AG Floors

AG Floors provided excellent service. There were on time and efficient when we received the initial estimate. Their estimate was nearly 40% lower than the nearest two competitors. The crew arrived daily on time and finished each day only after they had thoroughly cleaned up after themselves and properly sealed off the treated area. The floors were estimated to take three full days but they actually finished faster than expected. The floors look great and if we need the wood treated in other levels of our home in the future we will use AG Floors.

5 31st PIf you are looking for a company to sand and finish your floors, look no further. From the moment that they did a bid to the completion of the floors they were wonderful and so nice to work with. The home office staff easily scheduled the visit for the proposal.They were the only company that provided the bid on the spot and their price was very reasonable. They were amazingly patient and helpful in picking out the stain color which is not easy. They put down six different stain colors that I had selected and then helped me find one that matched a floor that was already finished. During the work they were amazingly responsive when I caused a couple of snafus. I gave them the wrong key to get in and then another contractor I was working with walked on the fresh stain. They worked through both issues without a hitch and did not even charge me additionally when the floors had to be resanded because of the footprints! I was a little worried about the affect of the footprints but the floors look fantastic. Finally, there were some very, very small, things that needed attention after the job was finished and they came the next morning. Now that they are done, I will miss speaking with Arlene who is in their home office and is extraordinarily nice. I am planning to use them again for carpeting.

We contacted 3 companies on Angie's list with good records. One was twice the price and wanted an additional time and materials provision to handle unforseen conditions on the floor once the carpet was removed and the floor below visible. The third company was too busy to provide a timely estimate. We chose AG on gut instinct in discussions with Samuel Angel their estimator. We selected AG Floors before we got the other estimate---we suspected the other would be higher. We were of course concerned with work quality in searching for a vendor---especially since we went out of town for ten days starting the first day of the job. Since we were having the entire home done, we were not able to live in the home during that period---so it worked out well for us. In fact we asked AG to accommodate our travel schedule in doing the job--which they did. We selected 3 possible stains and on the day of arrival they sanded a part of one room quickly and applies all three stains for us to look at ---- it made final selection easy. There were some repairs required that we showed to the estimator----widened doorways that required floor extension, a doorway addition that required joining two room floors that previously were separate rooms, and a couple other items. Unknown to us and the estimator at the time were several other defects that needed correction: 1. a hole in the living room floor that required replacement boards, 2) a large 1 ft by six inch cutout in the family room floor corner (left over from some wall modifications earlier), and a missing baseboard section in a closet. The installers did 1 and 2 on their own without even contacting me, and made the repairs----perfect job. And the installers were happy to install a baseboard section that I supplied them. No price adjustment was requested for any of these items-- they just did it. Overall, the workers and work product exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend them for any similar work. We are not sure if the price was competitive, but the quality of the work done and cooperation of the company and workers convinced us we paid a reasonable price for the work performed. And the floors and stairs are absolutely beautiful----I could not have imagined how refinishing the floors could make such a difference----its like a new home!

My floors took a little longer than expected to complete...roughly about two days off. The stain looked nice, but the level of professionalism after the job was lacking. Because we wouldn't be able to walk on our floors we stayed somewhere else, and when I returned home my patio and back door were left unlocked. Not to mention that there was about thick coating of dust on everything. In the contract they state that their employees do no clean... and trust me they didn't. But it would have been nice if they attempted to eliminate some of the dust instead of leaving it all there. I guess the next I get my floors done I will go with someone who is professional and ties up all of the loose ends.

Mr. Angel was thorough and professional. There was a little scheduling glitch in that I was under the impression that the job would be completed in one day. A lady in the office called the day of installation to schedule part of the work for the next day due to other jobs, but I was leaving town. I expressed displeasure at this change in scheduling. Mr. Angel called back and agreed to complete the job in one day. The workers were there from 7am until 7pm, and the job was completed to my satisfaction, The workers were very professional and did a great job installing and also in cleaning the area thoroughly at completion. After completion, I notices two places where the wood slats placed near each other really stood out because they were too many shades apart. The men were able to remove the darker slats and replace with slats that looked much better. They were very good natured about taking the time to do the fix. All in all, this was a great experience, and I would highly recommend this company. I love my new floor!

