We needed a price for waterproofing our basement. The salesperson was among the most professional and sincere of all the ones we got. We wound up going with another contractor that our builder chose, so we really did not have a choice. But we appreciated Mr. Basement's offer.

Ensure you understand what you are being told and ask and confirm what are the options.
Description of Work: The cracked foundation wall, due to earth quake, was filled in. And the foundation drainage under the wall crack was dug out and rebuilt. The inspector who came on sight did not seem to have all the information/knowledge he needed to specify an epoxy type fill or complete rebuilt. He had to consult with the "back office engineer" to get it straight. The work accomplished was excellent.

Overall, I would give them a B+. It is critically important to manage the dust during the demolition. It got over everything and it will take me weeks to clean it up. Again, my biggest concern was the proce for the package, and the lack of a total solution (no painting, no rug re-installation).
Description of Work: Extensive flooding from both Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Contractor representative arrived within three days of phone call. Scheduling took over three weeks. Was a little bit shocked by the price. I think they charge way too much. I worked with two different crews: one did demolition of the existing finished basement and the other did basement restoration. Demo only took two days (including installation of a bright wall system). Restoration took longer. While the initial recommendation from the contractor was steel, I much preferred lumber. Had a real problem with dust control. I have a fine coating of concrete dust (from demolition) all over the basement (book cases, books, rugs, etc). It will take forever to clean up the dust. The restoration crew was very careful in limiting dust spread from sheetrock installation. I didn't understand why Mr. Basement would put the basement back together without offering painting services. I was on my own for that, as well as rug re-installation. Both the painting and the rug restoragion costed more than I anticipated, above the $15,000 already paid to Mr. Basement.

We had water in our basement after hurricane Irene and the subsequent rainstorms. Mr. Basement promptly sent a representative who offered to install a comprehensive drain system to relieve hydrostatic pressure. Then a supervisor showed up who elaborated on the rep's information. They made no effort to check out any other possible source of the problem. Turns out all we needed to do was caulk around the basement door. Their estimate: $7K. Real cost of repair: about $10 for caulk.

The quote was free. The experience was fine. I thought the quote was high. I decided that I am not getting it done right now. The guy who came out was extremely professional. He told me everything that they would do. I just decided not to go with them. There was nothing against the guy who came out. I would consider using them again.

I was a repeat customer of Mr. Basement due to a good experience I previously had. But this recent experience has been NOT good at all. The price I was given for a sump pump backup system was more than twice the amount given by several other companies listed on Angies List Rated A or better. I plan on not using this company and going with another for my backup sump pump need. This company looks to have lost the way and need to come to grips that we are and will be in a recession for years to come. Price breaks might be a good thing for this business in the short term.

Just completed a kitchen remodeling and wanted to insulate the crawl space under the kitchen. Mr. Basement sealed off the vented crawl space and encapsulated the ground up to the rim joints with their "white space" material. Plus, they sprayed foam insulation at the rim joints. Not only did I get in insulated crawl space, I now have additional temperature controlled storage space. They did a very professional job with quality materials.

This was an interesting one. I asked them come out to quote on a basement waterproofing and finishing job and they were 40 minutes late. They did in fact call to say they would be ten minutes late, which wouldn't have been a problem, but 40 minutes generally tells me they have scheduling issues and raises the question - how late would they be if I actually gave them the job? So I bumped my next appointment up so I could give them an hour if they needed it. I was prepared to look past the initial tardiness and see what they had to say. Well guess what, in the salesman Ed Meyer's 'notes' it was just for a waterproofing quote. He wasn't a finisher and couldn't quote on finishing... so they sent the wrong person. But I was prepared to look past that too. I figured Ed, who was generally a nice guy despite his lack of punctutality, could give me the waterproofing quote and we could take the finishing as stage two. So he said he'd get in touch with a quote the following day. Well, I gave him four days, then called them up. Ed said he'd been slammed, and that "he just forgot" to send the quote and would do so that afternoon. It happens. We can all be forgetful. I usually try not to be, as far as my job is concerned, but we all have different standards. More than a week later, still nothing. It's almost like they don't want the work! No doubt the comany will post a response, declaring their "shock" that Ed could be so late and then forget to actually send the customer a quote for the job. Well, looking at the previous reviews it seems to be par for the course! It's unfortunate, really. I'm just glad I didn't actually book them to do the job. I would have still been waiting in 2020! The Basement Guys, Rogers Basement Waterproofing and Aquaguard were all punctual and managed to get me quotes on the day they came out - within 30 minutes of arriving!

Their service was excellent and their representatives / workers were all professional, courteous, helpful, and informative. I cannot imagine our calling anyone else for basement problems.
Description of Work: They diagnosed and treated mold problem in our basement. Removed fiberglass insulation and replaced it with foam insulation. Treated mold problem areas with Anabec-brand mist-spray-wipe/on cleaner and mold remover/ resister chemicals. Sold us an industrial strength dehumifier. Entire operation took about 3 days. Returned a month or so later to follow up and confirm satisfaction.

Overall, they did a good job. I haven't had any problems with water since their service. However, I was told that they didn't use subcontractors, and the worker who performed the service seemed to be just that. Every time I asked him a question, he had to contact the home office. The clean was good, but I feel they could have done a neater job. For example, some of the columns that were installed aren't completely straight.

