Daniel Krienbuehl Contractors Inc

General Remodeling, Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Doors,

About us

Daniel started his construction career in 1983 as an apprentice in Switzerland, Europe. There he learned from experienced old school carpenters how to timber frame and build log houses. Cutting mortise and tenons for structural posts is still something that's done today. Since the late 80's, Daniel has learned all about the ever-changing U.S. construction industry. Daniel started his own remodeling company in 2001 and has since designed and built many additions and remodels in and around Montgomery County, MD. Due to years of experience, Daniel is able to make design changes that make construction easier and cheaper. He has proved himself to be a great communicator so that all parties involved in a remodeling project work as one. His ability to plan, schedule, and execute projects have made jobs less stressful and more rewarding for his clients. Things most frequently mentioned in client reviews are that Daniel and DK are staying within budget, getting the job done on time, are responsive and available, have clean and organized job sites, and are experienced. I was very grateful for his advice, and based on his professionalism, was quite disappointed that I would not be able to work with him further.
Description of Work: I called Daniel to see if someone could give me a very preliminary and rough sense of how much it would cost to fully renovate an old townhouse in DC that I was thinking of buying. Daniel spent about 20 minutes discussing the project with me and giving me thoughtful and professional advice. At the end, when I mentioned that I would be back in touch if I decided to go ahead and buy the property, he apologetically informed me that he was not licensed to practice in DC. In other words he had just spent 20 minutes (on a Saturday) sharing his professional advice out of pure courtesy.

Daniel and his people are excellent. Very professional. They are punctual. They take a great deal of pride in their work. This is the second job they have done for me. They did a garage and mud room, and I called them back to do the screen room which also involved putting on a new roof and working on my existing roof. I highly recommend them. I would use them again. They also built storage under my deck for me on this job. I felt I got an overall good price on this project. They were prompt even when we ran into a problem with the timing. He let me know, he explained to me what was happening. I always felt I knew what was going on. He handled it well. I highly recommend them and would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: The build a screened room above my existing deck. They also did some repair on my roof.

It was just a great experience. Daniel is incredibly pleasant to work with as is his team. He is very professional and punctual. In addition, he has nice suggestions for how to handle some issues where we were looking for deisgn advice in addition to just construction. Very trustworthy. Would we use him again?Yes. We are going to have him do another room in our house this fall.
Description of Work: Finished part of our unfinished basement and improved the part of the finished section that needed some help. This involved tearing down a wall, replacing all the ceilings, installing an interior door, creating an equipment closet, installing recessed lighting and covering ductwork. End product looks fantastic.

Daniel was extremely professional from the start. He walked through the entire area with us and came up with an idea for the final floor plan that we had not considered before (and we eventually adopted). He was timely with his estimate, and was nonplussed when we came back with changes and additions. The work started when he promised and finished when he promised, and the crew was polite and cleaned up after themselves each day. The final work was top notch. We only had one item on our punch list! Daniel spotted and corrected any problems before we could say anything, and he went above and beyond what we expected by doing small things like mounting the flat-screen TV, adding lights to the closets that turn on automatically when the doors open, and even cutting a whole in our new entertainment shelves to accommodate the plugs. Daniel himself is a good man who is honest and easy to work with. I highly recommend Daniel for any home improvement work, and we'll use him again.
Description of Work: We remodeled an addition with 2 rooms and a bathroom and turned it into a first floor master suite. Daniel added a closet, resurfaced the ceiling, reconfigured the space and moved a door, replaced all doors, gutted, expanded, and redid the entire bathroom (tile & fixtures), removed old paneling and replaced with drywall, and painted the area.

Dan was delightful to work with from the beginning, starting with incredible attention to courtesy at all times. He helped us decide exactly how to do the job and then delivered exactly what we requested and what he promised. Dan went out of his way to introduce me to his subcontractors and make sure I knew what they would be doing. A few "punch list" items were promptly and cheerfully disposed of without the nagging that can frequently be required. This was a model of how a home-renovation project could go, principally because the people doing it were first-class and honest.

I found him on Angie's List. He was rated an A, and I would give him an A as well. He did a beautiful job. He showed up every morning at 7:30 on time. He and the two people he works with were very conscientious, reliable, and polite. They were really good to work with. Overall, they were fabulous. They cleaned up their mess and did everything on time and within budget. The pricing was very fair. It was a big addition. I hope he will come back and do more.

I love Daniel! He is honest and very flexible! I had an issue with my health and ended up in Hawaii for two months to recuperate. In that time, he said he completely understood and he rearranged his schedule to work around mine. He just said to let him know when I got back. We have been in contact with each other and he has said if he has a break in his contract he would finish our one bathroom and then he would do our other projects. The fact that he's been so flexible with me is one of the reasons I am continuing to work with him. His prices are very competitive and reasonable. I like the fact that he is here while the work is actually being done. He has very good ideas and is open to ideas. Some contractors blew me off and treated me as a child. When I came up with an idea of a pocket door, Daniel thought it was great and offered to work around it. He really listens to the client. If I have an idea that might not work, he'll explain why and the cost. I can't say enough about him! I would recommend him to anybody.
Description of Work: They are remodeling one bathroom now and will do another when this is done. I've decided I'm going to have him do our basement too.

