The Gutter Guys

Several years ago I had gutter covers installed on my house with a lifetime guarantee. The guarantee was cut short by the company going out of business. This spring I had a problem with our rear gutter overflowing and sending water down the back walls of our house. I contacted several handymen, gutter cleaners and roofers on your list including "Gutter Guys". They were not at all interested in lifting the covers and cleaning the gutters. Instead they wanted to sell me their brand of "improved" covers for hundreds of dollars. It seems to me that if they don't want to provide service, that they should not advertise as such.

Called for an estimate and Gutter Guys sent someone 2 days later. Work was scheduled and completed within 10 days. Fascia under the soffets on one side of the house needed to be replaced. Workers were punctual, friendly, and cleaned everything up after they finished. They even inspected the other fascias on the other side of the house and reattached some loose soffets without my asking and for no charge. Great company, great experience! Have already recommended them to friends.

They came when they said they would, completed the work in the one day and cleaned up all the debris. The work was guaranteed for a lifetime and would transfer to another owner, which makes me happy. The gutters look great and are performing well with all the rain we have had. I am very happy I got it done in April.

They plumbed it! Couldn't have gone any smoother. I was getting new vinyl soffit placed by another company and needed to get my gutters removed & reinstalled for that job. Because I had my gutters done by gutter guys a year earlier, & I didn't want to lose my warranty, I had them remove them early Monday morning and reinstall them after the vinyl soffit installation was complete late Tuesday. Scheduling: They were so easy to deal with. The schedule kept changing because I insisted that the install be done when there was no chance of rain for 2 days. That's not so easy in late march. The vinyl installation company, Dan (from gutter guys), and myself all communicated via email to work out dates. It couldn't have gone more smoothly. Dan was a true pleasure to work it. The install date changed at least 3 times. Dan was flexible and was extremely accommodating. Workmanship: All the gutters were reinstalled without issue. Warranty: 3 years. And I know that if any issues come up, Dan will take care of them. He's truly a pleasure to deal with!

It went well. The team (one experienced repair person and two assistants) maneuvered their ladders carefully in the front yard and back yard, taking care not to crush or damage the shrubs. I can imagine that it's not easy to work around city row houses! They came when they said they would, explained to me what they were doing, and worked carefully and efficiently. Though I was probably their last job of the day, they didn't rush and they gave my small job their full attention. I signed the agreement on Jan 10 but the work wasn't done until March 11, after I had made a worried call to Chuck Johnson. I realize that gutter companies have been working over-time to fix the damage from this winter's unusual ice accumulation. I wish I hadn't waited so long to call, because I now have to deal with the water damage caused by the failed gutters.

The old gutters were about 20 years old. No matter how much we had them cleaned, they overflowed during rainstorms and iced over in the winter. We got bids from two contractors (a third came out to the house but never submitted a bid). The Gutter Guys offer was a bit lower than the other contractor (price includes an Angie's List coupon for a 10% discount) and their overall Angie's List ratings were higher. Matt, the Gutter Guys estimator, visited us on December 18, 2010, walked the house outside and worked up a detailed remodeling specification sheet. He was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. The other contractor had recommended 6" gutters. Although 6" gutters would have been a bit more expensive, Matt recommended we go with 5" gutters because they are standard for residences. Matt also felt that 6" gutters were unnecessary and would look odd in a residential neighborhood. We signed the contract on December 23, 2010. It wasn't possible to do the work until February 3, 2011 due to weather, but the Gutter Guys called us a few days before, without any prompting from us, to tell us they would be out on the 3d to do the installation. On the 3d, one of the installers called me on my cell to inform me that the wood under the gutters was rotten. I authorized him to replace the wood, at an additional charge of $360 (the $1968 total amount spent includes this extra charge). The work was performed within one day and the Gutter Guys thoroughly cleaned the site. We were very happy with the Gutter Guys professionalism and prompt service.

A representative from the gutter guys came out and gave me an estimate of about $500 to fix a gutter along the back of my house that way misaligned. This apparently required ordering new clips to hold the gutter on--a 6-week process. After receiving a written estimate, I call the company to confirm that I wanted to move forward with the work. I was told that it wasn't necessary for me to call or do anything and they would be out to fix the gutter as soon as the clips came in. Weeks and weeks went by with no contact from the company. When I called in mid-January I was told that I'd have to schedule the work again. That the person that I was working with was subsequently fired. When I asked why someone else from the company didn't call me to make sure that everything was in order, I was just given excuses. Terrible way to run a business.

