+ -1 moreI can't speak to this company's decks and fences, but I'd not recommend this company for installing paver patios. They did an initially beautiful job cutting the pavers for and installing an irregularly-edged (oval) patio in Nov 2017, but the sand leaked out within ~2 weeks of the installation. They made a good-faith effort to fix it by resending it (to their credit, more than once, going to Nov 2018), but they never fixed the *underlying* issue. (Part of the patio is above-ground, so something needs to be done to keep the sand in around those exposed edges.) In the end, the patio leaked sand within 2 days of the final re-sanding, and I was left with a patio that still (and will always) leak sand. This was despite numerous discussions with the company about how to fix the underlying problem. (Most of those involved me doing research and running my ideas by them, as they said they had not hit this problem before and had no solutions.) Yet none of the discussed solutions was implemented; simple re-sanding was the only thing done in the end, and we already knew that did not work. Another consideration: Deck and Fence does only installation, not maintenance, of its patios. Turns out it is typical in this industry that the installer provides the maintenance during the product's life (for a price, of course). E.g. Resanding, stain removal, sealing. So now I am having a hard time finding anyone else to rectify the problem. That should be an indication of the quality of this company's product, if they are not willing to maintain what they themselves install.

The project manager Greg {removed employee last name}, {removed personal information} explained to us the specifics of the needed work with great knowledge paired with his rich experiences and therefore we decided to hire the Deck and Fence Company. His Crew of Francisco, Kevin , and Alex did a terrific job! They had amazing skills always steady in their work and adding even a few extra reinforcements. It was an amazing experience having these employees from The Deck and Fence Company completing in time, beautifully executed and taking pride in their work while achieving the task. I most highly recommend them!

+ -1 moreThe floor boards on our deck and steps were rotting out. We contacted The Deck & Fence company to have our deck resurfaced with Azek composite material. (We also requested estimates from other deck companies as well.) The Deck & Fence Company was the most responsive to a request for an estimate and they came out faster than anyone else. They were also less expensive than anyone else. We worked with Brad Hopkins on our project and he quoted multiple options for us and really worked with us, to get us within our price range. The deck crew came out on time, as scheduled, and they did a great job on the deck and on cleanup of the job afterwards. Brad came back a few days later, after the job was complete, to do our final walk-through and to take back our punch out list to the crew. We only had a couple very minor things that we asked to be fixed-- one screw on one of the steps didn't quite make it into the riser and there was a bit of separation from the beam to the joists on one side that happened during demo that we asked them to bang that back into place. I would recommend them to anyone!

Chris was very responsive and answered all of our questions before, during, and after project completion. George and his wife were punctual, professional, and made sure to leave a clean work area after each day. They did an excellent job on the patio and worked long hours in order to complete the project on time. We are very happy with the result.

He was very detailed about the construction process, materials available, what typically works together (as well as what doesn't) and payment options. The work crews showed up when they said they would, did top-notch work and cleaned up after they were done. It's really hard to overstate how great things went. Their prices are on the higher end, but comparable to other contractors (we got quotes from three different contractors for the same work). You also get what you pay for, though. We couldn't be happier with the results!

+ -1 moreWe called and they were able to get someone out to see us right away. Greg Kapanoske was our project manager and gave us a complete description of the process of doing a redeck. We showed him some pictures of what we envisioned and he showed us photos of decks they had done that were so similar, we felt comfortable that it would look exactly like we wanted. Greg even left us with a Trex sample so we could make sure that was the color we wanted. Once we made a decision and he came out to do the contract with us, he gave us a 4 to 6 week time frame, but was able to even note that we needed HOA approval while still putting us in the system. They ended up calling just a week later with an opening in the schedule and we had just gotten approval, so we were ready to go. The crew came out exactly as scheduled. They were very professional and worked quickly. Our new Trex was installed within just a few days. We did have to wait a few more days for them to get the railings in, but that is to be expected when the type of items we wanted were special order and they were able to get us scheduled so quickly. They even added a dog gate at our steps, which has a key locking latch and everything (I was so excited to share so the picture is before this was added.) We love our new deck and friends who came to celebrate were impressed with how much better the deck looked. We definitely would recommend the Deck & Fence Company.

+ -1 moreThe job went great from start to finish. Greg Kapanoske, Project Coordinator did a very good job coordinating the project from design, getting permits, and the build process. The crew that built the porch and ramp were very professional and the quality and preciseness of work was excellent. They even worked in the rain one day to get the job completed. Upon completion the whole job site was cleaned up and power washed. Could not be happier with the final product.

Joe Dembeck, the project manager, explained the process and was very open about costs, expectations, and answered all the questions I had. He and his team (from his initial measurements, to the design team, to the engineers, and the construction crew) were consummate professionals and he kept me informed every step of the way. They were able to complete the project above my expectations and around the holidays no less. I am extremely happy with the services received and will gladly recommend them to anyone looking for a new deck.