Everything was great, but they got some stain on the baseboards, so we will need to touch them up. They did warn us in advance that it may happen. Price was better than anyone else we looked at.

I live in an old, turn-of-the-century row house that had old, scratched pine floors with a very dark stain. I decided to refinish these floors and came to Angie's List for recommendations. AG Floors had very good reviews, so I had an estimate (promptly) done by them and decided to proceed with the refinishing. The following week, workers came to my house to perform the refinishing. A coating was applied the same day, and another coat was applied the day after (during these 2 days, I needed to find some alternate accommodation, but it was worth it). I am now back in my house and the floors look great! Furthermore, there is little to no residual dust.

What everyone else says is true! This is an excellent company that does a great job with minimal drama. We were a bit skeptical because their quote was quite a bit lower than the other ones we received but the contract indicated they were using the same brand of wood and the methodology seemed the same. We are so happy with the result AND the very reasonable price. The only caution would be to understand that the guys who come to do the work are very good at installing floors but they are not designers - I stayed home to "help" and there were two issues that I am glad I caught before they moved ahead. Both were esthetic and would have been fine but I am glad that I was here at the time - one was the size of the threshold and the other was the use of small pieces in the area that is most visible (I asked them to use longer pieces there and use the small pieces where it would be covered by furniture and carpet). All in all, it was a great experience.

We couldn't be happier with the results. They were the lowest of the 3 estimates we received. They arrived on time, moved all of our furniture, and used plastic sheeting to block off the rest of our house. We left town during most of the work and returned to find our house in great shape and with beautifully refinished hardwood floors. Although we had been concerned that the entire house would be dusty from the sanding, there was no dust anywhere (not even on the drapes or blinds of the rooms that were refinished). This was a great job at a great price and I recommend them highly.

This is inevitably a messy, dusty, smelly project, but they did it as efficiently as anyone could. All contacts with the firm were efficient and professional. They gave me printed information about the process that was very helpful. The workmen were punctual and polite.

After another company I did not research Destroyed! my floors, twice, I looked up AG on Angie's List. They came over, showed me where all damage was done, then gave me a good price to redo my floor sanding and staining. My floors now look great. It was a simple and straightforward job, but after having a month of bad work done to my house and a lot of back and forth and now a small claim in the court system, I was happy to deal with a group that was reasonable, helpful, on-time, and left me with great floors. I would definitely call this company again if I needed any floor work done.

Was right on time for estimate, and did it on the spot. Job was done exactly as they described, on time and on schedule. They did an absolutely wonderful job beyond our expectations. Came back to fix tiny nail hole without any issue.

We didn't shop around, so can't really comment on the price. (We were short on time and this company got good reviews.) Job was estimated and completed in about 2 days' time. The work took about 1/2 a day. They did a great job. Showed up when they said and installed a very nice floor. We are very happy with it!

Service was top notch and people very professional. Would definitely use them again.

It was a positive experience from the moment I called to request an estimate. The woman who handled the scheduling and payments was able to answer all my questions about the process, and they were able to schedule us to start the job within just a few days. The crew arrived right on time and got straight to work, and the whole process was very smooth. Most of the discoloration in the wood came out during sanding, but they identified a couple places where we might want to consider replacing the planks. I appreciated that they were not pushy about it -- they just pointed it out and let us make a decision. They also did a pretty good job containing the dust and mess. I was prepared for our moldings to look a lot more banged up than they did. Our floors are from 1951 and their age shows in the slight variations in how the planks fit together. Refinishing can't change that! But this is something nobody would notice unless they were doing a detailed inspection. The beautiful new stain and polyurethane gives an excellent impression when you walk in the door. All in all, getting our floors refinished by AG was a great value.

