AG Floors were fantastic. They had the lowest estimate but during the estimate meeting left me feeling they knew exactly what they were doing and would provide finishing details. A few extra details I added on were a minimal extra cost. The workers were efficient, polite, and did a great job on the floors. The boards they replaced, which another company seemed doubtful could be done very well, was done very quickly and you can only see the new ones if you are really looking for them.

It started well, but ended not well. We asked them to refinish f.oors on 3 levels before we moved into house we must bought. They did a good job sanding and staining but not the final refinishing stage. We had them back out to fix the varnish job which left lots of pebbles/bubbles in the floor. They did come back and fix the varnish but then they didn't put enough coats on and after just 3 months we are already getting wear spots. Looks good but will not wear well and i fear we will have to have floors redone in a few years. We have had them out to assesss but they have generally been not very responsive. Would not recommend.

The workers were on time and very polite. They placed plastic sheets to isolate the other rooms from dust. The first process was to remove the carpet. They work hard, took a short lunch break. The objective was to sand the floors and then apply a sealant. I believe they left around 7PM. They returned the next day (Saturday) to apply the finish. They were done around 5PM. I asked that they not install the shoe molding so that we might paint the baseboard where the carpet left marks. It is important to factor the effect that removing carpet has on your trim. AG cut the shoe molding and scheduled a return visit at our convenience. There was an extra charge for sending out the crew but this is, in my opinion, fair. Just consider this when you are getting the initial quote. The crew was very helpful in other ways. They assisted us with a few things were not floor related. Note that I did not rate the price because I did not shop the job. I was very impressed during the estimating process and just went with AG. My experience suggests that the price was fair, especially considering the way the job was handled and the way we were treated. I'm sure I could have paid less, but that isn't the point.
Description of Work: The carpet was removed from stairs, the upstairs hallway and two bedrooms. The floors were refinished including sanding. Shoe molding was added to the baseboards.

AG Floors did a FANTASTIC job of blending the refinishing work into the previously refinished flooring area. They went the extra mile to make sure that there were no seams between areas that were done. When looking at the floors, you would never know that they were refinished 7 years apart. One broken floorboard was replaced at a minimal cost. Be prepared for disruption during the refinishing process as you cannot access that area for a good number of days. Our project took 3 days for them to finish, and we waited an additional two days to put the furniture back. These guys are very conscientious about doing a good job. Be prepared for a strong smell for about a week. We camped out in our downstairs family room for those days when the work was done and after. We probably should have slept elsewhere, because of the poly odor.
Description of Work: We had three bedroom floors refinished, to match and blend the refinished floors in the living room, dining room, and hall. The main area was done by AG Floors 7 years ago. We agreed to remove all furniture, carpeting and tacks from the bedrooms to prep for the refinishing work. AG Floors sanded and applied 3 coats of poly to our bedroom floors.

The crew was very professional and very careful with our furnishings. I think the floors look better than they did when we moved in 20 years ago.
Description of Work: Excellent work and very professional. They looked at our floors and gave an immediate estimate, provided us with detailed information on how the process would work and how we should prepare, arrived on time and finished on time. They refinished our floors, and it looks like we bought a new house! This is my first review on Angie's List (and I will get better about that), but this was such an important project that was done so well that I wanted to post a review as soon as I could.

It went well overall, considering we had to change from hardwood refinishing to carpet, and certainly that was no fault of AG Floors.
Description of Work: At first we had AG Floors over to estimate the cost of refinishing floors that were under carpet. They came and pulled the old carpet up only to find that the hardwood floors under the old carpet were in bad shape. We decided to carpet the entire area. The estimator literally showed up within an hour/hour and a half with samples. We selected the carpet and scheduled installation contingent upon the carpet being at the warehouse. We learned the next day it would be a few days before delivery of the padding would arrive, so it was a week before they could install the padding and carpet. But, when they did install it, they were on time, pleasant and did a good job.

The job was completed quickly and efficiently. I was given an estimate and able to quickly schedule job. I had 3 estimates and Samuel was by far the least expensive. Edwin and David arrived on time and worked a long day. They helped move furniture and covered all doors with plastic. They were very courteous and informative. It took 3 days to complete the job. They did excellent work. Arlene followed up with scheduling and answered questions. We are very happy with the job.

