Richard was honest, professional, knowledgeable, efficient and effective. The office staff was equally pleasant and responsive in setting up and confirming my appointments. From start to finish, this was a great experience. And best of all, after 2 years, I HAVE HEAT!!!
Before choosing a vendor, I did a considerable amount of research on this site, the internet and by talking to neighbors. I originally chose one of the vendors listed on Angieslist that got excellent grades and was less expensive than Rod Miller. Their process sounded good and the customer service representative was extremely pleasant and responsive. When the 2 guy crew arrived though, they were the ones full of questions. Bottom line, it was clear they didn?t work on a lot of old houses with high roofs and questionable designs for where the vents had been placed throughout the house. They had a good 2-hose system but it would hve involved cutting a vent. I did not want to deal with the possible repercussions of that so I called Rod Miller who had been highly recommended by my contractor. They are used to dealing with old and new houses and spent hours in my house carefully opening up supply and return vents so that the paint wasn't ruined. They were also exceptionally careful with the dust. I had taped garbage bags all over my closet doors in fear that the close by vents would leak dust in through the vented door losets. hey didn?t. There was some
dust but not nearly enough to justify my time-consuming taping precautions. The two man crew cleaned up thoroughly as they went along. They explained what they ere doing each step of the way and showed me the dust build-up. I am so glad this thorough cleaning was finally done. I paid a little more than I had budgeted but I?m confident it was done right and carefully leaving no mess
behind and ceilings with very minimal paint damage where the vents were removed. I highly recommend Rod Mller. If you?re going to clean your vents, you might as well get it done right.
The only issue I had is that when I would call I to check on the status of the part I would be promised my phone call would be returned.
Other contractors responding to an Angie's List inquiry claimed that they would beat anyone else's pricing (without seeing the old unit or the physical space), and that may have been the case; but I felt that the quick response and professionalism I have consistently received from Rod Miller were more important than a further delay in getting additional quotes that might (or might not) have saved money.
I have been a Rod Miller customer for many years, and I have received consistently great service from knowledgeable and responsible professionals there. Their pricing seems fair to me, although I recognize that during a recession, consumers who want to shop price may be able to save some money. My feeling is that consistent reliability and prompt service are more important factors in the long run, and I am happy to recommend Rod Miller to others based on my experience.
I have a roof AC unit with the compressor in the attic (older DC homes). Other companies which also seemed good, did not think they could remove and install the new compressor without creating a new hole in my bedroom ceiling.
Don crawled up there and was sure they would be able to use the current access in the closet.
Plus their costs were reasonable, somewhere in the middle.
It was a touch job for them, I could tell, but they got it done without messing up my bedroom ceiling!
The AC works great!
This is my first experience with Angies List. I joined at 6AM; the membership paid for itself by 10AM. I would NOT have found Rod Taylor Inc without Angies List. Thank you!
I found this experience to be highly unprofessional, not only in the failure to advise that the estimator was running behind schedule, but also in the cancellation of the appointment. I do not recommend this company.
We were given a four hour window in which the serviceman would arrive. When we called at 2:00 to ask for an ETA, the woman at the service center stated that she could only say someone would be out "sometime in the afternoon". We received a call around 5:00 that the serviceman was on his way. He arrived a little after 6:00. He rushed through our door like someone who wanted to finish the job and head for home.
It wasn't clear at first what the problem wit hour AC was. The serviceman had trouble explaining it, and got frustrated with questions. He offered two solutions (adding freon and flushing the system). We had to push for him to perform both, which was good because it was in trying to flush the pipes in the attic that the problem (a loose PVC pipe) was found.
The charge for the addition of freon was $75. When we questioned the cost of this the serviceman seemed really agitated. He kept saying "it's my company man, not me".
Overall we felt our long wait was unacceptable. Also while we felt badly for the serviceman who may have been working all day and had come to us as his last stop, we still felt we deserved a more clear and calm description of the services and fees. Hopefully our experience is not representative of a typical visit from Rod Miller Heat and AC.
The next morning, May 31st, I called to find out what happened and was told that they had come by and no one was home. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. I was in the house, working on a project on the computer which is in my office which is directly above the front door. I told the person at Rod Miller as quietly as I could that their technicians were lying, that I had not left the house all day. She said and I quote, "Ma'am, you just going to have to calm down." At which point I told her in very rude terms what she could do.
If you want to waste a day on a non-responsive company with no regard for customers, or their time, be my guest.
I called Rod Miller Monday afternoon, and they were able to get me scheduled for the next morning between 8am-12pm. Mike, our technician pulled up at 8am on the dot! Talk about punctuality!! Our system is brand new, so he was able to diagnose the problems quickly and pointed out the missteps that the other company had made. It took him 1 hour and 45 minutes to evaluate the system, fix the problems, explain to us in detail what the issues were and provide maintenance recommendations. The labor cost was $305, but I had an Angie's list coupon for $25 off...so I paid $280. It was well spent, and I would definitely use this company in the future.
