iWe saw Closet America at the home show and set up an appt. They called to confirm a few days before (by which time I had checked them out on Angie's List) and on the scheduled date the designer arrived on time. We discussed our needs and the designers took measurements (using a laser measure). She then sat down and entered the dimensions and the type of closets we wanted to come up with on screen depictions of the closets. We reviewed the designs, made adjustments to come up with the final design. We wanted different finishes and they had many options for the appearance of the closet pieces. The cost was then provided subtracting the discounts we were entitled to - show discount and a discount for displaying a yard sign. We felt the cost was reasonable and signed a contract putting down 30%. The installation date was our choice and since we were prepping the closets (removing all the old rods and shelves) we needed some time - 3 weeks in our case because of factors that arose unrelated to the install. That is not a problem since Closet America makes the component pieces in their local facility. They only need a certain amount of lead time and once we had our schedule set they were able to accommodate our time frame. The installer, Mark, arrived about 10 minutes early. We showed him the two closets and he went to work. He was done in less than three hours. The small closet had some wall issues, but he dealt with them effectively. The larger closet floor was not even. The end pieces have levelers which again worked very effectively. Mark is an experienced installer and very professional (and very friendly and conversational - although not at the expense of getting work done). when the work was finished he went over the installation, demonstrated how to change the shelves - and which ones needed to be left for stability - the way the drawers worked, how to adjust the clothes rods - in other words he made sure we were familiar with everything we needed to know to use the closets in anyway we might want. After he left I was able to adjust the shelves to our needs and put everything back in - with room to spare! The biggest issue for us was a place to put the contents of two filled closets while the closets were prepared for installation. We could have had Closet America clear out the old shelving, etc at an additional cost. Because of the old framing etc. in the closets we felt that there might be issues and it would be more efficient to do it ourselves. It took a couple days to clear everything out, then patch and paint, but it made the install easier. A problem I found and repaired with one wall would have delayed the install and both closets needed to be painted. This is a strong consideration for you need to understand the condition of your closet when you make your decision. Closet America provides a money-back guarantee and will do re-design w/o charging for that re-design (the cost of materials not included). Again it is useful to think through how you want closet to be used. We had long dresses in the larger closet that we decided to store elsewhere, for example. We have seven days to change our mind for the design but we made that decision before even meeting with the designer. Interestingly they even will do a re-design for new owners if you sell your home. We have only had our newly closets for about seven hours, but we are extremely pleased - with our dealings with Closet America, with their design process, with their installer, and with the results.

We were completely satisfied with the work done by Closet America. They sent out a very knowledgeable designer who took the time to make sure the closet was exactly as we needed. I had some minor demo work to do on the closets so Closet America sent their designer out a second time to make sure that the initial measurements were still good. About a week later the installer showed up and did a great job transforming our closets. Great job!!

The designer spent a lot of time with us to help us figure out exactly how to make the best use of the space. The company provided reminders about the install date and kept in contact with us about when they would arrive, and followed up on our satisfaction after the service was complete. The installer put tarps on the floor to keep everything neat, was very efficient, and showed us how the special hardware features we had ordered work. They are a terrific company to work with and we will definitely call them again.

I liked that the installer had a separate pair of shoes to wear in my house. He did not track in any snow, ice or dirt.

The design was done on a Saturday when I was available and the installer did the job on another Saturday. At this point I am satisfied with the work but I was disappointed that they don't provide an angieslist discount until the minimum cost of $2000. I am weighting the score I gave for cost.
