AG Floors

We had this work done while we were away on holiday. We are very happy with the results and there was very little dust in non-treated rooms. We got other quotes and AG was among the best. Angie's List recommendations helped us to choose between them and the company was very keen to make sure we were pleased with all aspects of the work.

Truly outstanding job, guys. AG Floors performed the work while I was out of town. In fact they worked on Labor Day. I had a couple email exchanges with them to describe what I wanted and voila I returned from my trip to find perfectly refinished floors gleaming upon my arrival. Couldn't have been easier, and results exceeded all my expectations.

Looks terrific. Quality workmanship. A few soiled hand prints on the doors, but they cleaned up easily and are to be expected when doors must be removed to do the job correctly. Very little hardwood left over; they know what they're doing. Estimator and office administrator very responsive, craftsmen were experienced and did very good work.

I am VERY pleased with the service provided by AG floors. They were a pleasure to deal with, their work product was excellent, and it was well priced. We chose them among three bids based on price but also on our impressions of the estimator. We had a tight schedule, which they fit into and then were unexpectedly helpful when we asked if we could postpone it by 5 days shortly before the work was to begin. Although the vast majority of the task was completed beautifully, there was one area of shoe molding (under two air registers) that I thought had not been handled optimally. They came back quickly and redid that area perfectly. I would certainly use them again and recommend to friends.

I called AG Floors earlier this week to set up a walkthrough for an estimate. The lady on the phone insisted that it be between 8am-3pm. Thinking that I could jump on the metro, bus, then walk home to catch a walkthrough at my place during lunch and make it back in time for work was a little overzealous on my part. So, I called this morning to say that I don't work from home and it would have to be after 3pm any day of the week or Saturday after 2pm (I work 6 days a week). They told me that would not work, it's outside of their consult times. So, unfortunately I had to tell them I will have to take my business elsewhere and they were okay with that. I'm not aggravated or appalled that my business isn't worth sitting in a little traffic for this company. I looked forward to giving a big job to a well-reviewed local business, but I guess the market is good enough to shrug off potential capital and quickly accept a customer say "I guess I'll find another business who can make it to a walkthrough after 3pm..." To be fair, I don't know anyone would can take off work for (multiple) estimates. However, once the job has been accepted it is appropriate to flex my hours to be home when the work is performed. This review might be helpful for someone who also works during normal business hours.

AG sanded the really old and trashed hardwood floors and refinished them, then installed shoe molding which the house did not previously have. The job took the amount of time predicted, and the final results are fantastic. As a single woman, I wasn't able to fully move the bed and draperies prior to their arrival, but they were fast and professional with doing that. They kept the dust contained and cleaned up afterwards. My only complaints are that they re-hung one set of drapes backwards (it's a bar that's screwed into the wall so it's not trivial to take down and fix) and only remounted a couple of the smoke detectors. Also, I wasn't prepared for how bad the fumes would be, so a warning that I should plan to not be in the house for a couple days would have been good for newbies like me. They made some extra effort with the shoe molding however; in two places curved molding was required and they were able to obtain and install it, as well as fitting the molding to account for the house's settling.

We wanted to get the floors and stairs in our 1923 DC rowhouse refinished before moving in. The man who did the estimate (Samuel?) was punctual, courteous and answered all of my questions. The estimate was significantly lower than other companies, so we scheduled AG Floors to do the work. We explained that we were renting the house to the previous owners and that we might need to push back the date, but AG said they were flexible. On the scheduled day, the two men from AG Floors arrived exactly on time. Jorge was professional and patient while we took our time deciding on the best of 3 stains. Evelin called each day before the work was to be done and informed me what time they would arrive. There was a delay because the stain wasn't dry, but Evelin was wonderful about contacting us and keeping us in the loop. At one point I called her because I was concerned that the floors needed a second coat of stain, so she contacted the workers and told me exactly what time to go look at the work to make sure it was what I wanted. Throughout the process, AG Floors was great about touching base and I trusted them with the key to our new house. The work took 3 days as expected and and the floors look amazing. I will recommend this company to anyone who needs this kind of work done.

a AG floors did an excellent job for a very competitive price. The salesperson who met me at my condo was punctual, very professional, and knew a lot about hardwood floor repair and refinishing. The price they gave me was very reasonable, and they were able to complete the job within a few days of my signing the contract. They were flexible and able to work through some logistical hurdles (I went into labor the day before they started, but left them a key and had my mom meet them). The results are spectacular --they did a stellar job, and the floorboards they replaced mesh seamlessly with the pre-existing floors. I highly recommend working with this company and would gladly do so again.

We had an appointment for 8:30am; I stayed home from work for it. To their credit, they did call: at exactly 8:30am, to say they'd be 30min late. If we'd already been in a relationship I would have waited for them, but I am not going to hire somebody who is late for even the estimate. You may have to work with these people more than you ought to.

Very responsive and professional. They did an excellent job and we did not have any problems.