Everyone arrived on time at each stage of the process, and there were no delays due to coordination or communication problems. The house has approximately 2000 square feet of floor, which was all older hardwood except for the kitchen. We asked to have the kitchen floor replaced with hardwood to match the rest of the house. They helped us select a stain that we liked that would improve the appearance of some worn areas. After applying the stain, they determined that the stair risers with their old color would not look good with the new stain. Even though refinishing the stair risers was outside the agreed scope of work, they offered to refinish the risers to match. The quality of the work is excellent. They were able to get an even level of color over the entire floor, even to the point of concealing areas where minor repairs were made.
Description of Work: We had the laminate floor in the kitchen replaced with hardwood, then all hardwood floors in the house refinished, stained, and sealed.

This company's fair price and friendly estimator were followed up by a crew of 'workers' who spoke little English and were largely unskilled. The first sign of trouble was when the crew unloaded the materials and unceremoniously dropped boxes of new flooring from waist height onto a concrete floor. It was not accidental. They did it with each of four boxes. My wife heard the noise and asked if the floor would be damaged by the impact. The workers just shrugged and walked back to the truck to get tools. When putting down wood floors you want to have workers who know their craft, in other words; craftsmen. Having just 'workers' results in the sort of installation we received. The crew improperly cut trim so some of the exposed trim edges on a highly visible closet door was just shy of 1/2" above the finished floor!!!! Most of the others were cut closer but others had 1/4" gaps. Making proper trim cuts is easy with minimal training, proper tools and a little care. I feel this installation crew was short on all three of those. Another key to proper floor installation is staggering flooring joints and alternating long and short boards. This crew botched that in several areas and in one case put 8 joints in a diagonal row with most being less than 3" apart and half being short boards about 1' in length. That part of the floor is outside a bathroom door and has more flex and noise than other better installed sections. In several obvious / high traffic / highly visible places the crew installed boards that had been damaged. I am betting the chips broken out of the edges were the result of mishandling. Now we have several spots that are ~1/8" wide and ~1" long deep black holes. The wholes were originally hidden by filler material. They were so deep the filler material fell into the hole and disappeared after a couple weeks. Sadly, more than enough uncut / unused material was left over to have replaced all the damaged boards 20 times over. While the crew focused on speed, the quality suffered. The boards were not very tightly laid and there are visible gaps between most boards. They used finish nails through the face of the flooring to hold down the last three full rows. Craftsman would do that with one or at most two rows. To top it all off, the 1/4 round moulding used was low grade and had a coarse finished. They did not sand it and all it got was a quick wipe of a single light coat of rag applied finish. Needless to say it does not match the floor and most of it will catch your socks if you were to rub them along it. To summarize: Pleasant y office staff but a dreadful installation crew - I do NOT recommend them.
Description of Work: Two rooms of Bruce pre-finished oak hardwood floor were installed - totaling more than 400 sq ft. Perimeter was finished with 1/4 round oak trim.

All went well. had to "camp" down in the basement for three days before we could use the upstairs due to the floors and steps being done!!! The two guys with AG Floors came on time and they did their work for two days!!!
Description of Work: This company accepted a cash deal with us, thus we saved some more money paying cash than by credit card. They did a BEAUTIFUL job refinishing our wood floors in the dining/living rooms and steps . They even came back the next month to do some touch-ups which we appreciated!!! We RECOMMEND this company to hardwood floor owners!! We've pictures of how our floors looked before and after the work was done!!! I don't know how I can post the pictures on this website!

The folks at AG Floors are completely professional from start to finish. Their estimate was not the least expensive I received, but I felt confident they would do the best job from the interactions I had with each person I dealt with. The installers were some of the hardest working guys I've dealt with as I get my home ready to sell. They worked well into the evenings every day they were on site in order to finish the job in the timeframe I needed it done. They didn't skimp or do anything sloppy, and they were courteous and gave me suggestions when I had to make decisions on some of the finishes. I am extremely pleased with their work and when I asked them to come back to make a couple of small changes, they were wonderful about it and had their team on site within a couple of days. I've had my floors refinished at several homes I've owned and have done it 3 times since owning this home, and hands down, these guys did the finest job. I highly recommend them.

