AG Floors

AG Floors were one of several of Angie's list top flooring companies that I got estimates from. Their estimate was very competitive and I went with them in the end because my sister has used them, Sam was great at explaining the options, and they agreed to not charge me for moving my furniture. (I had just moved so everything was boxed up, but it was still a lot of moving!). The first half of the work was to sand and refinish the existing hardwood with 3 coats of oil-based poly finish. They moved everything out, sanded a patch and put down a few stain samples, and then got to work. They taped up--as much as possible--sheets to keep down the dust. When I came back, everything looked great. As soon as those floors were dry, the moved everything from the other part of the house onto the newly finished wood and began phase two. Phase two was to rip out parkay tiles and carpet in 3 bedrooms and a hallway and put down new hardwood and stain the floors. Those floors also look very good. The positives: -all of the staff did a great job. Evelin at the office was good at communicating with me. The teams showed up on time each day (as far as I know since i was out of the house!), and the work was completed as communicated to me. -the estimate was accurate, the team was able to quickly start up, did a great job with the crown molding, helping put furniture back, etc. -overall I would recommend AG Floors The "negatives" or "could be better": -there were a few communication issues between us. I asked to be present when the furniture was moved from one section to another but when I arrived at the house, it had all already been moved. As a result, I had to stay at my sister's house for an extra week+. As I hadn't anticipated that, I had limited clothes etc and because the "great wall of furniture" had already been created, I had no access to anything. -when moving my things, the guys weren't exceptionally careful. I have some paint dings (and the walls were newly painted), and some boxes marked fragile were on the bottom of a stack. Most concerning, some heavy boxes were stacked on a piece of furniture I brought home from Africa, and it's now damaged. I've noticed a few other scratches. They guys did, to their credit, help me fix my dresser --but to the best of my knowledge, it wasn't broken before the moved it, so.... -the bathroom was absolutely filthy (sink, toilet and tub) when I got home. Obviously I don't begrudge them use of the facilities, but a swipe with a sponge would have been nice -the new floors were stained with the same color, but NOT stained to match the existing hardwood....so there's a slight difference. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but for $5k, I would have hoped for a bit more. -when I communicated these concerns to the office I got a nice reply thanking me for my comments and letting me know that the balanced had been charged to my card. A little something would have gone a long way. Generally, I would recommend AG Floors. But make sure you're there when/ if they're moving furniture and keep a close eye.

They were easy to work with, on-time and professional, and our floors look great. They finished when they said they would and over four months later, the floors look great.

These guys are real pros...did a great job. I have used them before and will use again. They also did some patching to the hardwood floors, and it matches perfectly.

Everything went great. They showed up on time, got the job done quick and everything looks great. It was a last minute call (called on a Monday to have them come in on Friday that week) and they were able to accommodate. They were also about 30% less expensive for their minimum charge (which is what this small job fell under) than another company I called.

AG arrived on time to all appointments, gave a straightforward quote and clear instructions, did all work to my extreme satisfaction, and worked to ensure I was informed and pleased throughout the process. They are now my go to for any future flooring needs and I would recommend them to anyone.

he two installers were quiet but very hard working -- came at 8:00 am, took a 30 minute break for lunch, and did not leave until we were completely satisfied at 630 that evening. ||Altho the showroom is not the greatest, the owner was very informative and provided everything we needed at a very fair price.

Seemed to be a professional outfit and were responsive to our initial inquiry. Choose to go with another vendor for a variety of reasons. Would consider requesting a bid in the futre if more work is needed.

I got quotes from three firms - AG was the best value. I have done work with them before. The crews were on time, courteous, and professional. They took care not to let the cat out of the basement. They addressed my questions and requests for corrections. The receptionist Evelin is very personable and responsive -- calling each day to let me know what time to expect the crew and asking how things were going. Its important to be able to reach someone in the office even on Saturday if crews are out working. There was a lot of dust to clean and paint to touch up afterwards - which I guess goes with the territory.

AG Floors did a very nice job -- their quote for the job was competitive, and the installation went smoothly. The installation team, in particular, were professional and timely. Very happy with the work.

They had been under carpeting since I moved in. they are beautiful and AG did a really good job. They are going to be coming back and doing the floor in the basement.

They polished the wooden floors and replace a few floor pieces.

Installation of the wooden flooring left a mess in the house as most surfaces were not covered as promised. The quality of the wood that was used for the flooring was poor which resulted in chips, seems that came apart and dings appearing within the first month. It is clear this vendor rode the wave of high reviews on Angie's List and simply gave up on quality in order to cash in.

AG Floors did two jobs for us in the same week: refinished an entire room's hardwood floor, and installed new carpet in our bedroom. Their estimate was competitive (and accurate!) and the work is spot-on. For the carpet, the estimator brought samples to our house, which I didn't have any other companies do -- they all want you to go to their showrooms, and when you're moving and working, that's just not possible. That made it easy for my husband and I to choose (and agree on!) the carpet we ultimately used. The carpet installation guys also left me an additional strip of carpet I asked for if we eventually remove a built-in headboard; that was no additional cost. The hardwood is a beautiful job, and it was in bad shape. The floor had been under carpet for decades and was covered with paint splatters. AG's guys took it down to its boards and made sure I saw their stain sample and understood about the finishing and curing time. The wood looks beautiful and matched our existing stain perfectly. AG's receptionist is very easy to work with -- incredibly responsive and was very understanding when the floors team couldn't get in because I'd given them the wrong key. They were able to change the work time for when we could arrive at the house and still get the job done that day. I'll definitely be hiring AG in the future, likely to re-carpet our entire basement.

