It was a little expensive. They didn't really take good care with my home. They put some dings in my home and there were patches in the finished room on the walls, doors and floor board. I thought it should look brand new so I had to actually ask them to fix it. The salesman was very good, he would come out to my home and see how thing was going. I think the product was overpriced and they should have taken more care with my home.
Description of Work: They came out and waterproofed our basement and finished a room in our basement.

The project went smoothly and beautifully from start to finish.
Description of Work: Last year, we had a flood in our basement. J&D came out immediately to begin water removal and restoration. Each and every service person that came into our house was a true pleasure to work with. We also had J&D waterproof the basement, and install a new sump pump. They repaired the drywall, painted. At the time, we did not put a battery back up in. I had contracted with them to install one this past mid June. However, we did experience an electrical outage, and did get a small amount of water in the basement. When I contacted them the next morning to see if we could move up the battery backup installation, they squeezed me in that day. J&D has always been able to do the work beyond our expectations. I recommend them highly.

It was started early in the morning and it was a one day thing, which is really nice. The dispution to my household was minimal, and they cleaned up the place afterwards.
Description of Work: We had a "frame straightener" frame put inside the basement. This thing is in the ceiling of the basement and it has a knob on it that gets turned once a year and it keeps tension on the walls of the house.

Used their web site to request an estimate for said work, they called back within 2 hours. After a day or so, I received a large envelope with all their services described in catalog form. After reading it cover to cover, I more or less knew what I wanted & needed. J&D Representative came out a few days later, was friendly and helpful, didn't try to up sell me on anything, beyond what I wanted. We scheduled the work for early May 2008. Two weeks prior to the scheduled work date, the person who actually would be performing the work came out to scope out the site and we discussed where they J&D would run the new sump drain. He, too, was very professional and friendly. J&D showed up exactly on time, took great care to keep the job site clean. They finished a day early. The results look great, everything neatly done and as agreed to in the contract. J&D does not use sub-contractors, all workers are employees. All in all, it went very well as I was worried about spending such a large amount of money. These guys don't come cheap, though. But I am a believer in "you get what you pay for".
Description of Work: Sealing walls, installed new drainage system, 2nd sump & Thermal Dry tiles.

The salesman/inspector Rick Hanson spent almost 4 hrs at my home, inspecting the basement and educating me on the problems and various solutions. He drew helpful diagrams to specify the work. There was some pressure to make a decision that day (or within so many days), for a % discount. However, when I stated I wasn't ready to make a decision, he did not push further. Prior to the appointment, The Basement Doctor sent a large packet of brochures and a book - very helpful for educational purposes, but I wonder if it adds to the overall cost of the jobs... They also emphasize a number of patented products that no other company has. If you want 'top of the line,' this is probably the company to do your work. However, I opted to go with a smaller company for a faster, simpler and less costly job.
Description of Work: I had water coming through one basement wall, and a poor drainage system off the downspouts. Also, the wall was bowed up to 1 1/2". The estimate was for waterguards, sump pump (the 'ultra'), ice guard, rain chutes, 5 glass block windows, window enclosures and seven (7) power braces for the basement wall.

Work crews were timely, and were careful to cover/protect areas not being worked on. They maintained a very clean work area for a 2 day job. After 6 months we noticed a heavy yellow color on the epoxy application, we contacted the company, they assured that the contracted work would need to be redone, they had to re-prime all the affected walls and re-coat with their "BD" product. This caused us additional days off work. UPDATE ADDED ABOVE 8/2011.
Description of Work: Basement wall had freeze line crack that wall reinforces were installed over this, a cleaning solution was applied to "mold areas" layered with epoxy and acrylic for a clean white high gloss shine on treated walls. UPDATE : As of today 8/2011, most of the epoxy painted wall areas have taken on a spotty yellowed look. a big change from the high gloss white when they completed the job. We are highly disappointed with how it looks especially since they had found the original epoxy to have a 'chemical mix problem' which forced the crew to return to our house to re-do the paint application process of the walls a second time. Care instructions recommend we DO NOT paint over the epoxy so we now have to deal with yellowing walls.