They were great. They did a beautiful job on the floors, finished on time, and were a pleasure to work with. And their prices are very reasonable. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

The experience was pretty good overall. Their price was within line of other quotes I had gotten.

I got three bids, and theirs was the lowest. Everything went smoothly and as planned. They told me what was going to be done and there were no surprises. They used a non-water based finish, which my cleaning company told me was better, but there is an odor in the home for a couple of weeks afterwards. They did a good job overall!

They finished in just 2 day and it looks great.

UPDATE: Samual and one of his crews came back and installed the thresholds and walked the perimeter of the previously carpeted rooms to add putty. We agree that Samual eventaully did everything he could to satisfy us, however, he was not receptive to our complaints until after we typed up this review. However, I do recall that he was out of town for about a week and that might have had some impact on AGs response. Consequently, by the time Samual agreed to do the touch up, we had already moved in the house and could not deal with not being able to use our foyer and hallway for 24 hours. I bring this up, because had samuel agreed to do the touch up when we first contacted AG, there would be no issue, we would have happily accepted the touch up, and this review would probably be an B or A I have left my original review below unaltered I'm not very happy with this experience but do not know what to do. Despite my frustration with AG, I will try to be as fair as possible in this review, separating my frustration with the process of resurfacing floors itself (regardless of who does them), with my frustration with AG. Some important things to note upfront that add to my frustration: I received 4 quotes to get my floors refinished, and AG was the highest. I went with AG because of my confidence with what Samuel, the owner, told me during the appointment. For example, I pointed out some stained wood in the corner that had been wet, and some stains in the hallway and bedroom, and without any hesitation, Samuel told me, ?that will come out no problem?. While other companies stated things like, ?that may not come out?, or ?I?ll have to bleach that?, and ?I?ll probably have to remove all those boards? Needless to say, I based my decision on confidence and of course, Angieslist reviews. First, my issues with AG: 1) They left my electrical panel box and cover on the ground leaving 200 amp line exposed. They needed to get access to it for their machines. This is a pretty significant oversight especially considering the location of my electrical panel. Anyway, I mentioned this to AG and they apologized so I will get over it. Thank God I do not have kids yet. 2) There are fairly obvious and long undulations visible in the floor. It appears to me, they are a result of the drum sander. Worse yet, they are in very conspicuous areas like the main foyer and hallway. I did not expect a perfectly flat floor, but three of these undulations in particular are actually bad enough you can feel them with your bare feet.. What is frustrating to me, and of course I'm not an expert, but it does not seem like there is any reason for them to be in the middle of the hallway considering if the sander was simply taken down the length of the hallway in one consistent smooth motion, there would be no possible way for the wave to be where it is. It's as if the sander just decided to stop there, for what, I don?t know. Had the sander gone the length of the hallway, as I suggested, if there was a visible bump, it would be where it should be, against the baseboard where it would be harder to see. I asked AG about these bumps and the owner told me they were within tolerance and they were caused by the machine vibrating... As I said, I?m certainly no expert so forgive me if my common sense has gotten the better of me, but I used a belt sander in a wood working class, and it became apparent to me while using it on my wood clock in 7th grade that if I leave the belt sander in one place on the wood for too long, guess what, the wood would have a bump. 3) There are about a half dozen spots on the floor that look like they have little or no urethane on them. I'm not sure how this was overlooked but for what it?s worth, Samuel said to mark them with tape and he would come back and fix them. 4) They forgot to install two thresholds. Again, Samuel told me he will come back and install these at a later date. 5) AG did not fill any of the holes from the carpet strips that had been on top of them in the rooms that had carpet. Had I known they would not put putty in the holes, they could have told me, and I would have done it myself. This may be my fault for not asking, but I thought it was obvious, why have floors refinished only to have dark holes all along the perimeter? Here are my issues with refinishing floors not tied to AG that I think you should be aware of, and yes AG warned me about this with a long disclaimer. 1) The dust, dust, and more dust. My floors were refinished more than two weeks ago and my house is still full of dust. This fine wood dust gets everywhere and sticks to everything. Had I known what a mess sanding makes, I may have considered other options. The house was empty at the time, and I have since moved in, and there is still enough dust in the air to coat my furniture. The dust even coats the walls, you actually have to use a damp sponge to remove it, a vacuum alone will not do if you plan to paint as I do. 2) expect your walls to get dinged up. 3) expect to find all of your doors off the hinges and in the basement or garage. Conclusion I cannot recommend AG to anyone based on my experience. To be fair I will probably have a few floor pros come in and evaluate my issues. If they tell me it is a great job and no one could do better I will reconsider my review of AG and update it accordingly. I think that is fair. I have pictures, I wish angieslist had a place for me to upload them?

