+ 0 moreDisappointing and, I felt, unprofessional. I try very hard not to waste contractors' time and I expect that same courtesy.
Description of Work: Hoffacker's put in a new furnace for us 3 years ago which turned out just fine. So we tried them again about a year ago for an estimate to put in a gas hot water heater to replace an electric unit. That bid was much higher than the other bids so we did not use them for that work. Currently we are in the midst of a large and complicated remodel so, since they put in our current furnace, I called them for a bid to put back together our hvac system. I explained exactly that situation to the person who answered the phone, in fact when she said we can send "a guy" I stopped her and said "I don't want 'a guy', I need a very experience person to come out because this is an involved job". When Dale came out today he took one look around, was in the house less than 5 minutes before he informed me that they don't do jobs of this size and complexity. I told him that is fine; if they don't do work like this then I don't want to hire them to try, but that I shouldn't have had to waste an hour of my time waiting for someone to come out and tell me this when I described this over the phone. He said that they don't turn down anything over the phone, that they have to come out and see. That almost seems reasonable except that I specifically said over the phone that this was a large and involved job. This experience, coupled with the inflated price on the hot water heater proposal of a year or so ago, and I won't waste my time with this company again.

+ -1 moreHe's local here. We've used him for like a year and a half. Before them we used another company and they were just a nightmare. We didn't have good luck for two years and then we switched to these guys. They are really good. We felt his price was pretty reasonable. He's a small guy and because we have a contract with them, if we have questions he will come back. We heard a noise in our gas furnace so he came and started it up each time it cycled. We've never had any service done by him other than being more aware of changing the filters every month. That really cuts down on the heating and cooling bill. What I've done is put up an index card up on my bulletin board and when I look at the board it shows when the last time it was that the service was done. He gave us good ideas and that was a phenomenal thing to do, so that was really good advice.

+ -1 moreI called two companies, both refused to come over the holiday including the one that had just inspected our unit and declared it in good working order. Then I called Hoffacker's on Sunday evening and they came Monday morning as promised and repaired the unit. We paid a holiday surcharge which was fair enough. Then, two weeks later the unit stopped cooling again and it was over the weekend again. We were out of town but someone was staying in the house and needed AC. We called Hoffacker's at 7:30 am and they had someone there by 11:00 am as promised. The problem was the same part that failed before and they repaired it without charge, including the Saturday surcharge. The service person, Glen, was very accommodating to talk to us on the phone to answer all our questions and explain what had happened. He also checked the thermostat controls to be sure the unit was programmed correctly before he left. A good example of good customer care. I will recommend Hoffacker's to everyone.
Description of Work: Our air conditioner stopped cooling over the Memorial Day holiday weekend with record high temperatures. Hoffacher's came promptly and replaced a failed part, repairing the unit for a reasonable charge. Two weeks later the same part failed and Hoffacker's came over a weekend, promptly after we called and made the repair at no charge to us at all.

+ -1 moreThey came out and told me everything looked good and the repair work looked fine. But they told me if I wanted them to evaluate the circulation in the second story and if it was sufficient, then they would have to come back and charge me again for that analysis. When I called and made the appointment and told them what I wanted, no one had informed me that I would have to have two separate appointments and be charged for this to be done. I had called this office to follow up for my quote because no one had gotten back to me and emailed me the quote as promised and they weren’t very responsive and still did not have a quote ready for me, and instead gave me a ball park quote. The technician also went around and put his sticker on every HVAC unit in my house, as if he had done the work. I wouldn’t use this company again.
Description of Work: I had hired a company to come check the work that a previous company had done on my HVAC system. I had also had some other questions and things I wanted them to check out. The air conditioning does not cool the house in the second story during the summer very well.

The technician pointed out all the problems but concluded that it was really unnecessary to fix them (our home inspection report indicated that we needed repair work done). He also offered suggestions for the future about our system. He was clear, honest and knowledgeable. Will definitely hire them when I need help in the future.