I got 2 estimates for the job, the gutter guys were about $100 cheaper than the first estimate and they were also cleaning all of the gutters and adding a 2nd downspout. The both the estimator and guys who came to do the work were professional and courteous. They made the gutters on site and since gutters is all they do, they have every color to choose from. They knew the color for the gutter was butter cream while the exisiting downspouts were egg shell. Seems like a minor detail but the other company was going to install almond. It wouldv'e stood out like a sore thumb. I couldn't be happier with the work they performed.

This was a great company to deal with. They were very responsive to my initial phone call. Matt, the job estimator, arrived on time on the scheduled date. He discussed the work to be performed in detail and gave an estimated cost. When I agreed, he provided a written description of the work along with the cost. They called the day before the work was to be done to confirm the time. On the day of the job, Randy and Brandon, the employees who did the work, arrived a little early (which was great for us) and briefly verified with me what they were going to do. They were professional, hard workers who cleaned up after the work was done. The job took about 1-1/2 hours to complete. The price was exactly as stated on the estimate. I highly recommend them. In fact, we will have them install gutter guards on all of our gutters next Spring.

I contacted Gutter Guys via the e-mail link at Angie's List on October 5, 2010. After a week with no reply, I e-mailed them again via Angie's List on October 12. As of today, October 27, 2010, I still have not received any reply or telephone call from them.

Back on 7/24/2010 I submitted a report giving the Gutter Guys an 'F' because they did not provide a timely estimate as promised. However, after posting this post on Angie's list I got a call from Chuck who apologized for my disappointment and eagerly wanted to make good. Given his sincerity I decided to contract them to replace my guttering....and was I glad I did. In addition to a great price the work was completed in a professional and timely matter. The workmen cleaned up nicely when the job was complete and I got a follow-up phone call from Chuck making sure I was happy with the service and workmanship. I told him I was delighted with Gutter Guys performance and was impressed with his tireless effort to make things right. I go from giving Gutter Guys and 'F' to an A++ and would highly recommend them to family and friends.

This is actually pretty simple...I emailed via the Angie's List link, didn't hear back. Emailed again, didn't hear back. Called, left message (despite calling during posted business hours), didn't hear back. Called again, left message, didn't hear back. Gave up.

Workers arrived promptly. They knew exactly what they had to do and got right to the job. The gutters and guards were installed with precision.The final product looks great and yesterday I had a chance to see my new gutters in action as it rained nearly all day. I am very pleased with the company, the estimator, the work crew and the product.

After snowmaggeddon, we were like thousands of others in the Midatlantic area and had gutter and downspout damage. We joined Angie's list for recommendations on who to use to repair them. Gutter Guys was highly recommended. We got estimates from 4 different providers [all from Angies List] and selected Gutter Guys due to the overwhelming recommendations. The estimate was fair in comparison and the estimator from them wanted to be sure we were comparing apples to apples. After the contract was signed they had no follow up, the service was terrible - I called many times to get scheduled, was forwarded to the same guy who did the estimate and my calls were not returned. I understand they were busy - all of the gutter folks were - but to not return phone calls, to not schedule the repairs - was ridiculous. I will never recommend them nor use them again.

It went very bad. The spout was placed too close to the garage structure and the garage got water in when it rained heavily. I could not get them to come and fix it even after two weeks of phone call. At the end i repaired it my self, installing a couple of long extensions to the down spout.

The gentleman who gave me my estimate was very personable and professional. He called to let me know that he was en route. He arrived on time. He was knowledgeable, and could see immediately what I could not see, that the winter snowstorms had bent the gutter away from the downspout. He did not try to "oversell" what I needed, such as a gutter helmet or a replacement for the front gutter, which was newer. His estimate was hundreds of dollars less than other suppliers, including the estimate I had arranged through my Costco membership. The day of the installation, the three young men had the old gutter down and the new gutter up in a quick and professional manner. They were respectful of my porch and gardens, and caused no damage. They completely cleaned up, and I have a beautiful and functional new gutter.