They were wonderful. I’ve worked with 3 crews and they have been absolutely top notch. They’re about $500-600 cheaper than the competition. They come in and get the job done. They’re very particular about their work. They’re very respectful. There’s no hassle involved with working with them. I’ve been really pleased with the 2 jobs I’ve had done. They made the floors look like brand new. My real estate agent said that the floors were the reason the house was sold. They did a really good job. I've recommended them to dozens of people.

From the day a woman came in to discuss our options, it was wonderful working with them. they were nice and did a fabulous job.

I was very pleased with AG Floors. Overall, they provide great value for the price. I had them refinish a couple of my worst floors when I first moved in, then did not hesitate to hire them again to do the rest of the house while I was out of town. They were quite flexible with the timing of the job, and both times that the floors dried too slowly, they sent the team over outside of normal working hours to ensure the floors were finished on schedule. The before/after transformation was dramatic, and although you probably won't get a "warm and fuzzy," friendly vibe in your dealings with some of the employees, in the end they do what they promised at a reasonable price, and that's what matters.

These folks are great, very professional, punctual and great results. You know they know what they are doing from the git-go and they stayed right on estimate. If I had a complaint, and it is a very small one, they could be more aggressive when they see something that will perhaps look less than great in the finished product like stains that look light on the sanded floor but pop out on the finished one... so this was mostly my fault... but hey, I get my floors refinished once in a lifetime and they do it every day... C'est la vie. Bottom Line: I highly recommend these folks.

I was a little torn about what to rate AG Floors. In some ways, it was an OK experience, but there were a few negatives, which range from mildly offputting to seriously problematic, and which led me to the lower rating. When AG Floors came out to give us an estimate, they said our existing hardwood floors were red oak. Another flooring company later told us we had white oak. To AG's credit, when I mentioned this to them, they agreed to come back out to my house again and check. When they checked, they agreed it was actually white oak. OK, fine, but it is a good thing we had them come back out, since if we'd followed their initial advice we would have had different wood, and the idea was to match the existing floors. We hired AG floors anyway because their bid came in much lower and they still seemed reasonably competant. Work began on time, the crew worked hard and everyone was responsive and friendly. No problems there. One hiccup we had was that our house has an addition, and the floor of the addition upstairs isnt level with the rest of the house (its off by about 2 inches). AG was planning to just have a little step down, which would have resulted in me tripping every time I tried to leave my room. Initially they told me that was all they could do, but after a lot of pushing, they came up with a solution of building a little ramp. I appreciated that they ultimately came up with a solution, but I wasn't that thrilled that it required a lot of pushing and that they otherwise were planning on installing a tripping hazard. Still, they did ultimately do what I wanted, so I was still pretty happy at this point. This is when things started to go badly. When the floors were finished, we thought they generally looked nice. BUT, first of all, the old owners had drilled some holes in the existing floors, presumably to run cables through, and I thought AG would patch them or replace those boards when they refinished that room. I think we had discussed as much. They didn't, so now we still have holes in our new floors. Second, they took all of our closet doors off, and just left them. When we moved in, we had closet doors everywhere. When we tried to put them back on, we realized that the master bedroom closet no longer seemed to go into place. They had taken up the track and installed wood under it, so now the track was higher, so the door no longer fit. To me, this seems like a pretty obvious result that they should have seen coming, and planned around (e.g., stopped at the tracks and started again on the other side, rather than lifting the tracks and installing wood under it). We called and explained the situation, and they said they'd send someone out. They did, but the person they sent couldnt get the closet door back on (because it didnt fit anymore, which I'd already told them), and said he couldn't fix it. So then I had to schedule ANOTHER time for someone to actually fix it (on a week day, so I had to miss work). What they ended up doing was cutting out the wood from underneath the track. The result is that there's a jaddedy piece of wood where it was cut, and it looks pretty bad. If they had just done it correctly in the first place, we wouldn't have that situation. So, ultimately, I'm not very happy with them.

It only took two days to install the floors, and there were two workers. The floors look great, months later. They cleaned up after themselves also.

AG Floors must be very busy!! They were contacted 3 times over a 2 week period and never bothered to respond. I received their automatic response: "Thank you for your email. A customer representative will respond to you within 24 hrs regarding your comments or questions. Thanks, Staff, AG Floors? Maybe they should change it to: "We may or may not respond. Don't hold your breathe. You should probably find another contractor that will respond.?

Appointment was at 11:00 a.m. AG Floors representative called at 11:00 a.m. to say she would be late. I asked how late,(12:30). I said that this was not acceptable. She asked if I would like to schedule another appointment. I responded no and asked why it was going to take her an hour and a half to get to my address. She mentioned that the GPS said noon but she was allowing for possible traffic. Considering that it was Columbus Day, I suggested there would be no traffic and noon worked better for me. She arrived promptly at noon. The measurements were done in about 15 minutes. She mentioned that she had been doing this for a long time. I received the AG Floors quote the next day. The quote was considerbly lower than the other contractors. However I did not feel we would work well together.

I have had a number of subcontractors working on my house and have never written a review but AG Floors is worth the time and effort. They were perfect from beginning to end. Yasmin came to my house a number of times to work out details and it never seemed to be a problem. They worked long days for 2 weeks straight and they had to work in sequence with another subcontractor and they took everything in stride. The result was perfect and every one who comes to my house complements me on the floors.

Everything about this transaction went well, from the knowledgeable and pleasant estimator to the hardworking, pleasant, and talented crew (headed by Jose) to the daily calls from the office with the arrival time for the next day and installment billing notification. (1/3 down, 1/3 half way through, 1/3 when satisfied at the end). The job took two days less time than anticipated, the men were very careful with the furniture, the mess was minimal, and we are thrilled with the result. The only proviso (and they do warn about this): you will need to repaint your baseboards when they are done. They can't get close to the wall without hitting the baseboards.

The quality was good, but the people who did the actual installation were somewhat rude and not very friendly.