THEY CAME OUT IMMEDIATELY AND OF COURSE CHARGED US FOR IT. WE THEN STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH WATER IN OUR FAMILY ROOM. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO BREAK UP THE CONCRETE AROUND THE EDGES IN THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE AND PUT IN A FRENCH DRAIN PIPE. I WENT AHEAD AND CALLED IN ANOTHER WATER PROOFING PLACE, AND HE SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE MAIN LINE. HE TOLD ME TO CALL OUT A PLUMBER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE MAIN LINE. THEY FIXED THE MAIN LINE AND WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE. J & D WAS GOING TO CHARGE $5,000 TO, IN THEIR OPINION, FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE FIXED IT AT ALL.
Description of Work: WE HAD WATER IN OUR BASEMENT, AND THEY SAID THAT WE NEEDED A SUMP PUMP. THEY PUT IN THE SUMP PUMP, AND IT WOULD RUN ABOUT EVERY MINUTE AND A HALF AND WATER WAS RUNNING OUTSIDE. WE CALLED THEM TO HAVE THEM COME BACK OUT, AND IT SEEMED THAT NO ONE WAS ON THE SAME PAGE. THEY CAME OUT AND "FIXED" THE PROBLEM, THEY PUT A NEW PIPE ON TO FIX THE WATER SITUATION OUTSIDE. WE THEN HAD TO CALL THEM AGAIN BECAUSE THE SUMP PUMP WENT OUT BEFORE THE END OF THE WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED THE SUMP PUMP AND EXTENDED OUT WARRANTY. SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS UP, WE HAD TO HAVE THEM COME BACK, OUT BECAUSE THE SUMP PUMP BURNT OUT AGAIN AND WE HAD FLOODING IN OUR BASEMENT.

Excellently done. Work was superb. The foreman spoke English and Spanish. They covered everything so that dust didnt get over anything and put plastic on the floors (as well as on everything else) so they wouldnt track anything in the house. Wes Martin was the project manager. Alfredo was the foreman. Everyone was very professional, courteous and diligent in their work. I would recommend them strongly. They took the time to explain how to take care of the system.
Description of Work: We had a continuing problem with water coming inside the wall. They put in a new drainage system, fixed weep holes, put in a de-humidifier in the crawl space and fixed the sump pump overflow.

They did a really nice job. They sprayed all the walls for mold and dug out part of the crawl space. They lined the crawl space with a liner to protect from bacteria. They did such a nice job. They even put in some outlets for me and hooked everything up to one switch. They cleaned up after themselves.

It went extremely well. The sales person was courteous. The work was done on time. The workers were punctual, professional and very nice. I am very happy with the results.
Description of Work: I had leaky gutters which I had already fixed, but there was residual peeling paint etc. on the basement walls. They scraped and cleaned the perimeter cement block walls of my large basement; filled in cracks; put on an epoxy product to seal the walls; painted them with a bright white paint that stops mold, etc.

The salesman was informative and responsive but a little pushy. Overall the employees were prompt, hardworking and cleaned up after themselves. They had a big job in a small space (we have a very large 1000 SF crawl space that is only about 3 feet high). They did the project as asked. It has been effective in eliminating moisture and keeping out any small animals who had gotten in through the weep holes. The crawl space is now much cleaner and brighter and easier to move about in.
Description of Work: In January, they removed insulation from the crawl space, added gravel around all edges to cover weepholes and installed a clean space system sealing the crawlspace.

Ed the project manager came out and explained what the crawlspace encasement was, how it worked and also sold us on the battery backup package for the sump pump. The foreman came out with one other guy and installed everything like they said. The guys were really nice, they moved some junk from under the crawlspace that we couldn't get out. The job was completed early afternoon, the workers were very careful not to mess up the main floor, putting down plastic so they did not track dirt from the basement upstairs. Over all we are very satisfied with the project. However, I did not get a copy of the work order nor have they had any follow up with us to see if there are any problems or just to check on the work performed. My bad, not asking for a copy of the paperwork, which I am sure we just have to call for a copy. But I thought it to be very strange we have heard nothing from them. Take the money and run!!

They dug up all around our basement walls and installed a drain and sump pump years ago. We've kept using them for the last 16 years because of their good work. The following work has happen between 12/06 & 1/07: They've also installed steel beams and installed plastic liner in our crawlspaces. They also installed a de-humidifier. They've also started doing basement remodeling, flooring, painting interior, windows and they've gone way beyond what we've asked for. They've had servicemen out to fix all kinds of problems for us and had all of our electronics installed with our remodel.