Daniel and his workers, Harry and Walter, did an exceptional job in enclosing a screen porch in preparation for expanding our kitchen and bathroom. He gave a prompt and accurate estimate and started the work exactly on the decided date. The workers showed up promptly at 7:30 am every day and cleaned up at the end of each day. Having a 90 year house meant that there were unexpected problems, and Daniel solved each one in turn without fuss or agitation. Poor construction from a previous addition (about 1943) required special structural reinforcement, which was done well. The sag in the outside corner was corrected without causing cracking of upstairs walls. Daniel had a subcontractor come in and build new basement walls. The subcontractor was also prompt, did excellent work, and cleaned up well. The work was completed within a day or two of the original schedule.
Description of Work: He enclosed a screen porch, added a basement below it and installed a bay window and patio door, as well as general framing and structural reinforcement.

Daniel was a pleasure to work with; very professional, flexible and committed to our satisfaction. His proposal was simple, understandable, and delivered in a low-key, non-pressured way. When we hit some glitches in the installation plan, which invariably occurs in any significant project, Daniel worked out a solution and provided additional services without affecting the bottom line; when our plan to stain one door didn't result in something we liked, he went back and painted instead, resulting in a perfect solution. Daniel's work team was friendly and neat in their work; we felt comfortable having them in our house. We could not have been happier with Daniel and definitely would use him again for home remodeling projects.
Description of Work: Replaced 9 interior doors, a firedoor to our garage and double-doors to a custom shed attached to the house; helped select the doors, and provided complete custom finishing of some interior doors to match others. Each door was a custom installation for non-standard door frames.

They crew is just wonderful people, and they are very easy to work with. They were very fair, flexible, and skillful. We agreed on what he was going to do for the downstairs job months before the job started. Even with the gas prices that went so high this summer, he didn't change his bid! I am always pleased with the outcome of his services, and I would recommend his services to anybody. I would use him again for any future projects.
Description of Work: I have used him once before. Since then, I had him completely strip the master bath down to the timbers and bricks, and build a new bathroom. Then in the summer, I had him completely remodel the extension to the downstairs, which included replacing a standard back door with a three section floor to ceiling door(which meant cutting away a lot of the wall)built floor to ceiling book shelves, and a new half bath(there had been no plumbing there before).

From start to finish this project was flawless. The project started on the agreed to date and was completed a little ahead of schedule. Daniel and his crew (Walter and Henry) were on time every day and cleaned up at the end of the day. The crew was polite and did excellent work on every aspect of the project especially the tile work. The only work they did not perform was the glass tub enclosure and resolving a heating and cooling issue. Daniel kept in touch with me every day in person, on the phone or by email to resolve any concerns or issues. He helped find the tub and a water efficient toilet. He also suggested places to find tile and a glass enclosure for the tub. I purchased an antique chest to use as a vanity. Daniel picked it up without complaint and worked with me to find the appropriate sized sink and faucets. Working with Daniel was an enjoyable, collaborative experience. He clearly takes pride in the projects he takes on and I think he's as pleased as I am with the project.
Description of Work: Daniel and crew did a total remodel of my bathroom. Since the walls and the floor were tiled the project included gutting the existing bathroom down to the studs and starting over.

When soliciting bids for this project, I choose Daniel Krienbuehl because I was most impressed by his taking the time to thoroughly examine the situation in order to provide a proper proposal and also listening closely to what I wanted to achieve. This is a 1938-built house with some inherent quirkiness so it was important for me to hire someone who understood this and could problem solve if any problems were encountered. From start to finish Daniel and his crew were a pleasure to work with, attentive, timely, professional, knowledgeable, clean, communicative and just all around impressive. Once work was under way I had no qualms about the quality of the end result and the project was kept on time and within budget. Part of the work involved installing a new rail system, and since it would be an important feature of the newly remodeled space, we agreed that the type of railing system I was looking for would be best handled by a specialized stair contractor. Daniel referred me to an excellent company and worked together with them and me to ensure we'd achieved the desired outcome. Then Daniel stepped aside while the stair contractor did his work and patiently waited until the railing was complete (this process took quite a while). Finally, Daniel arranged for a county inspection of the work and was on site the day the inspector showed up. The work passed inspection with no hitches. I am thrilled with how the remodel turned out and feel that Daniel and his crew provided exceptional service and value. Daniel is very easy to work with, very accommodating, and I have complete confidence in his abilities. I would not hesitate to work with him, again, and hope to do so in the near future on my next project.
Description of Work: Converted a small closet area at the top of the stairs into an open loft-like area. Required removing a wall separating the closet from the stairway, removing another wall with the closet entry door, and completely removing all old plaster and lathe from remaining walls and ceiling in the former closet and landing area, and installing drywall, framing in a window, and installing window trim and baseboard. Was originally going to try to keep some of the existing plaster on the walls, but during the demo work, Daniel advised essentially gutting the entire area because the final result would look more uniform and I wouldn't have to worry about anymore cracking plaster (he was right). Also installed insulation around window and in wall spaces. Provided a referral for an excellent stair contractor who removed the rickety old stair rail, and replaced it with a beautiful new railing system, including a rail in place of the demolished stairwell wall. Saw the project through to the final county inspection.

