informed of progress and doubled checked locations for the pipework and ducting. The finished work is outstanding, they positioned the fan unit behind a bush so that the only part exposed is the ducting itself, for which they used guttering downspout identical to that already on the house. During the clean up process I looked out of the window and one of the crew was sweeping UPC pipe shavings from the driveway into a dustpan! First time we have used Angie's list to specifically identify and select a Contractor and the experience couldn't have been better. Thank you Angie's list for a first class service, thank you Radon Abatement Services for doing a world class job. John

We were in the process of selling our home in Gainesville, VA when the home inspection report/radon test came back with the radon reading above the recommended levels. The new buyers wanted the this issue fixed and the home re-tested. I got on Angie's List and looked at the highest rated companies and called Radon Abatement Services. I gave them the home description and was quoted a price of $825.00 plus $100.00 for a re-test by an independent company. I then received a phone call from John Swett with Radon Abatement Services confirming my appointment and going over their services. Upon reading the radon test results to him, he recommended a follow up call to the lab as the levels were estimates based on lack of time information. The date of pick up for the test was also off by a day as it was the Friday after Thanksgiving when the canisters were picked up to take to the lab. I contacted the director of the testing facility and discussed the "estimated" results and asked for an explanation as to why they were not specific. Upon the director reviewing the results and the information I provided as to when the canisters were actually placed in my home and picked up, he stated that the test results were useless as too much time had passed for accurate results. He recommended a re-test. Mysteriously, based on the correct information I provided the testing company, the results were recalculated and my home was well within the recommended radon readings. All of this information was provided to the buyers as they paid for the initial test and their realtor followed up with the lab as well. Based on my conversation with John at Radon Abatement Services, he was honest enough to recommend follow up with the lab and did not push an unnecessary ventilation system for our home. The buyers were satisfied with the results and no system was installed. I called John back and thanked him for his honesty and the advice he gave as it save me $925.00 in the end and prevented me from paying for something that was not needed.