There was no guarantee on their work. They went through my outside deck, and tore out drywall to get to the wall and they don't repair any of that. They tell you that ahead of time, but it still causes problems.
Description of Work: I had two spots leaking water. I called them and they gave me some recommendations. I paid about $3000 to go with their recommendations. Their solutions didn't help at all, and then they recommended I get another company to fix the problem.

I want to start by saying Jeff was exceptional. He was very professional and a good person. He came by give me the presentation, and although they were the highest priced I was going to go with them. Mainly because of Jeff. I liked him because he didn't talk bad about other companies and did not try to force me into getting the work done. The problem arose because there was an error in pricing, and they would not honor my original price. Jeff came back out to my house and we talked about it he said there was nothing he could do about the price. He called his boss and since I would not budge off the original price they finally decided to honor the price, but it was too late. I felt as if they did not want my business or they would have honored the original quote. On top of that the manager didn't come out to smooth things over when the error was made. I he would have came out they would have had the job. Overall my experience was good though. Jeff is the man, give him a raise!!!!!!!!!!

As with our previous experience with J & D Basements everything went well. We called them on a Monday after noticing over the weekend that water was coming in a new area of our basement. They were able to have someone out within a few hours. We were given an estimate upfront and that was honored. The workmen arrived on time and were careful to protect the areas of our finished basement that were not being worked on. They were polite and did an excellent job of cleaning up.
Description of Work: Extended a drainage system previously installed by the same company to eliminate water seepage into the basement. We had an excellent result with the initial drainage system installed and expect the same results with the extension.

The salesman was much better than the previous rep. who gave me a gloom & doom presentation. The salesman knew his stuff, but there would've been so much demo and repositioning of pipes that it kind of scared me. I figured that there's got to be a company who can do the complete job without completely destroying my basement. Behind the glossy brochures and snazzy laptop presentation was a price that blew me away. The salesman prefaced his estimate by stating that they are not the cheapest in the industry, and boy he didn't lie. The estimate was for over $16k for the basic waterproofing services. This was more than twice the amount offered by the company we selected for the same services. Though I have no doubt that J&D can do a great job, paying that amount seemed crazy. I guess they have to pay for all the flashy commercials & brochures somehow. I couldn't bring myself to go with J&D for my basement.

I called J&D in a bit of a panic when I ''sloshed'' into my basement one morning. They were one of two companies that I called and they were the first to return my call with the offer of immediate help. My sump pump had failed and water had flooded my basement. I had just put new flooring down and I wanted help fast. J&D came out in one hour, replaced my pump, and that afternoon had all of the fans going and I was on my way to a dry basement. Because of their quick response, my carpet was saved and all I had to replace was the padding. The basement smells fine and I have no evidence of ever having water. I can't thank all of them enough. Tom the owner, and all of his employees were pleasant to deal with and definitely made a difficult situation MUCH easier. I would use them again and I would recommend them again and again.

First class operation all the way. From the first inspection, through completion and after the sale warranty service, J&D is the best in the business. It pains me to no end to spend that much money on a basement, but the health of a home starts with its foundation. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and know that this investment will pay both short term and long term dividends with improved living and storage space. Since we are renovating a circa 1925 home, all of the improvements we're making above the basement are made with confidence knowing if we were to ever resell, there will be no issues with the quality of the foundation. Beyond the investment side of things, the new improved space adds several hundred feet of clean, dry usable space. We love it!
Description of Work: Complete basement waterproofing system. Installed waterproofing system around all exterior facing basement walls, jack hammered basement floor and installed below grade gutter system, then recovered with cement, epoxy glued all cement cracks. Added two triple safe sump pump systems, trenching to the street and installation of a commercial grade dehumidifier system. They also painted all of the basement walls with a waterproofing/antimicrobial paint. Additionally, they installed a vapor antimicrobial barrier in part of the basement that had a small dirt exposed crawl space. Also had them install 5 glass block windows, roughly 3 feet by 5 feet in size, and replaced a hot water tank and coordinate with a radon company to integrate the two systems together.

They were very conscientious of my schedule and did estimates on my schedule and did the work quickly and competently. They also placed plastic on their walking path so they wouldn't track mud in my house. Also, they damaged my water main but quickly called a plumber to have it fixed at their expense. They were also very friendly.
Description of Work: I had a wall bowed 2.25'' that was moving (slowly) and decided to get them in to do the beams. They estimated the job and then sent another estimator to check the work of the first guy (I liked that). They got the work done in a day and were extremely clean. Will the beams hold the wall? Time will tell. The work looks good. I'm hopeful.