The basic project was started in September AND IT IS STILL NOT FINISHED! WORSE YET, BRAD AND CREW UNILATERALLY DECIDED TO CHANGE THE PATIO DESIGN, DID NOT ASK OR CONSENT OR ADMIT THEIR ERROR BEFORE THEY DID WHAT THEY DID. HIGHLY DISRESPECTFUL AND INAPPROPRIATE MANNER TO TREAT PEOPLE IN GENERAL INCLUDING OATING CUSTOMERS
Description of Work: In September, 2017 we looked for a deck, patio and screen room provider who could complete the work before Thanksgiving week, 11/19. Although they would not promise that date, we were told it was likely if the approvals were available promptly. We did sign a contract, now with great regret. The contract was signed on 9/12/2017 and all design and work approvals were completed on 10/17, about a month later. Thanksgiving came and went -- not only was the promise NOT completed, but it was not even started. Finally, on 11/27 the deck project started and partly finished on 12/4. The patio work did not start until 12/12 and partly finish on 12/19. We were shocked and VERY UPSET to see the patio. The design is significantly altered to the project design plans we reviewed, authorized approved. George,the patio builder realized that Brad had made significant design errors including miscalculation of the slope of the area. GEORGE AND BRAD DECIDED THAT TO FIX THIS SERIOUS MISTAKE, THEY WOULD BUILD A SECOND, SMALLER WALL ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. INCREDIBLY, WE WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT THIS SIGNIFICANT AND SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM. WE WERE NOT GIVEN DESIGN CHANGE VERBAL OR WRITTEN CHANGE AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENTS. Such behavior is significantly in violation of the contract terms of the company. In our view rhe Deck and Fence Company treated us in a manner that was completely inappropriate, unprofessional unethical and probably illegal. We really dislike the design itself and asked Brad that he change it. Incredibly, Brad insisted that they used more bricks so they gave us something EXTRA and BETTER We totally disagree and are highly dissatisfied with these unauthorized and unwanted changes. We said we wanted them to fix their mistakes. Brad said we would be charged $5,000 or $8,000 MORE at our cost. We were VERY UPSET with all of this fiasco and the highly disrespectful manner in which we were treated by Brad AGAIN, There was a great deal more to discuss, but we were looking after our VERY ill nearly 93 year old mom. We did not have time to deal with Brad further and we really wanted hi off our property. Brad did offer $500 for the multi thousand dollar mistake Brad made. My sister agreed just because we needed to go care for mom and we plan to turn the matter over to our attorney. To make natters even worse, Brad still did not fix the gutters on the screen room and has no plans to do so till sometime in January.

+ -1 moreIn the end, I'm very happy with my new deck. When I was gathering estimates, the Deck and Fence Company had the best price for what I wanted and included more features, such as a Trex handrail and a powder-coated aluminum secondary handrail along the stairs. The salesperson, Greg Kapanoske, was also way more thorough with the options and design process than all other providers. He also brought along samples of the Trex options, a very large book of their completed projects, and spent time measuring out my ideas. This helped seal the deal. I signed my contract on 7/7/17 and was excited for this to get built. I was given an estimate of 6-8 weeks for the approximate start date. The permit was approved on 7/26/17. Work began, I believe the last week of August or the first week of September, which was near the tail end of the estimated start date - no issues there. However, things went downhill after the deck was built. It failed inspection 4 times by the county. In all fairness, I cannot place all of the blame on the Deck and Fence Company for this, as their construction adhered to the permit plans that were approved by the county. However the inspector deemed the landing footers to not be thick enough and the landing did not have direct bearing on the footers. The issue that arose was the Deck and Fence Company's crew not rectifying this issue in the first place. After numerous calls to the office, the crew would come out and make adjustments that did not actually fix the issue the inspector had with the landing. Thus it kept failing inspection. After the 4th fail, the crew finally came out and replaced the 4x4 footers with 6x6 ones and it passed on 10/16/17. While I'm very happy with the final product, I think that the Deck and Fence Company could improve their processes by having a supervisor come out to inspect the work prior to the county inspector visit, and definitely after the inspector fails a deck. That never happened, but it could have averted some disgruntled phone conversations. Overall, I'm happy with my deck and the office staff did follow through with my requests. However, 3 months to complete a small deck is far too long.
Description of Work: I needed an old, out-of-code, set of wooden stairs removed and replaced with a usable wooden deck with a landing and less steep stairs.

I got more than one estimate, and this one just seemed to be the right fit for me. Everything went as planned and as specified in my contract. I knew what was going on each step of the way. Once the deck and gazebo were finished, I was so pleased with the finished product and the excellent craftmanship. The team that tore down my old deck and built the new deck worked like a fine oiled machine. It was amazing to watch them work each day! I would use them again for sure!

+ -1 moreI was prepared to write a super positive review. The deck itself is beautiful, working with Mark to solidify the contract and walk me through the ins and outs of what to expect was great. My experience initially with the Deck and Company was great! Until it came to inspection time. I dealt with their front office, where they sometimes answer the phone, sometimes don't. I understand that I live in a very strict county when it comes to inspections. However, after the deck was finished, a substantial amount of dirt was left around each of the posts (6) to allows for settling and prevent water damage. Actually all the dirt they dug up to put the post in was left around the post. When I called to ask would they remove at least some of it, the The Deck and Fence Company would only remove some of the dirt if I paid them to come back out. My first issue with this is, the PG County Inspector is stating that it must be removed, not me. The Deck and Fence Company will not oblige. Though regulations do not state it all most be removed, and reasonable amount most be left in place. Yes I understand the word "reasonable" is subjective, however, "all" of the dirt is not a reasonable standard. Therefore, I must remove the dirt myself! With that, I am led to not recommend The Deck and Fence Company to anyone. I hope they change their practices.