Samuel arrived promptly as scheduled, was extremely professional and took the time to explain how refinishing is done and the options available for staining and finish (oil based, water based, etc.). He was thorough, conscientious, and followed-up by sending an estimate via email the same afternoon. We were impressed with AG from our initial experience scheduling through the estimate process and look forward to having AG refinish our floors when we schedule the work later this fall.

I wanted my hardwood floors refinished. I obtained 3 estimates. Out of the three, AG floors gave me the best estimate for the job. They gave me information on what I had to do before and after the floors. When I had questions I called the office and they were very friendly and professional as well. The day of my appointment to start with my floors, they were on time, came in and moved my heavy furniture. Prepared the areas with appropriate covers. They did and outstanding job in preparing all areas for refinishing. The workers were professional, personable and knew how to get the job done in a knowledgeable way. When the floors were finished they came back and placed my furniture back. They did a fantastic job! I am pleased with the price and the job well done. AG Floors comes highly recommended by me.

I purchased the flooring from Lumber Liquidators (Hand scraped hard wood) and searched Angie's List for an installer. After interviewing a few of the contractors, I chose AG Floors. The gave me a date to install but actually came a few days early. I was pleased with that. As recommended, we had the flooring and underlayment (padding) sit in the house for 2 weeks before the install. Once of my biggest concerns was that they secure the subfloor because it was very squeaky. I even made sure this was on the contract. From what I saw, they did secure the subfloor. However, as soon as I turned the air conditioner on the hard wood floors started squeaking horribly. The guys took 3 days to install the floor with time off in between. I had to call Sam out because there were several places that they didn't stain and more that they didn't cover the nails. This was fixed. I had to call Sam again about the squeaking but when he came out I had the air conditioner off. He sent someone out to fix the floors but when he came....he only inspected the job and said he couldn't do anything that day because the hardware stores where he needed to get the special nails was closed because it was Saturday???? Seriously??? Even more than that, I had to talk to him about how he was going to fixed the boards because I wanted it done correctly. We set a date for him to come back and fix the floors but when he came he said he couldn't do anything because it was raining. Oh, and he was late. He is supposed to be here today...2 hours ago to fix the floors but....not here yet. I originally was referring AG Floors to everyone and even posted my satisfaction on Facebook. Since then, I have told everyone to hold off on using them until I see the actual final results. Sad, because I really thought they were going to do a good job and this all would be behind me. Also, when they were installing floors, they broke my marble threshold to the bathroom so I had to remove 3 of the ceramic tiles and the marble transition piece and relay it all. AG Floors did credit me the cost for doing that. More to follow when the floors finally get fixed.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work that AG Floors did at my home. Their professionalism, craftsmanship, and honesty was beyond reproach. I had four quotes for this job and they completed the work in three days for the agreed price. As I have a long commute to work, and live alone, it was inconvenient for me to be at home to oversee the work the entire time. I was there with them for the first day but allowed them to let themselves in and out of my house for the last two days. No issues arose. They expertly laid the oak strip flooring in the living/dining area. All of the joints are tight, the strips are randomized so that there are no discernible patterns, and there are no creaks. Prior to sanding the floors they blocked off the doorways to adjoining rooms and covered the built-in book shelves in the study with plastic. Sanding dust in the rest of the house was almost non-existent. They precisely matched the color of the new hardwood floors to that of previously installed oak stair treads nearby. And the Bona Traffic finish is simply beautiful. In a nutshell, I put the hardwood bundles in the living/dining area a couple of weeks before the scheduled start of work. AG Floors called a couple of days in advance to confirm. I moved the furniture out of the work areas early on the morning that work was to begin. The crew arrived as expected. I went over the work to be done with them. The two man crew completed the installation of the new flooring and repair of existing flooring on that day. The second day I left for work before the crew arrived and returned home late that evening to find that the floors had been sanded and stained. The wood grain is absolutely clear everywhere on the floor. There are no stray whirl marks, scuffs, gouges or anything of that nature. The color of the stain is uniform and free of any blotches that I could find. Similar drill on the third day. I left for work before the crew arrived and returned in the early evening to find that they had finished the work and the floors looked superb. No surprises at all.

They did a good job!! They came to my house on time, doing their work very fine and very hard. They promised me to finish installation in two days. On the first day, they told me they may need an another day to finish, but if I let them work until 9 or 10 pm, they could finish it for two days. I couldn't let them work that late cause mine is townhouse, but I was impressed their attitude. Moreover, they actually finished the job in two days. Quality-wise, I also am very satisfied with their work.

AG Floors did an absolutely magnificent job! My floors were really worn, and in some places damaged prior to refinishing. After refinishing, the floors look brand new! Special kudos go to Samuel, the estimator, and Jorge and his assistant who performed the refinishing. They were prompt, professional and hard working. I especially appreciate the attention to detail, such as preparing several stain samples for me to choose from, and taking care to seal rooms from dust penetration. AG Floors is a real winner!