Daniel met with us on a Monday evening and talked through possible options with us. He spent a considerable amount of time answering our questions and we had an estimate by the end of the week. The price was well below the other two estimates that we received and we felt extremely comfortable by his knowledge and professionalism. His company was booked through April (which he told us at our initial meeting), but managed to fit our project in between two larger jobs- in less than 2 weeks from the date of our original first meeting. The crew was punctual and very professional. Daniel was on site at the beginning of each work day to oversee the efforts and answer any questions that we may have. Our job was completed in 1 1/2 days. The sub floor is now very solid and the laminate flooring that is being laid down looks amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend this contractor. For our next home improvement project, we will definitely be contacting Daniel!
Description of Work: We had Dank Contracting re-enforce the sub floor in our 30 year old townhouse so that we would be able to lay down laminate flooring. The work they performed included: Screwing down existing floor. Replacing wrongly installed sheet at bottom of stairs. Installing plywood over existing sub-floor on first floor. Gluing new sheets to old sub-floor with liquid nail.

Daniel and 2 workers arrived exactly on time every day and we felt confident leaving the house while they were there each day. There were no surprises or unanticipated costs. The work was done thoroughly and professionally and all was cleaned up at the end of the day. Overall this was a very good experience and we're pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Daniel performed the following work: installed new front door; new fire rated door to the garage; new door to outside from garage; and removed all old doors. Installed 2 sheets of drywall at garage ceiling; installed new stair railing and applied varnish; removed railing between kitchen and family room and installed half-wall with drywall and paint on both sides; installed small soffit over new wall; installed 2 light fixtures over breakfast bar and one outlet in new wall; installed counter support for new breakfast bar. The company did an excellent job. The bathroom is absolutely beautiful. Daniel and his crew (Henry and Walter) were fully responsive to my every question and suggestion. Daniel's style was very consultative -- he even met with my tile designer to make sure he understood the vision she and I came up with for the tile. Henry and Walter arrived each of the 16-day project like clockwork. You could set your watch to their arrival. They cleaned up their worksite everyday after they finished. I love my new bathroom.
Description of Work: Complete demolition of existing 70+ year-old bathroom (tub, sink, tile wall, tile floor), down to the wall and floor joists. Installation of new cement board, plywood backing, floor tile, wall tile and tub-shower wall tile to the ceiling, new Kohler tub, new Duravit wall-mounted sink, new Toto toilet, all Hansgrohe fixtures/faucets, new recessed lighting, and glass mosaic tile trim. Everything went like clockwork and as described in advance. Daniel Krienbuehl and his crew arrived at exactly 7:30 a.m. every day. The contractor began when he said he would and finished when he said he would. Everybody was extremely polite and responsive. Mr. Krienbuehl kept me informed at all times. There was absolutely no muss, no fuss. In fact, they left the unremodeled part of my basement neater than they found it. I love these guys! DKC's bid was less than half the amount of the highest bidder. Also, I felt 100% confident based on Mr. Krienbuehl and his crew's demeanor about giving them keys to the house and having them work while I was not at home.
Description of Work: DKC remodeled part of my basement. This included: Stripping out an old half bath and creating a new one, with new dry wall, toilet, basin, electric fixtures, door, etc. About one-third of the basement floor was laid with ceramic tiles and two-thirds with linoleum tiles. Replaced old and unsafe electrical switches, removed old cast iron double wash tub and replaced with new, painted walls, replaced some ceiling tiles.

Daniel was accompanied by 2 of his workmen, one of them named Henry. Daniel was a pleasure to work with in designing the new entryway, and quickly received a building permit. The work done is aesthetically pleasing, with attention to detail. The workmen were courteous and were mindful of locking up the house at the end of each day.
Description of Work: The work included installation of a new entry door, front landing, and overhang. The entry door was installed in a location where there was no previous door, and a vent was moved to accommodate this change. The front landing was constructed with pressure-treated lumber and composite decking material. Construction of the overhang included extending the roofline and soffit, and rerouting existing vents.

Explained in full both on the phone & via email what the job would entail prior to owner coming for estimate. Mr.KRLENBUEHI came to look at the work (tiling, vanity & fixture installation) and decided he was "too booked up". Felt that this was a waste of my time since he should have been aware of his schedule prior to booking the estimate. He declined to give us an estimate.
Description of Work: Masterbath remodel we requested an estimate for: build tub framing, set it in concrete/mortar & connect the plumbing for tub, complete bathroom tiling with baseboard molding and tiling for tub surround up to ceiling install 2 vanities (one 36" vanity and one 48" vanity), install 2 medicine cabinets (if possible recessed), install toilet and 2 sinks, install a walk-in closet system in the small room next to the bathroom.