We asked for an estimate on finishing our entire basement (1100 sq. ft.). This would include a great room/area, bedroom, bathroom, storage room, and play area/room. Saleman was prompt and professional. He gave us a general figure of $40/sq ft. We talked at some length about a basement plan/blueprint we had previously had drawn up. The salesman said he would create a detailed estimate for us within a couple of days. We haven't heard from him since then. Everything about the experience was fine except for the follow-through. RE: We did get a call from the salesman a couple of weeks later, and he apologized about things falling through the cracks. Apologies accepted, but at that point we had already signed on with another contractor so we declined pursuing things further. Based on the provider's response below, I would take a second look at The Basement Doctor for future projects.

The rep on the first visit inspected the area of concern, and called it 'curb creep' from the shocks of parking cars on a concrete pad. This was indeed the area where the blocks had begun to come in. He explained what they would do in detail, and gave us an estimate. On the second visit the foreman inspected the area using the drawings and notes from the first rep, and answered any new questions we had. When the work team showed up, because of scheduling issues a different foreman was present, but everything went smoothly and professionally. I had the opportunity to closely inspect the work before signing off. Cleanup by the crew was excellent.
Description of Work: Installed four power braces and sealed cracks in basement. Top rows of blocks had, in one area (front of garage) tilted in about 2" and a related side wall had developed 1/4 to 1/2" cracks.

They took great care of my property. Took out the last few moldy things we had down there that we couldn't get out. They demo'ed and de-molded the first day. They wore full biohazard suits which was funny because we unloaded the entire basement without any protection. The next day they cut into the concrete around the floor and installed the new drainage system. Then they installed the I bars to bolster the walls. The sump pump installed required an upgrade to my electric box for an additional cost. They even replaced the hoses on my washer and sink because the old ones broke when they removed it. Everything cleaned up one day early. Neighbors who watched the whole thing was impressed on how hard they worked. Negatives: Elecric box upgrade could have been anticipated by the estimator. The first night the air conditioner was turned off and I didn't know how to cause there was a hidden switch. It was a hot August night. After their electrician did the upgrade of the box, there were sparks coming out of the box. It was fixed.
Description of Work: remove moldy drywall and ceiling, gut entire basement then spray everything with mold killer and waterproof. New sump pump and drainage system. Install I bars to support leaning walls about 4 feet all around three walls of the basement.

For some time, when it rains, I've had a slight moisture build up on the cinder block in one corner of my basement. There is no standing water not wall damage... just dampness and some silt buildup. So I called The Basement Doctor and Roger's Basement Waterproofing for estimates. As you might expect, The Basement Doctor is a professional, polished, well organized business. Everything from their appointment system, high quality reading materials and their representatives is thought out and executed with professionalism. Unfortunately I can't recommend their work because they didn't accurately identify my issue, thus the solution offered was a waste of money. Their solution was to seal the unfinished part of my basement wall (three walls in a roughly 6 x 15 area) with a high quality, heavy duty sealant for $1,300. While I'm not a basement waterproofing professional, I do believe that when moisture is present in a basement, you first have to address where that moisture is coming from and stop it. Without that step, no amount of wall sealant is going to going to fix the problem... the water has to go somewhere and if it can't get through one part of the wall... it's going to collect and probably find an area where it can get in. I ended up hiring Rogers who addressed the problem by replacing my exterior rain water run off lines and downspout connections. So far, no more moisture in the basement.
Description of Work: Received a $1,300 estimate to address basement dampness.

The staff that works for this company is very professional and very efficient. It took the crew four days to complete the major work to repair our basement. I would recommend this company to anyone who has an older home that needs basement repair or sunken concrete. We are happy with a job well done!
Description of Work: We had ten steel power braces installed to hold the bowing wall in the basement, in our living area and garage area. We had the water gutter system installed, a new sump pump installed along with battery backup, the front concrete porch lifted with two columns replaced and a drain pipe under our front bay window.

I would highly recommend The Basement Doctor!
Description of Work: We had two cracks in our poured basement wall (home 7 yrs. old) where water was seeping in and pooling on the floor. The Doctor ground the cracks wide enough to inject a wicking material which attracts water and channeled it into the drain under the foundation. It was a great experience from our initial sales call, through the actual installation. The installer was phenomenal in terms of respecting our home and making every effort to leave it as nice as he found it. So far there is no sign of water seepage, but there is a 25 year guarantee on the work which is transferable should we sell

Good front-end analysis of job, including reading engineering report / checking with engineer. Time to schedule had to be reset, and JD did, requiring use of alternate concrete type to set more quickly due to deadline for re-use of porch (a material not first mentioned, but available on our demand and at their cost). Initially JD planned to proceed with no permit -- "it's not needed here" -- but locals heard from JD's utility checker a job was planned, and they asked for permit -- a step I highly valued -- and project delayed while paper was completed, making me less than happy with JD but overall really smart move for soundness. Team who did the work fantastic: checked in ahead to verify the work to do and initial analysis of approach, brought really skilled guys to task, did work "by hand" to move porch slab (8 piers involved) to raise -- it worked. Worth the amount of money to get the job done well.
Description of Work: Our porch slab floor, with finished 3-season room above, was sinking. We reviewed several approaches and chose JD drilling holes into floor & installing helical screws to stabilize / maybe raise floor (no promises on raise, but experience bore out the approach worked, making our doors / windows operate where before they'd tightened in place). Prior, had engineer do analysis finding no foundation under slab, not uncommon in '50's-era houses, so had concern about floor cracking / buckling from alternate approaches, wanted approach likely most effective, so this chosen from three alternate approaches / contractors.