I was incredibly impressed with the service, quality, and professionalism demonstrated by the team at AG Floors. My husband and I were going back and forth about whether to refinish the floors in an old house (built in 1923) that we purchased, and we're so glad we made the decision to do it before we moved in and to go with AG Floors! Scheduling was a breeze, and they were able to expedite the scheduling process so that the work could be completed before we moved in, which was wonderful. The team arrived on time each day and finished the final coat of poly on the fourth day as promised. On the first day they even sanded a large area in the living room and stained sections of the floor with the four stain colors I was considering, which made it much easier to choose. They called to check-in during the process and to make us aware that there were still some stains even after the sanding and recommended that we come out and take a look to determine if we'd like to replace the boards at a cost of $15 per board. Upon inspection, we decided that the stain was dark enough to mask most of the stains, plus we thought it added a bit of "vintage" character. I was happy that they stopped to get our opinion before proceeding, rather than just replacing the boards and charging us or just leaving the stains with no heads up. We didn't have shoe molding installed because we already had white baseboards/molding, so we did need to touch up the paint still since it was stained in some places and we also had to clean some dust off of fans, window sills, etc. We were informed that we would need to do these types of touch ups and cleaning, so again, it was nice to know what to expect. We would highly recommend AG Floors! Our floors look beautiful.

Excellent work. The team was a pair of exceptional workers with meticulous attention to detail. This is the second time I have used AG Floors ? I had them re-finish floors at a different house about four years ago. I?m a return customer, and I would highly recommend them. Cost was about $4,000; I believe this is competitive with other companies in the area. The price may seem high as a $ per sq ft because there were a lot of stairs and detail work as well as some floor replacement in one of the bedrooms.

So-so. The crew showed up on time. They took up carpet and removed it from the site. It was a small job, only about 500 sf, but it took them a day and a half to complete as there was a lot of furniture to move around and the installers didn't understand that I live in a condo that does not allow contractors after 5 pm After they left, I noticed that a lot of glue was left on the flooring. I received a thank you letter from them telling me what products to use on the floor. So far, none of them have removed the glue. I was also a little disappointed in the quality of the materials. For the price I paid, I did think I would get top of the line materials. However, the wood that was put down was more builder quality and the thinnest pieces of wood I have ever seen--almost veneer thickness.

We called for an estimate and quickly decided to have AG Floors refinish our floor. Very professional and explained the whole process thoroughly. The came on time, in fact early, and finished faster than originally contracted. Very little dust in the house, closed off room with heavy plastic and we moved all the items from kitchen counter and all handing items. The floor now is lighter, cleaner, smoother. Great job.

Friendly, Professional work at a great price. We are very happy with the work. I bid this project to three different companies and AG had the best price. Work was done in three days in a large house. They even came back for touch ups to make it perfect. We had 8 damaged boards which was replaced at $15 a board. Love how my floors look. Thank you

One of the workmen was arraigned on Friday for stealing my jewelry and pawning it. The work was good, the leader of the crew was personable, and when I told them that they'd damaged the adjacent floor when removing and replacing the threshold they came back and made it right. But they failed in not properly vetting and supervising their workers. Rather than use the downstairs bath adjacent to the kitchen, this worker was allowed to wander upstairs to use the master bath inside my bedroom, and browse through my jewelry box to weed out the valuables. I didn't notice the jewelry was missing until the police called to tell me it was in a pawn shop (it was engraved). I could tell one of the workers had used the master bath and was very uncomfortable, but this was on the last day so I didn't challenge them. The police asked me not to discuss the issue with Ag or anyone else until after the investigation, arrest and arraignment.

Great job. From the very professional and quick estimate to the finished product, this was a great experience. I found other companies that could have gotten the job done a little sooner ( I was on a tight time frame), but I am SO glad I went with AG Floors. The floors look like they JUST installed them! And they were originally installed in 1955! The whole floor looks fantastic. Even the little details were paid attention. I had removed a piece of baseboard when resizing a wall. I hadn't remembered to re-attach the piece before they came. They cut a piece of shoe moulding to the exact length I will need and gave it two coats of polyurethane to match all of the other moulding! I didn't have to ask them to do it, they just did. Because it was the right thing to do! A+ for the crew that did our job.

AG Floors had done a walk-in closet for me previously with superb results. When it was time to refinish floors in a rental property we own, I did not call anyone else. Their estimate was timely and reasonable. They were able to schedule me in a short period of time and the process was very smooth. They sanded down all floors, replaced damaged boards and worked with me to find a suitable molding (and work-around!) to cover large gaps between the floor and baseboard due to settling of the house. They were excellent at communicating issues as they found them and asked me for my preferences on solving problems versus doing something I may not have wanted. I referred them to a neighbor and heard the same rave reviews.

AG was very professional and punctual giving their estimate, scheduling the cleaning and advising on the replacement of a few parquet files that needed replacement. They came on time and finished on time, and left the place clean. The walls had been painted a few days before and there was no damage or overlap. Before replacing the parquet files, I got a call to check and a written mail asked for my approval.