Fantastic experience. We had just bought the house & asked about having them do all the floors before we moved our stuff in. During the estimate, they actually talked us out of it -- saying that most of the floors looked like they were in good shape, and that we should ask the seller when they'd been refinished. We checked, & it had only been 18 months prior. Good sign that we could trust them. They did do the master bedroom for us though -- came out beautiful. We get compliments. Also, we asked for their help in repairing some holes in the stairs where the old bannister had been (we pulled out the bannister to put in a cable rail system). THey came up with a really simple, elegant solution -- using small strips of thresholding to cover the holes. Stained them to match the stairs, installed them, and we're happy.

They came to Alexandria all the way from Rockville, Maryland, over a period of 4 days, during rush-hour and were always punctual and polite.

They responded to my request by email the following day, set up the appointment to make an estimate, came right on time and offered a price that was much lower than another A rated Angie's list competitor. They came on time for the 3 days that were needed to complete the job and did a terrific job. i couldn't be happier!

AG refinished our floors with great professionalism. They were always on time and let us know the progress during the day. If something didn't look right, they sent us pictures right away. At the end, part of the floor did not look right, but the came the very next day and corrected the problem to our satisfaction without argument. They weren't the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Great quality work, great service. I would definitely hire AG again!

Update: Well since this review I have had my floors dome by AG Flooring and I will say that the crew was great! They were able to answer all of my questions and were very friendly. We even bought them dinner for all of their hardwork! One thing they did do was communicate in Spanish on the phone when checking on a question (financial qurstion) I had (other peroson on the line spoke perfect English as I had already spoken to her) which I didnt like too much as I didnt konw what they were saying and thought that was kinda rude since they speak English just fine. Their excuse for the lack of any communication was that everyone called out that day and the owner was out as well. They said they have had a busy couple of days. I understand that however better measures need to be put in place so the office can continue to run effectively. Again they were supposed to call me this morning at 7:30 to tell me when the crew would arrive and they didnt and I had to call them at 8:30. So communication is still a serious issue with AG Flooring. They do a great job it seems that it is their office organization that is the real issue! So kudos for the work crew! Would I use them again? Now that I know how they operate and know that I need to stay on top of them...maybe. They do do a great job and thats what counts! But for someone who cant commit to staying on top of them and lean of them doing what they tell you then you may be sorely disappointed and frustrated! Well I would love to tell you how beautiful my floors look excpet that they have never showed up as of yet and they took a 400.00 deposit and cashed it already. On the Fri before (Sept. 15th) I had called to ensure that we were on the schedule for Mon. Morn and sure enough they said yes. They said they would call me Sat. with the time. Well Saturday came and went with no phone call. Now I sit at 12:30 PM Mon. waiting for them to arrive after calling the office every 15 since 8am with not a single answer of the phone. Left several messages and called the Owner Samuel's cell and left several messages for him including a text message. His phone wasnt even turned on. So as it sits now, they may never come. In the event that they actually show up and do the work intended I will be willing to re-review their quality but as far as communication, timeliness,and professionalism goes my response will not change. In general I am a very patient and undersanding person however when not a single soul has picked up a phone when I called several times and they act like they have fallen off the face of the Earth after they cashed my deposit and my husband has taken the entire day off of work to meet them my patience is lost even though its only 12:30!