I was told in person and over the phone that they could install a new gutter even though there was a squirrel trap in place. When they came they said that they had to take the squirrel trap out. I did not realize that they would be taking out all the screen around the trap also. My exterminator was not happy when he had to start the whole process all over again. If they would have told me before hand that they don't work around squirrel traps, I would have just waited until the trap was removed and this would not have been a problem. I also found all the screws from the trap all over my freshly planted flower bed. The debri and clumps of leaves from the old gutter were also all over my flowers. I contacted the gutter guys and spoke with the manager Dan. He was very apologetic about the mess and said he would send someone out to clean it up and see what happened. He was not sorry about the squirrel trap and said they notified us that they could not work around it. I tried to explain that I did not realize they were taking down all the screening also but he was not interested in listening.

sales rep did not recommend gutter guard as we didn't need it. i appreciate that he didn't try to sell us the more expensive product we didn't need. they honored the angies discount, showed up on scheduled date, did a good job, cleaned up debris, rolled a magnet around to get small stuff. There were a few cigarette butts and some lunch leftovers I would have preferred not to have to clean up. At one place where their gutters meet the siding on my house, their gutter is smaller than the original. as such, there were gaps. i think they should have filled this space with caulk. doing nothing exposes the house to water and possibly mold growth. I did it myself. In the back they decided to not put a piece of gutter on b/c it wasn't necessary. originally they left the space uncovered which again would have exposed the house to water. i called up and they came out and fixed it. they also decided to not install a downspout b/c it wasn't needed, decreasing the cost of the job. It did take several phone calls to the office to finally be issued a check. All in all a good job. would appreciate more attention to detail.

They were very professional and polite, knew what they were doing, and had enough staff to get the job done quickly. They cleaned up afterward. They were a little late, but let us know in advance. And with the amount of storm damaged gutters in town right now, it must be difficult to keep up and be on time for every appointment. We were very pleased with their service and would recommend.

They originally told me that it might be 4 weeks out to do the work. Surprisingly, they called one week after the estimate saying they had an opening. They came out and in one day did all the work, cleaned up after themselves and did an excellent job. We did have a complaint about some shingles that were up. They assured me that they would go down with the heat of the next sunny day, but came out the next day to make sure. They flattened them as much as they could and again reassured me that they would lie flat after a hot day. They have! The man I dealt with on the phone was so nice and took time to talk to me and really listen to my concern.

Well, the snow, of '10 did in a gutter I should have replaced years ago. It had fallen from too much snow and ice (and me hitting it with a shovel. Not recommended...) Called The Gutter Guys. Despite huge business volumes, they came over within a couple of days for an estimate. I was told that they would remove the broken gutter within a few days, and that the replacement would be completed before mid-March. They came the NEXT DAY to remove the broken gutter, and the replacement was done ahead of their own schedule by a couple of days. A billing snafu and an overcharge was quickly handled with one very professional phone call. I thought that the pricing was very fair. They called to tell me when the work was going to be finished, and everyone I dealt with was friendly and helpful. I would definitely hire this company again, and have already recommended them to friends.

Last and best estimate with the most detail. I was exceedingly impressed as this estimate was the lowest and had a diagram of what would change. Brought up that an additional downspout would be needed to be up to code and that I should also get my roof checked. Working with insurance now plan to hire them.

Despite severe, winter weather conditions in the area, the appointment for an estimate took place, within just 3 business days after I called. The estimator arrived on time. I was sold only what I needed and wanted. He promised completion of the work, "within 2 to 3 weeks, weather permitting," after the contract was signed. Just 3 days later, they arrived to do the job, but found that the snow and ice in the gutters made work too dangerous. One week later, after the ice and snow had melted, they returned and did the job, in under 5 hours. As light was fading on the first day, they promised to complete the job on the next day, despite the fact that it was a Sunday. They did so. The work was completed within 11 days after the contract was signed. The crew was very polite, professional, and responsive to any concerns or requests. My credit card was not charged, for anything, until the job was completed.

The estimator arrived on time, actual 15 mins. early. He then examined the gutters on the house, afterwhich I explained what we had been experciencing with leaves and water behind the existing gutters. The main part of the house has a slate roof and the addition and the screened porch have asphalt roofing. We were happy to hear that the Gutter Guys had developed a gard system that would work in conjunction with a slate roof. He asked how soon we would like to start, to which we responded ASAP. We set a date and the installers arrived on time. Needless to say living in Baltimore these past couple of months has been a challenge. Mother Nature gave the gutters a real test with the 2 storms, that had an accumulations of 24 plus inches of snow. The gutters not only held up to all the snow and ice that formed but look really nice on the house. Of course I knocked off ice when necessary where I could with the extention pole they provided but some sections were not excessable but they held. I would certainly recommend the Gutter Guys.

Everything went as planned, from the estimate to the actually work. Gutters look great!