+ 2 moreI don't remember what they charged us for the service. We had gotten other bids on the work. Don Hoffacker's bid wasn't the lowest, but it was near the bottom. They have just been really good. They are courteous and they are reliable. Their price was not the cheapest, but it certainly was at the bottom of the spectrum. They were knowledgeable. Everybody who came from them knew what they were talking about. They also knew whether or not they were an expert on it and if they weren't, they would call somebody else. It was a very professional and very reasonable undertaking. We haven't had any problems with anything they did. They come out to check to make sure that everything is okay. It was all arranged ahead of time mutually and it went off like clockwork.
Description of Work: We use Don Hoffacker's Air Conditioning & Heating. Altogether they have given us a new furnace, a new air-conditioner, and a new transfer between the hot and the cold. They have come out to service our units as well.

+ -1 moreIn attempting to remediate a mysterious mold problem in our finished basement, we called a mold expert in. One of the remedies he suggested was installing returns in the HVAC system. Whoever had finished the basement had not installed them. Hoffacker's was so great to work with from the start that we didn't call another company for a competing bid. To save us money on such a relatively small job, they sent their lead technician, Steve, who lives near us so he could stop by for the estimate (and later the work) on his way home, saving call charges. We liked Steve immediately; he was clearly a pro. He even came by a second time, between the estimate and the actual work, to look at work the drywall guy had done and make recommendations for a space to be left open. Steve came with two other men to do the work; both very nice as well. As it turned out, the duct work didn't run the way it looked like it did, so he had to make a different return than one that had been planned. It looked like it was more work to do it this way, but Hoffacker's didn't increase the charge. They also installed a thermostat for us.

He made the repairs quickly, had all the replacement parts on hand and showed us how to prevent the same problem from happening again. We spent about as much on parts as we did on the service, but he came in way under the other phone estimates we got. Most of all, we were thankful for his prompt response. My husband spoke to him at 7a and the heat was repaired by noon!
Description of Work: We needed a new ignition on our gas heater and cleanup and replacement of our humidifier and its filter.

+ -1 moreWe contacted several companies in the area for bids prior to choosing Hoffackers. We had used them in the past and even with an opportunity to select someone else, we choose Hoffackers. Though the price of the new system was somewhat more expensive than other quotes, the quality of the system seemed worthwhile as well as the attentiveness. As noted, the follow up and regular "check ups" are included.
Description of Work: This was a follow up visit from our purchase of a new system in Fall 2010. We've been quite pleased with the heat pump and had lower bills this winter while feeling warmer in the townhouse. This is a responsive and reliable group of professionals and I highly recommend their service.

He was a very congenial type person and he was very informative. It was a good experience to have him here to fix it. We didn't know we had so much trouble and he probably saved us a lot of grief. The price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: We used Don Hoffacker's Air Conditioning & Heating to tune up our furnace. We had a corroded battery and he found a clogged pressure tube. He checked the motor and everything. He replaced a couple of parts.

Harry arrived as scheduled and was able to quickly determine that the problem with uneven airflow was due to a damper blocking one of the vents. He removed the damper and provided useful tips on how to get the HVAC system to run efficiently. The entire experience was smooth and painless. Would certainly recommend Don Hoffackers highly.
Description of Work: Diagnosed the cause of uneven airflow in the house. Removed damper from the vent to adjust airflow. One side of the house was not getting enough heat due to the damper blocking the vent.

It was a bit expensive, but less than elsewhere for top of the line equipment: I would recommend Don Offacker?s shop anytime to anyone!
Description of Work: I had 2 new HVACs, top of the line Bryant installed to replace older machines at my place. I had been impressed by the professionalism of the tech who had come for the quote. I was even more impressed by the job performed by the installation team. They arrived as scheduled at 8 am. Not 2 trucks with 4 techs (as I had been expecting), but…6 trucks with 6 tech! They started to work promptly (and it was not a very easy job, since my furnace where in hard to reach locations), very efficiently and quietly. In 8 hours, the job was done. They walked me through the functions of the thermostat and verified with me that everything was working fine. They cleaned up very thoroughly after themselves. And said that they’d come back during the spring to test the HVAC & ensure it was properly set-up.