First off, I've used AG Floors over a year ago and had a wonderful experience in refinishing the master bedroom floor of our century old row how on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. It was a complex job requiring replacement of wood which had suffered water damage over the years. They did an excellent job then. However this job was clearly not up to their previous high standard. 1) A lack of understanding of the scope of work was severely hampered by the fact the English is not the primary language of the either the estimator or the crew doing the actual work. This led to a misunderstanding of the design and installation of a new 50 sq foot floor and it required the crew to do the job over. Other language barrier related problems are detailed below. Writing down or drawing the design (a chevron of 3" wood strips) on the contract would have avoided this misunderstanding, and saved 1/2 day of work. 2. When it came time to stain the wood, we needed to stain two different woods; the old floor and the new wood floor. We were presented with two stain options: a) continue with one blond oak stain over all; or, b) the blond shade over the old wood and a darker redder shade on the new floor. 3. We selected the redder for the lightly colored new wood, but when it was applied it was simply too different from the old floor. I told them to that we needed to remove this and find a better matched stain. I went to my basement for samples. I was called by AJ and told it would cost me an additional $210 to sand off the new stain and apply another. I agreed. 4. All of a sudden two additional stains appeared from the AJ crew (for a total now of 4 options!), one of which was satisfactory. Why weren't all these options provided the first time? I was ready to go to my local hardware store to find a stain! 5. The stain was applied, it was acceptable, and the floors were sealed. 6. The third day the AJ crew came in with a shoe molding completely different then that which was originally there and had been removed by AJ. They said that's all they had on their truck, or in stock. My wife (and I) were too fed up by this time and had them install it. 7. The ultimate insult was the AJ crew's breaking of my bent wood floor riser at the base of my stairs on the first floor. I cannot prove their guilt in a court of law, but they were bringing and removing all manner of materials and equipment (sanders, tools, vacuum cleaner, etc). I can only surmise that they did this and were too unprofessional to admit their mistake. 8. Lesson learned. This company now needs to be monitored closed from start to finish to ensure the work is done correctly.
Description of Work: 1. Remove existing carpeting (150 sq ft). 2. Build a new 50 sq foot wood floor joined to the original bedroom floor in an extension of the room. 3. Sand and refinish an existing antique !00+ yr old red pinewood floor (100+ sq ft). 4. Stain sanded and new floors. 5. Seal floors with polyurethane.

They performed the entire job in one day. In the kitchen they discovered an extra layer of plywood under the vinyl tile. They suggested they remove that also so that the wood could be installed under the refrigerator and it would still fit under the cabinet. This caused extra work for them, but they wanted the job to be done correctly. They cleaned up after themselves nicely, taking the time to cut up little pieces of carpet to put under the furniture so the floor would be protected. We felt that they treated our home as if it were their own.

the shoe molding, which was included in the price. We had a really large shoe molding on the baseboards that was removed and replaced by AG. The size they replaced it with was smaller than the original moldings and left a weird line on the baseboards. We knew that they were going to have to be touched up, as AG told us when they gave us the estimate, but weren't prepared to do all the sanding that would be necessary now to make them even. It would have been difficult for our painters to do since the moldings were already nailed in so we just painted the baseboards anyway and are going to live with the imperfection. They look ok but not great. The refinished floors and stain do really look fantastic though so I would use them again with maybe some more clarification on that issue. I was also disappointed that when we called to complain they weren't willing to work with us at all. Jumbo molding as stated in the contract wasn't really what was installed in my opinion.
Description of Work: We moved into a townhome and had AG come and give us an estimate prior to closing and start refinishing the floors the day after we officially owned the home. I thought the price was more than reasonable and I really think that the final product looks very good. However we did have a bit of a communication issue when it came to

We contacted four companies. AG Floors was the only company that provide a professional looking estimate. The others were written on business cards, if we got one. This is was what swayed our decision. They were on time for the estimate. We set up a day to have the refinishing done. They said it would take three days. The first day they were on time and were pleasant, professional, and polite. They let us look at the work before they put the final finish on and answered our questions. They told us they would be done the next day. A day early! The office contacted me during the first day to approve additions and when they would be arriving the next day. They were supposed to show up between one and two the next day. At 2:15 I called the office to see where they where and was told they would be there in 35 minutes and they were. When I asked when they would be done they said 7:00 and they were. While the men were packing up, I was able to peek at the floors and they are gorgeous! I wish I could put before and after pictures. My floors' finish was gone and the carpet that was ripped out was placed down with tar. You can't even tell. I feel like I have moved to a new house. We still have to get the bedroom floors refinished. When we are ready for that, this company will be my only call!

Sam came out for the estimate, and was involved in the transaction from start to finish-- he was an absolute pleasure to work with, and put the extra mile into customer service, including offering to drive us (myself and my then very pregnant wife) back to the metro on an unseasonably hot day. We had just purchased an approximately 95 year old rowhouse, in which we wanted to have all hardwoods-- the house already had stunning original parquet floors downstairs in the foyer, living room and dining room-- the rest of the house being a hodgepodge of very old, very gross carpeting. We had already pulled up our carpet upstairs, and found an (unfortunate, 60s era) faux parquet underneath our similarly unfortunate carpeting, and had pulled it up in the downstairs sunroom revealing nothing but subfloor. We had intended to put in new floors both in the sunroom and upstairs, but it was Sam who discovered the additional layer of older, original flooring under the upstairs floor. Being able to maintain some more of the original details of the house as well as saving a pile of money on all new flooring upstairs was a tremendous benefit to us as new, first-time homeowners and a couple expecting a baby! The work was done over a period of a few days by a very courteous and friendly crew, with Sam checking in here and there when issues were identified, such as a plywood (!) patch of some flooring in one of the upstairs bedrooms which had been made who-knows-how-long-ago in some sort of calamity. [They reinforced and refinished that as best as they could to match the rest of the pine, which was very creative of them] The quality of the work was overall very very good. The new flooring in the upstairs and downstairs sunrooms looks great, and we love the look of the original old pine upstairs. We did notice that the little wood borders where the floor meets the wall were not uniformly well installed (perfectly where there was new floor-- where there was old flooring, they put some new ones in, but not everywhere), and it wasn't till weeks later that we noticed a boot print memorialized on our own bedroom floor-- it must have been while they were finishing those floors. Hence I only very very reluctantly drop the quality score to B, but we had not even noticed these things for weeks, and given the incredible value and total excellent customer experience, they are As across the board otherwise, and I look forward to using them again when we eventually re-do the lower level of our house!
Description of Work: Putting in new oak flooring in two approximately sunrooms (approximately 8x10 and 10x12 respectively), ripping out old vinyl flooring, padding, some carpet remnants in three upstairs bedrooms, the hallway connecting all of them, refinishing 95 year old pine floors underneath, as well as pulling up the carpet in our interior staircase and polishing the wood under that.

I chose this company because of all of the great reviews. Not sure what happened here but they fell profoundly short of my expectations. They quoted me a time, showed up late, and then told me it could not be done in one day as they had told me it would be, then rushed to complete it in one day, even though I finally made arrangements to be home the next day so they wouldn't rush and do sloppy work. They came with the wrong moulding and told me that Lowes did not carry the moulding they promised me. I called Lowes, they did have the right moulding. The floorers came back later to install. The cut work is sloppy. They cut a door jam so far that it looks like they are floating above floor. There were 5mm-1cm gaps between walls and flooring which they told me could not be helped but never warned me that it could happen. It looks terrible. They did come back to try to improve the look with wood filler, but 6 months later, the wood filler has fallen out ( as they warned me it would) and it looks even worse. The floorers got dark stain on my white walls and moulding throughout an, as well as left dirty handprints on the walls and doors. I had to repaint to cover. They did not re-hang the closet doors properly and they ended up scratching the floor when I tried to close them. One more item, they told me that I was purchasing the hardest flooring and that it would not scratch significantly with daily use. If I slide a plastic storage bin or barstools, or anything else, it leaves substantial scratches in the wood. I know that there are limitations and complications when replacing old flooring, but these issues cannot all be contributed to this. The worksmanship looks like a budget job, what I might expect from Home Depot. To the credit of the Manager Angel and his office staff, they did respond promptly to my concerns, however despite their efforts (which I did appreciate) overall it was a poor experience that I am reminded daily of by my floors.

Excellent! We've received many compliments on the floor and haven't noticed any issues. They even managed to remove some (I'm assuming here) dog pee stains left by the previous owners. A little bit about the situation -- we had just purchased the home and had the work done prior to moving in, so there was no need to move furniture, boxes, etc. The work took about 3 days, and they recommended limited traffic and no boxes, heavy furniture, etc, on the floors for about a week to allow the stain to set in properly. Overall I am very impressed, and glad this was the first thing we did after moving in.
Description of Work: AG Floors fixed a number of damaged hardwood floor boards, removed the old trim, sanded our floors, added matching hardwood material to some hard to reach locations, added/stained matching quarter-round trim to each room with hardwood floors, stained the floors in the color of our choosing, and provided a "care guide" detailing the types of products to use on the floor and the recommended frequency of sweeping and mopping to maintain the quality.

Nothing to complain about. They were a pleasure to work with. I felt safe with them here (always a concern) and wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: AG floors came and cleaned, refinished and sealed my wood floors. I have waxed wood and not polyurethane floors. I have a very open floor plan and dust was a big concern. The job was done quickly, meticulously and without a lot of dust.

From scheduling an estimate through to the end of our project, everyone with AG floors was helpful and knowledgable. Mr. Angel came to out home, and explained each aspect of the process and handed us an estimate on the spot. Our project was fairly straight-forward, but did require minor repairs and a good amount of sanding. The men who came to complete our project were on-time and professional. They did an above average job keeping things clean. Overall, considering the very reasonable price we paid, we coudn't ask for much more. We got what we paid for.
